Founder Diaries · Bedroom & Living Room
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles6 min readUpdated August 2026
A bedroom and a living room are two different rooms doing two different jobs. Colour and furniture say so slowly; scent says so the instant you cross the threshold. Giving each its own fragrance is the fastest, cheapest way to make a home feel considered.
Quick answer
Living room: a fresh, social scent — Westin-inspired or 1 Hotels-inspired — in a Sukoon.
Bedroom: a warm, calming scent — Ritz-Carlton-inspired or Shangri-La-inspired — in its own Sukoon.
The rule: different scents, one shared family, each device kept low.
The short version
Short answer: One diffuser and one fragrance per room, cast to what the room is for — fresh for the living room, warm for the bedroom.
A scent identity is simpler than it sounds. It is just the fragrance a room reliably has, so that over weeks your nose learns it and the room starts to mean something. The living room becomes the place that smells bright and awake; the bedroom becomes the place that smells like rest. You are not decorating with scent so much as giving each room a consistent signature. And the way you do it is to cast each fragrance to the room's real job — not to your favourite bottle, but to what you want the room to feel like when you walk in.
01
The living room
Fresh, open, sociable — the room that welcomes
SOSA Sukoon ₹1,799
The living room is where you sit with tea, where guests arrive, where the day happens. It wants a scent that reads clean and awake rather than heavy — something that lifts the room without demanding attention. From the Hotel Collection, the Westin-inspired white-tea style or the 1 Hotels-inspired green-citrus style suit it beautifully; a Four Seasons-inspired bright citrus works if you like more sparkle. Run a Sukoon here, kept low, and the room settles into a fresh, hospitable signature.
Founder tip: switch the living-room Sukoon on twenty to thirty minutes before people arrive, then let it idle — arrival is when a fresh scent does its work.
02
The bedroom
Warm, soft, enveloping — the room that lets you go
Hotel Collection from ₹299
The bedroom does the opposite work: it helps you slow down and let go of the day. It wants a warmer, quieter, more enveloping scent — one that feels like a soft light rather than an open window. The Ritz-Carlton-inspired plush floral-woody, the St. Regis-inspired classic elegance, or the Shangri-La-inspired soft oriental all read as restful. Keep this Sukoon gentler still than the living room's, and let the seven-colour light double as a low night light.
Honest caveat: in the bedroom especially, keep it faint. A warm scent at high output can feel cloying in a small, closed room — you want a hint, not a cloud.

These are SOSA's own interpretations by feel — described by mood, never claiming to replicate any hotel's actual scent.
"A scent identity is just a fragrance a room has every time — long enough that your nose starts to call it home."
Sonal Sahani · Founder, SOSA
One caution, because it is the mistake I see most. Two identities do not mean two unrelated worlds shouting at each other across a corridor. If the living room is a sharp citrus and the bedroom a heavy amber, the doorway between them turns muddy. Keep both scents in a related register — a fresh version in one room, a warm version of a similar softness in the other — and keep each device low. The goal is contrast you feel as you move, not a collision you smell where the rooms meet. Done that way, the home reads as one considered place with two moods, which is exactly the quiet luxury you are after.
Frequently asked
How do you create a different scent identity for a bedroom and living room?
Give each room its own diffuser and its own fragrance, chosen for what the room is for. The living room, a social and daytime space, suits a fresh, bright scent such as Westin-inspired or 1 Hotels-inspired. The bedroom, a place to wind down, suits a warm, soft scent such as Ritz-Carlton-inspired or Shangri-La-inspired. Two
Sukoon diffusers at ₹1,799 each, each running one Hotel Collection fragrance, is the simplest way to build the two identities.
What scent should the living room have versus the bedroom?
The living room reads best with a fresh, open, sociable scent — clean white-tea or green-citrus styles like Westin-inspired, 1 Hotels-inspired or Four Seasons-inspired — because it welcomes people and stays bright through the day. The bedroom reads best with a warmer, quieter, more enveloping scent — plush or soft-oriental styles like Ritz-Carlton-inspired, St. Regis-inspired or Shangri-La-inspired — because its job is to help you slow down and sleep.
Do the two rooms need different diffusers or just different fragrances?
Different fragrances are what create the two identities, but you need a diffuser in each room to run them at the same time. The Sukoon runs the water-based
Hotel Collection, so two Sukoons let each room hold its own scent permanently. Swapping one fragrance in a single travelling diffuser does not give you two identities at once — only one room is ever scented.
Will two different scents clash where the rooms meet?
Not if you choose both from a related family and keep each low. The trick is contrast in warmth, not a collision of unrelated notes: a fresh version in the living room and a warm version of a similar softness in the bedroom read as one home with two moods. Running each Sukoon at a gentle level, in sessions rather than full blast, keeps the doorway calm.
Can I build two scent identities on a budget?
Yes. Keep a Sukoon at ₹1,799 in the living room and add a smaller
Boond at ₹799 in the bedroom, then run a different Hotel Collection fragrance from ₹299 in each. You still get two distinct identities; you have simply used a smaller, cheaper device for the smaller room.
Give each room its character
Fresh where you gather. Warm where you rest.
A Sukoon in each room, a fresh Hotel Collection fragrance for the living room and a warm one for the bedroom — two identities from one shared family.
