Owners describe their doors to me as a leak, as though fragrance were escaping that ought to have been kept in. It is more useful to think of it the other way round. The doorway is not losing your air - it is a place where your building and the street take turns, and no setting on any machine changes whose turn it is.
Quick answers — read this first
How much do constantly opening glass doors actually affect the fragrance? A great deal within about three or four metres of the door and remarkably little beyond it. Each opening exchanges the pocket of air beside the doors for street air, and on a busy frontage that happens dozens of times an hour. What it does not do is empty the display floor - the air deeper in the building is not being swapped at anything like that rate, which is exactly why the machine belongs there and not at the entrance.

Should I turn the machine up to compensate? No, and this is the mistake the doorway sets you up for. Compensating at the dial means setting the entire showroom for the worst moment at the threshold, so everybody past the first four metres is standing in a level chosen for air that has already gone. Your customers sit at a consultation table for sixty to ninety minutes; a level chosen at the door is uncomfortable by the ninetieth minute. Set it from the seat and let the entrance be what it is.

So what do I do about the entrance itself? Accept it, largely, and let the gradient arrive there on its own. One machine placed inward produces a fragrance that is strongest on the display floor and fades towards the door, which is the natural shape and the one customers read as a well-kept building rather than as a scented one. If you have a vestibule or a lobby with two sets of doors, that is a genuine architectural buffer - though a building decision rather than a fragrance one.
The short answer
Short answer: they exchange the air within about three or four metres of the doorway every time somebody walks through, so the threshold will not hold a fragrance and should not be asked to. Place the machine inward on the display floor, accept a gradient that fades towards the door, and never raise the intensity to compensate - that sets the whole showroom for air that has already left.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) placed several metres inside the display floor rather than near the entrance; under about 750 sq ft, one SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) instead, placed by the same rule.
Next step: send the floor plan with the entrance, any vestibule and the machine's intended position marked, and we will tell you how far inward it should sit - Ask for a retail scenting plan.

Straight answer
How do constantly opening glass doors affect fragrance in a kitchen showroom?
They exchange the air near the doorway, they do not drain the building, and the practical consequence is that the first three or four metres of your showroom will never hold a fragrance reliably - so stop asking them to. Here is what actually happens. A glass door on a busy frontage opens dozens of times an hour, and each opening swaps the pocket of air standing beside it for whatever is outside: warm air off the road, dust, the vehicle traffic of an arterial street, monsoon damp. Deeper into the building the same exchange is happening far more slowly, because air has to travel to reach the door and the displays, partitions and furniture between here and there slow it down. So you have two different climates in one showroom, and they need two different attitudes. The doorway gets accepted; the display floor gets the machine. The mistake this sets people up for is compensating at the dial. It is a very natural mistake: you stand at the entrance on a Saturday afternoon, smell nothing at all, and reach for the intensity. But the doorway is not under-scented because the machine is weak - it is under-scented because that air is being replaced. Raising the level therefore does nothing at the threshold and a great deal everywhere else. You have now set the entire showroom for air that has already left the building, and the people who pay for that are the customers sitting at a consultation table for sixty to ninety minutes and the designers who breathe it nine hours a day. If a customer can name the fragrance, you are over-scented, and this is one of the two commonest routes to it. So place one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 several metres inside the display floor, roughly a metre off the ground, downstream of a supply grille and away from any return - and let the gradient fall towards the door by itself. That falling gradient is the correct shape and you get it free from a single source: strongest where people slow down and look, fading towards the entrance where they are still walking. Customers read that as a building that is looked after rather than as a building that has been scented, which is the whole target. Two things worth knowing. A vestibule or lobby with two sets of doors is a genuine buffer and it works, but it is an architectural feature rather than something a fragrance supplier can install. And whether your building runs at a slight positive pressure so air pushes out at the door, how the entrance is conditioned, and whether an air curtain is appropriate are questions for your HVAC contractor, not for me. Under about 750 sq ft the honest machine is a SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 and a Vaayu would be the wrong buy. And none of this is a way to cover a smell from the street or from the fit-out; that is ventilation, extraction and cleaning. Ask for a retail scenting plan and send the plan with the entrance marked.
The doors exchange the air beside them, so the first three or four metres will not hold a fragrance. Place the machine several metres inward, accept the threshold, and never raise the level to compensate for a door. One Vaayu ₹11,999 up to 1000m³, or a ₹1,899 Sukoon under about 750 sq ft.
One SOSA Vaayu - waterless, rated to 1000m³, with adjustable intensity and a key-lock that matters most in exactly this situation, where somebody will otherwise turn it up on a windy afternoon and forget. ₹11,999, freestanding and placed inward. Under about 750 sq ft, buy the ₹1,899 Sukoon instead.

The three things a busy door decides

Three consequences follow from a door being an opening rather than a wall, and the third is the one that costs money if you get it wrong.

1
Give up the threshold
The first three or four metres belong to the street, and that is fine
This is the concession that makes everything else work. Air beside a busy glass door is replaced dozens of times an hour, so no machine at any setting will hold a consistent fragrance there. Once you stop trying, the building becomes much easier to plan: the entrance is a transition, the display floor is the room, and the consultation table is where the level is decided. A customer spends about four seconds at your threshold and ninety minutes at a table, so this is a good trade even before you count the money. It also spares you the sight of an expensive machine spending its output on the pavement.
Tip: Stand outside your own door for a minute. If you can smell the showroom from there, it is set too high.

2
Place inward and let it fall
One source produces the gradient you actually want, for nothing
Put the machine several metres inside the display floor, roughly a metre off the ground, downstream of a grille that blows and well away from any return. What you get is a fragrance that is at its most present where customers slow down and look at cabinetry, and that fades as they move back towards the entrance. That falling shape is the natural one and it is also the convincing one - real buildings are never uniformly scented, and a room that is identical in every corner reads as manufactured. You do not need to engineer this. One correctly placed source produces it whether you plan it or not.
Tip: Judge the result three or four metres in, not at the door.

One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.

3
Refuse to fix a door at the dial
Compensating for the threshold over-scents everybody who is past it
The intensity control adjusts the whole room, not the four metres you are standing in. So raising it because the entrance smells of nothing sets the display floor and the consultation table for air that is no longer in the building. This is one of the two commonest ways a showroom ends up over-scented, and it is a slow one - a notch on a Saturday, another in a windy week, and nobody remembers where it started. Use the key-lock, write the setting on a card, and change it only after the design team has been asked. They breathe it all week and hold the only reliable measurement in the building.
Tip: Anyone on the floor should still be able to switch it off in seconds.

The SOSA principle
The entrance is simultaneously the air you control least and the moment owners most want to choreograph, and reconciling those two facts is mostly a matter of giving up on the first four metres with good grace.
Everything you decline to spend at the door is spent instead where somebody is sitting down.
SOSA Vaayu
Key-locked for a reason: SOSA Vaayu's lock is what stops a busy doorway being answered with a quiet notch on the dial. ₹11,999.

The plan, from the pavement inward

Walk it in this order, the way a customer does, and decide each zone before you touch the machine.

The SOSA plan
How a busy glass frontage changes the plan
The zone What to do
The pavement and the doors
Not yours. If the fragrance is noticeable outside, the showroom is set too high and you are scenting the street.
The first three or four metres
Accept it. Exchanged air, dozens of times an hour, and no setting holds anything here. Treat it as a transition rather than a zone.
SOSA VaayuThe display floor
The room. One machine several metres in, roughly a metre off the floor, downstream of a supply grille and away from any return.
The consultation table
Where the level is judged, at the ninetieth minute and by the people who sit there all week. It gets no source of its own.
A vestibule or double-door lobby
A genuine buffer if you have one, and an architectural feature rather than something a fragrance supplier installs.
A door propped open for deliveries
Switch the machine off rather than turn it up. It is a temporary condition and it deserves a temporary answer.

If the symptom you are actually living with is a strong reception and a display floor that smells of nothing, the diagnosis is in why the fragrance reads at reception but not across the showroom. And the whole family's method for making a floor read consistently despite a working frontage is in how to create even fragrance distribution across multiple display zones. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel.

See the SOSA Vaayu Book a scenting plan
Every rupee of fragrance you push at a busy doorway is a rupee spent on the pavement outside. The customer is not standing there. They are four metres in, running a hand along a worktop.

Give up the threshold, place the machine inward, and never answer a doorway with the intensity control. Ambient scent here is a presentation decision like lighting or display styling; it is never used to cover another smell - not street air, not laminate, not cooking - and entrance conditioning, building pressure, air curtains, ductwork and filtration are your HVAC contractor's questions, not a fragrance supplier's. And plainly: no one can promise you that ambient scent moves footfall or order value. Ask for a retail scenting plan before you spend anything.

A note from Sonal

People send me photographs of their frontage the way you would send a photograph of a leak. Beautiful glass, an arterial road behind it, and the caption is always some version of: everything escapes. I understand the instinct, but a door is not a leak in a sealed tank. It is a place where your building and the street politely take turns, and no machine ever built changes whose turn it is.

So I ask people to give up the first three or four metres, which sounds like a defeat and is really a saving. Once the threshold is somebody else's problem, the whole plan simplifies: one machine several metres into the display floor, a metre off the ground, and a fragrance that is at its strongest where somebody has stopped to run a hand along a worktop and fades away towards the door. That falling shape is the one that reads as a well-kept building rather than a scented one, and you get it free from a single correctly placed source. The version people try to engineer - strong arrival, softer inside - costs more and convinces less.

What I would ask you not to do is fix a door with a dial. That control moves the whole showroom, so compensating for exchanged air at the entrance sets your consultation table for a level nobody sitting there would have chosen. On hardware, one Vaayu at ₹11,999, a Sukoon at ₹1,899 under about 750 sq ft, and an Aangan at ₹25,999 at real scale. Air curtains and entrance conditioning are your HVAC contractor's trade. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How do glass doors opening constantly affect fragrance in a kitchen showroom?
They exchange the air within about three or four metres of the doorway every time somebody walks through, which on a busy frontage happens dozens of times an hour. Deeper into the building the exchange is far slower, so the display floor holds a fragrance perfectly well. The practical answer is to place the machine several metres inward and treat the threshold as a transition rather than a zone.
Should I increase the intensity to make up for the doors?
No. The intensity control adjusts the whole showroom rather than the four metres by the entrance, so raising it does nothing at the threshold and a great deal at the consultation table. You would be setting the entire building for air that has already left it. Your customers sit for sixty to ninety minutes, so judge the level from that seat and leave the doorway alone.
Can I create a strong arrival scent at the entrance?
Not reliably, and it is not worth the money. A busy glass door replaces that air constantly, so most of what you release there ends up outside. A single machine placed inward produces a gradient that is strongest across the display floor and fades towards the door, which is the natural shape and the one customers read as a building that is well kept rather than one that has been scented.
Does a vestibule or double-door lobby help?
Yes, genuinely. Two sets of doors with a space between them means far less of your air is exchanged with each opening, and a showroom with a proper lobby holds a fragrance closer to its entrance than one that opens straight onto the pavement. It is worth knowing which you have, but it is an architectural feature rather than something a fragrance supplier can add for you.
What about air curtains and entrance conditioning?
Those are your HVAC contractor's decisions and I will not pretend otherwise. Whether an air curtain suits your frontage, how the entrance is conditioned, whether the building runs at a slight positive pressure that pushes air outward, and how any of it interacts with the rest of the system are engineering questions for whoever designed or commissioned it. Get their view in writing before anything is installed.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification, which are electrical and compliance marks and not medical approvals. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and is supplied with three 15ml fragrances; the water-based Hotel Collection (₹299 / ₹999 / ₹1,799) is an ultrasonic fragrance and is not a refill for a waterless cold-air machine. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with 50ml lasting about 6-8 weeks and 130ml about 14-18 weeks. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml included and further refills should be confirmed with SOSA.
