Founder Diaries · Car Perfumes, Parking & How a Car Is Actually Used
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles11 min readUpdated September 2026
This is one of the cleanest examples in the whole category of a question that arrives attached to the wrong variable. You changed cars and the fragrance behaves differently in the new one, so the thing you name is the thing that is most visible on the sale document - what the car runs on. But look at what actually moved. The seats are made of something else. The car is years younger and has a smell of its own that the old one lost long ago. It is almost certainly parked somewhere different. And you drive it differently, because everybody drives a new car differently for the first month. Four changes, and the one in the question is the only one for which nothing is published at all.
The useful frame for a car in which everything changed at once: freeze the fragrance and let the car settle. A 10ml spray is ₹449 to ₹549 and published at 100 sprays, three months and above at one a day, which makes it the easiest of your four variables to hold genuinely constant. The 12ml hanging is the same price and runs 4 to 6 weeks with the stopper as its published control. SOSA publishes nothing about interior materials and no powertrain claim at all.
Quick answers — read this first
Does the seat material change how a car fragrance behaves?SOSA publishes nothing about interior materials - not about fabric, not about leatherette, not about either holding or not holding a scent - so nobody at SOSA can honestly tell you it does or that it does not. What can be said is that it is a more plausible candidate than the powertrain, for which there is no product, no claim and no difference of any kind.
So what should I actually change? One thing, and then wait. The 10ml spray at ₹449 to ₹549 is the format that makes this possible, because it is 100 sprays and you control every one of them. Hold the scent and the rate constant for a month and the car stops being four variables and becomes one.
Is a new car meant to smell different anyway? A car that is a few years old and a car that is a few months old are different objects, and that is not a fragrance question at all. It is the most likely reason the same perfume sits differently, and it resolves on its own. Nothing needs buying while it does.
The short answer
Short answer: Four things changed at once: the seats, the age of the car, where it is parked and how you drive it. SOSA publishes nothing about interior materials, so no one can honestly tell you fabric holds a scent and leatherette does not. The powertrain is the least likely candidate of the four, because no powertrain claim exists anywhere in the range. Hold one 10ml spray at Rs 449 to Rs 549, 100 sprays, at a steady rate for a month and test one variable at a time.
The pick: A 10ml SOSA car perfume spray, ₹449 to ₹549 - 100 sprays, held at one press a day, because it is the only format whose output you can keep genuinely constant while you test something else.
Why: Four variables moved together, so the only useful move is to freeze three of them, and a spray is the format that lets you freeze the fragrance precisely.
A car spends most of its life empty. The hours that matter are the ones somebody is sitting in it, and on a typical commute that is one or two out of twenty-four. The useful decision is therefore not which product lasts longest while nobody is there - it is whether you want fragrance you switch on or fragrance that simply runs. A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays, which is three months at one a day and fifty days at two; a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks and its stopper loosens for more or tightens for less. Nothing here depends on what is under the bonnet.
I moved from an old fabric-seat petrol hatchback to a new leatherette-interior EV - could the change in cabin materials and vehicle age matter more to fragrance perception than the change in powertrain?
Almost certainly, and the propulsion is the weakest of the four candidates rather than the strongest. Let me be careful about what SOSA can and cannot support here, because the honest answer has a gap in the middle of it. SOSA publishes nothing whatsoever about interior materials. There is no claim that fabric holds a scent, no claim that leatherette does not, and no test, figure or statement about either. So I am not going to tell you the seats are the answer, because that would be an invention dressed up as expertise. What I can tell you is the shape of the problem. You changed four things simultaneously. The material your seats are made of. The age of the vehicle, which is the big one - a car that is a few months old is a different object from one that has been lived in for years, and it carries its own character that has nothing to do with anything you bought. Where it is parked, which changes how long the cabin is shut and what state it is in when you open the door. And how you drive it, because a new car gets driven attentively, with different window habits and different routes, for at least the first month. Against those four, the powertrain is the only one with nothing behind it at all: SOSA publishes no petrol product, no diesel product and no electric product and makes no powertrain claim anywhere, because a perfume sits in a closed volume of air with a person in it and that volume is indifferent to what turns the wheels. So the method matters more than naming a culprit. Freeze the fragrance and let the car settle.A SOSA 10ml spray is ₹449 for Jasmine, ₹479 for Lavender and Sandalwood, ₹489 for Icy Mint, ₹499 for Lemon, ₹509 for Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze and ₹549 for Mysore Orange Blossom, and each is published at 100 sprays - 3 months and above at one a day, 50 days at two a day. Keep the same scent you had in the old car, keep one press as you get in, change nothing else for four weeks, and the new car will have stopped being new while your fragrance sat still. Whatever difference survives that month is worth acting on. And a limit that applies throughout: fragrance adds a scent to a cabin and does not remove, neutralise or mask one, so if the new car has a smell of its own that you do not like, spraying over it gives you two smells rather than one. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Four things changed. Freeze three, test one, and start with the one that is not on the sale document.
The quick version: the seats, the age of the car, the parking and your own habits all changed on the same day, and the propulsion is the only one of the four with no published claim behind it. Hold one 10ml spray at ₹449 to ₹549, 100 sprays, at one press a day for a month, and you will have three fewer variables to argue about.
Three honest things to say about a car in which four things changed at once
The value of this question is that it is already most of the way to being right - the reader has noticed that more than one thing moved. Three observations finish the job, and the third one is the only one that is a product recommendation at all.
01
Four variables, one purchase
You changed the seats, the age, the parking and the habits on the same day
Write them out and the question answers itself as a method even if it cannot answer itself as a fact. The seats are a different material. The car is years younger. It is parked somewhere else, or at least differently. And your driving of it is not yet settled. Any one of those would be enough to make a familiar perfume sit differently in a cabin, and you changed all four in an afternoon. This is why the instinct to buy a new fragrance for the new car is such a costly one: it adds a fifth variable to a problem that already has four, and guarantees that you will never know which of them was responsible. The cheapest thing you can do in the first month is nothing.
Tip: Adding a fifth change to four unexplained ones is how a question becomes permanently unanswerable.
02
The gap, stated rather than filled
SOSA publishes nothing about fabric, leatherette or any other interior material
This is the part where a less careful page would sound most authoritative. There is no SOSA claim about interior materials in either direction. Nothing says fabric holds a fragrance for longer, nothing says a smoother surface releases it faster, and no test behind either statement exists to be cited. The complete published disclosure on how the range behaves is short: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays; the 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more at ₹1,499; a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks in refillable glass with a stopper that loosens for stronger and tightens for subtler; the spray is a fine-mist atomizer and one spray covers the cabin; and the range is alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant. Interiors are not in that list, so they are not going to be asserted here. Saying so is more useful than a confident guess, because a confident guess would have you shopping for the wrong thing.
03
The candidate with nothing behind it
The propulsion is in the question because it is on the invoice, not because it is relevant
It is worth saying why the least likely candidate is the one that gets named. The powertrain is the headline fact about the purchase, so it becomes the label for everything that feels new about the car. But there is no SOSA petrol product, no diesel product and no electric product, and no claim anywhere that a fragrance behaves one way in one and another way in the next. A perfume occupies a closed volume of air with a person in it. That volume does not know what is moving it, and no page here is going to pretend otherwise. Meanwhile the three candidates that are genuinely plausible - the age of the car, the parking and your own unsettled habits - are exactly the ones nobody puts on a product page, because none of them sells anything.
Tip: The variable on the invoice is rarely the variable in the cabin.
The one number that settles most of this
A 10ml spray is 100 sprays. The rest is division.
SOSA publishes the count on the bottle: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, and the 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. The pages state the working too - three months and above at one spray a day, and fifty days at two a day. That turns a vague question into an arithmetic one. Spray before every journey and somebody making four short trips a day is out of a 10ml in about twenty-five days; the same bottle in the hands of somebody who sprays once each morning lasts the published three months. Neither is wrong - but only one of them is what the person expected when they bought it. Work out your own number before you decide the product is not lasting, because a hundred sprays is a hundred sprays regardless of how the car is powered.
How to find out which of the four actually changed
List what changed. Seats, age of car, parking, habits. Four entries, not one.
Keep the same scent and the same press count for four full weeks.
Let the car stop being new before you judge anything you put in it.
In week five change one thing only, and write down which one it was.
The SOSA principle
When four things change at once, the useful question is never which one is to blame. It is which three you can hold still - and a spray you press yourself is the easiest of the four to freeze.
Which makes the first month in a new car a measurement exercise rather than a shopping one.
Which format lets you test a variable, and which one cannot
If you do decide to change scent, do it deliberately and after the month, not during it. The spray and the hanging cost the same for any given scent, so the choice is about how you want to use the car. Jasmine at ₹449 is the range's entry point and Lavender at ₹479 is published as the softest of the nine. Icy Mint at ₹489, Lemon at ₹499 and Sea Breeze at ₹509 are the sharp, bright end. Sandalwood at ₹479, Vetiver at ₹509 and Oud at ₹509 are the deep woods, Oud the deepest published of them. Mysore Orange Blossom at ₹549 is spray only, with no hanging version and no refill at all.
The SOSA gift edit
Four responses to a car in which everything changed at once
The option
Who it suits, and where it fails
Keep the old scent and the old rate for a month
The recommendation, and it costs nothing. A 10ml at ₹449 to ₹549 is 100 sprays, so one press a day is easy to hold steady. It fails only in patience - you want the car sorted now, and this asks you to wait four weeks.
Change the scent, hold the rate
A reasonable second month if the first one settled and you still want something else. It fails as a first move, because the car has not finished being new and you would be reading its character as your new scent's.
Switch to the 12ml hanging, same price
4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion with the stopper as the strength control, for somebody who would rather not manage this at all. It fails as a test instrument, because its output is not something you set per journey.
Buy nothing for the first month
Genuinely on the table. A new car has a character of its own that fades, and the most informative month is often the one where you add nothing to it. It fails if the car is shared and somebody else has already made the decision for you.
The format choice, and why price does not decide it
Spray or hanging - the same price, scent for scent
This is the unusual part of the SOSA car range and it makes the decision cleaner than it usually is: the spray and the hanging cost the same for any given scent - ₹449 for Jasmine, ₹479 for Lavender and Sandalwood, ₹489 for Icy Mint, ₹499 for Lemon, ₹509 for Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze. So you are not trading money against convenience; you are choosing between fragrance you decide to have and fragrance that is simply there. The spray is 100 sprays in 10ml and you control every one of them. The hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks in refillable glass and asks nothing of you, and its stopper is the strength control - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler. One further practical difference that decides it for some people: 15ml refills exist for the hanging and there is no spray refill at all.
Two practical differences that decide the format for some people regardless of the argument. 15ml refills exist for the hanging, at ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents, in a refillable glass bottle, and there is no spray refill of any kind - a spray is replaced rather than topped up, and Orange Blossom has no refill in either format. Everything in the range is alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant and formulated and tested for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent humidity, which is a formulation and stability statement about surviving an Indian car park rather than a performance claim about any season. On presentation, custom label or logo on product is the only branding option SOSA offers - no custom box and no printed sleeve.
₹449 to ₹549, published at 100 sprays. Fragrance you decide to have, journey by journey - which is the format that suits a car occupied an hour or two a day.
The same price as the spray, published at 4 to 6 weeks in a refillable glass bottle. The stopper adjusts it - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler - which is the only strength control SOSA publishes.
Three sprays from ₹699, or all nine at ₹2,999. Nine published combinations and those nine are the whole range - you pick from them, you do not assemble one.
from ₹699
The premise worth rejecting before anything else
A fragrance does not know what is turning the wheels.
There is no petrol product, no diesel product and no electric product in the SOSA range, and SOSA publishes nothing whatsoever about powertrain - because a perfume in a closed cabin behaves the same way whether that cabin is being pushed along by a battery or an engine. What genuinely differs between two owners is everything else: where the car is parked and for how long, how many separate journeys it makes in a day, how many of those hours anybody is actually inside it, whether the windows are open, and who else is in the car. Those are real variables and they change the answer completely. The published figures speak to them directly: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, which is three months and more at one a day and fifty days at two; a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks continuously with a stopper that loosens for more and tightens for less; the 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. So when two people with identical cars need different answers, it is never because one of them is electric.
Tell SOSA how many hours a day somebody is actually sitting in the car, where it is parked and for how long, whether the windows are usually open or shut, and who else drives it - and you will be told which format and how much, including the times the honest answer is the hanging at the same price because you would rather not think about it.
The powertrain is in this question because it is the biggest number on the invoice, not because it is the biggest change in the cabin. The seats, the age and the parking all have better claims.

The SOSA gifting range
Two questions settle almost every car fragrance decision, and neither of them is what the car runs on. How many hours a day is somebody actually sitting in it? A 25 km commute is about an hour; a field job can be four. That number decides how much of what you buy is experienced by anybody at all, because the rest of the day is a sealed cabin in a parking bay. Then: do you want fragrance you switch on, or fragrance that simply runs? The 10ml spray holds 100 sprays and does nothing until you press it; the 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks whether anybody is there or not, and its stopper loosens for stronger or tightens for subtler. They cost the same for the same scent, so price does not decide it - which is unusual, and useful.
The SOSA range, sorted by how much it asks of the person receiving it
Start from what the gift demands, not from what it costs
₹449 to ₹549 across nine scents. Published at 100 sprays - 3 months and above at one a day, 50 days at two a day. A fine-mist atomizer; one spray covers the cabin
The same price as the spray, scent for scent. Published at 4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion in a refillable glass bottle, and the stopper adjusts it - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler
₹1,499, published at 500 sprays and about a year and more. The honest size when you already know the routine, and the wrong one while you are still working it out
₹899 for Jasmine & Lemon or Jasmine & Lavender; ₹949 for Oud + Lemon or Sandalwood & Oud. Spray combo (2 x 10ml) or hanging combo (2 x 12ml) at the same price. Four published pairs
₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents. There is no spray refill, and Orange Blossom has no refill at all - so if refilling matters, that decides the format for you
₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired sets. A different category from a spray or a hanging, and listed here so you can rule it in or out rather than wonder
from ₹3,999
The fact that answers most of these questions is a division sum. A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays. Somebody who sprays before each of four short daily trips empties it in about twenty-five days; somebody who sprays once a day gets the published three months and more. The 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. The 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks instead, continuously, and its stopper adjusts the strength - loosen for more, tighten for less. Spray and hanging are the same price scent for scent, so the choice is genuinely about how you want to use the car rather than what you want to spend. Everything is alcohol-free, phthalate-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent humidity, made in India. Fragrance adds a scent to a cabin; it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour and it does not clean the air - so a car that has developed a smell is a question about the car, not about the perfume. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available, with quantities settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, sending orders across India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The honest spec sheet
What the SOSA car pages publish, and what they do not
Everything below is on the live product pages. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
The published quantities - a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, stated as 3 months and above at one a day and 50 days at two a day. The 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more, at ₹1,499. A spray combo is 200 sprays, stated as 100 days at two a day rotating. These are the only usage figures SOSA gives.
The hanging - 4 to 6 weeks (28 to 42 days) of continuous diffusion per 12ml bottle, in refillable glass, and the stopper adjusts the strength: loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler.
Combos and the Discovery Set - four published pairs at ₹899 and ₹949, as a spray combo (2 x 10ml) or a hanging combo (2 x 12ml) at the same price. The Discovery Set is ₹699 to ₹899 for three sprays and ₹2,999 for all nine. Those nine combinations are the entire set range and none is composed to order.
Refills - 15ml hanging refills at ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents. There is no spray refill and Orange Blossom has no refill.
The formulation - alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent relative humidity, made in India.
Not published, and therefore never stated here: any difference between a petrol, diesel or electric car; any cabin-volume, coverage, scent-throw or evaporation figure; any claim about how a scent is perceived over hours; any seasonal performance claim; any shelf life or concentration; any health effect in either direction; any bulk rate, minimum quantity, price break or lead time. Those go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
Not sure whether you want a spray or a hanging? Tell SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 four things: how many hours a day somebody is actually sitting in the car, where it is parked and for how long, whether the windows are usually open or shut, and who else drives it. A note from Sonal
We get asked which car perfume is right for an electric car, and I have never been able to give the answer the question wants. There isn't one. A fragrance sits in a closed box of air with a person in it, and that box does not behave differently because the thing moving it is a battery. If anyone tells you otherwise they are selling you a category, not a product.
What I can tell you is what actually changes between two owners, because it is not subtle. One car is occupied ninety minutes a day and another is occupied six. One sits in a basement and one bakes outdoors for nine hours. One has the windows down for the first ten minutes of every drive and one never opens them at all. One is driven by three people who want three different things from it. Those differences are enormous, and none of them is on the spec sheet of the car.
So the numbers I would want you to hold on to are the ones about use rather than about chemistry. A 10ml spray is a hundred sprays. That is three months if you spray once a day and about fifty days if you spray twice, and if you spray before every one of four short errands it is gone in under a month. The hanging runs four to six weeks and you can loosen or tighten the stopper to change it. Those two facts settle more of these questions than anything I could tell you about the car.
And the part I will not pretend about: a perfume cannot fix a smell. It adds a scent, it does not remove one. If a car has started smelling of something it did not smell of before, that is a question about the car - the air-conditioning, the mats, something in the boot, water that got in during the monsoon - and adding fragrance on top of it is the one thing I would ask you not to do.
Frequently asked questions
Does fabric upholstery hold a car fragrance better than leatherette?
SOSA publishes nothing about interior materials, in either direction, so there is no claim here that fabric holds a scent or that a smoother surface does not. It is a more plausible candidate than the powertrain, for which no product and no claim exist at all, but plausible is not published and this page will not treat it as though it were.
Does an EV need a different car perfume from a petrol car?
No. There is no SOSA petrol product, no diesel product and no electric product, and no claim anywhere that a fragrance behaves differently according to what moves the car. A perfume sits in a closed volume of air with a person in it. What genuinely differs between owners is parking, occupied hours, ventilation and who else drives the vehicle.
Why does my old scent feel wrong in the new car?
The most likely reason has nothing to do with the perfume. A car a few months old has a character of its own that an older one lost years ago, and your familiar scent is now sitting alongside it rather than alone. That resolves with time. Holding the scent steady for a month is how you find out whether anything else is going on.
How many sprays does a bottle hold?
A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays and a 50ml at 500, with the 50ml stated as lasting about a year and more. The pages give the working for the 10ml as 3 months and above at one spray a day, or 50 days at two a day. Those are the only usage figures SOSA publishes for the sprays.
Should I buy something stronger for a new interior?
Not as a first move. Stronger is a reaction to a car you have not finished getting to know, and it commits you before you have any evidence. The published adjustments are the press count on the spray and the stopper on the 12ml hanging, which loosens for stronger and tightens for subtler, and both are reversible at no cost.
Take the next step
Freeze three variables, test the fourth
The 10ml spray at ₹449 to ₹549 is 100 sprays and the only format whose output you can keep exactly constant while the car finishes being new. The 12ml hanging at the same price runs 4 to 6 weeks with a stopper that loosens for stronger or tightens for subtler, for somebody who would rather stop managing this. The 50ml at ₹1,499 is 500 sprays and about a year and more, for after the month rather than during it. Tell SOSA what changed when you switched cars, on WhatsApp.
Not sure which one suits the person you are buying for? Send SOSA their age, whether they drive, whether they like their home scented and your budget on WhatsApp, and you will get an honest answer - including when the cheaper product is the better gift.

What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any difference in fragrance behaviour between petrol, diesel and electric vehicles - SOSA makes no powertrain-specific product and no powertrain claim; any cabin-volume, coverage, scent-throw, projection or evaporation figure; any claim about how a scent is perceived over hours or about sensory adaptation; any seasonal performance claim beyond the stated formulation for heat and humidity; any shelf life, expiry or concentration; and any bulk rate, minimum quantity, price break or lead time. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a cabin. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour, it does not clean the air, and a car that has developed a new smell is a question about the vehicle rather than about perfume. No health claim is made anywhere on this page, in either direction - nothing here states or implies that any fragrance causes or prevents a headache, nausea, motion sickness or any other effect, and nothing is said about safety in pregnancy or for children or the elderly, because SOSA publishes no information this page can rely on. No third-party brand is named and no competitor or category of competing product is characterised. No rating, review count, strength percentage or customer name from any product page is cited. Bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available; that is the only branding option, and quantities are settled on WhatsApp. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
