Monday is not Saturday, and a fragrance you wear on both has to survive each. The two sandalwoods in this question behave differently over a week, and the answer to which wears better depends on a test most buyers never run: wearing one five days in a row.
Quick answers — read this first
Which wears better day to day, creamy sandalwood or sandalwood over musk? Sandalwood over musk. A musk base gives the wood a quiet floor, while a creamy sandalwood adds vanilla and tonka, which is more to live with daily. SOSA Ameeri is the first and SOSA Mastani is the second.

Which SOSA attar is the creamy sandalwood? SOSA Mastani, from ₹389 for 3ml: Mysore sandalwood in the base beside oudh, Madagascar vanilla and tonka, under night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose. Creamy here comes from the vanilla and tonka.

Is there a plain sandalwood attar from SOSA? No. None of the four attars is a sandalwood-only fragrance, and SOSA makes no sandalwood soliflore. Sandalwood sits in SOSA Ameeri, SOSA Mastani and SOSA Nawaab, always in company with other notes.
The short answer
Short answer: Sandalwood over musk is the better daily wear, and in this range it is Ameeri. Mastani is the creamier sandalwood, and a good second bottle rather than a first.
The pick: One 3ml of SOSA Ameeri at ₹385, one dab, worn five days in a row. Add SOSA Mastani at ₹389 for the weekend if you want creamier.
Next step: Tell us what your week looks like and which sandalwood you wore last, and we will say if Ameeri fits. Ask for an attar recommendation.
Judge a daily bottle on its fifth wearMonday to Friday: Ameeri, one dab, the same placeA slower weekend: Mastani, one dab, a creamier dayCreamy comes from vanilla and tonka, not from the woodNo sandalwood-only attar exists in the rangeAmeeri from Rs 385, Mastani from Rs 389, 3ml
A working week and a weekend, with the sandalwood this page would put on each. Creamy is on the third line because it is the word that decides the choice, and the last line carries both 3ml prices.
Ameeri for the week, Mastani for the weekend, Adaa for no wood

Creamy Sandalwood or Sandalwood Over Musk: Which Wears Better Day to Day?
Sandalwood over musk wears better day to day. A creamy sandalwood is a lovely attar that asks more of an ordinary Tuesday. Here is the reasoning in five steps, and the bottle each one points to.

1. Define the two properly. Creamy sandalwood is the wood with vanilla and tonka around it. Sandalwood over musk is the wood sitting above a white musk floor. They are not two grades of the same attar. They are two arrangements.

2. Judge a daily bottle on the fifth wear. The first wear flatters whatever is newest. By the fifth you notice whether the base is something you still want. A quiet base survives that, and a rich one is better in rotation.

3. Take Ameeri for the week. SOSA Ameeri at ₹385 puts Indian sandalwood in the heart, under Taif rose, over soft oudh, amber and white musk. The oudh and amber are present. The musk floor is why it wears as wood over skin.

4. Add Mastani for the days you want creamy. SOSA Mastani at ₹389 has Mysore sandalwood beside oudh, Madagascar vanilla and tonka, under jasmine and Damask rose. A deep floral-gourmand, not a quiet daily one.

5. Say the gap out loud. SOSA makes no sandalwood-only attar, so a plain, pure sandalwood does not exist here. If neither arrangement suits and you want no sandalwood at all, SOSA Adaa is the lighter answer.

I cannot tell you what anyone else will make of it, and I will not pretend to. What I can give you is the published note lists and a 3ml that lets you run the five-day test for the price of one small bottle.
Sandalwood over musk wears better daily. SOSA Ameeri at ₹385 is that; SOSA Mastani at ₹389 is the creamier second bottle. SOSA makes no sandalwood-only attar.
What to buy for sandalwood you will wear every day
The product SOSA Ameeri, sandalwood over musk. An alcohol-free, DPG-free roll-on oil on a sandalwood and jojoba carrier, hand-blended in Pune. Soft oudh and amber sit in the base beside white musk.
The size to start on The 3ml, at ₹385. If the habit takes, the 6ml at ₹679 and the 12ml at ₹1,165 are the sizes for a bottle that lives on your desk.
Dabs, and where One dab, the same place each day, so you are comparing days and not doses. The chest or the inner wrist both work. One dab is a whisper and two is a sentence, and a daily bottle should be the whisper.
At hour three What remains by the published pyramid is Indian sandalwood with soft oudh, amber and white musk. By the fifth day you will know if that is a base you still want when you reach for it.
What it costs to stay on it The first 3ml at ₹385 covers three ordinary days, and a fourth and fifth if you want the whole test. SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin. A second 3ml of Mastani at ₹389 is optional.
My honest pick for a daily sandalwood is Ameeri, and I would try it before Mastani, which I love for a slower day. The musk under the wood keeps it wearable on a Tuesday. Mastani is the one I would add after the first week, not instead.

The two sandalwoods in the SOSA range

Three of SOSA's four attars carry sandalwood, and the third, Nawaab, is oud-led, so for daily wear the real choice is between two. Each is an alcohol-free, DPG-free roll-on oil in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml. They differ in where the wood sits and what stands under it: one has the wood in the heart over a musk floor, the other has it in the base with vanilla and tonka. The cards below say so without softening either.

SOSA Ameeri
Sandalwood over musk: the daily one
SOSA Ameeri
₹385 for 3ml, ₹679 for 6ml, ₹1,165 for 12ml. Persian saffron, pink pepper and bergamot over Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, on soft oudh, amber and white musk. The wood is in the heart, not the base, with a musk floor under it. The oudh is soft and present, and the rose over the wood is why it does not read as plain cream.
From ₹385
SOSA Mastani
Creamy sandalwood: the second bottle
SOSA Mastani
₹389 for 3ml, ₹685 for 6ml, ₹1,179 for 12ml. Litchi, bergamot and pink pepper over night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose, on Mysore sandalwood, oudh, Madagascar vanilla and tonka. The wood sits in the base with vanilla and tonka, which is what makes it creamy. Deep, floral and gourmand, so it belongs to slower days.
From ₹389
SOSA Nawaab
The sandalwood that is not a daily one, however good
SOSA Nawaab · alcohol-free roll-on attar
₹399 for 3ml, ₹699 for 6ml, ₹1,199 for 12ml. White royal oud, Mysore sandalwood, Kashmir saffron and aged tobacco leaf over amber, leather and white musk. The sandalwood sits in the top, and the attar is oud-led and the deepest of the four. It is not the answer to this question, so choose it knowingly.

What a week of wearing actually tests

None of these is a promise about your nose. Each is a reason, readable on a pyramid and confirmed over a few days, that one sandalwood suits daily wear and the other suits an occasional one.

1
One
The first wear flatters; the fifth wear tells the truth
A new fragrance is at its most interesting on day one, which is precisely why day one is a poor test. By the fifth morning the novelty has gone, and what is left is whether the base is something you want near you again. A quiet base survives that comfortably. A rich base can begin to feel like too much on the fourth day, and that is not a flaw, only a sign it suits a rotation. Ameeri, with sandalwood over a musk floor, is the arrangement I would expect to pass the fifth-day test. I cannot promise your nose agrees, and neither can anyone else.
Tip: Run the test on five ordinary days, with the same dab in the same place, and write down one word at hour three each time.
SOSA Ameeri
Ameeri at ₹385 is the one I would put through five days in a row, because its base is white musk.

Creamy comes from what is around the wood
Sandalwood is soft by nature, but cream is something added. Vanilla and tonka are the usual partners, and Mastani carries both, in the base with Mysore sandalwood and oudh, beneath jasmine and Damask rose. That is a floral-gourmand structure, warm and sweet, and it is lovely when you have time for it. It is also more fragrance than a morning commute needs. The creaminess is real and it is not the wood alone, so do not expect a plain milky sandalwood from it. If you want to know what the wood does when it is not dressed in cream, that is the argument for trying the other arrangement first.
Tip: If a pyramid lists vanilla or tonka beside the sandalwood, read it as creamy-sweet before you read it as woody.
SOSA Mastani
Mastani at ₹389 is the creamy sandalwood: Mysore wood with Madagascar vanilla and tonka.
See SOSA Mastani →

Three
A musk floor changes what the wood sits on
White musk is a base note in Ameeri, and it is a smooth floor that gives the base a skin-like finish instead of a sweet one. Mastani has no musk in its published base, only oudh, vanilla and tonka. That is the practical difference between the two arrangements. One ends on musk and the other ends on cream. White musk is a base note in Adaa, Ameeri and Nawaab, never the whole composition, and SOSA makes no musk soliflore.
Tip: Look at the last line of the pyramid first. It tells you what you will still be wearing by the afternoon.
SOSA Adaa
Adaa at ₹379 ends on white musk too, with vetiver and cedarwood and no sandalwood note at all.
See SOSA Adaa →
The SOSA principle
A daily fragrance is not the best one you have smelled. It is the one whose base you are still happy to meet on the fifth morning, and a musk floor is a safer bet for that than a vanilla one.
Rich attars are not worse. They are better in rotation, worn on the days you have chosen them for, and a sensible wardrobe holds one of each. Start with the quiet one, because it is the one you will use most, and let the richer one be a decision you make later with a week of evidence behind it.
SOSA Ameeri
The sandalwood for an ordinary week: Ameeri at ₹385: Persian saffron, pink pepper and bergamot, Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, then soft oudh, amber and white musk. An alcohol-free roll-on attar in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml.

A week, day by day

The table below sorts kinds of day, not kinds of fragrance. Each row names the sandalwood this page would reach for and the reason, using only what is on the published pyramids.

The SOSA plan
Five kinds of day, and the sandalwood each one suits
The kind of day Which sandalwood, and why
SOSA AmeeriA desk day: long hours in the same room
Ameeri, one dab. You are the one who lives in it longest, and a musk base is the easier thing to live with across a full day's hours. Nothing in it is meant to be a statement. View →
SOSA AmeeriCommute and errands: in and out of the house
Ameeri again. A fragrance that is the same at the start and the end of an ordinary day is what makes a daily bottle, and the wood over white musk is built for that. View →
SOSA MastaniA slow weekend at home
Mastani. The vanilla, tonka and Mysore sandalwood are at their best when nothing is hurrying you, and the richness does not have to be justified. View →
SOSA MastaniAn evening, planned in advance
Mastani again, as a decision rather than a default. It is the warmer, deeper attar of the two, with oudh in the base. View →
Five days in a row of the same dab
Ameeri is the test, and the answer is yours. If by day five the base still suits you, you have a daily bottle. If not, say so and we will look at Adaa.

If the wood is the part you want to understand better, what makes a woody attar wear close to the skin goes into it. If you suspect clean matters more to you than cream, soft sandalwood against temple incense is the page that sorts the two, and sandalwood-musk or vetiver-musk for a dry, clean wearer compares the wood-and-musk route with the dry one. And if you would rather have one clear next step, describe your week and we will answer in plain words.

SOSA Mastani
The creamier one, for the slower days: Mastani at ₹389: litchi, bergamot and pink pepper, night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose, then Mysore sandalwood, oudh, Madagascar vanilla and tonka. A deep floral-gourmand.
A daily sandalwood or a creamier second one
The fork is simple. Ameeri is sandalwood over a musk floor and the one I would wear on repeat. Mastani is the creamy one, with vanilla and tonka, and the one I would keep for the days that are not ordinary.

A daily fragrance is not the best one you have smelled. It is the one you are still glad to reach for on the fifth morning.

The SOSA specification for daily sandalwood

Two rows. Ameeri is the answer for the reader who wants one sandalwood to wear on repeat, and Mastani is the answer for the reader who wants the creamy one as a second bottle. The note says what neither of them is.

The SOSA specification for daily sandalwood
Ameeri for the working week, Mastani for the slower days
Attar Best for Why it works Price
SOSA Ameeri Sandalwood over a white musk floor, worn every day ₹385 for 3ml. Saffron, pink pepper and bergamot over Taif rose and Indian sandalwood, on soft oudh, amber and white musk ₹385

SOSA Mastani Creamy, vanilla-edged sandalwood for slower days ₹389 for 3ml. Litchi and bergamot over jasmine and Damask rose, on Mysore sandalwood, oudh, Madagascar vanilla and tonka ₹389

Both rows start small: the 3ml of Ameeri at ₹385, then the 3ml of Mastani at ₹389 if you want the second. The larger sizes are a purchase for after a full season: ₹385 for 3ml, ₹679 for 6ml, ₹1,165 for 12ml for Ameeri and ₹389 for 3ml, ₹685 for 6ml, ₹1,179 for 12ml for Mastani. Neither is a sandalwood-only fragrance, because SOSA makes none, and both carry oudh, softly in Ameeri and as a stated note in Mastani. Nawaab is oud-led and is not the answer to this question. SOSA states 6–8 hours on skin for the attars and nothing further; how long any fragrance lasts depends on skin, dose, clothing and the day. A patch test on first use is the only skin advice we give. Nobody can promise you what anyone else will think of it, and I will not. Ours is a contact page and a person who replies: Ask for an attar recommendation and tell us what your week looks like.

A note from Sonal

When someone asks me which sandalwood wears better day to day, I ask them to describe last Thursday. Not the best day. An ordinary one, with the commute and the meeting that ran over. A fragrance has to share that day with you, and a good deal of what makes an attar lovely in the shop makes it tiring by the third afternoon. I would rather answer for the Thursday than for the first spritz.

The two sandalwoods I make are honest about it. Ameeri puts the wood over a white musk, under a rose, and it has soft oudh and amber in the base, which I say plainly. Mastani is richer: Mysore sandalwood, oudh, vanilla and tonka, under jasmine and Damask rose. I love it, and I would wear it on a Saturday. I make no plain sandalwood, and I will not pretend either of these is one.

So the advice is small. One 3ml of Ameeri, one dab in the same place, five days in a row, and a word written down each day at hour three. If the word is still a good one on day five, you have your daily bottle. Nobody can promise you what anyone else will make of it, so the measure is yours. A portion of every purchase supports Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Which SOSA attar is the creamy sandalwood?
SOSA Mastani is the nearest: Mysore sandalwood in the base beside Madagascar vanilla and tonka, with oudh as well, under night-blooming jasmine and Damask rose. The cream comes from the vanilla and tonka around the wood, and it is a floral-gourmand, so it is creamy and sweet rather than creamy and plain.
Is there a sandalwood-only attar in the SOSA range?
No. None of the four is a sandalwood-only fragrance, and SOSA makes no sandalwood soliflore. Sandalwood is in SOSA Ameeri, SOSA Mastani and SOSA Nawaab, each time with other notes, and every attar sits on a sandalwood and jojoba carrier, which is listed apart from the pyramid.
Can I wear Ameeri and Mastani in the same week?
Yes, on different days. They are two separate arrangements, and wearing one at a time lets you tell them apart at hour three. If you buy both, start each on its own 3ml and keep the dab the same, one in the same spot.
Does the white musk make Ameeri lighter than Mastani?
I would not call it lighter, and I cannot promise how it reads on you. White musk is a base note in SOSA Ameeri, and Mastani's published base has none. What I can say is that Ameeri ends on musk and Mastani ends on cream, and that is the difference to judge.
What if neither sandalwood suits my week?
Then you have learned that for ₹385 and not for ₹1,165, which is the point of the 3ml. Write down one word at hour three on each of the five days, tell us how they went, and we will say whether SOSA Adaa, which has no sandalwood note, is the better try.
SOSA Adaa
If neither sandalwood suits your week: Adaa at ₹379 has no sandalwood note and no oudh: bergamot, cardamom and neroli, three white flowers, then white musk, vetiver and cedarwood. The lightest of the four.
