Everyone wants the best sandalwood perfume, and there is no single answer - there is the chandan that suits your skin and your mood. For wearing sandalwood I make two attars, Ameeri (Indian sandalwood) and Nawaab (Mysore sandalwood), plus a Sandalwood car perfume. Here is how I would actually choose.
Quick answers — read this first
Which is the best sandalwood perfume in India? It depends on you. For Indian sandalwood with rose and saffron, Ameeri (₹385); for Mysore sandalwood with white oud, Nawaab (₹399). Both are alcohol-free attars. For the car, the Sandalwood car perfume (₹479).

What is the difference between Ameeri and Nawaab? Ameeri sets Indian sandalwood against Taif rose, saffron and soft oudh - festive and warm. Nawaab pairs Mysore sandalwood with white royal oud and saffron - opulent and evening-leaning.

Are SOSA sandalwood perfumes alcohol-free? Yes. The attars are alcohol-free concentrated oils you press onto pulse points, made from naturally-derived sandalwood accords - not wild or endangered oil - and IFRA-compliant.
The short answer
Indian sandalwood. Ameeri (₹385) - Taif rose + Indian sandalwood + saffron + soft oudh. Festive, warm, office-friendly.
Mysore sandalwood. Nawaab (₹399) - white royal oud + Mysore sandalwood + saffron. Opulent, evening.
Sandalwood for the car. The Sandalwood car perfume (₹479) - warm, creamy chandan for the cabin.
All alcohol-free. Naturally-derived sandalwood accords, IFRA-compliant, never wild or endangered oil. Made in Pune.
Reed diffuser vs scented candle (illustrative, not clinical)SOSA reed diffuser — flame-free, weeks of continuous scentScented candle — warmth + glow, scent while litCheap gel air freshener — fades fast, often synthetic
Illustrative only. A reed diffuser gives a steady, flame-free background scent for weeks; a candle adds warmth and light but scents mainly while burning.
Straight answer
So which is the best sandalwood perfume in India?
There is no single best, and any honest perfumer will tell you so. The best sandalwood perfume is the one that is alcohol-free or honestly made, names its materials, and uses sandalwood responsibly rather than wild or endangered oil. On those terms, from our range I would point you two ways. For Indian sandalwood woven with Taif rose, saffron and soft oudh, wear Ameeri (₹385) - festive, warm, office-friendly. For Mysore sandalwood set against white royal oud and saffron, wear Nawaab (₹399) - opulent and evening-leaning. For sandalwood in the car rather than on the skin, the Sandalwood car perfume (₹479) carries a warm, creamy chandan through the cabin. All use naturally-derived sandalwood accords. If another brand meets the same checklist, wear it happily.
In one line: for Indian sandalwood wear Ameeri, for Mysore sandalwood wear Nawaab, and for the car use the Sandalwood car perfume - all alcohol-free or honestly made, with naturally-derived chandan.
New to wearing sandalwood? Ameeri - Indian sandalwood with rose and saffron - is the easiest place to start.

How to judge a sandalwood perfume

Sandalwood is one of the most faked notes in perfume, so a little knowledge protects your money. Here is how I would judge any sandalwood scent, ours included, before I judged the smell at all.

What good sandalwood smells like
Real chandan is warm, creamy and soft-woody - it sits low and lingers rather than shouting. A cheap synthetic sandalwood often reads sharp, dry or like a scratchy agarbatti. In a perfume, sandalwood usually plays a base note: it anchors brighter materials like rose or saffron and gives the scent its grounding warmth. SOSA uses naturally-derived sandalwood accords, IFRA-compliant, never wild or endangered oil.

The checks I would run are simple. First, does the brand name its materials - and tell you whether the sandalwood is real, naturally-derived or synthetic? Second, is it alcohol-free or honestly formulated - an attar oil sits close and long, an alcohol spray projects harder but flashes off faster. Third, and this is the one too many skip, is the sandalwood sourced responsibly? Wild Indian sandalwood is over-harvested and protected; a responsible maker uses a naturally-derived accord and says so.

Indian vs Mysore sandalwood
Both are chandan; the names point to character. Indian sandalwood reads soft and rosy-warm; Mysore sandalwood is the classic, creamier and more opulent reference.
In our range, Ameeri leads with an Indian-sandalwood warmth beside Taif rose, while Nawaab leans on a Mysore-sandalwood creaminess under white oud. Neither uses endangered oil - both are naturally-derived accords composed to evoke those classic profiles honestly.

Where SOSA fits

I will not pretend ours are the only good sandalwood scents in India. What I can do is map our own range honestly, because I composed each one around a different facet of chandan.

SOSA sandalwood scents
Which one to reach for
If you want Reach for Character
Indian sandalwood, festive warmth Ameeri (₹385) Taif rose + Indian sandalwood + saffron + soft oudh
Mysore sandalwood, opulent evening Nawaab (₹399) White royal oud + Mysore sandalwood + saffron
Sandalwood in the car Sandalwood car perfume (₹479) Warm, creamy chandan for the cabin

If you are choosing between the two attars, think about occasion. Ameeri is the one I reach for in daytime and at festivals - the rose lifts the sandalwood and keeps it office-friendly. Nawaab is for the evening, where the white oud and Mysore-sandalwood creaminess turn opulent. Both are alcohol-free concentrated oils: a little on the wrist lasts, sits close, and never gives the alcohol headache a spray can.

Good sandalwood does not shout - it grounds everything else in the perfume and lingers on warm skin.

For the car rather than the skin, the Sandalwood car perfume carries that same warm chandan through a sealed cabin. Whichever you choose, it is built from naturally-derived, IFRA-compliant sandalwood and composed in Pune.

A note from Sonal

I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, and home fragrance is where I get to think room by room - a flame-free reed diffuser for the hall, a hand-poured candle for the evening, a wax melt when you want to change the mood without a match.

Our reed diffusers are alcohol-free and flame-free, our candles hand-poured from a natural soy blend, all built from real materials and IFRA-compliant. I would rather tell you which format suits which room than sell you the most expensive one.

Buy well, not by reflex. If another brand is honestly made, light it happily. I just wanted home scent with the precision of a trained nose and a label that tells you the truth.
