How each one actually works

An aerosol is a sealed can under pressure. A propellant gas sits inside alongside the fragrance, and when you press the button, that gas pushes a burst of product out through the nozzle. The amount is largely fixed - you press, the can delivers its set dose. It is convenient, but you are not really in charge of how much comes out, and you are buying a can of propellant along with your scent.

A non-aerosol pump is mechanical. There is no pressurised gas - pressing the pump head physically draws liquid up and pushes it through a fine nozzle as a mist.
