Founder Diaries · Car Perfumes, Parking & How a Car Is Actually Used
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 9 min read Updated September 2026
A car bought second-hand is two purchases in one: the vehicle, and somebody else's years of using it. The second is the part nobody itemises. Before a fragrance routine can be any good, you need to know what this cabin is like when it is simply yours - and on the day you take delivery you do not, because you have had it for an hour. Starting a scent routine at that point means building a habit on a baseline you have never observed, and then spending months unable to tell which of the two things you are reacting to. The order that solves it is dull and it is free: have the interior properly cleaned, drive it plain for a fortnight, and start the routine on a car you have actually met.
SOSA Jasmine car perfume, spray or hanging, from Rs 449
SOSA car perfume · spray or hanging, same price · nine scents from ₹449 →
The useful order in a second-hand car is the patient one. Clean the interior properly, drive it plain for a fortnight, then start the routine - because a fragrance is an addition, and an addition can only be judged against a cabin you have actually observed. Start small when you do: a 10ml spray is ₹449 to ₹549 and holds 100 sprays, which is 3 months and above at one press a day.
Quick answers — read this first
Should professional interior cleaning come before starting a car fragrance routine in a used car? Yes, and the reason is sequencing rather than hygiene. You cannot judge what a fragrance is doing in a cabin whose ordinary state you have never observed. Have it cleaned, drive it with nothing added for a fortnight, and only then begin - the routine you build will be a response to this car rather than to its previous owner.

Will a car perfume deal with what a previous owner left behind? No. Fragrance adds a scent to a cabin; it does not remove, neutralise or mask one. That is the honest limit of the category and it applies to every product in it. Cleaning changes the car; a fragrance adds something you chose on top of it. The two jobs are different and only one of them is a purchase from a fragrance house.

Does fabric upholstery change the fragrance advice? It does not change any published advice, because there is none to change. SOSA publishes nothing about interior materials, so no claim about fabric against leatherette can be made here in either direction. What is true of your car is simpler: it has a history you did not write, and a proper clean is how you draw a line under it.
The short answer
Short answer: Yes, clean first. A pre-owned cabin carries a history you did not write, and you cannot judge a fragrance routine against a baseline you have never observed. Have the interior professionally cleaned, drive it plain for a fortnight, then start - and start small, because a 10ml SOSA spray at Rs 449 to Rs 549 holds 100 sprays, which is 3 months and above at one a day.
The pick: A 10ml SOSA car perfume spray, ₹449 to ₹549 - 100 sprays, started at one press a day after the clean rather than on the day the car arrived.
Why: Cleaning changes the car and fragrance adds to it, so doing them in the wrong order leaves you unable to tell which of the two you are reacting to for months.
What the car runs on is not the variable. How it is used is.On demand - 10ml spray ₹449 to ₹549, published at 100 spraysContinuous - 12ml hanging, same price, 4 to 6 weeksVentilate a hot or long-shut cabin before you judge itNever - fragrance instead of finding a smell's source
A car spends most of its life empty. The hours that matter are the ones somebody is sitting in it, and on a typical commute that is one or two out of twenty-four. The useful decision is therefore not which product lasts longest while nobody is there - it is whether you want fragrance you switch on or fragrance that simply runs. A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays, which is three months at one a day and fifty days at two; a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks and its stopper loosens for more or tightens for less. Nothing here depends on what is under the bonnet.
Straight answer
I have bought a pre-owned diesel hatchback with fabric seats and years of accumulated use. Should professional interior cleaning come before I establish my own fragrance routine?
Yes, and the argument is about sequence rather than about cleanliness. A used car comes with a history you did not write and cannot inventory: what was carried, what was spilled, whether the previous owner had a fragrance habit of their own, what the mats have been through. Until that is dealt with and you have lived with the result, you have no baseline, and a routine built without one is untestable - for months you will be unable to say whether what you notice is the car or the bottle. So: have the interior properly cleaned by somebody who does it for a living, and have them cover the ordinary places rather than only the visible ones - under the mats, the boot and its spare-wheel well, the cabin filter and its housing, the door seals, and the space under the seats. Then drive it plain for a fortnight. One honest note on your fabric seats: SOSA publishes nothing whatsoever about interior materials, so nobody here can tell you that fabric behaves differently from leatherette, and this page will not pretend otherwise in either direction. What matters is the history, not the material. When you do start, start small and deliberately. A 10ml spray is ₹449 for Jasmine, ₹479 for Lavender and Sandalwood, ₹489 for Icy Mint, ₹499 for Lemon, ₹509 for Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze and ₹549 for Mysore Orange Blossom, and it holds 100 sprays, published as 3 months and above at one spray a day or 50 days at two a day. Begin at one press and leave it there for a few weeks; it is far easier to raise a rate than to unlearn one. The 12ml hanging costs the same for the same scent, runs 4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion in refillable glass and has a stopper that loosens for stronger or tightens for subtler - a good choice for somebody who would rather set it once. Resist the 50ml at ₹1,499, which is 500 sprays and about a year and more, until your rate has settled. And two limits: fragrance adds a scent and does not remove one, so the cleaning is not optional dressing on this advice, it is the part that does the work; and the car being diesel changes nothing, because SOSA publishes no powertrain-specific product and no powertrain claim. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Clean it, drive it plain for a fortnight, then start at one press. You cannot test a routine against a cabin you have never met.
For a car somebody else owned first: clean, wait, then begin. A fortnight of plain driving is the baseline everything afterwards is judged against, and it costs nothing. Then start at one press: a 10ml at ₹449 to ₹549 is 100 sprays, 3 months and above at one a day. Raising a rate later is easy; unlearning one is not.

Three reasons the cleaning comes first in a car you did not own last month

Most advice about a used car's interior is about resale or about appearance. This is neither. It is about being able to tell, three months from now, what is actually going on in your own cabin. Three reasons the order matters, and one thing this page refuses to claim.

01
The baseline
You cannot judge an addition against a state you have never observed
This is the whole argument in one line. A fragrance adds something to a cabin, so the value of it is the difference between the cabin with and without - and on day one of a used car you have never seen the without. Clean the interior, then drive it for a fortnight with nothing added at all. That fortnight is not wasted time; it is the control against which everything afterwards is judged, and it costs nothing. People who skip it end up buying a second scent within two months, not because the first was wrong but because they never had a way to tell.
Tip: A fortnight of plain driving is the cheapest piece of information you will buy for this car.
02
What the clean covers
The places a quick valet skips are the places that hold a history
Ask for the ordinary ones by name: under every mat, the boot and its spare-wheel well, the cabin filter and its housing, the door and tailgate seals, and under the seats. Those are where years of use accumulate in a car that has had one or two owners before you. This is work for somebody who does interiors daily, and it is worth paying properly for once rather than twice cheaply. What it is not is a fragrance job: a spray adds a scent to a cabin and does not remove one, so nothing you buy from a fragrance house is a substitute for this step, and no page here will suggest otherwise.
03
The material question
Fabric against leatherette is not a claim this page can make
You mentioned fabric seats, and the honest answer is a gap rather than an argument. SOSA publishes nothing about interior materials at all - no fabric claim, no leatherette claim, no recommendation by trim - so any page telling you that one holds a fragrance differently from the other is making it up. The variables that are genuinely published are the ones this bank keeps returning to: a 10ml is 100 sprays, one press a day is 3 months and above, two a day is 50 days, a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks and its stopper is the adjustment. Those apply to your car whatever the seats are covered in.
Tip: Where nothing is published, the useful thing to say is that nothing is published.
SOSA Mysore Orange Blossom car perfume spray, 10ml and 50ml
The one number that settles most of this
A 10ml spray is 100 sprays. The rest is division.
SOSA publishes the count on the bottle: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, and the 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. The pages state the working too - three months and above at one spray a day, and fifty days at two a day. That turns a vague question into an arithmetic one. Spray before every journey and somebody making four short trips a day is out of a 10ml in about twenty-five days; the same bottle in the hands of somebody who sprays once each morning lasts the published three months. Neither is wrong - but only one of them is what the person expected when they bought it. Work out your own number before you decide the product is not lasting, because a hundred sprays is a hundred sprays regardless of how the car is powered.
See Mysore Orange Blossom from ₹549 →
Work it out in this order
The first month with a pre-owned cabin
  1. Book a proper interior clean: mats, boot well, filter housing, seals, under the seats.
  2. Drive it plain for a fortnight. No fragrance at all. That fortnight is your baseline.
  3. Start at one press a day of a 10ml. It is 100 sprays, 3 months and above at one a day.
  4. Leave the rate alone for a month before deciding anything, then adjust once.
The SOSA principle
A second-hand car comes with somebody else's history. Clean it, live with it plain for a fortnight, and start your routine on a cabin you have actually met rather than on one you inherited.
Which also means the first purchase should be the small one - a 10ml at 100 sprays, held at a single press, rather than a year of fragrance bought before the car is known.

Starting a routine on a cabin you know, and in what size

When the fortnight is up, the range divides by character and both formats cost the same for the same scent. Jasmine at ₹449 and Lavender at ₹479 are the soft end, with Lavender published as the softest of the range. Lemon at ₹499, Icy Mint at ₹489 and Sea Breeze at ₹509 are the bright ones, and are what most people reach for in a freshly cleaned cabin. Sandalwood at ₹479, Vetiver at ₹509 and Oud at ₹509 are the deep end, Oud published as the deepest. Mysore Orange Blossom at ₹549 is spray only, with no hanging version and no refill. If you would rather try characters before committing, the Discovery Set publishes nine fixed combinations from ₹699, up to all nine sprays at ₹2,999 - you pick one of the published nine rather than assembling your own.

The SOSA gift edit
Four ways to start in a used car, and where each one fails
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
Professional clean, then a fortnight with nothing added The order this page argues for, and the only one that gives you a baseline. It fails on impatience, and on the fact that a new car feels like an occasion and waiting two weeks does not.
Clean first, then start at one press a day The same sequence with the waiting shortened. A 10ml is 100 sprays, so one a day is 3 months and above. It fails a little on rigour - you will know what the fragrance does, but not quite what the cabin was like without it.
Start the routine on day one, before anything is cleaned What most people do. It fails on testability: for months you cannot separate the car from the bottle, and the usual outcome is a second scent bought for a reason that was never about scent.
Buy the 50ml at ₹1,499 straight away 500 sprays and about a year and more, which is the right size eventually and the wrong one now. It fails because you would be committing a year of fragrance to a routine you have not tested for a fortnight, and there is no spray refill.
SOSA Lavender car perfume, spray and hanging formats
The format choice, and why price does not decide it
Spray or hanging - the same price, scent for scent
This is the unusual part of the SOSA car range and it makes the decision cleaner than it usually is: the spray and the hanging cost the same for any given scent - ₹449 for Jasmine, ₹479 for Lavender and Sandalwood, ₹489 for Icy Mint, ₹499 for Lemon, ₹509 for Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze. So you are not trading money against convenience; you are choosing between fragrance you decide to have and fragrance that is simply there. The spray is 100 sprays in 10ml and you control every one of them. The hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks in refillable glass and asks nothing of you, and its stopper is the strength control - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler. One further practical difference that decides it for some people: 15ml refills exist for the hanging and there is no spray refill at all.
See SOSA car perfumes from ₹449 →

Two notes for a car you plan to keep. 15ml refills exist for the hanging at ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents in a refillable glass bottle, which makes the hanging the format that stays rather than repeats - and there is no spray refill at all, so a spray is replaced. The whole range is alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated and tested for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent humidity; that is a stability statement about the bottle rather than a claim that any scent behaves differently in one season. SOSA is a fragrance house in Pune with delivery across India, and bulk orders are welcome with no published rates - the route for that, and for a recommendation, is WhatsApp.

The premise worth rejecting before anything else
A fragrance does not know what is turning the wheels.
There is no petrol product, no diesel product and no electric product in the SOSA range, and SOSA publishes nothing whatsoever about powertrain - because a perfume in a closed cabin behaves the same way whether that cabin is being pushed along by a battery or an engine. What genuinely differs between two owners is everything else: where the car is parked and for how long, how many separate journeys it makes in a day, how many of those hours anybody is actually inside it, whether the windows are open, and who else is in the car. Those are real variables and they change the answer completely. The published figures speak to them directly: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, which is three months and more at one a day and fifty days at two; a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks continuously with a stopper that loosens for more and tightens for less; the 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. So when two people with identical cars need different answers, it is never because one of them is electric.

One message, one honest recommendation
Tell SOSA how many hours a day somebody is actually sitting in the car, where it is parked and for how long, whether the windows are usually open or shut, and who else drives it - and you will be told which format and how much, including the times the honest answer is the hanging at the same price because you would rather not think about it.

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every car fragrance decision, and neither of them is what the car runs on. How many hours a day is somebody actually sitting in it? A 25 km commute is about an hour; a field job can be four. That number decides how much of what you buy is experienced by anybody at all, because the rest of the day is a sealed cabin in a parking bay. Then: do you want fragrance you switch on, or fragrance that simply runs? The 10ml spray holds 100 sprays and does nothing until you press it; the 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks whether anybody is there or not, and its stopper loosens for stronger or tightens for subtler. They cost the same for the same scent, so price does not decide it - which is unusual, and useful.

The SOSA range, sorted by how much it asks of the person receiving it
Start from what the gift demands, not from what it costs
Product What it is What it is for Price
SOSA car perfume spray - 10ml Fragrance you switch on ₹449 to ₹549 across nine scents. Published at 100 sprays - 3 months and above at one a day, 50 days at two a day. A fine-mist atomizer; one spray covers the cabin from ₹449
SOSA car hanging - 12ml Fragrance that simply runs The same price as the spray, scent for scent. Published at 4 to 6 weeks of continuous diffusion in a refillable glass bottle, and the stopper adjusts it - loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler from ₹449
SOSA car perfume spray - 50ml The long-run size ₹1,499, published at 500 sprays and about a year and more. The honest size when you already know the routine, and the wrong one while you are still working it out ₹1,499
Car perfume combos Two scents, one purchase ₹899 for Jasmine & Lemon or Jasmine & Lavender; ₹949 for Oud + Lemon or Sandalwood & Oud. Spray combo (2 x 10ml) or hanging combo (2 x 12ml) at the same price. Four published pairs from ₹899
Car Perfume Sprays Discovery Set Three to try ₹699 to ₹899 for three sprays, or ₹2,999 for all nine. Nine published combinations, and those nine are the whole range - none is composed to order from ₹699
Hanging refills - 15ml Only the hanging refills ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents. There is no spray refill, and Orange Blossom has no refill at all - so if refilling matters, that decides the format for you from ₹399
SOSA Safar The powered option ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired sets. A different category from a spray or a hanging, and listed here so you can rule it in or out rather than wonder from ₹3,999

The fact that answers most of these questions is a division sum. A 10ml spray is published at 100 sprays. Somebody who sprays before each of four short daily trips empties it in about twenty-five days; somebody who sprays once a day gets the published three months and more. The 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more. The 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks instead, continuously, and its stopper adjusts the strength - loosen for more, tighten for less. Spray and hanging are the same price scent for scent, so the choice is genuinely about how you want to use the car rather than what you want to spend. Everything is alcohol-free, phthalate-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent humidity, made in India. Fragrance adds a scent to a cabin; it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour and it does not clean the air - so a car that has developed a smell is a question about the car, not about the perfume. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available, with quantities settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, sending orders across India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

What the SOSA car pages publish, and what they do not
Everything below is on the live product pages. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
  • Nine scents, two formats, one price each - Jasmine ₹449; Lavender and Sandalwood ₹479; Icy Mint ₹489; Lemon ₹499; Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze ₹509. Each is sold as a spray or a hanging at the same price. Mysore Orange Blossom is ₹549 and is spray only.
  • The published quantities - a 10ml spray is 100 sprays, stated as 3 months and above at one a day and 50 days at two a day. The 50ml is 500 sprays and about a year and more, at ₹1,499. A spray combo is 200 sprays, stated as 100 days at two a day rotating. These are the only usage figures SOSA gives.
  • The hanging - 4 to 6 weeks (28 to 42 days) of continuous diffusion per 12ml bottle, in refillable glass, and the stopper adjusts the strength: loosen for stronger, tighten for subtler.
  • Combos and the Discovery Set - four published pairs at ₹899 and ₹949, as a spray combo (2 x 10ml) or a hanging combo (2 x 12ml) at the same price. The Discovery Set is ₹699 to ₹899 for three sprays and ₹2,999 for all nine. Those nine combinations are the entire set range and none is composed to order.
  • Refills - 15ml hanging refills at ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents. There is no spray refill and Orange Blossom has no refill.
  • The formulation - alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent relative humidity, made in India.
  • Not published, and therefore never stated here: any difference between a petrol, diesel or electric car; any cabin-volume, coverage, scent-throw or evaporation figure; any claim about how a scent is perceived over hours; any seasonal performance claim; any shelf life or concentration; any health effect in either direction; any bulk rate, minimum quantity, price break or lead time. A note from Sonal

We get asked which car perfume is right for an electric car, and I have never been able to give the answer the question wants. There isn't one. A fragrance sits in a closed box of air with a person in it, and that box does not behave differently because the thing moving it is a battery. If anyone tells you otherwise they are selling you a category, not a product.

What I can tell you is what actually changes between two owners, because it is not subtle. One car is occupied ninety minutes a day and another is occupied six. One sits in a basement and one bakes outdoors for nine hours. One has the windows down for the first ten minutes of every drive and one never opens them at all. One is driven by three people who want three different things from it. Those differences are enormous, and none of them is on the spec sheet of the car.

So the numbers I would want you to hold on to are the ones about use rather than about chemistry. A 10ml spray is a hundred sprays. That is three months if you spray once a day and about fifty days if you spray twice, and if you spray before every one of four short errands it is gone in under a month. The hanging runs four to six weeks and you can loosen or tighten the stopper to change it. Those two facts settle more of these questions than anything I could tell you about the car.

And the part I will not pretend about: a perfume cannot fix a smell. It adds a scent, it does not remove one. If a car has started smelling of something it did not smell of before, that is a question about the car - the air-conditioning, the mats, something in the boot, water that got in during the monsoon - and adding fragrance on top of it is the one thing I would ask you not to do.

Frequently asked questions

Should I have a used car's interior cleaned before starting a fragrance routine?
Yes. A pre-owned cabin carries a history you did not write, and until it is cleaned and you have lived with the result you have no baseline to judge a fragrance against. Have the mats, the boot well, the cabin filter housing, the seals and under the seats covered, then drive it plain for a fortnight before you add anything.
Will a car perfume take care of what the previous owner left behind?
No. Fragrance adds a scent to a cabin and does not remove, neutralise or mask one. That is the honest limit of the whole category. Cleaning changes the car; a fragrance adds something you chose on top of whatever the car is. Doing them in the wrong order simply means you cannot tell the two apart.
Do fabric seats need a different approach from leatherette?
SOSA publishes nothing at all about interior materials, so no claim can be made here in either direction and none will be. What is published applies to any car: a 10ml spray is 100 sprays at 3 months and above at one a day, a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks in refillable glass, and its stopper loosens for stronger or tightens for subtler.
Does a pre-owned diesel hatchback need a particular car perfume?
No. SOSA publishes no petrol, diesel or electric product and makes no powertrain claim, so the fuel is not a variable here. What is a variable is that the car has been used by somebody else for years, which is a cleaning question, and how many hours a day you will now be in it, which is a format question.
What size should I start with?
The 10ml, at Rs 449 to Rs 549 depending on the scent. It holds 100 sprays, published as 3 months and above at one a day or 50 days at two a day, which is enough to learn your own rate without committing to it. The 50ml is Rs 1,499 and 500 sprays at about a year and more - the right buy once the routine has stopped moving, and there is no spray refill.

Eight are sold in two formats at the same price per scent - a 10ml spray and a 12ml hanging: Jasmine ₹449; Lavender and Sandalwood ₹479; Icy Mint ₹489; Lemon ₹499; Oud, Vetiver and Sea Breeze ₹509. Mysore Orange Blossom is spray only, ₹549 in 10ml. A 50ml spray is ₹1,499. The published quantities are: 10ml equals 100 sprays, stated as three months and above at one spray a day and fifty days at two a day; 50ml equals 500 sprays, stated as about a year and more; a spray combo is 200 sprays; and a 12ml hanging runs 4 to 6 weeks, that is 28 to 42 days, of continuous diffusion in a refillable glass bottle whose stopper loosens for stronger and tightens for subtler. Four combos are published - Jasmine & Lemon and Jasmine & Lavender at ₹899, Oud + Lemon and Sandalwood & Oud at ₹949 - each as a spray combo of 2 x 10ml or a hanging combo of 2 x 12ml at the same price. The Car Perfume Sprays Discovery Set publishes nine combinations, ₹699 to ₹899 for three and ₹2,999 for all nine; those nine are the entire set range and none is composed to order. Hanging refills are 15ml at ₹399 to ₹449 across eight scents; there is no spray refill and Orange Blossom has no refill. Everything is alcohol-free, phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, formulated for 45 degrees C heat and 85 per cent relative humidity, made in India. SOSA Safar is ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired sets. What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any difference in fragrance behaviour between petrol, diesel and electric vehicles - SOSA makes no powertrain-specific product and no powertrain claim; any cabin-volume, coverage, scent-throw, projection or evaporation figure; any claim about how a scent is perceived over hours or about sensory adaptation; any seasonal performance claim beyond the stated formulation for heat and humidity; any shelf life, expiry or concentration; and any bulk rate, minimum quantity, price break or lead time. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a cabin. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour, it does not clean the air, and a car that has developed a new smell is a question about the vehicle rather than about perfume. No health claim is made anywhere on this page, in either direction - nothing here states or implies that any fragrance causes or prevents a headache, nausea, motion sickness or any other effect, and nothing is said about safety in pregnancy or for children or the elderly, because SOSA publishes no information this page can rely on. No third-party brand is named and no competitor or category of competing product is characterised. No rating, review count, strength percentage or customer name from any product page is cited. Bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available; that is the only branding option, and quantities are settled on WhatsApp. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
