The reception desk smells exactly right. Ten metres in, between the display kitchens, there is nothing at all. That is not a weak machine. It is a source that has been put where the people are instead of where the air goes.
Quick answers — read this first
Why can I smell the fragrance at reception but not across the showroom? Because the source is at reception, usually at desk height beside a socket, and nothing is carrying it further. Either the AC return is near the desk and takes the scent out before it travels, or the display kitchens and partitions between reception and the floor block the path at the height the scent is released, or the source is a reed diffuser, which reaches one desk zone by design. In every case it is distribution, not strength.

Should I turn the machine up until the far displays smell of it? No. Turning up a badly placed source gives the advisor at the desk a level nobody should breathe for nine hours and still gives the far displays nothing, because the air path has not changed. Move the source instead: high on a wall the AC supply crosses, away from the return, above the partition line. Then set the level from the far point with the team and lock it.

What is the honest fix, and what does it cost? If the source is a reed, it is working as designed and the floor needs a range control: one SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999, waterless, wall-mounted, timer and key-lock, for a connected floor of roughly 1,500-3,000 sq ft. If the source is already a machine, the fix costs a cable run and a wall bracket, not a second machine. Fragrance is an interiors decision like lighting or music - SOSA makes no claim that it changes dwell time, footfall or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance.
The short answer
Short answer: the scent stops at reception because the source is at reception: at desk height, near the return, behind the partitions, or a reed that was only ever going to reach one desk. Move the source high onto the wall the AC supply crosses, set the level from the far point, lock it. Do not turn it up.
The pick: if you are running a reed, keep it at the desk and add one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) wall-mounted on the supply side for the floor; if you already own a Vaayu, the fix is a bracket and a cable, not a second unit. A Mountain Breeze reed (₹849) stays the right answer for a studio under about 750 sq ft.
Next step: send a plan with the desk, the AC grilles and the display kitchens marked - ask for a showroom scenting plan and we will say where the source should be.
Why the scent stops at reception, in five linesThe source is at the desk, at desk height, beside a socketThe AC return near reception takes it out before it travelsDisplay kitchens and partitions block it at that heightA reed reaches one desk zone - that is the design, not a faultMove the source high and into the supply path - never turn it up
Strength is the last thing to change. Position and height are the first two, and they are almost always the whole answer.
Range control, and the reed that was never meant to be one - tap to see each
Straight answer
Why can I smell fragrance at reception but not across the rest of the showroom?
Because the fragrance is being released at reception and nothing is taking it anywhere else. That sounds too simple to be the answer, and it is the answer in nearly every showroom that asks. Fragrance does not spread by itself in any useful way; it goes where the air goes, and if the air at the desk is not moving across the floor, the scent stays at the desk. So the diagnosis is a short list. First, height. A machine on the reception counter or a shelf beside the socket releases at desk height, which is where the advisor breathes and where the floor's eddies keep it. Released high, it joins the AC supply above head height and comes down across the displays. Second, the return. Reception is very often near a return grille, because reception is near the entrance and the plant room tends to sit on the same wall. Air near a return is leaving the room, and it takes the scent with it. Third, the partitions. An appliance floor is a set of display kitchens, and each one is a three-sided box with a tall panel on the reception side. At desk height those panels are walls; above the partition line they are nothing. Do multiple kitchen displays and partition walls affect distribution is the full version. Fourth, the product. If the source is a reed diffuser, it is doing exactly what it was designed to do. A reed reaches one seating or desk zone and no further; six reeds reach the same zone a little more strongly. Why can I smell my reed only near the billing desk and reeds too weak for the showroom say this at length: reeds are a volume control, never a range control. Now the thing not to do. Every owner's instinct is to turn the machine up until the far kitchens smell of it. On a badly placed source that gives the desk a level nobody should breathe for nine hours, feeds the return more, and still leaves the far corner with nothing, because the path has not changed. Move the source, do not turn it up. High on the wall the supply crosses, as far from the return as the plan allows, above the partition line; then set the level from the far point of the floor with the team at five in the afternoon, and lock it - the key-lock on the SOSA Vaayu exists so the fix stays fixed. If you are on a reed, keep it at the desk and add one Vaayu at ₹11,999 for the floor, waterless and wall-mounted; if you already own a Vaayu, the fix is a bracket and a cable, not a second machine, because one connected volume of air takes one machine. And the frame: fragrance is an interiors decision, like lighting or music. SOSA makes no claim that it changes dwell time, footfall, conversion or sales, no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish, and it is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction. The live kitchen and coffee counter stay unscented whatever the placement. Ask for a showroom scenting plan and mark the desk, the grilles and the display kitchens on what you send.
Scent at reception only means the source is at reception: desk height, near the return, behind the partitions, or a reed that reaches one desk by design. Move the source high onto the supply wall; do not turn it up. Reed at the desk (Rs 849) plus one Vaayu (Rs 11,999) wall-mounted for the floor.
For the floor beyond the desk, one SOSA Vaayu - waterless, 1000m³, wall-mounted, timer and key-lock - at ₹11,999. The reed stays where it is; the machine goes where the air goes.

The four reasons scent stops at the desk

Four causes, in the order to check them. Three are about where the source is; the fourth is about what the source is. None of them is fixed by the intensity dial.

1
Height
Desk height keeps it at the desk
Nebulised fragrance is dry and light and it stays in whatever layer of air it is released into. At counter height that layer is the advisor's breathing space, and the eddies around a desk - people passing, a door opening, a printer fan - keep it circulating there and nowhere else. A source high on the wall joins the supply stream above head height and settles across the floor as the conditioned air does. This is why the Vaayu wall-mounts and why we say run the cable rather than move the machine to the socket. The test is cheap: lift the machine to a high shelf on the same wall for a day, and walk the floor at five in the afternoon. If the far kitchens have a trace and the desk has less, height was most of the problem. The setting can then come down, not up, which the advisor will notice before anyone else does.
Test: one day on a high shelf on the same wall tells you whether height is the cause before you buy a bracket.
SOSA Vaayu
The Vaayu mounts high on the wall so the release point is in the supply stream, not the advisor's breathing space.

2
The return
Reception is usually next to the drain
Look at where your plant room is. On most retail floors the return grilles cluster near the entrance wall or the corridor to the back of house, which is also where reception sits. Air within a few metres of a return is on its way out of the room, and any fragrance in it is filtered or diluted through the whole plant before it comes back. A machine at reception near a return is therefore feeding the drain, and the experience from the floor is exactly the one this page is about: the desk smells of it, the tank empties on schedule, the displays smell of nothing. The correct move is distance from the return and alignment with the supply: where the machine goes on a central-AC floor gives the grille-by-grille version. More output is the wrong move, because the return removes a fixed fraction of whatever passes it - turn it up and the return simply takes more.
Rule: hold a tissue near the grille by reception. If it leans towards the grille, that grille is the reason.
3
The partitions
Display kitchens are walls at desk height and nothing above it
An appliance floor designed as a set of real kitchens is a set of three-sided boxes, and each one has a tall back panel or a partition facing reception. At the height a counter-top machine releases, those panels are solid; the scent reaches the first panel and stops, which is why the corridor between the first two kitchens is often the last place anyone can smell anything. Above the partition line the air is continuous across the whole floor, and that is where the source belongs. Mount above the tallest partition on the supply side and the boxes stop being obstacles. Do multiple kitchen displays and partition walls affect fragrance distribution is the full treatment, and how to scent a long, narrow showroom is the same idea on a corridor floor where every kitchen is in a row. Nothing is placed inside a display kitchen: a source in a small enclosed set over-scents it in minutes and still reaches nothing outside it.
Rule: the mounting height is the height of the tallest partition, or higher, never the height of the counter.
4
The product
A reed at the desk is doing its job - the floor needs a different one
If the source is a reed diffuser, nothing is wrong. A reed evaporates fragrance from six fibre stems into still air and reaches one seating or desk zone; that is what it is for, and in a studio under about 750 sq ft it is the honest answer. Adding reeds adds strength in the same zone, not reach. A Sukoon reaches one studio room and adds a little moisture doing it, which is worth saying plainly on an electronics floor. Past that, the floor needs a range control, which is what a nebulising machine is: the Vaayu pushes a dry, fine output into moving air and the AC does the rest. So the honest plan for a floor that started with a reed is to keep the reed at the desk in the same register and add one Vaayu at ₹11,999 for the floor, mounted high on the supply side. On the merchandise, one thing only: SOSA makes no claim about what fragrance does to any appliance or finish; the product fact is that a waterless machine adds no moisture and leaves no residue.

Mountain Breeze at the desk stays exactly where it is - the machine takes the floor in the same register.

The SOSA principle
If the desk smells right and the floor smells of nothing, the fragrance is not too weak - it is being released where the air does not go. Move the source before you touch the dial.
Height, the return, the partitions, the product. Strength is the fifth thing, and it usually goes down, not up.
SOSA Vaayu
The fix for a floor that stops at the desk: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, waterless, wall-mounted high on the supply side, timer and key-lock, up to 1000m³ of connected air.

Symptom by symptom: what the floor is telling you

Here is the diagnosis as a table. Walk the floor at five in the afternoon with someone from the team, note what each zone smells of, and read down.

The SOSA diagnosis
Reception smells right - what the rest of the floor means
What you notice What it means, and the fix
Strong at the desk, nothing beyond the first display kitchen
Desk-height release behind a partition. Mount high on the supply wall above the partition line; the level then comes down.
Strong at the desk, tank empties on schedule, floor smells of nothing
The source is near a return grille. Move it away from the return and onto the supply side; do not raise the setting.

SOSA VaayuA Vaayu at the desk, strong there, thin at the far kitchens

Nothing anywhere while the hob demo or the coffee counter is running
Correct. The demonstration owns the air, the machine is off on the timer, extraction is running. Fragrance returns when the room smells of nothing.

The neighbouring pages cover the cases this table only names: strong in one zone, weak in another is the gradient across a floor that has already left the desk, where the machine goes with central AC is the grille map, and even fragrance across multiple display zones is the family pillar. For what the floor should smell of once it reaches, what a premium appliance showroom should smell like sets the register. SOSA makes no claim that any of this affects dwell time, footfall, conversion or sales.

The reed keeps the desk: one Mountain Breeze reed diffuser at reception, ₹849 for 50ml, 6-8 weeks, one desk zone - exactly as designed.

A fragrance you can only smell at reception is not weak. It is standing where you left it, waiting for air that never comes.

Between 750 and 1,500 sq ft a Vaayu is bought for control, no water and distribution - never for coverage. Fragrance here is an interiors decision like lighting or music, with no claim about footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish. A note from Sonal

This is the complaint I hear most from appliance showrooms, and it arrives in the same words every time: it is lovely at the desk and there is nothing on the floor. The owner has usually already tried turning it up, and the advisor at the desk has usually already asked them to turn it back down. Both of them are right. The desk is over-scented and the floor is unscented because the source is at the desk, at desk height, and nothing is carrying it anywhere.

I ask three questions before I say anything about product. Where is the AC return relative to the desk? How tall are the partitions between reception and the first display kitchen? And is the source a reed? If it is a reed, I say congratulations, it is working perfectly, and the floor needs a different tool. If it is already a Vaayu, the answer is a bracket high on the supply wall and a longer cable, and the owner is often a little disappointed that the fix costs so little. I would rather that than sell a second machine into the same air.

Then the level is set again, from the far kitchen, with the team, at five in the afternoon, and locked - and it almost always ends up below where it was. Keep the Mountain Breeze reed at reception if you like it there; the two are the same register. And the frame around all of it: no claim that fragrance moves dwell time, footfall or sales, and no claim about what it does to anything on display. It is an interiors decision, like lighting or music, alongside ventilation and extraction, never instead of them, and the live kitchen stays unscented. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

If the fragrance is strong at reception, why is it not reaching the display kitchens?
Because it is being released at reception, at counter height, and the air there is not travelling to the display kitchens. The three usual causes are a return grille near the desk taking the scent out of the room, tall partitions between reception and the first kitchen blocking it at that height, and a source that is a reed diffuser, which reaches one desk zone by design. Move the source high onto the supply wall and the floor changes; the dial does not.
Would turning the scent machine up make it reach the whole appliance showroom?
No. Turning up a source that is in the wrong place gives the advisor at the desk a level no one should breathe for nine hours, feeds the return grille more, and still leaves the far displays with nothing because the air path is unchanged. Move the source first: high, on the supply side, away from the return, above the partition line. Then set the level from the far point with the team and lock it with the key-lock. It usually ends up below where it was.
My reed diffuser only scents the reception desk - is it faulty?
No, it is doing exactly what a reed does. Six fibre reeds evaporating into still air reach one seating or desk zone; more reeds add strength in that zone, not reach. In a studio under about 750 sq ft that is the whole plan. For a larger floor keep the Mountain Breeze reed at the desk in the same register and add one SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 for the floor, waterless and wall-mounted high on the supply side.
I already own a SOSA Vaayu at reception - do I need a second one for the far end of the floor?
Almost never. One connected volume of air takes one machine, and a Vaayu rated to 1000m³ covers a connected floor of roughly 1,500-3,000 sq ft when it is placed where the AC carries it. The fix is a wall bracket high on the supply side and a longer cable, not a second unit. A second machine belongs only to a second volume - another floor or a separately air-handled zone. Past about 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan at Rs 25,999 replaces the Vaayu.
Should the reception fragrance carry into the live kitchen and coffee counter as well?
No. Whatever the placement, the live kitchen, hob demo and coffee-tasting counter stay unscented, because the smell of what is being cooked or brewed is the product demonstration. The source is placed so the supply does not carry it into those zones, the Vaayu is switched off on the timer while a demonstration runs, and extraction clears the room afterwards. Fragrance returns only once the air smells of nothing.

Facts verified 7 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W (roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule), freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification - electrical and compliance marks. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or displays; the four 100ml bottles in the box are the supply, and refill availability should be confirmed with SOSA. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB; the SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) is the HVAC machine for 12,000-18,000 sq ft. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is a 500ml water-based ultrasonic diffuser for a single room of roughly 270-320 sq ft.
