Why: it is calibrated to be noticed only when you stop and look for it, which is exactly what you want in a room you are trying to fall asleep in and exactly wrong in a room you are trying to work in.

"I want fresh, but I hate florals and sweetness"

Mountain Breeze₹849Buy Mountain Breeze at ₹849. Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar, 9.4 — the deepest woody in the range. Why: there is no fruit in it, no flower in it and nothing sweet in it, so it is the one bottle here that cannot accidentally read as pretty. It smells of altitude: cool, dry, faintly resinous.

Rooms: study, home office, yoga room, anti-floral bedroom. 130ml ₹1,349 for anything larger.

The four awkward branches — undecided, whole flat, big room, gift

If you have no idea which: buy the Fresh & Grounded duo at ₹1,548. Bright and green in one box settles the only genuinely difficult question in this range — citrus or pine — by nose, in your own rooms, in a week, which no amount of reading will do. If you want one bottle for a whole flat: you do not want that, and I would rather lose the sale than let you find out. Buy two 50mls of two different registers rather than one 130ml of one, because a home that smells identical in every room stops registering as a smell at all within days; the Day & Night duo at ₹1,498 is the boxed version of that advice.

The two traps in this range, said plainly

The first trap is the names. Two of the five reeds are not fresh at all. Garden Bloom at ₹799 is a floral — British rose and night-blooming jasmine — and reads as one from across the room. Fresh Brew at ₹849 is a warm gourmand of Coorg coffee, Kerala vanilla and caramel, and at 9.5 it is the deepest thing we make. The word Fresh in its name refers to coffee, not to fragrance, and it catches people out often enough that I would rather flag it here than read the email afterwards. If you came to this page wanting fresh, neither of those two bottles is your answer.

The second trap is the one nobody warns you about, which is that the smell in your head may not exist here. There is no aquatic, marine or ozonic scent in the SOSA reed line, and no clean-linen or cotton accord either. If what you mean by fresh is sea air, hotel bedsheets or laundry on a line, none of the five is it, and the nearest honest answers are Mountain Breeze for cool open air and Evening Calm for soft clean skin.
