Question two — how much soft furnishing? That decides the dose, not the floor area.
Question three — what does the room already smell of? Incense, cooking, wool, new timber, leather. This one overrules the other two.
The shortcut: the The Ritz-Carlton-inspired Quiet Luxury is the safest default across the widest range of interiors. The Pack of 7 at ₹1,799 settles it properly.
2. Then count the soft furnishings. This sets the dose and nothing else does. Rugs, curtains, upholstery and cushions absorb fragrance and release it slowly; tile, stone, glass and lacquer do not. Two identical rooms can need 2 drops and 6 drops respectively.
3. Then ask what the room already smells of. Agarbatti, cooking, wool and jute, new timber, leather, an old building. This question overrules the other two — there is no point choosing a beautiful cool white tea for a house that burns dhoop every morning.
4. The default, if you will not answer any of them. The Ritz-Carlton-inspired Quiet Luxury — white tea, bergamot and cedar. It has a cool half and a woody half, which makes it the least likely of the seven to be actively wrong anywhere.
5. Buy the tester, not my opinion. A 15ml is ₹299 and the Pack of 7 is ₹1,799 for all seven. Your room and your existing household smell will settle this more honestly than any table I can write.

Three questions, and they are not equally important
The advice you will find elsewhere is some version of warm room, warm scent. It is not wrong, but it is one variable out of three, and it is the least decisive of them. The first real question is about volume. Every interior style encodes a value, and that value tells you how much character a fragrance is allowed to have. Minimalism is a discipline of subtraction, so a heavily decorated scent in it reads as a lapse. Art deco is symmetry pushed until it becomes theatre, so a careful little scent in it reads as an accident. Get the volume right and you have narrowed seven to about three.
The second question is physics rather than taste, and it decides the dose. Porous things take up fragrance and hand it back slowly; hard things do not hold it at all. A boho living room layered with rugs needs two drops and will still smell of it on Thursday. A tiled minimalist flat with no curtains needs five or six and will be empty an hour after the machine stops. Same size, same machine, opposite instructions. The third question is the one almost nobody asks: what does the room already smell of? A house that burns agarbatti and camphor daily has a scent that is not going anywhere, and a cool aquatic beside it reads as disinfectant. A room full of new oak already smells faintly of wood, so more wood adds little. This question can strike a scent off the list that questions one and two both approved, which is why it goes last and matters most.
The three questions, in order
Hotel CollectionFrom ₹299Put your style on a scale. Quiet at one end: minimalism, Japandi, Scandinavian — these want Westin-inspired White Tea Serenity or 1 Hotels-inspired Forest Suite, scents with very little ornament in them. In the middle: modern, contemporary, most apartments — The Ritz-Carlton-inspired Quiet Luxury, which has presence without decoration. Loud at the other end: art deco, dark luxury, a statement drawing room — The St. Regis-inspired Old-World Glamour, or W Hotels-inspired Lobby Bar where the room is a bar or is used after dark. Boho and traditional Indian sit slightly outside the scale, because both are decorative but neither is architectural: Shangri-La-inspired Tea Garden and Four Seasons-inspired Warm Welcome respectively. The full selector
The seven, mapped to the interiors they belong in. The star marks the safest default rather than a universal winner — there is no such thing here.
| Scent | Notes | Character | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
|
The Ritz-Carlton-inspired ★ Quiet Luxury |
White tea · bergamot · cedar | Polished, cool, composed — a cool half and a woody half | Modern luxury, contemporary, modern apartments — and the safest default anywhere |
|
Westin-inspired White Tea Serenity |
White tea · aloe · cedar | Transparent, cool, undecorated | Minimalist and Scandinavian interiors; white, pale and light-filled rooms |
|
1 Hotels-inspired Forest Suite |
Cedarwood · vetiver · green leaves | Dry, green, rooty — reads as material | Japandi, natural-material and earthy interiors; concrete and raw timber |
|
The St. Regis-inspired Old-World Glamour |
Amber · violet · woods | Plush, powdery, openly decorative | Art deco, dark luxury, velvet and brass drawing rooms |
|
Four Seasons-inspired Warm Welcome |
Citrus · floral · sandalwood | Gracious, creamy-warm, sandalwood-based | Traditional Indian homes, beige and warm neutral interiors |
| Not in this family, for reference: Shangri-La-inspired Tea Garden is green-floral and garden-like — the answer for bohemian rooms and plant-filled spaces; W Hotels-inspired Lobby Bar is bold, peppery and after-dark, which suits a bar, a games room or a single statement space rather than a whole scheme. Dose, placement, and a caution worth taking seriously
The dose ladder, which applies whatever scent you land on. Two drops in a heavily layered room — boho, a curtained bedroom, anything with rugs over rugs — run two or three evenings a week, because the textiles keep giving it back. Three to four in a normally furnished room. Five to six in a hard, bare room: tile or stone underfoot, no curtains, minimal fabric. All on a Sukoon (₹1,899) — the machine is the same, only the number changes. Judge on the third day, not the first evening.
Placement is more consistent across styles than dose is. Stand the machine about a metre up on a shelf or console rather than on the floor, roughly a third of the way into the room, with a clear foot of air around it. Keep it out of the direct throw of an air conditioner or fan, which will move the entire output into one corner, and out of doorways and draughts. Do not aim the plume at a mirror or a run of glazing, and do not tuck it behind upholstery, which absorbs most of the output before it reaches the room.
The caution applies to every style in this series: ultrasonic mist is water, and water settles. It can bloom polished or oiled wood, spot marble and stone, mark laminate and lacquer, and leave patchy darkening on cane and rattan. Never aim it at art, leather or fabric. Stand the machine on a tray, coaster or stone slab rather than directly on a wooden or stone surface. In hard-water cities use filtered water — mineral residue produces a fine white dust that is very obvious on black lacquer, glass and brass.
What to buy
Read your own style off the left-hand column, take the scent and the dose, and note the machine. If your home holds more than one style, the Pack of 7 at ₹1,799 is the cheaper starting point.

Versailles
People write to me with the wrong question. They ask which scent is best, and there is no answer to that — there are seven, they are all finished compositions, and the only thing that separates them is which room they are standing in.
So I have started asking three questions back, always in the same order. How loud is your style, because that sets how much character the scent is allowed. How much soft furnishing is in the room, because that sets the dose and has nothing to do with taste. And what does the room already smell of — which is the one people have never considered, and the one that most often removes the scent they had already decided on.
If you take one thing from the whole series, take that third question. It is the difference between a fragrance that sits in a room and one that argues with it. Then buy a 15ml at ₹299, or the Pack of 7 at ₹1,799 if your home is honestly three styles in a trench coat, and let the room vote. A portion of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.
