You scent a workspace to clear the head, not to fill the room — and on a desk, placement is what keeps a scent low and steady enough to forget it is there. The same little diffuser can either sit as a soft background all day or tire your nose within an hour. The difference is a few centimetres and which way it faces.

Quick answer

Arm's length, a little to the side. Not under your nose — that is the fastest way to fatigue and stop noticing it.

Shoulder height on a shelf beats desktop level, where scent drifts past your bowed head.

Away from screens, papers and drafts. Never mist a laptop; never sit a reed in the AC stream.

The short version
Short answer: Set it an arm's length to one side, at shoulder height, angled toward the room and clear of screens, paperwork and moving air.
The pick: a Boond (₹799) angled away for a controllable burst, or a Morning Freshness reed (₹749) for a mist-free, set-and-forget option.
The placement rules
Where exactly on the desk does a diffuser belong?

Five rules, whether you use a reed or a Boond:

1. An arm's length away. Close enough to reach you, far enough that it never becomes a concentrated hit. Right beside the keyboard is too near — you will stop noticing it and be tempted to over-scent.

2. A little to the side. Off to one shoulder, not dead centre in front of your face. Ambient, not aimed.

3. Shoulder height, ideally. A shelf beside or above the desk lifts the scent to where you breathe. At desktop level, with your head bent over work, much of it drifts past.

4. Away from screens and papers. Never point an ultrasonic mist at a laptop or monitor — fine water settling on electronics is asking for trouble. Keep reeds off loose paperwork too; the oil can mark it.

5. Out of the draught. Not in front of the AC vent, under the fan, or on a breezy windowsill. Moving air burns through fragrance and carries it away before it can settle into the room.

If you want a controllable burst, set the Boond at the far desk corner facing the room, never the screen. Runs the Hotel Collection (₹299) and adds mild humidity, so short runs suit a desk best.

Mist-free and safe near electronics. Stand it on a shelf a little above and to the side of the desk, out of the draught. Passive, no power, no humidity — the simplest all-day desk option.
People blame a desk scent for being too strong or too faint. Usually it is neither — it is just in the wrong spot, aimed the wrong way.

Where should I place a diffuser on my desk?
Roughly an arm's length away and a little to one side — on a shelf or the far edge of the desk, not right under your nose. That gives an even, low presence you can forget while working, instead of a concentrated hit that tires the nose within an hour.
Is it safe to keep an ultrasonic diffuser near my laptop?
Keep it a little away and never point the mist at the screen or keyboard. Ultrasonic diffusers like the Boond emit a fine water mist, and you do not want that settling on electronics or paperwork. Set it at the far corner angled toward the room, or choose a passive reed, which emits no mist at all.
How high should a desk diffuser sit?
Around shoulder height is ideal — a shelf beside or above the desk. Scent has to reach the nose to register, and at desktop level with your head down over work it often drifts past you. A slightly raised position gives a gentle, even scent without you leaning into it.
Why does my desk reed fade so quickly?
It is probably sitting in moving air — beside an open window, under a ceiling fan, or in front of an AC vent. Drafts evaporate the fragrance far faster and carry it away. Move the reed to a stiller spot on the desk and it will last its full six to eight weeks and scent more steadily.
Should the diffuser point at me or away?
Slightly away and across, not straight at your face. You want the scent to reach you as a soft ambient layer, not a direct stream. Aiming it at yourself is the quickest route to nose-fatigue, where you stop noticing the scent and are tempted to add more.
Get the spot right
Arm's length, shoulder height, angled away — a desk scent you forget is working.
Start with a mist-free reed on the shelf, or a Boond angled toward the room for a burst on demand. Keep it low; keep it out of the draught.
