Founder Diaries · Corporate Diwali Gifting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 8 min read Updated August 2026
There is no benchmark worth quoting here, and anybody who hands you an industry average has invented it or is selling you something. A per-head Diwali budget is not a market rate to be discovered; it is a number you derive from three facts about your own company. This page sets out those three facts, shows you how to work from them to a figure you can defend in a meeting, and then shows exactly what each band buys so the number stops being abstract.
Quick answers — read this first
What is a good per-employee budget for Diwali gifting? There is no honest benchmark, because the right number is derived rather than looked up. It follows three things specific to your company. Headcount, because multiplication changes what a rupee costs: Rs 100 more a head is Rs 5,000 at 50 people and Rs 25,000 at 250. Seniority spread, because a flat organisation can hold one number for everybody while a steeply tiered one needs two or three. And what the gift is competing with internally: if your people also receive a bonus and a festival allowance, the gift carries less of the recognition load and a smaller number is entirely appropriate. Once derived, the practical bands are Rs 500, Rs 750, Rs 1,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000 a head, and each buys something specific.

How do you decide how much to spend per employee on Diwali gifts? Work in this order. First, list what else your people receive around Diwali - bonus, allowance, sweets, an offsite - because the gift only has to carry the share of recognition that those do not. Second, decide whether one gift serves the whole company or whether a senior tier is genuinely needed, and remember that tiering is cheaper than it looks when handled as format rather than product. Third, apply the repeatability test: pick a figure you can hold next year at a larger headcount, because a gift that drops sharply tells a story about the company that nobody wanted told. Only then multiply. At Rs 749 a head, 50 people is Rs 37,450 and 100 is Rs 74,900.

What does each per-employee gifting budget actually buy? Under Rs 500 buys one complete object: an alcohol-free attar at Rs 379, an 80g candle at Rs 379, a car perfume at Rs 449 to Rs 489. Under Rs 750 buys a set - a two-jar candle pair or a votive set of four at Rs 664 - or, at the ceiling, the Morning Freshness reed diffuser at Rs 749. Under Rs 1,000 buys any of the five reed diffusers at Rs 749 to Rs 849, the Boond diffuser at Rs 899 or a woodenwick candle at Rs 949. Under Rs 1,500 buys the Attar Trio at Rs 1,055 or a 130ml reed from Rs 1,249. Under Rs 2,000 buys a reed duo set at Rs 1,548 or Rs 1,598, or the Sukoon diffuser at Rs 1,899.
The short answer
Short answer: No benchmark is worth quoting; derive the number instead. It follows three things: headcount (Rs 100 more a head is Rs 5,000 at 50 people and Rs 25,000 at 250), the seniority spread (one number or two), and what the gift competes with internally (a bonus reduces the load the gift has to carry). Then check it repeats next year. What the bands buy: Rs 500 one complete object from Rs 379; Rs 750 a set at Rs 664 or the Rs 749 reed; Rs 1,000 any of the five reeds Rs 749-849; Rs 1,500 the Attar Trio Rs 1,055 or a 130ml reed Rs 1,249; Rs 2,000 a duo set Rs 1,548-1,598 or the Sukoon Rs 1,899. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
The pick: reed diffusers (from ₹749), Hotel Collection fragrance (from ₹299), attars (from ₹379) and candles (from ₹379) for headcount tiers; the Safar (₹3,999) for leadership and the Vaayu (₹11,999) for VIP clients and partners.

A corporate Diwali list is never one gift: it is a full team on a modest per-head budget, a layer of managers and clients who expect something considered, and a short leadership and partner list where the gift has to carry real weight. The SOSA ladder maps cleanly onto those tiers - space and skin fragrance from ₹299 to ₹1,598 for headcount, the Safar at ₹3,999 for leadership, the Vaayu at ₹11,999 for the client or partner whose business you want to scent. One brand, one aesthetic, five defensible price points.
Straight answer
How do you work out a good per-employee Diwali gifting budget without a benchmark to copy?
Three inputs, one test, then the bands. 1. Headcount decides what a rupee costs. At 50 people, ₹100 more a head is ₹5,000 and barely worth a discussion; at 250 it is ₹25,000 and becomes one. Small lists should choose the object on merit and check the total afterwards; large lists must fix the per-head number first and shop inside it. 2. The seniority spread decides how many numbers you need. A flat company holds one figure for everybody. A steeply tiered one needs two, handled as format inside one register rather than as two unrelated products - the same reed at ₹749 and at ₹1,249, not a candle for one group and a diffuser for another. 3. What the gift competes with decides the load it carries. If your people also get a bonus, a festival allowance and sweets, the gift is a gesture rather than the recognition, and a smaller number is correct rather than mean. If the gift is the only thing, it has to stand alone. The test: can you repeat this figure next year at a larger headcount? A gift that jumps and then falls says more about the company than a modest one held steady. Then the bands. Under ₹500: one complete object - an attar at ₹379, an 80g candle at ₹379, a car perfume from ₹449. Under ₹750: a set at ₹664, or Morning Freshness at ₹749. Under ₹1,000: any of the five reed diffusers, ₹749 to ₹849. Under ₹1,500: the Attar Trio at ₹1,055 or a 130ml reed from ₹1,249. Under ₹2,000: a duo set at ₹1,548 or ₹1,598, or the Sukoon at ₹1,899. Corporate and bulk orders are taken and invoiced to the business, and custom labelling with your company logo on the product is available; send headcount, per-head budget and in-hand date to the SOSA team on WhatsApp +91 96192 18531. Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
One line: derive the number from headcount, seniority spread and what the gift competes with internally - then check it repeats next year. ₹749 a head is ₹37,450 for 50 and ₹74,900 for 100. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

How to derive your own number

The three inputs that produce a defensible per-head figure, the test that keeps it honest, and what each band buys once the number is set.

Why this works
Deriving a per-head number you can defend
1Headcount: Rs 100 more a head is Rs 5,000 at 50 people, Rs 25,000 at 2502Seniority: one number, or two handled as format inside one register3Competition: a bonus and an allowance reduce the load the gift carries4The test: can you hold this figure next year at a bigger headcount?
The headcount workhorses: reed diffusers from ₹749, attars from ₹379, candles from ₹379 and the Hotel Collection from ₹299. Leadership and VIP sit above at ₹3,999 and ₹11,999.
1
Input one
Headcount changes what the same rupee costs
The per-head figure is the only number in gifting that behaves differently depending on how many people you have, and buyers who ignore that end up in the wrong conversation. Add ₹100 to the per-head figure and it costs ₹1,000 at ten people, ₹5,000 at fifty, ₹10,000 at a hundred and ₹25,000 at 250. At the small end that is not a budget decision at all, which is why a ten-person or twenty-person company should pick the object it genuinely rates and check the total afterwards - the whole spread between the cheapest sensible tier and a premium one is usually smaller than one team dinner. At the large end the same ₹100 is a line item somebody will question, which is why a 250-person or 500-person list has to fix the per-head number first and then shop strictly inside it. The practical consequence is that the same company can be right to spend ₹1,249 a head at 20 people and ₹749 a head at 250, and neither is meanness. Real totals: at ₹749, 50 people is ₹37,450, 100 is ₹74,900 and 250 is ₹1,87,250; at ₹379 those become ₹18,950, ₹37,900 and ₹94,750.
Tip: the same per-head figure is a rounding error at twenty people and a budget line at 250 - decide which conversation you are in before you pick a number.
2
Input two
The seniority spread decides how many numbers you need
A flat company with one broad band of roles can hold a single figure for everybody, and should, because evenness is most of what makes a corporate gift read as a decision rather than an assortment. A steeply tiered company - a wide operational base and a small leadership group with very different compensation - usually cannot, because a number that feels generous at one end feels token at the other. The mistake is to solve that with two different products, which turns a budget decision into a published ranking that everybody reads the same afternoon. The correct solution is format inside one register: the same reed diffuser at ₹749 for the wider list and the 130ml format of the same fragrance at ₹1,249 for the senior one. Everyone received the same gift; some received more of it. That structure costs far less than it looks, because the senior list is short by definition. For a hundred people with a senior ten, 90 x ₹749 = ₹67,410 plus 10 x ₹1,249 = ₹12,490 gives ₹79,900 - only ₹5,000 more than putting everybody on ₹749.
3
Input three
What the gift is competing with inside your own company
This is the input buyers most often skip and the one that changes the answer most. A Diwali gift never lands in a vacuum; it lands next to everything else your company does around the same six weeks. If your people receive a Diwali bonus, a festival allowance, sweets from the floor budget and a year-end offsite, the gift is carrying a small share of the recognition and a modest, well-chosen object is exactly right - a ₹749 reed diffuser that scents a hallway for weeks does its job without pretending to be compensation. If the gift is the only gesture the company makes all year, it has to stand alone, and the bands from ₹1,000 upward start to make sense. The second comparison is external but internal in effect: what your people know your clients received. A visible gap between a lavish client gift and a token employee one is read instantly and remembered longer than either gift. The third is last year's gift, which sets the expectation whether you like it or not. Work these three out before you pick a figure, and see how to make ₹1,000 a head feel premium for what to do once the number is fixed.
Tip: a gift sitting next to a bonus has a different job from a gift standing alone - price it for the job, not for the impression.
The SOSA principle
A per-head budget is derived, not looked up. Headcount, seniority spread and what the gift competes with internally produce the number - and then the repeatability test keeps it honest.
Once the figure is set: ₹500 buys one complete object, ₹750 a set or the entry reed, ₹1,000 any reed register, ₹1,500 a bigger format, ₹2,000 a machine or a duo.

Honest notes for corporate gifting: fragrance is personal, so the larger the headcount the safer you should play it - unisex-friendly registers (citrus, sandalwood, soft florals, clean woods) and space fragrance (candles, reeds, diffusers) flatter almost everyone, while a strong or polarising skin scent is a bet you are making on behalf of hundreds of people who did not choose it. Space fragrance also sidesteps the sensitivity question: a reed diffuser sits in a room and can be moved, a perfume sits on the person. Per-head budgets on this page are worked out from published single-unit prices, so treat them as a planning baseline rather than a quotation. One brand across all tiers is what makes a gifting programme look deliberate: the same aesthetic at ₹379 and at ₹3,999 reads as considered, five unrelated vendors read as scrambling. A note from Sonal

Every October I hear the same sentence from HR and admin teams: we do not want to be the company whose Diwali gift gets regifted. And they are right to worry. The dry-fruit box, the branded desk set, the assorted hamper - most of it moves house within a fortnight, and the company that paid for it never finds out. The gift was not bad. It was just not something anyone wanted in their own home.

A fragrance behaves differently, because it stops being an object and becomes a habit. The attar goes on the wrist before the morning shift. The candle gets lit when guests come. The reed diffuser sits on the console table and quietly scents the entrance hall for weeks, and every person who walks in asks about it. That is the difference between a gift that is received and a gift that is kept - and kept gifts are the only ones that keep saying your company's name.

The other thing corporate lists need is a ladder, not a single product. Your full team, your managers, your clients and your two or three most important partners are not the same conversation, but they should look like the same brand. That is what the SOSA range is built to do - one aesthetic from the ₹379 attar to the ₹11,999 Vaayu. If you are planning your list, message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with three things: headcount, budget per person, and the date you need it in hand. That is enough for us to map your tiers with you. We take corporate and bulk orders and invoice businesses properly, and we can label the product with your company logo.

Everything is alcohol-free, cruelty-free, vegan and made in India - and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your team gets a gift they keep; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a standard per-employee Diwali gifting budget in India?
No, and it is worth being direct about why. Gifting budgets are not published, not audited and not comparable across companies with different headcounts, sectors, compensation structures and festival practices, so any figure presented as a standard is either invented or drawn from a sample too narrow to mean anything. What does exist is a set of practical bands defined by what objects actually cost: Rs 500, Rs 750, Rs 1,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000 a head, each of which buys something specific and different. Choose a band by deriving your own number from headcount, seniority spread and what else your people receive, then check the arithmetic: at Rs 749 a head, 50 people is Rs 37,450, 100 is Rs 74,900 and 250 is Rs 1,87,250.
Should the per-head budget be the same for everyone in the company?
One number is the better default, and two numbers is defensible if the second is expressed as format rather than as a different product. The reason evenness matters is that everybody compares within hours, and two visibly different objects read as a ranking regardless of the intent behind them. Keeping one register and changing only the size preserves the message: the same reed fragrance at Rs 749 for the wider team and at Rs 1,249 in the 130ml format for a senior list means everyone received the same gift and some received more of it. It is also cheaper than most buyers expect. For 100 people with a senior 10, that build is 90 x Rs 749 = Rs 67,410 plus 10 x Rs 1,249 = Rs 12,490, or Rs 79,900 against Rs 74,900 for a flat Rs 749.
How does a Diwali bonus change what the gift should cost?
It reduces the load the gift has to carry, and that is a legitimate reason to spend less rather than a rationalisation for meanness. A gift that sits next to a bonus is a gesture: its job is to be a good object that lands in the recipient's home and reminds them of the company for a few weeks, which a Rs 749 reed diffuser does completely. A gift standing alone as the company's only recognition of the year has to do more work, and the Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000 bands start to make sense. The failure mode is spending as though the gift were compensation when it is not - an expensive object handed to somebody who also received a bonus is rarely remembered as generous, it is simply absorbed. Match the number to the job.
What per-head budget should a company with a very large headcount use?
The one it can apply evenly to everybody without exception, because at large numbers consistency is worth more than amount. The arithmetic makes that concrete: at 250 people, moving from Rs 749 to Rs 849 costs Rs 25,000 more, and moving from Rs 749 to Rs 1,249 costs Rs 1,25,000 more - Rs 1,87,250 against Rs 3,12,250 - for a gift that is recognisably the same object in a bigger bottle. Almost always the better use of that difference is a genuinely different tier for a short senior or client list rather than a marginal upgrade for everybody. Large lists also have a second constraint: the register has to be safe across hundreds of unseen households, which pushes you toward unisex, flame-free, plug-free space fragrance rather than anything personal.
How do we sanity-check the number before we take it to finance?
Three checks. Multiply it out against your actual headcount and write the total down, because a per-head figure that sounds modest can produce a total that does not - 250 people at Rs 1,249 is Rs 3,12,250. Ask whether you could hold the same figure next year at a headcount 20 per cent larger, since a gift that visibly drops is worse than one that was never generous. And ask what the gift is competing with internally, so you can answer the obvious question about why this number rather than a smaller one. Bring published single-unit prices with you rather than a quotation, so the total is yours and defensible line by line. Then send headcount, per-head budget, delivery points and in-hand date to +91 96192 18531 to settle the specifics.
