Stand at the entrance of a refrigerator floor and count the doors. Forty, sixty, a hundred - white, steel, glass, in rows, under flat light. Whatever you put in the air, the eye has already decided this is a warehouse, and the mistake most owners make is trying to argue with the eye using the nose. More fragrance makes a scented warehouse. Order and one dry register make a store.
Quick answers — read this first
What fragrance works for a premium refrigerator and home-appliance store? One dry register held low - cedar, sage, a little tea, a clean mineral note; in the SOSA range Mountain Breeze - after the floor has been put in order. Rows of white steel under flat light read as a warehouse to the eye before the nose is consulted, and fragrance cannot overrule that. Aisles that make sense, warmer light, cardboard out of sight and the tops of the appliances cleaned come first. Then a trace of cedar, which reads as a home against white steel the way lemon does not.
Why not simply use more fragrance on a big appliance floor? Because more fragrance on a floor of white steel is a scented warehouse, and a scented warehouse is worse than a plain one. Steel, glass and stone reflect fragrance rather than absorbing it, so a level that reads as strong is reached sooner than on a fabric-heavy floor; and a strong, sweet or floral scent over hard white surfaces reads as a cleaning product. The level is set for the advisor who stands there all day, and if the team says it is too much, it is too much.
What does the honest installation look like? From about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 - waterless, so it adds no moisture and leaves no residue, with a timer and a key-lock - placed on the wall away from the open-door refrigerator display where cold air spills and compressors run. Under about 750 sq ft, one Mountain Breeze reed at Rs 849 at the desk. Past about 3,000 sq ft, one SOSA Angaan at Rs 25,999. An interiors decision like lighting or music - SOSA makes no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time or sales, and no claim about what it does to any appliance.
The short answer
Short answer: order first - aisles, warmer light, cardboard out of sight, tops cleaned - and then one dry register held low: cedar, sage, tea, a clean mineral note. More fragrance on a floor of white steel makes a scented warehouse; it never makes a store.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for a connected floor of roughly 1,500-3,000 sq ft, on the wall away from the open-door cold display; one Mountain Breeze reed (₹849) at the desk for a studio; one SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) past about 3,000 sq ft.
Next step: send a floor plan with the open-door display, the back store and the AC returns marked and we will say honestly which machine, if any, and where - ask for a showroom scenting plan.
What fragrance works for a premium refrigerator and home-appliance store?
One dry register, held low, added last - and I want to spend most of this answer on why "more" is the wrong direction, because it is the direction almost every refrigerator floor tries first. Here is the problem in one sentence: rows of white steel under flat light read as a warehouse to the eye before the nose has been consulted, and no fragrance overrules the eye. Sixty refrigerator doors in ranks, washing machines lined up by drum size, a wall of microwaves - the visual language is stock, not home, and the owner who notices this usually reaches for the strongest, most expensive-smelling thing a supplier will sell them to argue the point. It does not work, and it makes things worse in a specific way. Steel, glass, enamel and stone reflect fragrance instead of absorbing it, so a floor like this reaches "strong" at a setting that would be faint in a furniture showroom; and a strong, sweet or floral fragrance over hard white surfaces reads as one thing to everyone who walks in: a cleaning product. A scented warehouse. So the order is the fix, and fragrance is the last layer of it. Aisles that make sense, so the eye reads a route rather than a grid. Light a step warmer than the flat white most appliance floors ship with. Cardboard and shipping films behind a door that closes. The tops of every appliance and the grilles of every AC return cleaned on a rota, because the dusty-after-cleaning smell on a big appliance floor is almost always dust on top of white goods that nobody can see. How to make an electronics showroom feel less like a warehouse puts those layers in sequence. Then, and only then, the register - and it is the dry one: cedar, sage, a little tea, a clean mineral note, Mountain Breeze in the SOSA range, because against white steel cedar reads as a home in a way that lemon does not; a citrus over white enamel is a floor cleaner to most Indian noses, and the laundry display has the same trap with detergent. Morning Freshness only if the floor is already bright, already ordered, and already reads as a store. Now the two things this floor does that others do not. The refrigerator display itself: open doors on the demo models, compressors running, cold air spilling out along the floor - all of it moves air, and the cold wall will not hold a fragrance whatever you do. Place the source on the far wall, high, where the AC supply crosses the sales floor away from that display, and accept that the aisle in front of the open doors smells of nothing. The built-in refrigerator display covers the placement in full. And the merchandise: SOSA makes no claim about what fragrance does to any refrigerator, washing machine or finish; the only product fact is that the SOSA Vaayu is waterless, adds no moisture and leaves no residue. The machine: one Vaayu at ₹11,999 from about 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, with a timer for trading hours, adjustable intensity set low and a key-lock so nobody drifts it upward on a slow afternoon; under about 750 sq ft a Mountain Breeze reed at the desk; past about 3,000 sq ft one SOSA Angaan at ₹25,999, not two Vaayus in one air. And the sentence every page carries: fragrance is an interiors decision like lighting or music. SOSA makes no claim that it changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales, no claim about what it does to any appliance or finish, and it is never a substitute for ventilation, cleaning or extraction. Any demo or tasting zone stays unscented. Ask for a showroom scenting plan and mark the open-door display on the drawing.
Order first - aisles, warmer light, cardboard behind a door, tops cleaned - then one dry register held low: cedar, sage, tea, mineral (Mountain Breeze). More scent on white steel is a scented warehouse. Vaayu (Rs 11,999) from about 1,500 sq ft, placed away from the cold wall; a reed below; Angaan past 3,000.
Once the floor is in order, one SOSA Vaayu - waterless, 1000m³, timer and key-lock - at ₹11,999 carries one dry register across 1,500-3,000 sq ft of connected floor, placed away from the open-door display.
Two honest answers by connected floor area, and both come after the floor has been put in order. The images link to the product pages so every figure can be checked.
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³ - about 2,000-3,000 sq ft - on one unit, Rs 11,999. No water, so no added humidity and no residue on steel, enamel or glass; 1h/4h/8h/24h timer so it runs trading hours only; adjustable intensity set low for a reflective floor; key-lock so the level you agree with the team stays agreed; under 38dB; wall or HVAC mount so the source sits on the far wall from the open-door display rather than at the nearest socket.
Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar - the register that reads as a home against white steel, where lemon reads as a cleaner. Alcohol-free, six fibre reeds, flip weekly. 50ml Rs 849 lasts 6-8 weeks at a desk; 130ml Rs 1,349 lasts 14-18 weeks. Reaches one desk zone, which is right for a small studio.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft) on a single unit, Rs 11,999, adjustable intensity, 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, key-lock. Wall or HVAC mount so the source sits away from the cold wall and the compressors. CE, RoHS, SGS certified. Made in India.
The five things that make white steel read as a warehouse
Five cards. Four of them cost nothing from SOSA and come first. The fifth is the fragrance, and it is last because on this floor it cannot do the other four's work.
1
The grid
Rows read as stock - give the eye a route instead
A refrigerator floor is usually laid out the way it was delivered: by category, by size, in ranks, because that is how stock is counted. The eye reads that layout as a warehouse instantly and permanently, and nothing in the air changes it. The best premium appliance stores break the grid: a kitchen island with a refrigerator built into it, a laundry room set with a washer and dryer stacked under a counter, an aisle that turns. Give the visitor a route and a few rooms, and the same sixty doors become a home with a lot of storage. This is the biggest single move on the floor, it is a layout decision, and it costs a weekend. Fragrance comes after it, because a trace of cedar in a room reads as a home, and the same trace in a grid reads as a scented warehouse. Less like a warehouse puts this layer first for the same reason.
Test: photograph the floor from the entrance. If the picture could be a stockroom, the layout is the job, not the air.
2
Flat light
White goods under white light - warm it one step
Most appliance floors are lit the way they were handed over: cool, flat, even, so that every white door looks the same white. That is exactly the light a warehouse uses, and it is why a premium floor can look expensive in the brochure and cheap on a Tuesday. One step warmer on the ceiling, and a few directional lights on the displays you want to read as rooms, and the same steel starts to look like a kitchen. Light also changes how a fragrance is read: under cool flat light a fresh citrus register is a cleaning product, and under warmer light a dry cedar register is a home. This is why Mountain Breeze is the default on a white-goods floor and Morning Freshness is only for a floor that is already bright and already reads as a store. The two decisions are made together, and light is made first.
Rule: if the light is cold, the cedar goes in; if the light is warm and the floor is white lacquer, lemon-mint can.
3
Cardboard and dust
The two smells of a big appliance floor, neither fixed by fragrance
A refrigerator store moves large boxes in and out all day, and two smells follow them. Cardboard - dry, papery, faintly sweet - from a back store that shares the sales floor's air through a door that is never closed. And dust, which settles on the tops of white goods at head height and above, where nobody looks and nobody wipes, and on the AC return grilles that pull the whole floor's air through them. Both read as warehouse. Neither is a fragrance job: a door that closes, boxes broken down daily, the tops of every appliance and every grille on a cleaning rota. Why a large appliance store smells dusty even after cleaning is the diagnostic. Fragrance over cardboard is a third smell, and fragrance over warm dust is a worse one. The rule I give owners is that none of this costs anything from SOSA, and all of it comes first.
When the floor is in order, one Mountain Breeze reed at the desk is where a studio starts - cedar, sage, pine, nothing to plug in.
Open doors, running compressors and spilling cold air move the air - place away from it
The refrigerator display is the one part of this floor that moves its own air. Demo models stand with doors open; compressors run; cold air spills out along the floor and pulls warmer air in behind it. That zone will not hold a fragrance, and it is right that it does not - the display is working. Do not compensate by turning up. Place the source on the far wall from the cold display, high, on the wall the AC supply crosses so the register is carried across the sales floor and away from the returns, and accept that the aisle in front of the open doors smells of nothing. A wall or HVAC mount - which the Vaayu allows - is what makes that wall a choice rather than a socket. The built-in refrigerator display covers placement around a cold wall in full. And the merchandise, once, plainly: SOSA makes no claim about what fragrance does to any refrigerator or finish; the only product fact is that the Vaayu is waterless, adds no moisture and leaves no residue.
Rule: the aisle in front of the open doors smells of nothing. That is the display working, not the machine failing.
5
The register
One dry scent, held low - never more
Only now, with the grid broken, the light warmed, the cardboard behind a door and the tops cleaned, does fragrance do what it can do: make an ordered floor read as a home. The register is cedar, sage, a little tea, a clean mineral note - dry, because dry survives being reflected off steel, and cedar-led, because cedar against white reads as a home where citrus reads as a cleaner. The level is a step below most retail, set for the advisor who stands there nine hours: noticed at the entrance, forgotten by the second aisle, un-nameable at the desk. And it is held there. The temptation on a big white floor is always "a bit more" - the key-lock on the Vaayu exists because a bit more, on a floor of steel and glass, is a scented warehouse by Friday. What a premium home-electronics showroom should smell like makes the same case for the electronics side of the floor, and a premium sensory identity for a home-appliance store puts order, light and scent into one written standard.
The Vaayu is waterless, holds its level under a key-lock, runs trading hours on a timer, and mounts on the far wall from the cold display.
A refrigerator floor stops reading as a warehouse through order - a route, warmer light, cardboard behind a door, tops cleaned - and then one dry register held low; more fragrance only makes a scented warehouse.
Cedar, not citrus, against white steel. Placed away from the cold wall. Set for the advisor. Locked. The fragrance is the last and thinnest layer.
After the floor is in order, one machine, one low level: SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, waterless, timer and key-lock, up to 1000m³ of connected sales floor.
The same answer laid over a typical refrigerator and home-appliance store. Mark the open-door display, the back store door and the AC returns on the plan and the placement mostly decides itself.
The SOSA plan
A refrigerator and home-appliance store, aisle by aisle
The zone
What it should smell like
Entrance, reception desk, the first ordered display
Dry and quiet, noticed on arrival and forgotten by the second aisle. The source lives on the wall here, high, facing the floor - one Vaayu from about 1,500 sq ft. View →
Kitchen and laundry room sets
A trace of the same register, carried by the AC. Nothing placed inside a set - a source in a small built room over-scents it. This is where cedar reads most like a home. View →
The open-door refrigerator display and its aisle
Nothing, by physics: open doors, running compressors and spilling cold air move the fragrance out of the zone. Do not compensate. The display is working.
Back store and unboxing area
Nothing, and a door that closes. Cardboard and shipping film stay behind it; boxes broken down daily. If the plant allows, a separate return for this room.
Second floor or a separately air-handled wing
Its own machine, same register, same level test - a second Vaayu for a second volume, or one Angaan on a shared plant past about 3,000 sq ft. View →
You cannot argue with the eye using the nose. Sixty white doors in a grid are a warehouse whatever is in the air, and more fragrance only makes a scented one.

A note from Sonal
The refrigerator floor is where I most often have to say the thing owners least want to hear: the air is not your problem. They have walked me from the entrance past sixty white doors in ranks under flat light and asked what fragrance would make it feel premium, and the honest answer is that nothing in the air will, because the eye decided at the door. I have watched a floor like that get a kitchen island, a laundry set under a counter, one aisle that turned, and a warmer ceiling, and become a different store in a weekend without a drop of fragrance. The fragrance came a month later, and it was small.
When it does come, it is cedar. This is the one floor where I will argue against lemon and mint even for a white studio, because citrus over white enamel under cool light is a floor cleaner to almost everyone in this country, and the laundry display next door makes it worse. Cedar, sage, a little tea, held low - the advisor who stands there all day is the judge - and placed on the far wall from the open-door display, because that cold wall will never hold a scent and should not. The Vaayu mounts on the wall I choose, runs trading hours, and locks, and on a floor of steel and glass the lock is the feature I would pay for first, because a bit more is a scented warehouse by Friday.
The machine is the least of it. A Mountain Breeze reed at the desk for a studio; one Vaayu at ₹11,999 from about 1,500 sq ft; one Angaan past 3,000. And through all of it: no claim that fragrance moves footfall, dwell time or sales, and no claim about what it does to any refrigerator, washer or finish on display. It is an interiors decision, like lighting or music, and on this floor it is the last one you make. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a refrigerator floor smell like a warehouse even with a fragrance running?
Because the eye decided before the nose did. Rows of white steel in a grid under flat light read as stock, and no fragrance overrules that; a fragrance over it reads as a scented warehouse, which is worse. The fix is order - a route through the floor instead of a grid, a couple of room sets, light one step warmer, cardboard behind a door, the tops of the appliances cleaned - and only then one dry register, held low.
Should a white-goods store use a fresh citrus fragrance to look clean?
Usually not. Citrus over white enamel and steel, under cool flat light, reads as a floor cleaner to most people, and on a floor that also displays washing machines the detergent association is stronger still. Cedar, sage, a little tea and a clean mineral note - Mountain Breeze in the SOSA range - read as a well-kept home against white. Morning Freshness, the lemon and mint, belongs only on a floor that is already bright, ordered and white-lacquered.
Where does the scent machine go on a floor with an open-door fridge display?
On the far wall from it, high, on the wall the AC supply crosses so the register is carried across the sales floor and away from the returns. Open doors, running compressors and spilling cold air move the air around the display, and that zone will not hold a fragrance whatever you do - which is correct, because the display is working. Do not turn the machine up to compensate; accept that the aisle in front of the open doors smells of nothing.
How much fragrance is too much on a floor of steel, enamel and glass?
Less than you think. Hard white surfaces reflect a fragrance rather than absorbing it, so a floor like this reaches a strong reading at a setting that would be faint in a furniture showroom. Set it for the advisor who stands there nine hours: noticed at the entrance, forgotten by the second aisle, un-nameable at the desk. If the team says it is too much, it is too much. Lock the setting - on a big white floor the dial only ever drifts upward.
Does SOSA make any claim about what fragrance does to refrigerators or washing machines?
No, in either direction. SOSA makes no claim about what ambient fragrance does to any refrigerator, washing machine, enamel, steel or finish on display. The only product fact is that the Vaayu is waterless, adds no moisture to the room and leaves no residue. Whether room conditions matter to a particular appliance is a question for the brand that makes it. SOSA also makes no claim that fragrance changes footfall, dwell time, conversion or sales.

Facts verified 7 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W (roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule), freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification - electrical and compliance marks. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or displays; the four 100ml bottles in the box are the supply, and refill availability should be confirmed with SOSA. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB; the SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) is the HVAC machine for 12,000-18,000 sq ft.
