We will not quote a spa from a floor area. This page explains what we ask for instead.
Quick answers — read this first
Should a spa choose its scenting system by square footage or by zones? By zones. A machine distributes through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door, so the number of enclosures decides the specification and floor area does not.

What replaces square footage? Four numbers: enclosure count, how long guests stay in each and in what posture, which spaces are wet or wet-adjacent, and the height of the largest open space.

Will you quote from a floor area? No. A floor area cannot tell us how many sources a building needs, so we quote against a zone list rather than a number of square feet.
The short answer
Short answer: By zones, not area. Enclosure count, dwell and posture, wet-adjacency, and height - square footage comes fifth.
The pick: the SOSA Safar (₹3,999) as the flagship delivery gift; volume gifts from ₹299; reed diffusers from ₹749; the Vaayu (₹11,999) for your own premises.
Planning volumes? WhatsApp +91 96192 18531 - tell us the customer moment, per-unit band and quantity and we will quote and build the programme.
Customer gifting that compounds - the SOSA method at a glanceStep 1 - gift the moment: delivery day, possession, checkout, milestone purchaseStep 2 - set the per-unit band: ₹299 to ₹3,999 by customer valueStep 3 - brand the gesture: your card, your story, our fragranceStep 4 - pilot small, then scale to 50, 100, 500 unitsWhatsApp the bulk desk for volume pricing
A customer gift works when it survives the drive home - sweets vanish in a day and keychains join a drawer, but a fragrance is used daily in the customer's own car or living room, replaying your brand at every use. The method: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, brand the gesture with your card, pilot and scale. This guide walks the exact play, with real SOSA options at every band.
Straight answer
Total square footage vs individual treatment zones: how should a spa choose its scenting system?
By zones, and it is not a close call. Square footage answers a question nobody in a spa is asking. It describes how much floor you have, when what decides a scenting system is how many separate volumes of air you have - and in a spa those two numbers are barely related, because a machine distributes through connected moving air and cannot cross a shut door. Four numbers replace it. One: how many enclosures do you have behind doors that genuinely close? That is your source count. Two: how long does a guest stay in each, and in what posture? An hour lying nose-down in static air is the hardest condition in commercial scenting, and it rules out whole families of register rather than single choices. Three: which spaces are wet or wet-adjacent? Wet gets nothing permanently; wet-adjacent runs lowest all year. Four: how tall is your largest open space? Height is the part nobody breathes, and a double-height room takes far more than its floor area suggests. Square footage comes fifth, and mostly as a sanity check. Which is why we will not quote a spa from a floor area - we quote against a zone list. Hotel Collection from ₹299, SOSA Megh ₹3,499, SOSA Boond ₹799. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
Quick answer: zones. Four numbers replace square footage, and floor area comes fifth at best.

Square footage answers a question nobody in a spa is asking

Square footage is the number everybody quotes and the least useful one in a spa, and it is worth being precise about why rather than simply asserting it. Floor area tells you how much floor you have. What decides a scenting system is how many separate volumes of air you have, and in most commercial buildings those two numbers track each other closely enough that using one as a proxy for the other works. A showroom of 3,000 square feet is broadly one volume. An office floor of 3,000 square feet is broadly one volume with some partitions. A spa of 3,000 square feet is ten to fourteen volumes, because a spa is the building type with more doors per square foot than almost any other and because those doors are shut precisely when the guest is inside. So the proxy breaks, and it breaks in the direction that costs money: a specification built on area under-counts sources, and the result is a strong reception with rooms that smell of nothing. Here are the four numbers we would ask for instead, in the order they matter. Number one is the enclosure count: how many separate spaces are behind doors that genuinely close in normal operation? Walk the plan with a pen and mark them, ignoring doors that are propped open all day, because those are openings and the spaces on either side are one volume. That count is your source count, near enough, and it is the single most predictive number in the whole exercise. It also produces the most useful conversation, because owners frequently discover that two spaces they thought of as one are separate, and that a door they never close has been merging two zones for years. Number two is dwell and posture: how long does a guest stay in each space, and what are they doing there? This is the number that is specific to spas and it does more than set levels - it rules out whole families of register. A guest in a shop stays eleven minutes upright and moving. A guest in your treatment room stays an hour lying face down in static air with their nose a few inches from a cradle cover. That is the hardest condition in commercial scenting, and it means sweet, rich and gourmand directions are wrong on principle rather than as a matter of taste, because they read generously in the first minutes and become wearing across an hour. It also means treatment rooms must be set lying on the bed rather than judged from the doorway, since a level that is barely perceptible standing up can be considerable face down, and nobody else in your building is in that posture. Number three is wet-adjacency: which of your zones are wet, and which adjoin wet ones? Wet spaces - steam rooms, saunas, shower interiors - get nothing, permanently, because heavily ventilated wet air will not hold a register and equipment does not belong near heat and water. Wet-adjacent spaces - changing areas, the corridor past the wet zone, any treatment room with its own shower - run at the lowest working level all year rather than seasonally, because humid air carries fragrance more slowly and clears it less readily, so the same setting produces a heavier room. A specification that treats a shower-equipped treatment room the same as a dry one produces two different results from one number, and then somebody spends a season wondering why one room gets complaints. Number four is height, which is invisible on a floor plan and expensive to discover afterwards. Height is the part nobody breathes. A double-height reception or a spa built into an atrium contains far more air than its floor area suggests, and attempting to fill the whole volume is costly and pointless because nobody is up there. The honest approach is to serve the occupied lower part well and accept the rest. This is also where a larger unit genuinely earns its place: a Vaayu at Rs 11,999 suits a large open reception or lounge, waterless with no tank at all, coverage up to 1,000 square metres or roughly 10,700 square feet, with Bluetooth app and timer control. Square footage comes fifth, and mostly as a sanity check - useful for confirming that a source count looks reasonable, useless for producing one. That is why we will not quote a spa from a floor area, and we would rather say so plainly than produce a number that looks authoritative and is arrived at by guessing. Send us the zone list - how many rooms, how many are behind doors, which have showers, what your reception is like, whether there is a lounge, whether the corridor is short or a network - and we will quote against that on WhatsApp. Volume pricing depends on the zone count and the layout, not on the square feet. Here is what the specification typically looks like once the four numbers are in. Reception takes a Megh at Rs 3,499 with its 6L tank, a Sukoon at Rs 1,799 if compact, or a Vaayu at Rs 11,999 if it is a large open volume. A lounge or relaxation area is its own zone and takes its own source. Each treatment room takes a Boond at Rs 799 or a reed at Rs 749 to Rs 849, and in a small room behind a door a reed is often better rather than cheaper - continuous low output rather than a cycle that reads as arrivals, nothing visible, nothing a member of staff can turn up, and a quarterly refill rather than a tank to manage. Reeds give three to four months from a bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml, and their output rises with warmth and falls with cold. Corridors take nothing or one reed at a very low level, because they are conduits already receiving every room's air at every turnover. Back-of-house, laundry, linen stores and staff areas get nothing. Machines take the water-based Hotel Collection at three to six drops per tank with a rinse between scents, never reed oil, which can damage them. One register throughout, varied only by level, because a guest crosses several thresholds in a visit and a change of register reads as a fault while a change of level reads as the building quietening. Quiet Luxury, with white tea, bergamot and cedar, is the safest general choice. White Tea Serenity, with white tea, aloe and cedar, is the softest we make and suits treatment rooms and wet-adjacent spaces. Forest Suite, with cedarwood, vetiver and green leaves, is dry and structural and suits stone and warm wood. Tea Garden and Warm Welcome are arrival registers, Old-World Glamour belongs in a dark warm reception at a low level, and Lobby Bar suits large circulation. All seven are Rs 299 for 15ml, Rs 999 for 100ml and Rs 1,799 for 300ml. Finally, whatever the numbers say, three rules hold. Everything comes down through humid months and back up when the air dries, written as dates rather than intentions. Every zone, device, register, setting and date goes on one page with one named owner, because everybody who works in a spa adapts to a steady background within about an hour and stops perceiving it, so without a baseline levels only ever ratchet up. And the assessment comes from somebody who does not work in the building, walking in from the street at the busiest hour. Anybody who works in a treatment room should have a physical off switch and never have to justify using it. We make no therapeutic, medical or wellness claims of any kind, and SOSA ambient fragrance is for the air of a room only - never for skin, never in massage oil, and never added to masks, facial preparations or any treatment product. The registers are SOSA's own interpretations and we are independent and not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with any hotel brand. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Why this works
The four numbers that matter
1 How many enclosures behind doors that close 2 How long a guest stays in each, and in what posture 3 Which of them are wet or wet-adjacent 4 And how tall the largest open space is
The flagship delivery gift: the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 - a rechargeable waterless car diffuser with three hotel-inspired scents in the box. Per-unit gifts from ₹299; volume pricing on WhatsApp.
01
Why the proxy breaks
Area tracks volume count in most buildings
A 3,000 sq ft showroom is broadly one volume. A 3,000 sq ft spa is ten to fourteen, because a spa has more doors per square foot than almost any format and they shut when the guest is inside.
Tip: And it breaks in the direction that costs money.
02
Enclosures, then dwell and posture
One gives the count. One rules out families
Mark every door that genuinely closes and you have your source count. Then ask how long a guest stays and how - an hour nose-down in static air is the hardest condition in commercial scenting.
03
Then wet-adjacency, then height
And square footage fifth, as a sanity check
Wet gets nothing permanently, wet-adjacent runs lowest all year. Height is invisible on a plan and expensive afterwards, since a double-height room holds far more air than its floor suggests.
Tip: Which is why we quote against a zone list, not a floor area.
The SOSA principle
We will not quote a spa from a floor area.
Send the zone list instead, and we will quote against that.

Here are the four numbers that replace it

Square footage is the number everybody quotes and the least useful in a spa. Floor area tells you how much floor you have; what decides a scenting system is how many separate volumes of air you have, and in most commercial buildings those track each other closely enough for one to proxy the other. A 3,000 sq ft showroom is broadly one volume; a 3,000 sq ft spa is ten to fourteen, because a spa has more doors per square foot than almost any format and they are shut precisely when the guest is inside. So the proxy breaks, and it breaks in the direction that costs money - an area-based specification under-counts sources and produces a strong reception with rooms that smell of nothing. Four numbers replace it. The enclosure count: walk the plan and mark every door that genuinely closes, ignoring propped ones since those are openings. That is your source count and the most predictive number in the exercise, and it usually reveals two spaces thought of as one, and a door nobody closes that has merged two zones for years. Dwell and posture: a shop guest stays eleven minutes upright and moving, while yours stays an hour lying face down in static air with their nose inches from a cradle - the hardest condition in commercial scenting, which rules out sweet, rich and gourmand directions on principle rather than taste, and which is why rooms are set lying on the bed. Wet-adjacency: wet spaces get nothing permanently since heavily ventilated wet air will not hold a register and equipment does not belong near heat and water, and wet-adjacent spaces run lowest all year, because a specification treating a shower-equipped room like a dry one produces two results from one number. Height: invisible on a plan and expensive afterwards, since a double-height reception holds far more air than its floor area suggests and nobody is up there - serve the occupied lower part and accept the rest, which is where a Vaayu at Rs 11,999 with coverage to 1,000 m² and timer control earns its place. Square footage comes fifth, as a sanity check. Which is why we will not quote a spa from a floor area - send the zone list and we will quote against that on WhatsApp. Then: Megh Rs 3,499 or Sukoon Rs 1,799 in reception, a source in any lounge, Boond Rs 799 or a reed from Rs 749 per room, nothing in corridors, nothing back-of-house. One register varied only by level. From Rs 299 for 15ml. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards.

The SOSA business gifting edit

Whatever your business gifts, the logic is the same: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, keep the register gentle and crowd-safe, and brand the gesture with your card rather than your logo on the product. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so every customer gift quietly gives twice. Here is the full business range by per-unit band.

Honest notes for business gifters: customer taste varies, so volume programmes should run gentle, crowd-tested registers - fresh, clean and lightly floral scents are received well across every profile, and space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) avoid the personal-taste risk of skin perfume entirely. Listed prices are per-unit store prices; volume pricing, pilot batches, branded cards and custom hamper builds are quoted on WhatsApp - and signature-scent development for your brand is a consultation with our perfumer, not an off-the-shelf item, so timelines are discussed case by case. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with any hotel brand. Ultrasonic diffusers use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil - the two are not interchangeable. All personal fragrances are alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant. WhatsApp bulk desk: +91 96192 18531. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.

And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.

Frequently asked questions

Should a spa choose its system by square footage or by zones?
By zones. A machine cannot distribute past a closed door, so the number of enclosures decides the specification while floor area does not.
What are the four numbers that replace square footage?
Enclosure count, how long guests stay and in what posture, which spaces are wet or wet-adjacent, and the height of the largest open space.
Why does posture matter?
Because an hour spent lying face down in static air is the hardest condition in commercial scenting, and it rules out whole families of register rather than single choices.
Why does height matter?
Because a double-height room holds far more air than its floor area suggests, and nobody breathes the top of it. Serve the occupied lower part well.
Will you quote from my floor area?
No. Send a zone list - rooms, doors, showers, reception, lounge, corridor - and we will quote against that. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the customer-gifting advice applies whatever your business finally buys.

Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
