By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles10 min readUpdated September 2026
There is a detail in this one that changes the answer, and it is easy to walk past. The offer was open-ended. Whenever you are in the city, they said, which means this is not a stay that has ended and is now being accounted for - it is an arrangement that is still running. A gift that closes a balance is the wrong shape for something nobody has closed. What suits it better is a household object that gets used, runs out and leaves the arrangement exactly where it was, rather than an object that sits in their spare room as a permanent note about a favour.
The size that suits a standing invitation. A 130ml SOSA reed diffuser, ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 - published at 14 to 18 weeks, with 6 fibre reeds in a refillable glass bottle, no flame and nothing to switch on. The household uses it long after you have gone home, and then it is finished rather than kept.
Quick answers — read this first
What is a good gift for a friend who lets you stay in their guest room? Something the household uses and finishes. A SOSA reed diffuser is ₹749 to ₹849 in 50ml and ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 in 130ml, published to last 6 to 8 weeks and 14 to 18 weeks, with no flame, no socket and nothing to switch on. It is used by whoever lives there and then it is gone.
Should the gift be permanent if the invitation is open-ended? It is worth thinking about the opposite. A permanent object stays in their house indefinitely, which means it also stays in the room as a standing reminder of the arrangement. A consumable is used and finished - the 50ml in 6 to 8 weeks, the 130ml in 14 to 18 weeks - and the open invitation is untouched by it. Which of those you want is your call; SOSA publishes nothing about how either one is taken.
Can they get more of it later? Yes, and that is the part that suits an arrangement rather than a one-off. Reed diffuser refills are ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml, published for all five scents including Evening Calm, and the bottle itself is refillable glass. Whether the household chooses to carry on is theirs to decide.
The short answer
Short answer: An open invitation has not ended, so a gift that settles an account is the wrong shape. A SOSA reed diffuser is used by the household and finishes: Rs 749 to Rs 849 in 50ml at 6 to 8 weeks, Rs 1,249 to Rs 1,349 in 130ml at 14 to 18 weeks, with no flame and nothing to switch on.
The pick: A 130ml reed diffuser, ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 - published at 14 to 18 weeks, so the household is still using it long after you have gone home.
Why: It is used by whoever lives there rather than kept for your sake, and because it runs out it leaves the standing invitation exactly as it was.
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
My friend has offered me their guest room whenever I am in the city, and I want to give something the household can keep enjoying after I leave.
The open-ended part is the useful fact here. Because nothing has ended, nothing needs settling, and a gift sized to settle it would be answering a question nobody asked. What is left is simpler and nicer: something the people who live there will actually use, in the rooms they use it in, after you have gone. A SOSA reed diffuser is ₹749 for Morning Freshness, ₹799 for Garden Bloom and Evening Calm, and ₹849 for Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew in 50ml, and ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 in 130ml. The published life is 6 to 8 weeks for the 50ml and 14 to 18 weeks for the 130ml, with 6 fibre reeds in a refillable glass bottle on a coconut-derived CCT carrier that is phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, made in India. No flame, no socket, no switch and nothing to demonstrate, so the household is not handed a job along with the gift. And if they want to carry on afterwards, refills are ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml in all five scents - their decision to make, not a commitment you have created. Three limits worth stating. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify a smell, and it does not clean the air; it adds a scent. SOSA publishes no coverage or room-size figure, so how it behaves in their flat is not something anybody can state. And nothing here can tell you how the gift will be received. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Nothing has ended, so nothing needs balancing. The question is only what the household will use - and what happens to it once they have.
The size that suits a standing invitation: a 130ml reed diffuser, ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 - published at 14 to 18 weeks, no flame and nothing to switch on.
An open invitation, and what that changes about the gift
Three things that follow from the invitation being open rather than finished.
1
One
An open invitation has no closing balance
Most thank-you shopping is quietly a settlement. You received something, you calculate roughly what it was worth, you buy an object near that figure and the ledger is level again.
That machinery does not fit here, because the arrangement has not ended. Whenever you are in the city is a standing offer, and a settling gift is a slightly odd response to something still open - it answers a question that was not put.
Which takes the pressure off the price, genuinely. You are not buying an equivalent of anything. You are buying something for the house of people who said come back, and the useful test is not what it is worth but whether they will use it and what is left over when they have. A 50ml at ₹749 to ₹849 and a 130ml at ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 both pass that test; they differ in how long they go on for, which is 6 to 8 weeks and 14 to 18 weeks.
Tip: Nothing has closed, so nothing needs balancing. Buy for use, not for equivalence.
2
Two
What a permanent object does in a spare room
Here is the specific difficulty with a kept object in this situation, and it is not about taste.
A framed thing, a vase, a piece of decor: it goes somewhere in their home and it stays. In a house where you have an open invitation, the object becomes a standing article about the arrangement - visible every time you are back, visible to them when you are not. Nobody objects to it. It also never resolves, and it needs permanent space and renewed approval in rooms you have only ever been a guest in.
A reed diffuser does the opposite by construction. It is a refillable glass bottle with 6 fibre reeds, used in whichever room they put it in, and it is finished in 6 to 8 weeks or 14 to 18 weeks. The arrangement is exactly where it was afterwards, which is the thing you actually wanted. And if they carry on with a refill at ₹2,399 for 300ml or ₹3,499 for 500ml, that is a choice they made rather than one you left behind.
3
Three
Sizes, scents, and the things SOSA does not supply
Size, by how long you want it going on for. The 50ml at ₹749 to ₹849 is published at 6 to 8 weeks. The 130ml at ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 is published at 14 to 18 weeks, which is the honest choice when the point is that the household keeps using it well after your train home. A duo set is two bottles of the same size, ₹1,498, ₹1,548 or ₹1,598 in 50ml pairs and ₹2,498, ₹2,548 or ₹2,598 in 130ml pairs, useful when more than one room gets used.
Scent.Morning Freshness at ₹749 is Malabar lemon and mint. Evening Calm at ₹799 is lavender and chamomile. Mountain Breeze at ₹849 is Himalayan pine, sage and cedar. If you have stayed there often enough to have an opinion, use it; if not, the quieter end of the range asks less.
What does not exist. Custom label or logo on product is SOSA's only branding. There is no custom box, no printed sleeve and no insert card. There is no carton, no ribbon and no message card. Bulk orders are welcome, with no rate, no minimum quantity and no price break published - ask on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531.
Tip: Pick the size by how long you want it running, not by what the room cost them.
The property that makes this work as a first-visit gift
A consumable is not an object somebody has to keep
The real fear behind a first-visit gift is not that it will be disliked. It is that it will have to be kept - displayed, dusted, and eventually explained if it disappears. A decorative object carries all of that into a home you have never seen. A reed diffuser does not, because it ends by itself. The published life makes that concrete: 6 to 8 weeks for the 50ml at ₹749 to ₹849, and 14 to 18 weeks for the 130ml at ₹1,249 to ₹1,349. It also asks nothing of anybody on the day - no flame, no socket, no switch, nothing to demonstrate. And if they do like it, the glass bottle is refillable, with refills at ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml in all five scents.
Four steps, and none of them involve costing the guest room
Drop the settlement idea. The invitation is open, so nothing is being closed.
Rule out anything needing a wall, a shelf or permanent space in their flat.
Take the 130ml at Rs 1,249 to Rs 1,349 if you want 14 to 18 weeks of use.
Note that refills exist at Rs 2,399 and Rs 3,499, for them to choose later.
The SOSA principle
A permanent gift in a house where you have a standing invitation quietly becomes an article about the invitation. A consumable is used, finished, and the arrangement is left exactly as it was.
That is the practical argument for something that runs out, rather than anything about taste.
Sizes, refills, and the things SOSA does not supply
Five scents, and here you may genuinely have an opinion, because you have slept in the house. Morning Freshness at ₹749 is Malabar lemon and mint. Garden Bloom at ₹799 is British rose and night-blooming jasmine. Evening Calm at ₹799 is lavender and chamomile. Mountain Breeze at ₹849 is Himalayan pine, sage and cedar. Fresh Brew at ₹849 is Coorg coffee and Kerala vanilla. All five are phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, made in India, on a coconut-derived CCT carrier, with 6 fibre reeds per bottle and a suggested flip roughly once a week, stated anywhere between every three and every seven days across the pages.
The SOSA gift edit
Four thank-yous for a guest room, and what each one leaves behind
The option
Who it suits, and where it fails
A 130ml reed diffuser · ₹1,249 to ₹1,349
Published at 14 to 18 weeks, used by whoever lives there, then finished, with no flame and nothing to switch on. It fails if you specifically wanted them to have a lasting keepsake, which is a different brief from the one in your question.
Something for the wall or the shelf · any price
Lasting, visible and unmistakably deliberate. It fails by needing permanent space and renewed approval in rooms you are a guest in, and by staying in view of an arrangement neither of you has closed.
Restocking their kitchen · any price
Practical, consumed and genuinely useful, which is a real point in its favour. It fails on information: what a household keeps in its cupboards is a set of preferences you may have observed for four days and not four years.
Leaving cash in the guest room · any amount
Flexible and requires no taste at all. It fails on the exact thing the open invitation removed, because it prices a standing arrangement that nobody has put a price on - and nothing here can tell you how that would be taken.
When one bottle is not quite the right size of gesture
The three duo sets - and they are the only three
Several of these situations want something a little larger without becoming complicated: a first formal visit, a weekend stay, a household that has just hosted you for a week. The published answer is a duo set - two bottles in one box. Day & Night pairs Morning Freshness with Evening Calm at ₹1,498; Fresh & Grounded pairs Morning Freshness with Mountain Breeze at ₹1,548; Warmth & Bloom pairs Fresh Brew with Garden Bloom at ₹1,598. In 130ml x 2 they are ₹2,498, ₹2,548 and ₹2,598. Those three pairings are the entire set range, none is composed to order, and both bottles in a set are the same size. On presentation, be straight with yourself before you order: custom label or logo on product is the only branding SOSA offers - there is no custom box, no printed sleeve and no insert card.
Two things worth knowing about afterwards. Reed diffuser refills are ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml and are published for all five scents including Evening Calm, so a household that wants to carry on can, into the same refillable glass bottle. And the duo sets - Day & Night at ₹1,498, Fresh & Grounded at ₹1,548, Warmth & Bloom at ₹1,598 in 50ml x 2, or ₹2,498 to ₹2,598 in 130ml x 2 - are two bottles of the same size for two rooms. Those three pairings are the whole set range, none is composed to order, and a chosen combination of two scents is not offered.
₹749 to ₹849 across five scents, published to last 6 to 8 weeks. Large enough to be a proper object, small enough that the household never has to find permanent space for it.
₹1,249 to ₹1,349, published to last 14 to 18 weeks. The same object with more of it - the honest way to make the gesture larger without making it more complicated.
Two bottles in one box, ₹1,498 to ₹1,598 in 50ml and ₹2,498 to ₹2,598 in 130ml. Three published pairings, and those three are the whole range - none is composed to order.

Why this category answers a first-visit problem at all
It finishes. That is the entire argument, and it is a fact rather than a claim.
The fear behind almost every first-visit gift question is the same one: that you will hand somebody an object they now have to keep. A vase has to be displayed. A framed thing has to go on a wall. A decorative piece has to survive somebody's taste, and you have never seen the room. A reed diffuser is a consumable, so it carries none of that. It sits somewhere for a while and then it is gone, and nobody has to explain why it is no longer out. The published life makes that concrete rather than vague: 6 to 8 weeks for the 50ml (₹749 to ₹849) and 14 to 18 weeks for the 130ml (₹1,249 to ₹1,349). It also asks nothing of the household on the day: no flame, no socket, no switch, no batteries and nothing to explain at a front door - it works by standing there, with 6 fibre reeds in a refillable glass bottle, on a CCT coconut-derived carrier that is phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, made in India. Flip the reeds roughly once a week to refresh projection. What anybody makes of being given one is not something SOSA can tell you, and no page should pretend otherwise.
Tell SOSA who it is for, roughly how big the room is, whether their home is already scented and what you want to spend - and you will be told which size and which scent, including the times the honest answer is the 50ml rather than the 130ml.
Whenever you are in the city is not a debt with a figure attached. It is an arrangement, and the gift that suits it is one that gets used up and leaves it alone.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA
The SOSA gifting range
Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.
The SOSA range, sorted by how much it asks of the person receiving it
Start from what the gift demands, not from what it costs
₹749 to ₹849 across five scents. Published to last 6 to 8 weeks, with 6 fibre reeds and a refillable glass bottle. No flame, no socket, nothing to switch on
Day & Night ₹1,498, Fresh & Grounded ₹1,548, Warmth & Bloom ₹1,598 in 50ml x 2; ₹2,498 to ₹2,598 in 130ml x 2. These three pairings are the whole set range
From ₹379 in 3ml. An attar is a personal gift and a reed diffuser is a household one - which is the distinction most first-visit questions are really about
Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899, Megh ₹5,999 - they need a socket, water and regular refilling. That is a commitment to hand somebody on a first visit
from ₹899
A reed diffuser is a consumable, which is the whole argument for it as a first-visit gift. It is not a permanent object competing for a shelf in somebody else's home, and it needs no flame, no socket, no switch and no explanation at a front door. Published life is 6 to 8 weeks for the 50ml and 14 to 18 weeks for the 130ml, with 6 fibre reeds per bottle, a refillable glass bottle, and a CCT coconut-derived carrier that is phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, made in India. Flip the reeds roughly once a week to refresh projection - the product pages state the interval slightly differently, between every three and every seven days. Fragrance adds a scent to a room; it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour and it does not clean the air. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available, with quantities settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, sending orders across India. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The honest spec sheet
What the SOSA reed pages publish, and what they do not
Everything below is on the live product pages. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
The five scents and their prices - Morning Freshness, Malabar lemon and mint, ₹749 and ₹1,249; Garden Bloom, British rose and night-blooming jasmine, ₹799 and ₹1,299; Evening Calm, lavender and chamomile, ₹799 and ₹1,299; Mountain Breeze, Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, ₹849 and ₹1,349; Fresh Brew, Coorg coffee and Kerala vanilla, ₹849 and ₹1,349.
Published life - 6 to 8 weeks for the 50ml and 14 to 18 weeks for the 130ml, stated on all five pages. This is newer and more specific than the flat figure earlier SOSA writing used.
The format - 6 fibre reeds per bottle rather than rattan, a refillable glass bottle, and a CCT carrier (caprylic/capric triglyceride, coconut-derived) that is phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant. Made in India, formulated by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles trained. No flame, no socket, no switch.
Flip the reeds roughly once a week to refresh projection. The pages state it slightly differently - once a week on three of them, every five to seven days on one, every three to five on another - so treat it as about weekly rather than as a rule.
Duo sets and refills - three published pairings at ₹1,498, ₹1,548 and ₹1,598 in 50ml x 2 and ₹2,498 to ₹2,598 in 130ml x 2, and refills at ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml in all five scents. Those three pairings are the entire set range and none is composed to order.
Not published, and therefore never stated here: any coverage or room-size figure for a reed diffuser; how a scent behaves in a particular home; any bulk rate, minimum quantity, price break or lead time; any presentation packaging beyond a custom label or logo on product; and anything whatsoever about how a gift is received. Those go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
Not sure how big the gesture should be? Tell SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 four things: whose home you are going to and how well you know them, whether you are staying or visiting for an evening, roughly what you want to spend, and whether anybody in the household has said anything about scent. You will get one straight answer rather than a catalogue - including the times the honest answer is the 50ml at ₹749 rather than anything larger. What is not on this page, because SOSA does not publish it: any coverage or room-size figure for a reed diffuser, any bulk rate, minimum quantity or lead time, and anything at all about how a gift is received. What is: 6 to 8 weeks for the 50ml, 14 to 18 weeks for the 130ml, 6 fibre reeds, a refillable glass bottle, and refills at ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml in all five scents. On presentation, be warned: custom label or logo on product is the one branding option - there is no custom box, no printed sleeve and no insert card, and there is no carton, no ribbon and no message card, so anything you want wrapped is yours to arrange. Where SOSA is: an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, sending orders across India, with no shop, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city.

A note from Sonal
A particular kind of message arrives on our WhatsApp, usually in the evening, usually slightly rushed. I am going to his parents' place on Sunday. I have never met them. I cannot go empty-handed and I have no idea what they like. It is one of the few gifting questions where the person is not really shopping. They are trying not to get something wrong in front of people whose opinion they have decided matters.
So the useful thing is not a recommendation, it is a subtraction. Most of what goes wrong with a first-visit gift is permanence. A decorative object has to be kept, displayed, and eventually explained if it is not. Food runs into what people eat. Anything personal runs into taste you have not earned the right to guess at yet. What is left is the category that ends by itself, and that is genuinely why a reed diffuser keeps coming up in those messages.
The part I would want you to hold on to is the least romantic part. The 50ml is published to last six to eight weeks, and the 130ml fourteen to eighteen. It has no flame, no plug and no switch, so nobody has to be shown how it works while their family stands in a doorway. It is a glass bottle and six fibre reeds, and it does the whole job by standing on a surface.
And the part I will not pretend about: I cannot tell you how anybody will take it. Nobody selling you a gift can, and the ones who promise it are selling you reassurance rather than a product. What I can tell you is what the object is, how long it lasts and what it asks of the person receiving it - which is very little. What that is worth on a Sunday afternoon in somebody's living room is yours to judge, not mine.
Frequently asked questions
What can the household actually keep using after I leave?
The bottle itself, for as long as it lasts: the 50ml is published at 6 to 8 weeks and the 130ml at 14 to 18 weeks, used in whichever room they choose. The glass bottle is refillable, and refills are published at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml in all five scents, so carrying on is available to them without being expected of them.
Is there a refill, and does it cover every scent?
Yes. Reed diffuser refills are Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml, and the refills product lists all five scents including Evening Calm. An earlier SOSA fact sheet said otherwise and is out of date. The bottle is refillable glass with 6 fibre reeds.
Should I choose the 50ml or the 130ml for a standing invitation?
The difference published between them is length and volume, not quality. The 50ml is Rs 749 to Rs 849 and lasts 6 to 8 weeks. The 130ml is Rs 1,249 to Rs 1,349 and lasts 14 to 18 weeks, which is the longer answer if what you want is for the household to still be using it months after your visit. SOSA publishes no coverage or room-size figure, so neither size can be matched to a room in advance.
Would something permanent be a better thank-you?
That is your judgement and nothing here can tell you how either would be received. What can be said is what each asks for: a permanent object needs space and renewed approval in a home you are a guest in, and it stays in view of an arrangement that has not ended. A consumable is used and finished, and leaves the invitation where it was.
Can anything be added around the bottle?
No. Custom label or logo on product is the only branding SOSA offers. There is no custom box, no printed sleeve and no insert card. There is no carton, no ribbon and no message card. If it needs to look wrapped, that part is yours. Bulk orders are welcome, with no rate, no minimum quantity and no price break published, and quantities are settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531.
Take the next step
Buy for use, and let it run out
The 130ml at ₹1,249 to ₹1,349 when you want the household still using it months later - 14 to 18 weeks. The 50ml at ₹749 to ₹849 for a shorter run - 6 to 8 weeks. A duo set from ₹1,498 is two bottles of the same size, for two rooms. Refills ₹2,399 and ₹3,499 if they choose to carry on. Ask SOSA on WhatsApp which size suits the number of rooms they actually use.
Not sure which one suits the person you are buying for? Send SOSA their age, whether they drive, whether they like their home scented and your budget on WhatsApp, and you will get an honest answer - including when the cheaper product is the better gift.

Every bottle is supplied with 6 fibre reeds rather than rattan, in a refillable glass bottle, on a CCT carrier - caprylic/capric triglyceride, coconut-derived - that is phthalate-free, paraben-free and IFRA-compliant, made in India. The product pages advise flipping the reeds to refresh projection and state the interval slightly differently, between once a week and every three to seven days, so no single interval is given here as a rule. Three duo combo sets are published: Day & Night at ₹1,498 in 50ml x 2 and ₹2,498 in 130ml x 2, Fresh & Grounded at ₹1,548 and ₹2,548, and Warmth & Bloom at ₹1,598 and ₹2,598; those three pairings are the entire set range and none is composed to order. Reed diffuser refills are ₹2,399 for 300ml and ₹3,499 for 500ml, published for all five scents. For comparison: SOSA attars are ₹379 to ₹399 in 3ml, rising to ₹1,149 to ₹1,199 in 12ml, and are worn rather than placed; SOSA candles start at ₹399 and require a flame; the ultrasonic machines Boond ₹899, Sukoon ₹1,899 and Megh ₹5,999 are water-based and need a socket, water and regular refilling. What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any coverage, room-size or square-footage figure for a reed diffuser; how a scent behaves in any particular home; any shelf life, oil concentration or evaporation rate; any bulk rate, minimum quantity, price break or lead time; and any presentation packaging beyond a custom label or logo on product. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a room. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify an odour, it does not clean the air, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial or air-purifying claim. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep or wellbeing; where a product is named Evening Calm or Mountain Breeze that is a product name and not a claim about its effect. No claim is made about how any gift will be received. Nothing here states or implies that a gift will impress anybody, be appreciated, create a good impression or affect any relationship; SOSA publishes no information of that kind and none is invented here. No statement is made about what any community, religion or family customarily eats, drinks or gives, and no etiquette rule is presented as a fact - the reasoning offered is reasoning the reader can check against their own situation. No rating, review count or customer name from any product page is cited, and no competitor or category of competing product is characterised. Bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available; that is the only branding option, and quantities are settled on WhatsApp. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
