The whole housewarming category assumes a house. For the first month after a relocation there often is not one - just a hotel, then a short-term rental, then possibly another one, and no address that will still be true in three weeks. That does not make the gift impossible. It makes it a question of sequence rather than substitution: something now that works without an address, and the proper housewarming gift later, once there is somewhere to send it. SOSA Safar is ₹3,999 and approximately 6.9 cm.
SOSA Safar portable waterless perfume diffuser, Rs 3,999
SOSA Safar · no address required, approximately 6.9 cm ₹3,999 →
SOSA Safar, ₹3,999 - approximately 6.9 cm, cordless and waterless, cold diffusion of pure oil from a 20ml bottle, a 2000 mAh Type-C battery giving up to 10 hours continuous or 30 hours intermittent, three speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer. It belongs to the person, so it does not need an address.
Quick answers — read this first
What do you give somebody who has relocated but has no permanent address yet? Something that belongs to the person rather than to a room. SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 is approximately 6.9 cm, cordless and waterless, with a 2000 mAh Type-C battery giving up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent per charge, 3 speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer. It works the same in a hotel, a short let and the flat that follows, because nothing about it is installed.

Is this instead of a housewarming gift? No - it is the gift that comes first. A reed diffuser from ₹749 lasting about 6 to 10 weeks is the right housewarming gift, and it becomes right the moment there is a flat and a shelf. Giving Safar now does not use that up. These are two gifts at two points in a move, which is a more useful way to think about it than looking for one object that does both jobs.

Can a gift be sent to a hotel or a short-term rental? Sometimes, and it depends entirely on the property rather than on SOSA. The safer route for the first weeks is to hand the gift over before they go, or send it to an address at this end that they are collecting from. That is another argument for giving the portable thing first and saving the one that belongs to a room until the room exists.
The short answer
Short answer: Treat it as sequencing rather than substitution. Give SOSA Safar at Rs 3,999 now, approximately 6.9 cm, cordless and waterless, because it works in a hotel and a short let alike. Then give a reed diffuser from Rs 749 as the actual housewarming gift once there is a flat.
The pick: A SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 now, and a reed diffuser from ₹749 later, once there is somewhere to send it.
Why: One belongs to a person and needs no address; the other belongs to a room and needs one. Giving them in that order means neither gift arrives at the wrong moment.
Sending something when somebody is having a hard time - at a glanceKeep it small - candle ₹399, attar ₹379, car scent ₹449For their home - reed diffuser ₹749, nothing to switch onSay the words yourself - no card goes in the parcelNever - a parcel instead of turning up
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
Straight answer
What can you give before there is an address to send a housewarming gift to?
Give the thing that belongs to the person, and keep the thing that belongs to a room until there is a room. SOSA Safar is ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios: approximately 6.9 cm, cordless, a 20ml bottle of pure fragrance oil with no water, a 2000 mAh battery over Type-C giving up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent on one charge, three speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer. It is published for a car, a handbag, a desk or a hotel room, which is precisely the list of places somebody spends their first month after a move. Nothing is installed, so it works identically in three addresses in six weeks. The important point, and the one this page exists to make: this is not a replacement for the housewarming gift. A reed diffuser from ₹749, lasting about 6 to 10 weeks with nothing to charge and nothing to switch off, is the right gift for a flat, and it becomes the right gift the moment there is one - liquid in an open bottle is simply the wrong object to hand somebody who is still living out of a case. So give one now and one later. Three limits to know. Safar adds a scent; it does not remove, neutralise or mask what is already there, and it does not humidify. No coverage or room-size figure is published. And battery and liquid rules for the journey belong to the airline - they should check with theirs. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
There is no address, so the gift cannot belong to a room. Give the one that belongs to the person now, and the housewarming gift when there is somewhere to put it.
The sequence in one line: Safar at ₹3,999 now, because it needs no address, and a reed diffuser from ₹749 later, because by then there is one.
See SOSA Safar ₹3,999

What you give in the gap, and what you keep back for later

Three things to work through. The first explains why the usual list has nothing on it for you, and the third is the one that turns a problem into a plan.

1
First
Why the whole housewarming category is unavailable to you
Housewarming gifts are defined by the room they go in. A reed diffuser needs a shelf. A candle needs a surface. Crockery needs a cupboard. Every one of them is chosen for a space, and most of them are also sent to an address, which is the second half of the assumption.

For the first month after a relocation neither half holds. The address is a hotel booking, then a short let, then perhaps another one. Sending anything to those places depends on the property rather than on you, and in any case what turns up has to be packed again within weeks. So the category is not narrowed, it is unavailable - not because the gifts are bad but because their basic premise is missing.

The way out is to stop looking for a housewarming gift that works without a house, and to notice that the gap is a separate occasion with its own answer.
Tip: The category is not narrowed, it is unavailable. Stop looking for a housewarming gift without a house.
2
Second
What actually works in a hotel and a short let
A gift for the gap has one requirement: it has to be indifferent to which room it is in. Safar is approximately 6.9 cm and cordless, so it is not installed anywhere and moving it means putting it in a bag. There is no water in it, so nothing has to be drained before the next move and nothing sits in a rental waiting to be spilled.

The 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer is worth singling out, because the first month is spent out of the room more than in it. It is set when the bag goes down and it stops on its own, so leaving in the morning involves no decision in a property that belongs to somebody else. The 2000 mAh battery over Type-C gives up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent per charge, and Type-C is a cable already in the bag rather than a new plug to find.

SOSA publishes the device for a car, a handbag, a desk or a hotel room, which happens to be an accurate description of the first six weeks after a move.

The usual two clarifications: those hours are the battery on one charge, how long 20ml of oil lasts is not published, and neither is charge time. No coverage or room-size figure is published either, so the three speeds are the only control over strength.
3
Third
Sequence the two gifts rather than choosing between them
This is the part that makes the problem go away. You are not looking for a substitute. You are looking at two gifts at two moments.

Now, before there is an address: Safar at ₹3,999, handed over before they leave or sent to somewhere at this end they are collecting from. It belongs to the person and works in whatever room they are in.

Later, once there is a flat: a reed diffuser from ₹749 in 50ml, or ₹1,249 in 130ml, lasting about 6 to 10 weeks with nothing to charge and nothing to switch off. That is the proper housewarming gift and it is a good one - and it becomes possible the day there is a shelf to stand it on and an address to send it to. Duo sets are from ₹1,498 if it should look like an occasion.

Giving the first does not use up the second, and saying so out loud is half the gift: this one is for now, the flat gets its own thing when you have one. That is a better message than apologising for the timing.

Two practical notes. Battery and liquid rules for the flight belong to the airline, not to SOSA, so they should check with theirs. And the product page lists the diffuser, the 20ml bottle, a Type-C cable and a manual while separately saying to add your own fragrance oil, so ask on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 what comes in the box before you buy it as a gift.
Tip: Say it out loud: this one is for now, the flat gets its own gift later. That is the plan, not an excuse.
SOSA Safar waterless diffuser with three speeds and an auto shut-off timer
The feature that matters away from home
The auto shut-off timer is why this works in a room you are leaving
Safar has a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer and three speed settings. That sounds like a specification line and it is actually the whole argument for using it somewhere that is not your house: you are in somebody else's property, you will walk out in the morning, and you do not want to be the person wondering whether they switched something off. Set it when you drop your bag, and it stops on its own. The battery gives up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent on one charge - which on a four-night trip usually means the Type-C cable stays in the bag.
See SOSA Safar ₹3,999 →
Work it out in this order
Turning no address into a two-part plan
  1. Accept that the housewarming category needs a house, and that there is not one yet.
  2. Give Safar at Rs 3,999 now: about 6.9 cm, cordless, waterless, no address needed.
  3. Hand it over before they go, or send it to somewhere at this end they collect from.
  4. Keep a reed diffuser from Rs 749 back for the flat, and tell them that is the plan.
The SOSA principle
A housewarming gift is really a gift to a room, which is why it cannot be given before the room exists. The gap is not a smaller version of the same occasion - it is a different one, and it has a different answer.
Once you see it as two gifts at two moments rather than one compromise, the choosing gets easy and neither gift has to pretend to be the other.

Which scent now, and which format when the flat exists

Since the scent has to work in a hotel room this month and quite possibly a flat in three months, choose something you would be happy with in both. At ₹3,999 the SOSA-scent trios are vetiver with Mysore sandalwood and tobacco vanilla, white jasmine with neelakurinji and Malabar lemon, or Japanese cherry blossom with mahogany and sage and cedar - three fragrances rather than one, which is useful when you are guessing. At ₹4,499 the hotel-inspired trios are SOSA's own interpretations of the kind of scent associated with particular hotel groups, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. There is an argument both ways for somebody living in hotels this month: if they like that register, it lands; if the whole point is a scent that is not a lobby, take the ₹3,999 tier. When the reed diffuser follows later, Morning Freshness at ₹749 in 50ml is the easiest first one to send to a new flat.

The SOSA gift edit
What to give now, and what to keep back
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
SOSA Safar, now · ₹3,999 to ₹4,499 Approximately 6.9 cm, cordless, waterless, a 2000 mAh Type-C battery giving up to 30 hours intermittent, three speeds and a 1/2/3-hour auto shut-off. It needs no address and no installation, so it works through a hotel, a short let and whatever follows. It does nothing about how any of those rooms already smells.
A reed diffuser, later · from ₹749 50ml from ₹749 and 130ml from ₹1,249, about 6 to 10 weeks, nothing to charge and nothing to switch off. This is the actual housewarming gift and it is a good one. It needs a shelf and an address, which is exactly what does not exist yet - so it is the second gift, not the rejected one.
A large assembled gift box · the default The usual answer when somebody does not know what to send, and the worst one here. It is mostly volume, it has to go somewhere, and everything in it has to be carried to the next address within weeks. Nothing about it survives a month of short lets.
An attar · from ₹379 3ml of alcohol-free roll-on oil, the smallest thing on this page and the easiest to hand over at an airport. It scents the person rather than the room, so it answers a different question, and it is a taste decision. A good extra alongside the main gift rather than the main gift.
SOSA Safar waterless travel diffuser, approximately 6.9 cm
The measurement the packing question turns on
6.9 cm, no water, and nothing that can leak into a suitcase
A reed diffuser is liquid in an open bottle and a candle needs a flame, which is why neither travels. Safar is approximately 6.9 cm, takes no water at all, and carries its fragrance as pure oil in a sealed 20ml bottle - so the thing that usually rules a fragrance product out of a suitcase does not apply. Two honest notes: what arrives in terms of oil is worth confirming before you buy this as a gift, and battery and liquid rules for flying belong to the airline, not to SOSA, so check with yours rather than with a page.
See the nebuliser oils from ₹1,049 →

The mechanics, briefly. Safar takes pure fragrance oil into the 20ml bottle and no water. SOSA's waterless nebuliser oils are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm, and a good-quality pure essential oil also works, while thick, sticky or water-based blends can clog the mechanism. It never takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle, which belongs to the ultrasonic machines. Because the oils are sent within India, send one with the device rather than leaving them to find a substitute in the first fortnight abroad. And if the flat, when it appears, turns out to be a large open one, SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is the mains machine rated for approximately 1000 m3 of connected air - a serious housewarming gift, and one that can only be given once there is an address and a wall to put it near.

Waterless nebuliser oils at ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm. Pure oil into the 20ml bottle, no water. Thick, sticky or water-based blends can clog the mechanism, so this is not the place to improvise.
from ₹1,049
The one distinction that settles most of these questions
Safar ₹3,999 goes with the person. Vaayu ₹11,999 stays with the building
Safar is 6.9 cm, runs on a 2000 mAh battery over Type-C, and gives up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent on one charge, with 3 speeds and a 1/2/3-hour auto shut-off timer. It is published for a car, a handbag, a desk or a hotel room, and it is aroma only - it does not humidify. Vaayu is the opposite proposition: a mains-powered waterless cold-air machine rated for approximately 1000 m3 of connected air, with a Bluetooth app and timer, a 400ml tank, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting and a DC 12V / 1A 5W supply, CE, RoHS and SGS marked. That rating assumes one connected body of air, so a Vaayu suits a large open home or a business and is wrong for a property with every door shut - and it is wrong for a suitcase by definition. Both run waterless nebuliser oil at ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm, and neither takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle. So the question is rarely which is better. It is whether you are scenting a place or a person's week.

You are not short of a housewarming gift. You are early for one, and those are different problems with different answers.

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.

What the Safar page publishes, and what it does not
Everything below is on the live product page. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
  • The device - SOSA Safar, a waterless cordless cold-diffusion perfume diffuser, aroma only. Approximately 6.9 cm, so it fits a cup-holder or a handbag. Published for a car, a handbag, a desk or a hotel room.
  • Power - a 2000 mAh rechargeable lithium battery charged over Type-C, cable included. Up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent on one charge. Those figures describe the battery, not how long the oil lasts.
  • Control - 3 speeds from light to intense, and a 1 / 2 / 3-hour auto shut-off timer. The timer is the reason it works in a room you are going to walk out of.
  • The oil - a 20ml bottle, filled with pure fragrance oil. SOSA waterless nebuliser oils are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm; a good-quality pure essential oil also works, while thick, sticky or water-based blends can clog the mechanism. It never takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle.
  • Price - ₹3,999 for the SOSA-scent trios and ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios, which are SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. In the box: the diffuser, the 20ml bottle, a Type-C cable and a user manual. Country of origin China (imported) - SOSA's fragrances are made in India, the device is not.
  • Not published, and therefore never stated here: any coverage, room-size or square-footage figure; how long a charge takes; how long a 20ml fill lasts; any warranty period beyond being backed by SOSA support; noise, water resistance or operating temperature; anything about carrying a lithium battery on an aircraft, which is the airline's rule and not SOSA's; and anything about what a hotel will or will not permit in its rooms. Those go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531, or in the case of flying, to your airline.

A note from Sonal

Safar started as a car product and then the messages changed. People kept writing to tell me where they had actually been using it, and it was almost never the car. It was a hotel room in a city they were in for two nights. It was a serviced flat in a place they had not chosen to live. It was a daughter's room in a university halls of residence eleven time zones away.

What I think is going on is quite specific, and it is not about luxury. A room you have not chosen is a room you have no memory of. Everything in it was selected by somebody else for somebody who is not you, and most of it is perfectly nice. The thing that makes a space yours is not how expensive it is - it is that something in it is the same as it was yesterday. Scent is unusually good at being that something, because it is the one part of a room you can carry in a handbag.

The feature I would point at, if I could only point at one, is the auto shut-off timer. It sounds like a small engineering detail and it is the reason the thing works away from home. You are in somebody else's property, you will leave in the morning, and you do not want to think about whether you switched something off. One hour, two or three, and it stops on its own.

And the part I will not dress up: this does not fix anything about being far from the people you like. It is a diffuser. It adds a scent you chose to a space you did not choose, and it does not remove whatever the room already smells of. That is a smaller claim than the ones usually made about travel products, and it happens to be true.

Frequently asked questions

What do you give somebody who has relocated but has no address yet?
Something that belongs to the person rather than to a room. SOSA Safar is Rs 3,999, approximately 6.9 cm, cordless and waterless, with a 2000 mAh Type-C battery giving up to 10 hours continuous or up to 30 hours intermittent per charge, three speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off timer. It is published for a car, a handbag, a desk or a hotel room, which is most of a first month after a move.
Does giving this mean I cannot give a housewarming gift later?
Not at all, and it is worth saying so when you hand it over. A reed diffuser from Rs 749 in 50ml, or Rs 1,249 in 130ml, lasting about 6 to 10 weeks, is the proper housewarming gift and it becomes possible the day there is a flat and an address. Treat the two as a sequence rather than as alternatives.
Why is a reed diffuser wrong for the first month?
Because it is liquid held in an open bottle, and the first month is spent moving between a hotel and short-term rentals. That format is designed to sit undisturbed on a shelf for about 6 to 10 weeks, which is the opposite of being packed every fortnight. Nothing is wrong with the product; the timing is wrong.
Can I send a gift to a hotel or a short-term rental?
That depends on the property and not on SOSA, so it is not something a page can promise you. The simpler route for the first weeks is to hand the gift over before they travel, or send it to an address at this end that they are collecting from. It is another reason to give the portable gift first.
Will it make a rented room smell better than it does?
No. Safar adds a scent you chose to a space you did not choose, and it does not remove, neutralise or mask what is already there. It is aroma only and does not humidify, and SOSA publishes no coverage or room-size figure for it. If a short let genuinely smells of damp, that is a conversation with whoever manages it.

SOSA waterless nebuliser oils, which Safar and SOSA Vaayu both run on, are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm; neither device takes the ₹299 water-based Hotel Collection bottle. SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 is a mains-powered waterless cold-air nebulising diffuser rated for approximately 1000 cubic metres of connected air with a Bluetooth app and timer, a 400 ml tank, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting and a DC 12V / 1A 5W supply, CE, RoHS and SGS; SOSA Meenar ₹38,500 covers 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft. What the Safar page does not publish, and what is therefore not stated anywhere here: any coverage, room-size, square-footage or cubic-volume figure; how long the battery takes to charge; how long a 20 ml fill of oil lasts, which is a different thing from battery runtime; any warranty period; noise level, water resistance or operating temperature; and how many drops a fill takes. The page's in-the-box list and its repeated instruction to add your own fragrance oil do not settle whether fragrance oil arrives with the device, so no claim is made here either way. About air travel: nothing on this page states or implies that Safar may be carried in cabin or hold baggage or taken through airport security. A rechargeable lithium battery is governed by the airline's rules and the reader should check with their airline. Nothing here states what any hotel will or will not permit in its rooms. Limits of this guide: Safar adds a scent to a space. It does not remove, neutralise, mask, cancel or purify any odour, it does not clean or humidify the air, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial or air-purifying claim. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep, comfort, homesickness or wellbeing: fragrance is a scent, not a treatment, and where a product name contains a word such as Calm that is a name and not an effect. No claim is made about how any recipient will feel. About origin and affiliation: SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, and sends orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city. SOSA's fragrances are made in India; the Safar device is imported, with China stated as its country of origin. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
