An odour that keeps coming back is not a fragrance problem - it is a source problem. The best solution is to hunt down the source and remove it, then keep the clean air fresh. Here is the systematic way I do it, and where a reed diffuser truly belongs.
Quick answers — read this first
What is the best solution for persistent bathroom odours? Find and remove the source. Persistent odours come from drains, trapped moisture, an overlooked bin or a dry drain trap. Fix that, ventilate and clean, then use a reed diffuser to keep the clean air fresh.

Can a reed diffuser remove a persistent odour? No. A reed masks and freshens; it does not remove an odour source. If the source stays, the odour returns as the scent fades. The diffuser is the last step, after the source is gone.

What is a common hidden source of bathroom odour? A dry floor drain or P-trap. When the water seal in a drain evaporates, sewer gas can rise into the room. Pouring some water down unused drains often clears a stubborn smell.
The short answer
The real fix: find and remove the source - drains, moisture, bin, dry traps.
Common culprit: a dry floor drain letting sewer gas up; refill it with water.
Then ventilate: air the room and clean, so the clean air can settle.
Scent's role: Morning Freshness keeps clean air fresh - it does not remove sources.
Scent throw by reed count (illustrative, not clinical)Full reed set — strong throw, fastest use4 reeds — balanced, everyday level2–3 reeds — subtle, longest-lasting
Illustrative only. More reeds means a stronger scent throw and faster oil use; fewer reeds is subtler and lasts longer. You control the strength by how many reeds you use - start low and add more if needed.
Straight answer
What is the best solution for persistent bathroom odours?

The best solution for persistent bathroom odours is to find and remove the source, because an odour that keeps returning is being fed by something you have not fixed yet - a drain, trapped moisture, an overlooked bin, or a dry drain trap letting sewer gas up. Track it down, remove it, ventilate and clean the room, and only then use a reed diffuser like SOSA Morning Freshness to keep the clean air smelling fresh. I will be honest with you: a reed masks and freshens, it does not remove an odour source. If you scent over a live source, the smell comes straight back when the fragrance fades.

A returning odour has a source you have not found yet. Remove it, ventilate, then let Morning Freshness keep the clean air fresh.

Hunt the source, room by room

When an odour is persistent - back within hours no matter what you spray - it means something in the room is actively producing it. Chasing it with fragrance is like turning up the music to cover a leak. So the best solution starts with detective work, and it is more effective than any product.

The usual suspects: a dry floor drain or P-trap letting sewer gas up; grimy grout and silicone growing mildew; a bin that needs emptying and cleaning; a slow drain with buildup; damp mats and towels; and the underside of the toilet rim and base.

The one people miss most is the dry drain. A floor drain or P-trap holds a small pool of water that seals sewer gas out of the room. In a bathroom you do not use often, or in dry heat, that water evaporates and the seal breaks, so sewer smell rises up. Pouring a mug of water down every drain, including the floor drain, restores the seal and often clears a smell that no amount of spraying could touch.

Myth: a persistent odour just needs a stronger air freshener. Reality: if the source is live, a stronger freshener only masks it longer between refreshes. Remove the source and the odour has nothing to come back from.

Once you have checked the drains, the bin, the grout, the towels and the toilet, ventilate hard - run the exhaust fan, open a window if you have one - and give the room a proper clean. This is the part that actually ends a persistent odour.

Keep the clean air fresh

With the source gone and the room clean and aired, now a reed diffuser does exactly the job it is good at: keeping clean air pleasant, continuously, without you having to think about it. This is the honest, correct role for fragrance in a bathroom.

I use Morning Freshness because its crisp lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus profile reads as clean and bright, which suits a bathroom you have just reset. It releases steadily from an alcohol-free, coconut-derived base, so instead of a burst that fades it holds a low, consistent freshness for weeks.

Honest limit: a SOSA reed is a fragrance, not an odour eliminator and not air purification. It cannot neutralise sewer gas or fix a dry trap. Its job is to keep a truly clean bathroom smelling fresh, and it is very good at that.

Set it up with three or four reeds in a small bathroom, keep it off the direct shower spray, and flip the reeds weekly. If you have done the source work first, you will find the scent lasts and the odour does not return.

You do not deodorise a bathroom with fragrance. You find the source, remove it, and then keep the clean air fresh.

A note from Sonal

I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, and when I came home to India I kept noticing the same thing on the shelves: lovely bottles, vague labels. Nobody would tell you what the carrier was, or name the notes.

So SOSA reed diffusers use a disclosed CCT coconut-derived carrier, are phthalate-free and IFRA-aligned, name their top, heart and base notes, and are tested in real Indian heat and humidity - not a mild lab climate. Flame-free, heatless, electricity-free, built from real materials.

I would rather you used this guide to buy well than to buy ours by reflex. If another brand discloses its carrier and names its materials, buy it happily. I just think you deserve to know what is scenting your home.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best way to get rid of a persistent bathroom odour?
Find and remove the source - drains, a dry drain trap, the bin, mildew in grout, damp towels. Then ventilate and clean. A reed diffuser keeps the clean air fresh but does not remove the source.
Why does my bathroom odour keep coming back after I spray?
Because the source is still active. Sprays mask the smell for a while, then it returns when the scent fades. Remove the source and there is nothing for the odour to come back from.
Can a reed diffuser eliminate bathroom odour?
No. It masks and freshens the air. It does not remove or neutralise an odour source. Use it as the finishing step after cleaning and ventilating.
What is a hidden cause of persistent bathroom smell?
A dry floor drain or P-trap. When the water seal evaporates, sewer gas can rise. Pour water down unused drains to restore the seal - it often clears a stubborn smell.
Is Morning Freshness good for keeping a bathroom fresh?
Yes. Its clean lemon-mint-eucalyptus profile suits bathrooms, and its alcohol-free coconut-derived base releases scent steadily for weeks once the room itself is clean.
