This is the setup page: where to put the machine, what to set it to, how the tank behaves across a wet season, and what to change when the rains stop. It assumes you have already dealt with the damp, because a machine on a damp house is just fragrance over a musty smell, and that is worse than either on its own.
Quick answers — read this first
Where should I place a SOSA Vaayu in a home during monsoon? On the air path rather than in a corner: a corridor, a landing, the stairwell of a two-storey house, or beside an air-conditioning return. Scent travels with moving air, and in the rains the air moving in your house is whatever the fans and the AC are doing, since the windows are shut. Keep internal doors ajar so the floor behaves as one volume, keep the machine out of easy reach and use the key-lock, and do not place it inside a small closed room where fragrance will accumulate. One unit covers 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, so most homes need one per floor.

What schedule and intensity should a Vaayu run at in humid weather? Lower and shorter than in winter. Humid air disperses fragrance slowly and holds it longer, so the same setting reads much heavier in July. Most homes are comfortable with a low intensity for a few hours in the morning and a short cycle in the evening, using the 1, 4, 8 and 24 hour timers, rather than a long continuous run. Judge the level by walking in from outside, not by sitting in the room, because your nose adapts within minutes. If the fragrance is obvious from the doorway, drop it a step.

How long does a SOSA Vaayu 400ml tank last in the monsoon? Up to about 75 days depending on intensity and run hours, and because monsoon settings are lower and cycles shorter, a large part of the season often runs on a single fill. Across a year that works out to roughly five fills. Refill when the level is low rather than waiting for it to empty, keep the tank sealed between fills, and use the same fragrance in every machine in the house so the whole home reads as one home rather than as separate rooms.
The short answer
Short answer: place it on the air path - a corridor, landing, stairwell or beside an AC return - with internal doors ajar so the floor behaves as one volume. Run short cycles morning and evening at one intensity step lower than you would in winter, because humid air holds fragrance longer. The 400ml tank lasts up to about 75 days, so a season usually runs on one or two fills. All of this assumes the house is already dry, clean and moving air.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) per 1000m³ of connected air, waterless so it adds no humidity, set low and scheduled rather than run continuously.
Next step: send us the layout and tell us which rooms you use most, and we will suggest placement and a schedule - ask us what fits your home.
Setting up a Vaayu for the monsoonBefore anything: the house must be dry, clean and moving airPlacement: on the air path - corridor, landing, stairwell, AC returnSchedule: short cycles morning and evening, not a continuous burnIntensity: one step lower than winter - humid air holds fragranceRefill: 400ml up to about 75 days, so a season on one or two fills
This is a setup guide, not a fix. The first row is a pre-condition: a machine on a damp house simply adds fragrance to a musty smell. Once the house is dry, the remaining decisions are placement, schedule and intensity, and in the rains all three lean lighter than you would expect.

Straight answer
How do I set up a SOSA Vaayu properly for the monsoon?
Start with the pre-condition, because it decides whether any of the rest matters: the house has to be dry, clean and moving air. Find and fix the moisture, run fans and extraction, use a dehumidifier or the AC dry mode where the house needs one, dry the mattresses, cushions and wardrobes, and clean anything with visible growth. Fragrance does not remove odour molecules. It adds fragrance on top of them, so scent sprayed into a damp room gives you both smells at once, and the musty note usually wins because it keeps being produced. A diffuser is not an air purifier, it does not disinfect, kill mould or dehumidify, and it makes no health claim. Find the water, dry the material, clean what has grown, and scent afterwards. Now the setup. Placement: put the machine where the air already moves, not where there is a free plug socket. In a flat that usually means the main corridor or beside an air-conditioning return; in a two-storey house it is the landing or the stairwell, because the stair connects the floors and air moves through it naturally. Avoid the geometric centre of a large room, avoid tucking it behind furniture, avoid putting it inside a small closed room where fragrance accumulates instead of dispersing, and keep internal doors ajar so a floor behaves as one volume. Keep it out of easy reach in a home with children and use the key-lock so the setting is not changed. It can stand freestanding, be wall mounted or be mounted to an HVAC duct. Sizing: one unit covers 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, so measure length by width by height for each connected volume and divide by 1000. Most homes are one machine; most two-storey villas are one per floor with the same oil in both. Schedule and intensity: run it lighter than you would in winter. Humid air disperses fragrance more slowly and holds it longer, so use the timers for a low-intensity run of a few hours in the morning and a short cycle in the evening rather than a continuous burn. Judge the level by walking in from outside, because your own nose adapts in minutes; if it is obvious from the doorway, drop a step. Refills: the 400ml tank lasts up to about 75 days depending on intensity and run hours, so a restrained monsoon schedule often covers most of the season on one fill, roughly five fills a year. Maintenance in the rains: keep the unit off the floor in any room that has ever taken water, wipe dust off the casing since damp dust holds odour, keep the tank sealed between fills, and if you move the machine between floors, let it settle upright before running it. And the line I will not soften: if the smell is still there after the room has been properly dried, the soft things have been washed or sunned and the surfaces have been cleaned, stop shopping and start looking for a leak. Persistent musty smell in a dried, cleaned room means water is still arriving from somewhere - seepage through an outside wall, a terrace or balcony waterproofing failure, a bathroom or kitchen pipe leaking inside a wall, a blocked rainwater outlet, or rising damp at floor level. That is a building repair, and no fragrance product of any kind is a substitute for it. A free home scenting plan will confirm placement from your layout, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Place it on the air path, size one per 1000m³, run short cycles at one step lower than winter, refill a 400ml tank about five times a year. And only on a house that is already dry and clean.

Placement, schedule and intensity for the rains

Three setup decisions, and one pre-condition that matters more than all of them. Get the pre-condition wrong and nothing below will help.

1
Placement: where the air already moves
Corridor, landing, stairwell or beside the AC return
Fragrance travels with air, and in a monsoon house the air that is moving is whatever the fans and the air conditioning are doing, because the windows are shut. So put the machine into that flow rather than into a convenient corner. In a flat the main corridor works, and so does a position beside an air-conditioning return, because the return draws room air past the machine and redistributes it. In a two-storey house the landing or the stairwell is almost always right, since the stair connects the floors and air moves through it naturally. Things to avoid: tucking it behind a sofa, standing it in the geometric centre of a large still room, or placing it inside a small closed room, where fragrance accumulates rather than disperses. Leave internal doors ajar so the floor behaves as one volume. Keep it out of easy reach of children and use the key-lock. In any room that has ever taken water in the rains, keep it off the floor.
Tip: place it in the draught, not in the corner. The corner is where fragrance goes to sit still.

2
Schedule and intensity: lighter than winter
Short cycles, low setting, judged from the doorway
This is the setting people get wrong in July, usually by turning up rather than down. Humid air disperses fragrance more slowly and holds it longer, and damp soft furnishings absorb and re-release it, so the same intensity that read as gentle in January reads as thick in the rains. Use the timers rather than running continuously: a low-intensity run of a few hours in the morning while the house wakes up, and a short cycle in the early evening, suits most homes. If you are home all day, two or three short cycles beat one long one. Judge the result by stepping outside for five minutes and walking back in, because your own nose adapts to a fragrance within a couple of minutes and will tell you nothing useful from the sofa. If the fragrance is identifiable from the doorway, drop a step. The right level is one where a visitor thinks the house is nice rather than thinking the house smells of something.
SOSA Vaayu

3
Refills and maintenance across a wet season
400ml, up to about 75 days, and a few small habits
The 400ml tank lasts up to about 75 days depending on intensity and run hours, so a restrained monsoon schedule commonly covers a large part of the season on one fill, and a year works out to roughly five fills. Refill when the level runs low rather than waiting for it to empty, and keep the bottle sealed between fills so nothing absorbs moisture from the air. Use the same fragrance in every machine in the house, and change the profile by season rather than by room: something cooler, drier and more mineral for the rains, and if you love the sweeter compositions, bring them back in October when the air can carry them again. Maintenance is light. Wipe dust off the casing, because damp dust holds odour of its own. Keep the unit off the floor in any room that has taken water. If you move it between floors, let it stand upright for a while before running it. At 5W, a ten-hour daily schedule is around a unit and a half of electricity a month, so running cost is not a factor in your decision.
Tip: change the fragrance with the season, not the intensity. Turning a heavy scent up is what makes a wet house feel airless.

The SOSA principle
Almost every complaint about a diffuser being too strong in the rains is a schedule problem, not a machine problem.
Humid air holds fragrance far longer than dry air. Shorter cycles, lower intensity, and judge it from the doorway.
SOSA Vaayu
One machine per 1000m³: SOSA Vaayu covers about 2,000-3,000 sq ft from a single point on the air path. ₹11,999.

Refills, maintenance and what changes in October

Here is the whole setup as a checklist, in the order you should do it. The first row is not optional, and it is the one people skip.

The SOSA plan
The monsoon setup checklist, in order
What you are actually smelling What fixes it
Before installing anything
The house must be dry, clean and moving air. Moisture found and fixed, material dried, growth cleaned, fans and extraction running. A machine on a damp house gives you fragrance plus musty.
Placement
On the air path: corridor, landing, stairwell or beside an AC return. Internal doors ajar, out of easy reach, key-lock on, and off the floor in any room that takes water.
Schedule and intensity
Short morning and evening cycles rather than continuous, at one intensity step lower than winter. Judge it by walking in from outside, and drop a step if it is obvious from the doorway.
SOSA VaayuThe machine and its refills
One SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) per 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft. A 400ml tank lasts up to about 75 days, so a season usually runs on one or two fills. View →

If you have not yet decided whether to buy at all, is the SOSA Vaayu suitable for home fragrancing during monsoon gives the straight yes-and-no, including the situations where we say wait. For the fragrance itself, the best home fragrance for monsoon in India covers which families hold up in humid air. And the cluster pillar is why your house doesn't smell fresh even after cleaning. Here is the technical point that decides which machine belongs in a monsoon house, and it is a technical reason rather than a commercial one. Most home diffusers sold in India are ultrasonic: a plate vibrates in a tank of water and throws a fine cool mist of water plus a water-based fragrance into the room. That machine is also, unavoidably, a small humidifier. In July, in a room that already smells musty because the air and the materials are holding too much water, an ultrasonic diffuser is adding the exact thing causing the smell. The SOSA Vaayu is waterless: it nebulises pure fragrance oil straight from a 400ml tank into a fine dry aerosol, with no water, no heat and no residue, so it adds no moisture to a room, a wardrobe or a cushion. That is why it is the right machine in humid weather. It is not why the room smells better - drying the room is why the room smells better. No machine of any kind fixes damp.

SOSA Vaayu
Waterless, all season: SOSA Vaayu nebulises pure fragrance oil with no water and no heat, so it adds no humidity. ₹11,999.
Air path, short cycles, low setting, one or two fills a season.
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999, waterless, 1000m³ or about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, 400ml up to about 75 days, under 38dB.

A well set-up machine is one nobody notices. If the house announces its fragrance from the doorway in July, the setting is wrong, not the scent.

One repeated caution, because this is the setup page and people arrive here ready to buy: Fragrance does not remove odour molecules. No placement, schedule or fragrance choice changes that. Get the house dry first and this guide will work exactly as written. A note from Sonal

Most of the setup advice for the monsoon comes down to doing less. People turn a diffuser up in the rains because the house smells damp, and that is the wrong lever entirely: the damp needs drying, and the fragrance needs to come down, not up. Humid air holds a scent for much longer than dry air does, so the setting that felt gentle in January will feel like a wall in July.

The other thing that changes results more than anything else is placement. Put the machine where air is already moving - a corridor, a landing, the stairwell, beside an air-conditioning return - and leave the internal doors ajar so the floor behaves as one body of air. A Vaayu covers about 2,000-3,000 sq ft when it is in the flow, and very little of that when it is behind a sofa in a still corner.

And the pre-condition, which I will keep repeating because it is the whole basis of how we work. This guide assumes a dry, clean house. If yours is not there yet, put the money into a dehumidifier and a look at the terrace this month, and buy the machine when it will actually do what you want. Frequently asked questions

Where should I place a SOSA Vaayu in my home during monsoon?
On the air path rather than in a corner: the main corridor, a landing, the stairwell in a two-storey house, or beside an air-conditioning return. In the rains the moving air in your house is whatever the fans and the AC are doing, so put the machine into that flow. Leave internal doors ajar so the floor behaves as one volume, keep it out of easy reach and use the key-lock, avoid placing it inside a small closed room, and keep it off the floor in any room that has taken water.
What settings should I use on a Vaayu in humid weather?
Lower intensity and shorter cycles than you would use in winter. Humid air disperses fragrance slowly and holds it longer, so the same setting reads much heavier in July. A low-intensity run of a few hours in the morning and a short cycle in the evening suits most homes, using the 1, 4, 8 and 24 hour timers rather than running continuously. Judge the level by walking in from outside, because your nose adapts within minutes, and drop a step if the fragrance is obvious from the doorway.
How often will I need to refill it during the rains?
The 400ml tank lasts up to about 75 days depending on intensity and run hours, and because monsoon settings are lower and cycles shorter, a large part of the season often runs on one fill. Across a year that is roughly five fills. Refill when the level runs low rather than waiting for it to empty, keep the bottle sealed between fills, and use the same fragrance in every machine in the house.
Does the Vaayu need special maintenance in the monsoon?
Very little. Wipe dust off the casing, because damp dust holds odour of its own. Keep the tank sealed between refills. Keep the unit off the floor in any room that has ever taken water in the rains, and if you move it between floors let it stand upright for a while before running it. There is no water tank to empty or descale, because the machine is waterless and runs on pure fragrance oil.
Do I need to change anything when the monsoon ends?
Two things. Lift the intensity back up a step, because dry air disperses fragrance faster and clears it sooner, so the low monsoon setting will feel too faint by late October. And consider changing the profile: the warmer, sweeter, richer compositions that turn cloying in humid air come into their own once the weather is dry, so the fragrance you put away in June is the one to bring back.
