The default answer: one Evening Calm 50ml at ₹799 per recipient. Swap to Morning Freshness at ₹749 once the list is long.
For your own home: one bottle per room where you actually stop moving — two for most flats, three if you work from home. Not one per room on the floor plan.
The honest refusals, all in one place: no reed diffuser below ₹749 and no machine below ₹899 · the ₹299 Hotel Collection 15ml is a machine refill, never a gift · no gift set, box, hamper or curated collection · no gift card · no gift wrap, note or personalisation · no room spray, every SOSA spray is a car perfume · no oud, sandalwood, vetiver or amber reed, though the Smoked Oudh and Sandalwood candles at ₹449 do exist · no published bulk programme · and no delivery-date promise, so if a gift must be in somebody's hands on a particular day, buy locally.
2. Quantity down the list, second. One bottle per recipient, never one shared between two households, and add the two or three names that always appear later while you are still at the planning stage rather than at the doorstep. For your own home, count only the rooms where you actually stop moving — two for most flats, three if you work from home.
3. Fragrance last, and chosen for the group rather than for you. Evening Calm at ₹799 is the safest, because lavender is the one note in the range with no prior Indian association to argue with. Morning Freshness ₹749 at volume. Mountain Breeze ₹849 for the hard-to-buy-for. Garden Bloom ₹799 only when you know they like flowers. Fresh Brew ₹849 never as a blind buy.
4. Size by the room, not by the budget. The 50ml covers up to about 150 sq ft and runs 6–8 weeks. The 130ml at ₹1,249–₹1,349 covers above that and runs 14–18 weeks. If you cannot see the room, buy the 50ml; it is right more often. The six fibre reeds are the volume dial — all six for a living room, three for a bedside.
5. Know what we do not sell before you plan around it. No gift set, no gift card, no wrapping or gift note, no room spray, no oud reed, no reed below ₹749, no machine below ₹899, no published bulk rate, and no delivery-date promise. Every one of those is set out in full below, because a guide that only lists what it can sell you is not a guide.

Why the order matters more than any single decision in it
There is nothing clever about budget, quantity and fragrance as categories. Everybody knows those are the three variables. What goes wrong is the sequence, and it goes wrong the same way every year. The buyer starts with fragrance, because fragrance is the interesting part and the only part that feels like a choice rather than a chore. They read about a composition, decide they like it, look at the price, then count the names on the list — and discover that the number they have arrived at is either unaffordable across eleven people or so cheap that it embarrasses them. At that point they either abandon the plan or scale it down badly, and the scaled-down version is where the real damage is done, because it usually means tiering by price inside a group of people who all know each other.
Reversed, the same three decisions take about ten minutes. The per-head figure is a hard constraint and it should be applied first, because it eliminates entire shelves rather than individual products. At ₹500 a head there is no reed at SOSA — not a smaller one, not a different size, none — so the shelf is candles, and knowing that immediately is worth more than any amount of browsing. At ₹749–₹849 the whole reed line opens and the decision becomes genuinely interesting. At ₹1,498 a duo becomes possible, which is two 50ml bottles and the right shape for a two-person gift. Quantity comes second because it is the multiplier that turns fifty rupees of scent preference into ₹1,250 across a list of twenty-five. And fragrance comes last precisely because by then it has been narrowed to a real question — which of two or three scents, for this particular group — rather than an open one.
The other reason to put fragrance last is that it is the decision most contaminated by your own taste, and your own taste is the least relevant input on a gift list. On a list of one you are guessing about one person; on a list of thirty you are making a single bet about a population. The mathematics of those two situations are different: the interesting scent delights a third and puzzles a third, while the quiet scent is acceptable to nearly everybody. That is why the rule at volume is counter-intuitive and consistent — the longer the list, the quieter the scent — and why Fresh Brew, which is a superb bottle and a 4.9-rated one, should never lead an employee or client list.
₹449 singles₹449Work in rupees per person, not in total. Below ₹749 there is no SOSA reed diffuser at any size and below ₹899 no machine, so a ₹500 figure puts you on the candle shelf: jar candles ₹379, Sandalwood and Smoked Oudh ₹449, wax melts ₹474, car perfumes ₹449–₹509, 3ml attars ₹379–₹399. Those are good gifts at that figure and not consolation prizes. One useful piece of arithmetic: free shipping starts at ₹499, so a single ₹379 candle does not clear it and a ₹749 reed does — which closes part of the apparent gap before you compare anything else.
Day & Night duo₹1,498One bottle per name, added up at the planning stage with the two or three late names already included. For your own home the count is different and almost everybody gets it wrong: count the rooms where you stop moving, not the rooms on the floor plan. A passage, a corridor and a spare room nobody sits in are floor-plan rooms; a bedroom and wherever you sit in the evening are the real ones. Buy two different registers rather than the same scent twice — the nose habituates to a constant and a uniformly scented house stops registering within a week. Above roughly twenty-five units, write via the contact page first.
Evening Calm₹799By the time you reach this decision it should be a choice between two or three bottles, not five. Evening Calm ₹799 at 8.9 is the safest, because rose, jasmine, coffee and pine all arrive in an Indian home attached to something — a temple, a wedding, a kitchen, a hill station — and lavender does not. Morning Freshness ₹749 at volume. Mountain Breeze ₹849 for the person nobody can buy for. Garden Bloom ₹799 only with knowledge. Fresh Brew ₹849 for a coffee household and nobody else.
Decision one, in full: what each budget band actually buys
The bands below are real and the boundaries between them are hard, not soft. The most important line in the whole cluster is at ₹749, because that is where the reed diffuser category opens and there is nothing beneath it — no smaller bottle, no travel size, no entry version. I am aware that is inconvenient on a page whose readers are mostly working to a number, and I would rather state it in the first screen of every budget page than let somebody scroll for ten minutes looking for something that does not exist. Below ₹749 the answer is a candle, and the ₹449 Smoked Oudh in particular is the strongest single item on the sub-₹500 shelf — partly because it is genuinely good and partly because oud is a register the reed line does not contain at all.
Above ₹749 the decisions become about duration and shape rather than about availability. A 50ml runs six to eight weeks; a 130ml at ₹1,249–₹1,349 runs fourteen to eighteen, which for a Diwali gift means the difference between a gift that ends around new year and one that ends around March. A duo at ₹1,498–₹1,598 is two 50ml bottles — it is not a boxed set, and I will keep saying that because the word invites the assumption — and it is the correct shape for a two-person gift or for somebody whose taste you want to hedge on, because they keep the one they prefer. Above ₹1,500 the range moves into 130ml duos at ₹2,498–₹2,598 and the Sukoon machine at ₹1,899, which is a different category with different obligations attached.
The complete SOSA Diwali ladder
Every band, what it buys, and what it does not. The bottom row of this table is the one I would ask you to read twice, because it is the band most Diwali searches actually start in and the one where SOSA has the least to offer.
| Band | What it buys at SOSA | How long it lasts | Right for | Reed? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹749–₹949 · the real gift | The five reeds ₹749–₹849 · Boond ₹899 · candle two-pack ₹664 · woodenwick ₹949 · 6ml attars ₹669–₹699 | 6–8 weeks on a 50ml reed | Almost every Diwali relationship. The commercial centre of the range | Yes — the whole line |
| ₹1,249–₹1,499 · substantial | 130ml reeds ₹1,249–₹1,349 · 12ml attars ₹1,149–₹1,199 · Day & Night duo ₹1,498 | 14–18 weeks on a 130ml | In-laws, a household you are thanking, a two-person gift | Yes — 130ml and the first duo |
| ₹1,548–₹1,899 · premium | Fresh & Grounded duo ₹1,548 · Warmth & Bloom duo ₹1,598 · Sukoon ₹1,899 | Two bottles at 6–8 weeks each | The gift that is doing more work than a gift usually does | Yes — duos are two 50ml bottles, never a boxed set |
| ₹379–₹499 · the token | Jar candles ₹379 · Sandalwood and Smoked Oudh ₹449 · wax melts ₹474 · mugs ₹474 · car perfumes ₹449–₹509 · 3ml attars ₹379–₹399 · solid perfumes ₹459–₹549 | ~15–18 hours a candle, ~30–36 across a two-pack | Neighbours, long lists, courtesy gifts, ₹500-a-head arithmetic | No. There is no reed and no machine in this band at all |
| Below ₹379 | Nothing giftable. The only sub-₹300 item on the store is the Hotel Collection 15ml at ₹299, which is a refill for an ultrasonic machine and does nothing without hardware the recipient almost certainly does not own | Not applicable | Nobody. This is below the floor for a gift somebody keeps | No |

Everything SOSA does not sell, gathered in one place
This cluster runs to a hundred pages and each one of them names its own honest gap in passing. Here they all are together, because a buyer planning a Diwali list deserves the whole list of refusals at the start rather than one at a time. None of these is a temporary shortage. They are things that do not exist at SOSA, and knowing that now is what stops you planning around something imaginary.
There is no reed diffuser below ₹749 and no machine below ₹899. Not a smaller bottle, not a travel size, not an entry version — the cheapest reed is Morning Freshness 50ml at ₹749 and the cheapest machine is the Boond at ₹899. The ₹299 Hotel Collection 15ml is a refill for an ultrasonic machine and never a standalone gift; it does nothing at all for a recipient who does not own the hardware, and it is the only sub-₹300 item on the store. There is no gift set, gift box, hamper or curated collection. A duo is two 50ml bottles at ₹1,498–₹1,598 and that is precisely what arrives. There is no gift card, so it is not available as a fallback for "I do not know their taste" — the answer to that problem is Evening Calm, not a voucher. There is no gift wrap, gift note or personalisation of any verified kind, and I would rather you knew before you ordered than after.
There is no room spray or home spray — every SOSA spray is a car perfume, ₹449–₹509 for the 12ml and ₹1,499 for the 50ml, and they are excellent at what they are for. There is no oud, sandalwood, vetiver or amber reed diffuser, which is a real gap in an Indian market where those are exactly the registers a certain kind of household will name — but the Smoked Oudh and Sandalwood scented candles at ₹449 do exist, so the honest phrasing is "no oud reed", never "no oud". There is no hotel-inspired reed: those scents are water-based and ultrasonic-only, and reed oil and machine oil are not interchangeable in either direction. There is no published bulk programme — no rate, no band, no invoicing scheme, no branding, no minimum, no lead time — and for anything above roughly twenty-five units the honest route is to write through the contact page before ordering, because availability by scent varies and a large mixed-scent order is easier to fill than a large single-scent one. And there is no delivery-date promise anywhere on this site: if the gift has to be physically in somebody's hands on a particular day, buy locally. Free shipping above ₹499 is the only logistics fact I will state, and it is a real one.
Where mithai is genuinely the better gift, and I would not pretend otherwise
This is the closing page of a hundred, so let me be unambiguous about the thing this cluster has been careful about throughout. Mithai is not a default that a fragrance improves upon. For a great many Diwali exchanges it is the form the greeting itself takes, and substituting anything for it reads as a small refusal of the ritual rather than as thoughtfulness. A first visit to elders. A household where sweets are expected and their absence would be noticed. A neighbour you are greeting rather than gifting. A vendor, a driver, a security desk. A doorstep exchange that is half the point of the week. In every one of those, take the sweets — and take them as the correct gift, not the easy one.
Where a home fragrance earns its place is a narrower and quite specific case, and it is about arithmetic rather than about taste. In a household with a normal circle, several near-identical boxes arrive through one door inside a single week and most are quietly passed on by the weekend. A reed diffuser is not competing with what mithai means; it is competing with the seventh box. It carries no dietary exposure, so nobody has to check it against a fast, a diagnosis or a child's allergy. It needs no size and no personalisation. Nobody has ever received two. And six to eight weeks later it is still running, which is the plain and unromantic reason a fragrance is remembered when a consumable is not. Both of those things are true at once, and the whole value of deciding budget first, quantity second and fragrance last is that it forces you to answer the prior question — which of the two jobs you are actually doing — before you spend anything.
The complete Diwali 2026 edit — and the gap
The whole range as it applies to a Diwali list, in the order I would buy it, ending with the refusals collected into a single row so that they cannot be missed. If you read nothing else on this page, read the first row and the last.
| Buy | What it is | When it is the right answer | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Evening Calm 50ml ★ | Kashmir lavender and chamomile, 8.9 — the softest and least culturally loaded scent we make | The default for most Diwali lists. One per recipient | ₹799 |
| 2. Morning Freshness 50ml | Malabar lemon, peppermint, eucalyptus — the cheapest reed and the least argued-about register | Once the list is long enough for fifty rupees to be multiplied | ₹749 |
| 3. Mountain Breeze 50ml | Himalayan pine, sage, cedar — least gendered, least sweet register in the line | The person everybody says is impossible to buy for; a father; a study | ₹849 |
| 4. Day & Night duo | Two 50ml bottles — bright and soft. Not a boxed set, and there is no box | A two-person gift, in-laws, or hedging when you cannot ask | ₹1,498 |
| 5. Smoked Oudh / Sandalwood candle | Single 80g scented candles in the two registers the reed line does not have | Any per-head figure of ₹500 or below, where no reed exists | ₹449 |
| The complete honest gap: every refusal in one row | No reed below ₹749 · no machine below ₹899 · the ₹299 Hotel Collection 15ml is a machine refill, not a gift · no gift set, box, hamper or curated collection · no gift card · no gift wrap, note or personalisation · no room spray, every SOSA spray is a car perfume · no oud, sandalwood, vetiver or amber reed, though the ₹449 Smoked Oudh and Sandalwood candles exist · no hotel-inspired reed · no published bulk rate, band, scheme, branding, minimum or lead time · no delivery-date promise | Stated once, plainly, so that nothing on your list is planned around something that does not exist. If the gift must be in hand on a particular day, buy locally | — |
Versailles
This is the last page of a hundred written for this season, and I want to use it to say the thing the other ninety-nine have been circling. The most useful writing we have done this year is the writing about what we do not sell. There is no reed under ₹749. There is no gift set. There is no bulk rate. There is no delivery promise. Every one of those sentences costs us orders in the week it is published, and every one of them is why somebody writes back a year later and buys something.
I trained at ISIPCA and I came home to build a house that makes five reed diffusers rather than fifty, on a heat-stable CCT carrier instead of the DPG that goes bitter in a Delhi May, with fibre reeds instead of rattan because rattan clogs in our humidity. Those decisions are the reason a bottle runs six to eight weeks rather than a fortnight. They are also the reason the cheapest one is ₹749 and not ₹299, and I would rather explain that than pretend the floor is somewhere it is not.
So, the whole guide in three lines. Work out the money across the list before you look at anything. Count the names, and count only the rooms in your own home where you actually stand still. Then choose the fragrance, last, and choose the quiet one — Evening Calm at ₹799 if you cannot ask the person, Morning Freshness at ₹749 if the list is long. And if the occasion is one where sweets are what the greeting is made of, take the sweets. I have never once been sorry to say that. Everything is made in Pune, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.
