Which size? The 50ML. SOSA's published rule gives bedrooms and home offices up to about 150 sq ft to the 50ML, running 6 to 8 weeks, and a spare bedroom is almost always under that.
What if they want something brighter than pine and cedar? Morning Freshness at ₹749, lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus, which also publishes a 3-reed softer setting for a sealed room.
2. Buy Mountain Breeze at ₹849. Mountain Breeze is Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar, and its page states that projection is set for compact bedroom and study scale, not open-plan villas. A converted bedroom is both of those things at once.
3. It is also the published anti-floral gift. SOSA publishes it as a gift for the person who refuses anything floral, sweet or fragranced, which makes it a sensible choice when you are buying for a room rather than for a known taste.
4. Know the trade-off before you buy. Mountain Breeze publishes no 3-reed softer setting. Only Morning Freshness and Garden Bloom do. So Mountain Breeze arrives at full strength, and the only way to soften it is to take reeds out yourself.
5. Put it on a shelf, not on the desk. In a small sealed room the bottle does not need to be near the person. The far wall, out of direct sunlight and away from the AC airflow, is enough.
And a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
What a converted bedroom actually is
A spare bedroom that has become an office is not a small office. It is a small bedroom that now contains a desk, and almost everything about how it handles fragrance comes from the bedroom, not from the desk. It has one window rather than two. It has a door that closes properly, because bedrooms do. It has soft furnishings that hold scent, or it had them until last month. And it is small, because in most Indian flats the spare room is the one that got the leftover square footage.
That is genuinely good news for a gifter, because the hardest part of buying home fragrance for somebody else is guessing the room size, and here you already know it. A room built to hold a bed and a cupboard is a room under the threshold SOSA publishes. You are buying one 50ML bottle. The only open question is which scent.
The one scent calibrated for this exact scale
SOSA publishes Mountain Breeze for the bedroom, the home office, the yoga room, the meditation corner, the library and the study, which is the most office-weighted room list in the range. Its published office line is "Home Office - Focus without the caffeine crash", and that is the brand's positioning for the scent rather than a claim I am making about anybody's working day. In my own voice, the description is simpler: Himalayan pine, sage and Indian cedar with a soft eucalyptus edge, dry rather than sweet, and woody rather than floral.
It is also, in SOSA's own words, the gift for the person who refuses anything floral, sweet or fragranced. That is unusually useful in this particular gifting situation. Somebody who has just built themselves a working room has probably not thought about fragrance at all, and a dry woody scent is the least likely of the five to read as a decorative choice somebody else made for them.
A shut door and an AC change how scent behaves
The practical difference between a converted bedroom and a proper study is ventilation. A study in a larger house tends to open onto something. A spare bedroom has one window, one door that stays shut for calls, and an air conditioner recirculating the same air all afternoon. Scent accumulates in a room like that in a way it never does in a living room, which is why the sealed-room case argues for less bottle rather than more.
There is one honest gap in the Mountain Breeze recommendation, and I would rather you heard it from me. It publishes no 3-reed setting. Across the whole reed range, only Morning Freshness and Garden Bloom publish 3 reeds as the softer option, so Mountain Breeze comes with one published setting: all 6 reeds. You can certainly take reeds out, and in a very small sealed room I would, but you would be doing that on your own judgement and not on the brand's instruction. If you would rather the quiet setting be the published one, buy Morning Freshness at ₹749 instead and start it on three.
| Factor | Mountain Breeze ₹849 | Morning Freshness ₹749 |
|---|---|---|
| Character | Himalayan pine, sage, Indian cedar. Dry and woody | Malabar lemon, peppermint, eucalyptus. Bright and clean |
| Published scale | Projection set for compact bedroom and study scale | Mild-medium, bright enough to read in a bathroom or kitchen |
| Sealed AC room | Published as designed for sealed AC bedrooms | Published as not overloading sealed bedrooms |
| Softer setting | None published. Arrives at 6 reeds | 3 reeds is the published softer option |
| As a gift | The published anti-floral gift, for someone who refuses sweet scents | The safer bet if you have no idea what they like |

Why this reads as a congratulations and a notebook does not
A notebook or a desk organiser congratulates somebody on working. A room fragrance congratulates them on having a room, which is actually what happened. The whole point of converting the spare bedroom was to stop working at the dining table, and the thing worth marking is the separation, not the stationery.
It is worth saying plainly, though, that a scent for a room somebody works in all day is a bolder gift than a notebook. A notebook can go in a drawer. A fragrance in a small sealed room cannot be ignored and cannot be switched off, and for the 6 to 8 weeks a 50ML lasts it is simply there. That is exactly why the small bottle and the room-scale scent are the right answer here, and why the biggest bottle would be the wrong one.
The SOSA edit for a small converted room
All five SOSA reeds are alcohol-free, flame-free, need no power point and use 6 fibre reeds in a refillable glass bottle. For a converted bedroom, two of them carry both a bedroom line and a home-office line, which is the combination this room needs.
| Reed | What SOSA publishes for it | Why it suits a converted bedroom | 50ML |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mountain Breeze | Bedroom, home office, yoga, meditation, library, study. Projection set for compact bedroom and study scale | The only reed whose page names this room's scale in its own words, and the published anti-floral gift. No softer reed setting published | ₹849 |
| Morning Freshness | Bathroom, bedroom morning routine, home office, kitchen. Rated mild-medium | The brighter option, and the one that publishes 3 reeds as a softer setting, which matters in a sealed room | ₹749 |
| Reed diffuser refills | Ideal for one diffuser in a bedroom, bathroom or study you want to keep running all year | All five scents, 300ML ₹2,399 or 500ML ₹3,499, and cheaper per ml than buying another bottle | 300ML ₹2,399 |
Versailles
My first working room was a spare bedroom with a bed still in it, and for about a year I treated it like an office and it kept behaving like a bedroom. Small, one window, door shut, AC on. Everything I put in there was too much for the first fortnight.
Mountain Breeze is the one I would send into that room now, and not because it is the newest thing we make. It is because its projection was set for exactly that scale, and because pine and cedar in a small dry room behave like a room rather than like a product.
If your friend has just carved an office out of a spare bedroom, the 50ML is the whole gift. Put it across the room from them, not on the desk. And a girl gets a classroom through Nanhi Kali.
