★ What premium actually looks like in this range
✓ Premium is appropriate where the relationship is long and nothing commercial is live. Where either of those fails, the same money spent is read as something other than thanks. ✓ The duos are two full bottles in one box; the trio is three attars. Both are considered gifts rather than large ones, which is the correct kind of premium here. ✓ Made in India · independent, not affiliated with any hotel · a portion funds girl-child education

There is a version of the mentor gift where spending more is right, and it is narrower than most people want it to be. Two conditions have to hold at once: the relationship has run long enough to carry it, and nothing professional is still being decided between you. Miss either and premium reads wrong.
Quick answers — read this first
When is a premium gift appropriate for a mentor? When the relationship is long and nothing commercial is still live. A mentorship of several years, with somebody who no longer rates you, hires you, invests in you or signs anything of yours, can carry a considered gift without the recipient having to interpret it. In that case the natural form is a reed duo at ₹1,498 to ₹1,598, a 130ml duo at ₹2,498 to ₹2,598, or the attar trio at ₹1,055 for three 3ml bottles. If either condition fails, spend less and write more.

When is a premium gift to a mentor a mistake? Whenever they can still decide something about you. A manager in your reporting line, a professor who grades you, an investor on your cap table, a client, a recruiter, or anybody whose employer sets a value limit on what staff may accept. In all of those a costly gift collects a second meaning the moment it arrives, and the person receiving it has to deal with that meaning rather than with your thanks. It is also wrong for a short relationship, where generosity ahead of familiarity simply makes the recipient uncomfortable.

What does premium mean in the SOSA range for a mentor? Two forms, and neither is a machine. A reed duo is two full bottles in one box — ₹1,498 to ₹1,598 for two 50ml, ₹2,498 to ₹2,598 for two 130ml — and it suits a home with more than one room in use. The attar trio is three bottles of three different blends: ₹1,055 for 3ml each, ₹1,859 for 6ml, ₹3,189 for 12ml, and it hands the choosing back to the person who has to wear it. Both read as considered rather than costly, which is the kind of premium this relationship takes.
The short answer
Short answer: Only where the relationship is long and nothing professional is still live between you. In that case premium means a reed duo at ₹1,498 to ₹1,598, a 130ml duo at ₹2,498 upward, or the attar trio from ₹1,055. Where a reporting line, a grade, a contract or a cap table exists, spend less and write more; costly reads as something other than thanks.
The pick: SOSA Day and Night Reed Duo at ₹1,498 for two 50ml bottles — one bright, one quiet, for a home with more than one room in use.
Next step: Tell us how long you have known them and whether anything is still live between you, and we will say honestly whether premium fits. Ask SOSA to help choose a gift.
Premium, but only in the narrow caseLong relationship, and nothing still being decidedA reporting line rules premium out entirelySo does a grade, a contract or a cap tableA duo is two bottles; a trio is three attarsConsidered reads better than costly, every time
Two conditions, and both have to hold. Most mentor relationships meet one of them, which is why most mentor gifts should be small and why this page is shorter on shopping than it looks.
Straight answer
When is a premium fragrance gift right for a mentor, and when is it wrong?
Two conditions, and both have to hold. The first is length: the relationship has to have run long enough that a considered gift is proportionate to it rather than ahead of it. A mentorship of five or ten years, somebody who sat with you through a bad stretch, a person you have gone back to repeatedly — those carry it. One good year of advice does not, and generosity that runs ahead of familiarity is uncomfortable to receive, which is the opposite of what you intended. The second is independence. Nothing professional can still be running between you. If they rate your work, sign your appraisal, grade your thesis, sit on your board, hold shares in your company, buy from you, sell to you, or might be asked for a reference next quarter, a costly gift collects a second meaning the instant it lands. The person receiving it then has to deal with that meaning instead of with your thanks, and many will simply be obliged to decline, because plenty of employers set a written value limit and the limits are strictest exactly where the relationship is most commercial. Where both conditions do hold, premium here is a form rather than a price. A reed duo is two full bottles in one box: ₹1,498 to ₹1,598 for two 50ml, ₹2,498 to ₹2,598 for two 130ml, which suits a home with more than one room in use and lets somebody run a bright register in the day and a quieter one in the evening. The attar trio is three different blends — ₹1,055 for three 3ml bottles, ₹1,859 for 6ml, ₹3,189 for 12ml — and its real advantage is that it hands the choosing back to the person who has to wear it, which solves the taste problem that makes a single worn fragrance risky. What premium does not mean here is a machine. We make ultrasonic diffusers and they are good, but a device somebody has to fill, switch on and maintain is a chore handed over as a present, and a mentor who did not ask for it will not thank you for the cleaning. And premium never means skipping the letter. A duo with no written account of what their advice changed is a smaller gift than a ₹749 reed with one. If you are unsure which side of the line you are on, ask us to help choose a gift.
Premium needs a long relationship and nothing still being decided between you. Where both hold, a duo or the trio; where either fails, something small and a better letter.
The form I suggest most often at this level is the SOSA Day and Night Reed Duo at ₹1,498 — two 50ml bottles in one box, one bright register and one quiet one, for a home rather than an office.

What to actually buy, by budget

Sizing matters more at this level, not less. A 50ml duo gives two rooms a bottle each; a 130ml duo suits a large home and is genuinely a lot of fragrance for one person. The 3ml trio is small in volume and generous in range, which is why it often beats a bigger single bottle. And nothing here needs power or a plug point.

The duo I would send
SOSA Day & Night Reed Duo
Morning Freshness and Evening Calm together - one bright, one quiet - as 2 x 50ml (₹1,498) or 2 x 130ml (₹2,498). Two rooms, or one room and a change of register in the evening.

Three things that decide it

Two tests that decide whether premium is available at all, and one note on what it should not be.

1
Test one, the length
A considered gift has to be proportionate to the relationship
Premium is a statement about how long and how much, and the recipient reads it that way whether or not you meant it to be read at all. A mentorship of several years can carry it: somebody who kept taking your calls, who talked you out of a bad decision more than once, who is now a fixture in how you work. A relationship of one course, one project or one good year cannot, and a gift that runs ahead of familiarity does not read as generous so much as puzzling. The test I would apply is simple. If you can write four specific sentences about separate occasions when their advice changed what you did, the relationship is long enough. If you can only write one, buy the ₹749 reed and write that one sentence properly.
Tip: Length of relationship, not size of debt. Plenty of enormous debts were incurred in a single conversation, and they still do not call for a duo.
2
Test two, the independence
Anything still live between you rules premium out
This is the test people skip, and it is the one that actually causes trouble. If the person can decide something about you — a rating, a promotion, a grade, a reference, a contract, a round, a hire — then a costly gift arrives carrying a question, and the question is not one you can answer in a card. Many organisations remove the choice entirely by setting a written value limit on what staff may accept, with the tightest limits in banking, consulting, government, procurement and anywhere a supplier relationship exists. A gift that has to be declared, logged or returned is a worse outcome than a small one, and it puts the recipient in exactly the position you were thanking them for keeping you out of. Wait until the relationship is clear of all of it. Then premium is available.

What premium is not
Not a machine, and never a substitute for the letter
We make ultrasonic diffusers and I am glad we do, but I would not send one to a mentor. A machine has to be filled, switched on, cleaned and remembered, and handing somebody a maintenance job is a strange way to thank them for their time. It also occupies a plug point and a decision in a room that was not asking for either. The second thing premium is not is a replacement for writing. A duo arriving with a printed card is a smaller gift than a 50ml reed arriving with four specific sentences about what their advice changed, and I would say that to anybody about to spend ₹2,598 to avoid an evening of writing. Spend at this level only when you have already written the letter and the object is genuinely additional.
The SOSA principle
Premium is a statement about the relationship. A gift that makes a statement the relationship cannot support is uncomfortable to receive, however generously it was meant.
That is a remark about proportion, and we make no claim that any gift at any price changes how a mentor regards the person who sent it.
SOSA Day & Night Reed Duo
The premium default: The Day and Night duo at ₹1,498 for two 50ml bottles — one bright register, one quiet one, for a home.

Where the line sits, and what premium means on each side of it

The two sides of the line, set out plainly, because this is the page where getting it wrong costs the most.

The SOSA plan
Where premium applies, and where it does not
The situation What to do
SOSA Day & Night Reed DuoA mentorship of many years, now entirely informal
Premium is available. A reed duo from ₹1,498, or the attar trio from ₹1,055.
A manager, professor or supervisor still in your line
No. Keep it under ₹1,000 and put the effort into the letter instead.
An investor, client, supplier or recruiter
No, and often nothing physical at all. A written account and a public credit instead.
Two years of good advice, no commercial link
A 130ml reed at ₹1,249 to ₹1,349. Considered, without overstating what the relationship is.

If you are not sure premium applies, the general case is in best gift ideas for a mentor, and the situation where they visibly need nothing is handled in a mentor who already has everything. SOSA is an independent Indian brand; nothing here is affiliated with any perfume house, designer or employer.

SOSA Attar Trio
When the gift should be worn: The Attar Trio, ₹1,055 for three 3ml bottles or ₹1,859 for 6ml. Three blends, so the taste call stays with them.
Premium, where the relationship carries it

Generosity that runs ahead of familiarity is not generosity to the person receiving it. It is a bill they did not know they had opened.

What to actually buy

One considered gift, chosen only once both tests are passed, and sent with something written rather than instead of it. Nothing here needs power, filling, cleaning or a plug point, which matters when the gift is going to somebody who did not ask for a new chore. Everything is made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Three limits. Premium needs both tests passed — a long relationship, and nothing professional still live — and failing either one means spending less rather than spending carefully. I would not send a mentor an ultrasonic machine at any price, because it is a maintenance job dressed as a present. And a duo without a letter is a smaller gift than a ₹749 reed with one. We make no promise about delivery timing, gift wrapping or personalisation.

A note from Sonal

I am wary of this page, because premium is the easiest thing to sell and the easiest thing to get wrong. People arrive wanting to spend, and the spending is usually standing in for something they find harder to do, which is to sit down and write what the person actually changed. So I will say the unhelpful commercial thing first: for most mentor relationships, the right answer is not on this page.

Where it does belong is narrower than it sounds. Years, not months. Nobody deciding anything about anybody. A relationship that has already survived one of you leaving a job. If that describes yours, a duo or the trio is a good gift and I would send it without hesitation, because at that point the object is not being asked to do any work the letter should be doing.

Beyond that, the ordinary disclosures. This is an ambience decision and not a claim of any kind — nothing therapeutic, nothing medical, and nothing about what a gift does to a relationship, because what it means belongs to whoever receives it. No product here masks or covers a smell in a room, and the owner of the room decides where a reed sits and whether they use it. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

When is a premium gift right for a mentor?
When two things are true at once: the relationship has run for years, and nothing professional is still being decided between you. No reporting line, no grade, no contract, no cap table, no pending reference. In that case a reed duo at Rs 1,498 to Rs 1,598 or the attar trio at Rs 1,055 is proportionate.
When is a premium gift to a mentor wrong?
Whenever the person can still decide something about you, and whenever the relationship is short. A costly gift from somebody whose work they rate, grade, fund or buy arrives carrying a question. Many employers also set a written value limit, so the recipient may have to declare or return it, which is a worse outcome than a small gift.
What counts as premium in the SOSA range?
A reed duo, which is two full bottles in one box at Rs 1,498 to Rs 1,598 for 50ml and Rs 2,498 to Rs 2,598 for 130ml, or the attar trio at Rs 1,055 for three 3ml bottles, Rs 1,859 for 6ml and Rs 3,189 for 12ml. Considered rather than large, which is the right kind of premium here.
Should I send a mentor a diffuser machine instead?
I would not. A machine has to be filled, switched on and cleaned, which hands somebody a small ongoing chore as a present. A reed duo does the same job passively, with no power and nothing to switch on, and it does not occupy a plug point in a room that was not asking for one.
Does premium replace the written note?
No, and it is the mistake this page exists to prevent. A duo arriving with a printed card is a smaller gift than a Rs 749 reed arriving with four specific sentences about what their advice changed. Spend at this level only once the letter is written, and treat the object as genuinely additional.
SOSA Warmth & Bloom Reed Duo
For a home that runs warm and traditional: Warmth and Bloom, ₹1,598 for two 50ml — Coorg coffee with vanilla, and British rose with night jasmine.
