Deal with the room first
A living room is the hardest room to scent well, and the most common reason it has no pleasant smell is not a lack of fragrance - it is the soft furnishings quietly holding onto everything. Sofas, rugs, cushions and curtains are big fabric surfaces that soak up cooking, damp, pets and stale air, and they release it slowly back into the room. Adding fragrance on top of that just muddles.
So start here: vacuum the sofa and rugs, wash or air the cushion covers and throws, take curtains down for a wash or a good airing, and open windows on two sides for a proper cross-breeze. This clears the dull, held-in staleness that a fragrance can never truly beat. If you can smell a specific source - damp, a bin, a pet spot - fix that too. Only once the base air is truly fresh does it make sense to scent the room.
I say this on every guide because it is honest: fragrance freshens, it does not remove a source. Trying to cover a real smell with scent gives you both smells at once. Ventilate and clean first, and then a scent lands beautifully.

Versailles
I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, but half the questions we get are not about scent at all - they are about the machine.
