Founder Diaries · Reed Diffusers
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 9 min read Updated August 2026
Every SOSA reed diffuser lasts exactly as long as every other SOSA reed diffuser of the same size. That is the least interesting sentence in this piece and the most useful one, because it removes a decision people spend real time on. Six to eight weeks at 50ml, fourteen to eighteen at 130ml, for all five blends — so what is left to choose is which smell you want in the room, and that is the choice worth spending your time on.
Quick answers — read this first
The numbers: every SOSA 50ml runs 6–8 weeks and every 130ml 14–18, on six fibre reeds in a room up to about 150 sq ft.

Per week at 130ml: ₹78 for Morning Freshness at ₹1,249 up to ₹84 for Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew at ₹1,349. A spread of about ₹6.

Cheapest running cost: a 300ml refill at ₹2,399 — roughly two 130ml fills, about ₹75 a week.
The short answer
Short answer: All five SOSA reed diffusers last 6 to 8 weeks in 50ml and 14 to 18 weeks in 130ml, using all six fibre reeds in a room up to about 150 sq ft. 50ml prices run ₹749 to ₹849; 130ml prices run ₹1,249 to ₹1,349.
Per week: At the middle of each band, a 50ml is ₹107 to ₹121 a week depending on the blend, and a 130ml is ₹78 to ₹84. The whole 130ml range therefore sits inside a ₹6 spread — far too small to choose a four-month scent on.
What changes the number: Not the fragrance. Reed count first — four reeds takes a 130ml past twenty weeks — then draught, then heat, then how often you flip. Every published figure assumes six reeds.
Straight answer
How long does each SOSA reed diffuser last, and what does each cost per week?
1. 50ml: six to eight weeks, whichever blend. Morning Freshness ₹749, Evening Calm and Garden Bloom ₹799, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew ₹849. At the seven-week middle that is about ₹107, ₹114 and ₹121 a week respectively.

2. 130ml: fourteen to eighteen weeks, whichever blend. ₹1,249, ₹1,299 and ₹1,349 across the same five. At the sixteen-week middle that is about ₹78, ₹81 and ₹84 a week — a spread of ₹6 across the entire range.

3. Both figures assume six fibre reeds and about 150 sq ft. Six reeds is full output. Four reeds in a bedroom takes a 130ml to roughly twenty to twenty-four weeks; two or three in a small bathroom can carry a 50ml close to three months.

4. The duos save ₹50 and change nothing about the life. The Day & Night duo is ₹1,498 in 50ml against ₹1,548 bought separately, and ₹2,498 in 130ml against ₹2,548. Each bottle still runs its own full band — about ₹78 a week per room at 130ml.

5. Refilling is the cheapest way to keep going. A 300ml refill at ₹2,399 is about ₹8 a millilitre against ₹9.60 for a new 130ml, filling that bottle roughly twice — about 32 weeks for around ₹75 a week. The 500ml at ₹3,499 is about ₹7 a millilitre.

Made in India, composed by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer — and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: all five last the same: 6 to 8 weeks at 50ml and 14 to 18 at 130ml, on six reeds in a room up to about 150 sq ft. Per week that is ₹107 to ₹121 at 50ml and ₹78 to ₹84 at 130ml. Choose the blend by room and by what you want to smell, because the price difference works out at about ₹6 a week.
SOSA reed diffusers, five scents
Five blends, made in Pune
The SOSA reed range From ₹749
Morning Freshness, Evening Calm, Garden Bloom, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew — 50ml from ₹749 for 6–8 weeks, 130ml from ₹1,249 for 14–18, each in refillable glass with six fibre reeds and rated to about 150 sq ft. Phthalate-free, composed to IFRA standards, made in India.

Why the fragrance makes no difference to the clock

People reasonably assume a heavier, richer scent must sit in the bottle longer than a bright citrus one, and it is a fair thought — the individual molecules do differ in volatility. But what empties a reed diffuser is not the character of the composition; it is the total volume of liquid moving up six identical fibre reeds through an identical neck into the same room. The bottles, the reeds and the openings are the same across the range, so the clock is the same across the range. That is why SOSA publishes one band per size rather than five. What the differences between blends do change is how the room feels at a given reed count — Morning Freshness stays clearly audible on two or three reeds where Evening Calm becomes very discreet — but that is a strength question, not a longevity one.

The price steps are equally easy to explain and equally unrelated to lifespan. ₹749 and ₹1,249 for Morning Freshness, ₹799 and ₹1,299 for Evening Calm and Garden Bloom, ₹849 and ₹1,349 for Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew: the differences reflect what is in the bottle rather than how fast it leaves. Run them through the same division and the whole 130ml range lands between about ₹78 and ₹84 a week — six rupees separating the cheapest from the dearest. Two SOSA-specific details are worth knowing because they genuinely do affect what you get. The reeds are fibre rather than rattan, which wicks more evenly and more predictably; and the glass is designed to be refilled, so the running cost after the first bottle is lower than the sticker suggests.

The three decisions the numbers leave you

1
DECISION ONE · WHICH SIZE
₹107 a week or ₹78
SOSA reed diffuserSOSA reedsFrom ₹749A 50ml gives you six to eight weeks for ₹749 to ₹849 — roughly ₹107 to ₹121 a week — and is the right size for testing a scent, for a small bathroom on two or three reeds, and for gifting. A 130ml gives you fourteen to eighteen weeks for ₹1,249 to ₹1,349, or roughly ₹78 to ₹84 a week, and is the right size for any room you live in. Both are rated to about the same 150 sq ft: the larger bottle lasts longer, it does not reach further. If a room is bigger than that, buy two bottles and place them apart.
Same coverage, different clock. Volume buys weeks, not area.
2
DECISION TWO · WHICH BLEND
Six rupees a week is not a decision
Since the longevity is identical and the weekly cost varies by about ₹6 at 130ml, choose entirely on the room. Morning Freshness is bright and cool and belongs in a bathroom or kitchen. Evening Calm is soft and herbal and belongs beside a bed. Garden Bloom is floral and dressed and suits a living or dining room. Mountain Breeze is dry, green and grounded — the safest choice for a hall or a shared space where somebody else did not get a vote. Fresh Brew is warm and roasted and is a study or a winter sitting room rather than a bedroom. A blend you merely tolerate, running continuously for four months, is the most expensive purchase available here whatever it cost.
Undecided? Two 50ml bottles first, then a 130ml of whichever won.
3
DECISION THREE · DUO OR REFILL
What the range does for two rooms and for year two
The duos pair two blends at ₹50 less than buying the same two bottles separately, and change nothing about how long either lasts. Day & Night pairs Morning Freshness with Evening Calm at ₹1,498 in 50ml or ₹2,498 in 130ml; Warmth & Bloom pairs Fresh Brew with Garden Bloom at ₹1,598 or ₹2,598; Fresh & Grounded pairs Morning Freshness with Mountain Breeze at ₹1,548 or ₹2,548. For the long run, a 300ml refill at ₹2,399 fills a 130ml roughly twice and a 500ml at ₹3,499 close to four times — about ₹75 and ₹58 a week respectively.

The SOSA principle
Five blends that smell nothing alike and empty at exactly the same speed.
Same glass, same six fibre reeds, same neck. The composition changes the room, not the clock.

Reeds, placement and flipping — the three things you control

Six fibre reeds come with every SOSA bottle, and every figure on this page assumes all six are in. Use them all in a hall, an entrance, a living room or a kitchen of about 200 sq ft. Use four in a standard bedroom, where a 130ml then runs roughly twenty to twenty-four weeks. Use two or three in a bathroom of around 50 sq ft, where a 50ml can run close to three months. Fibre rather than rattan matters here: the core is more porous and wicks more consistently, which is why the bands are as narrow as they are. Give any new setting forty-eight hours.

Placement decides which end of the band you land on. Still interior positions preserve weeks and reach less far; doorways and hallways perform and empty faster. Choose knowingly. Three placements are wrong for every blend and every size: direct sunlight, which fades the fragrance and warms the oil; the direct blast of an AC vent or a ceiling fan, which empties the bottle and pushes the scent onto one wall; and bare polished wood or untreated stone, because reed oil marks a finish permanently if the bottle is knocked. Stand it on a tray, keep it out of reach of children and pets, never decant it, and never top up a part-full bottle with a different SOSA scent — the reeds are already carrying the first one.

Flip the reeds saturated-end up every three to five days, not daily, and expect to change the reeds before you change the liquid. After two or three months the heavier, less volatile molecules saturate the fibre and wicking slows, so throw drops while oil remains — a fresh set restores it. Six come with every bottle and every refill, which is exactly why fitting new ones at each refill is the pattern rather than an extra purchase. The 300ml at ₹2,399 fills a 130ml roughly twice; the 500ml at ₹3,499 goes close to four fills.

Choose the one you want to live with. They all cost the same in weeks.

What to buy

Every SOSA reed diffuser, both sizes, with the per-week figure worked out at each end of the band. Divide the price by the weeks and you get these numbers; there is no other arithmetic involved.

The SOSA longevity table
All five blends, both sizes, costed per week
Blend 50ml · 6–8 weeks Per week 130ml · 14–18 weeks Per week
Morning Freshness ★ ₹749 ₹94–₹125 ₹1,249 ₹69–₹89
Evening Calm ₹799 ₹100–₹133 ₹1,299 ₹72–₹93
Garden Bloom ₹799 ₹100–₹133 ₹1,299 ₹72–₹93
Mountain Breeze ₹849 ₹106–₹142 ₹1,349 ₹75–₹96
Fresh Brew ₹849 ₹106–₹142 ₹1,349 ₹75–₹96
Beyond the bottle: the 300ml refill at ₹2,399 fills a 130ml roughly twice — about 32 weeks, or ₹75 a week — and the 500ml at ₹3,499 goes close to four fills, about ₹58 a week. Fresh reeds go in at every refill.
Honest notes before you buy: a reed diffuser is a passive, evaporative system, so it has no off switch and no volume dial — the number of reeds IS the volume control. Six reeds is full strength; three is soft; two to three suits a small bathroom. More reeds means stronger scent AND faster consumption, so a 50ml on six reeds will not reach eight weeks. Heat speeds evaporation and air-conditioning slows it, which is why the same bottle behaves differently in a Chennai summer and a Delhi winter. The reeds themselves clog over time as the heavier fragrance molecules saturate the fibre — if throw drops off after several weeks, replace the reeds rather than the liquid. Keep the bottle off polished wood and away from direct sunlight, which fades the fragrance and can mark a surface if it is knocked. These are oil-based reed fragrances and are not interchangeable with the water-based Hotel Collection used in the ultrasonic Sukoon (₹1,899) — the two systems take completely different liquids. SOSA reed diffusers are composed and made in India, in Pune, and are phthalate-free. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
SOSA reed diffuser refills
The running cost, solved
300ml Refill ₹2,399
The glass bottle and collar are the durable part — a 300ml refill at ₹2,399 fills a 130ml roughly twice, and a 500ml at ₹3,499 goes further again. Refilling is also the moment to fit fresh reeds, because clogged fibre is the commonest reason throw drops off after a few months.

A note from Sonal

I get asked which of my five lasts longest often enough that I should probably print the answer on the box. None of them. They are the same glass, the same six fibre reeds and the same neck, and what empties a reed diffuser is volume and evaporation rather than the character of the perfume inside it.

I find that a relief rather than a limitation. It means nobody has to weigh a scent they love against a scent that might last a fortnight longer, because that trade does not exist in this range. The price differences are about what is in the bottle — Himalayan pine and Coorg coffee are not lemon and peppermint — and at a hundred and thirty millilitres they come to about six rupees a week.

So spend your attention on the room. Bright where you want waking, soft where you want settling, dry and green where several people share a space and only one of them chose. Then set the reed count and forget about it for four months. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How long do SOSA reed diffusers last?
Every SOSA 50ml lasts 6 to 8 weeks and every 130ml 14 to 18 weeks, using all six fibre reeds in a room up to about 150 sq ft. 50ml prices are ₹749 to ₹849 and 130ml ₹1,249 to ₹1,349, so per week that is roughly ₹107 to ₹121 and ₹78 to ₹84 at the middle of each band.
Does one SOSA blend last longer than another?
No. All five share the same bottles, the same six fibre reeds and the same bands, because what empties a reed diffuser is volume and evaporation rather than the composition. The ₹50 and ₹100 price steps reflect materials — at 130ml that is a difference of about ₹6 a week.
Which SOSA reed diffuser is the best value?
The 130ml Morning Freshness at ₹1,249, which is about ₹78 a week — the lowest in the range. But the spread to the dearest 130ml is only about ₹6 a week, so buy the blend that suits the room. Cheaper again is refilling: a 300ml refill at ₹2,399 works out at roughly ₹75 a week.
Do the duos last as long as buying two bottles?
Exactly as long — they are the same bottles at a lower combined price. Day & Night is ₹1,498 in 50ml against ₹1,548 separately, and ₹2,498 in 130ml against ₹2,548. Each bottle runs its own full band in its own room, which at 130ml is about ₹78 a week per room.
Can I put SOSA Hotel Collection scents in a reed diffuser?
No, and this comes up often. The seven Hotel Collection fragrances are water-based and made for ultrasonic diffusers such as the Sukoon at ₹1,899. Reed diffusers take oil-based reed fragrance only. There is no reed version of those scents, and the two liquids are never interchangeable — if you want them specifically, the Sukoon is the honest answer.
