There is a ten-minute method for this, and it starts with a pen and the doors rather than with any product.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I plan diffuser placement on a floor plan? Mark every normally closed door first. Those lines divide the plan into zones, each connected zone gets one machine position, and each closed room gets a reed which needs no power.

Why start with the doors? Because a machine distributes through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door. The doors, not the areas, decide how many separate problems the plan contains.

Where in the zone should the machine go? On hard surface, in the path of general air movement, away from the largest soft furnishing and not directly at an air conditioning grille.
The short answer
Short answer: Mark closed doors, split the plan into zones, one machine per zone, a reed in every closed room.
The pick: the SOSA Safar (₹3,999) as the flagship delivery gift; volume gifts from ₹299; reed diffusers from ₹749; the Vaayu (₹11,999) for your own premises.

A customer gift works when it survives the drive home - sweets vanish in a day and keychains join a drawer, but a fragrance is used daily in the customer's own car or living room, replaying your brand at every use. The method: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, brand the gesture with your card, pilot and scale. This guide walks the exact play, with real SOSA options at every band.
Straight answer
How do I plan diffuser placement on a floor plan?
There is a ten-minute method and it starts with a pen and the doors, not with a product. Step one: mark every door that is normally kept closed. Not every door - the ones that are actually shut in daily life: bedrooms, bathrooms, studies, dressing rooms, utility. Step two: those lines divide the plan into zones. A machine distributes through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door, so each zone is a separate problem, and the number of zones - not the square footage - is what decides the specification. Step three: one machine position per connected zone. Usually that is the open living, dining and circulation volume, and usually it is the only machine in the house. Step four: a reed in every closed room - no power, no schedule, no attention, which is exactly what a bedroom or a bathroom wants. Then place the position: hard surface, in the path of air movement, away from the largest soft piece (textiles load over days and that corner gets stronger while the setting stays the same), and not at an AC grille. Height up in stone-floored rooms, because fragrance rises with warm air. Hotel Collection from ₹299, Vaayu ₹11,999, reeds from ₹749. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Mark the doors first, then everything else follows

There is a method for this that takes about ten minutes on a plan and produces a better answer than any amount of discussion about square footage. It starts with a pen and the doors rather than with a product, and the reason is that doors, not areas, decide what a home needs. Step one is to mark every door that is normally kept closed. Not every door on the plan - the ones that are actually shut in daily life. In most Indian homes that is bedrooms, bathrooms, studies, dressing rooms, utility rooms and often a formal room that is only opened for guests. Leave open the doorways that stay open: the living to dining threshold, the passage into the entrance hall, any wide opening without a door at all. Step two is to notice that those lines have divided the plan into zones. This is the whole trick. A machine distributes fragrance through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door, so each zone bounded by closed doors is a separate problem with its own answer. The number of zones, rather than the total square footage, is what decides the specification - which is why we ask for a plan rather than an area, and why the honest answer to many enquiries is not a larger machine but a second point in a room the first one cannot reach. A four-bedroom apartment might be one large connected zone plus seven small closed ones. Step three is that each connected zone gets one machine position. In most homes there is exactly one connected zone of any size - the open living, dining and circulation volume - so there is exactly one machine, and clients are almost always surprised by how few they need rather than how many. If the plan has two genuinely separated open areas, such as a ground floor and an upper landing behind a stair door, that is two zones and two positions. Step four is that each closed room gets a reed diffuser, which needs no power, no scheduling and no attention and runs continuously at a low level - exactly the behaviour a bedroom or a bathroom wants. Garden Bloom and Evening Calm are Rs 799, Morning Freshness Rs 749, and Fresh Brew and Mountain Breeze Rs 849, each bottle lasting three to four months, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml, roughly Rs 200 to Rs 280 per room per month. This is also the step that makes the electrical work almost disappear, because reeds need no socket. Now place the machine position within its zone, using four rules. On hard surface rather than beside a large soft piece, because textiles absorb fragrance while a system runs and release it slowly, so a source next to a velvet sofa, heavy curtains or a wool rug loads that material over days and the corner becomes progressively stronger while the setting has not changed - this is the single most common placement error and clients experience it as the room being too strong in one place and too weak in another. In the path of general air movement, because air is what actually carries fragrance around a room, so a position near a doorway with traffic through it or in the general flow of conditioned air distributes far better than a position in a still corner. Not directly at an air conditioning grille, where it is either pulled away before doing anything in the room or spread far more widely than the position suggests. And higher rather than lower in stone-floored rooms, because stone holds temperature and stays cooler than the air above it, so warm air rises and carries fragrance upward and a source at floor level distributes badly - a console, a shelf or a ledge works far better. There are two positions in any home that deserve priority over everything else, and they should be marked even on a minimal scheme, because they are where fragrance is actually read by other people. The first is the entrance, because a guest arrives with a nose that has not adapted to the house and the first three seconds establish what kind of home it is. The second is the guest bathroom, because it is small, enclosed and entered from air with a different character, so it reads accurately at almost any setting. Both are served perfectly well by reeds, and both produce more of the effect a client is describing than the rest of the house combined. Finally, mark the exclusions on the plan rather than leaving them blank, because a blank space invites a later request. The kitchen is never scented, at any time, since cooking smell is aerosolised oil and extraction is the answer. Children's rooms get no fragrance. A covered terrace, balcony or verandah cannot hold fragrance because the air is not enclosed and it disperses as fast as it is produced, so mark it excluded and say so in the schedule - this is the space clients most often want scented, and the request will come. Staff quarters and utility areas get nothing. And note on the plan that anybody who shares the home and cannot leave a room gets a low neutral register and a physical off switch, not an app-only one. On machines, the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 covers a large open zone - waterless with no tank, coverage up to 1,000 square metres or roughly 10,700 square feet, with Bluetooth app and timer control, which is what makes a low continuous setting practical. The Megh at Rs 3,499 has a 6L tank for a substantial zone, the Sukoon at Rs 1,799 suits a single room and the Boond at Rs 799 a small one. Machines take the water-based Hotel Collection only at three to six drops per tank with a rinse between scents, never reed oil, which can damage them. One register throughout the home, varied by intensity rather than by scent, because two registers meet in doorways constantly. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Volume pricing is quoted against the specification on WhatsApp.

Why this works
The method, in order
1 One: mark every door that is normally kept closed 2 Two: those lines divide the plan into separate zones 3 Three: each connected zone gets one machine position 4 Four: each closed room gets a reed, and needs no power
The flagship delivery gift: the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 - a rechargeable waterless car diffuser with three hotel-inspired scents in the box. Per-unit gifts from ₹299; volume pricing on WhatsApp.
01
Doors before products
Mark every normally closed door
Bedrooms, bathrooms, studies, dressing rooms, utility. Leave the open thresholds open. Those lines divide the plan into zones, and the number of zones decides the specification.
Tip: Not the square footage.
02
One machine per connected zone
Usually there is only one
Most homes have a single connected volume of any size, so there is a single machine, and clients are surprised by how few they need. Every closed room takes a reed, which needs no power.
03
Then place it, by four rules
Hard surface, moving air, off the soft piece, off the grille
A source beside upholstery or a rug loads that material over days, so the corner strengthens while the setting stays the same. That is the most common placement error we correct.
Tip: And higher in stone-floored rooms, because fragrance rises.
The SOSA principle
The number of closed doors decides the specification. The square footage barely matters.
Which is why we ask for a plan, not an area.

The SOSA business gifting edit

Whatever your business gifts, the logic is the same: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, keep the register gentle and crowd-safe, and brand the gesture with your card rather than your logo on the product. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so every customer gift quietly gives twice. Here is the full business range by per-unit band.

Honest notes for business gifters: customer taste varies, so volume programmes should run gentle, crowd-tested registers - fresh, clean and lightly floral scents are received well across every profile, and space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) avoid the personal-taste risk of skin perfume entirely. Listed prices are per-unit store prices; volume pricing, pilot batches, branded cards and custom hamper builds are quoted on WhatsApp - and signature-scent development for your brand is a consultation with our perfumer, not an off-the-shelf item, so timelines are discussed case by case. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with any hotel brand. Ultrasonic diffusers use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil - the two are not interchangeable. All personal fragrances are alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant. WhatsApp bulk desk: +91 96192 18531. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.

And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.

Frequently asked questions

How do I plan diffuser placement on a floor plan?
Mark every normally closed door first. Those lines divide the plan into zones; each connected zone gets one machine position, and each closed room gets a reed.
Why do the doors matter more than the area?
Because a machine distributes through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door. The number of zones, not the square footage, decides the specification.
How many machines does a typical home need?
Usually one. Most homes have a single connected volume of any size, and every room behind a door is better served by a reed, which needs no power.
Where in the room should the machine stand?
On hard surface, in the path of general air movement, away from the largest soft furnishing, and not directly at an air conditioning grille.
Which positions matter most?
The entrance and the guest bathroom, because those are where fragrance is read accurately by visitors. Both are served by reeds. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the customer-gifting advice applies whatever your business finally buys.

Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
