Imaging is the one category where I would put real effort into the first two minutes of a visit and refuse point blank to comment on the forty after it. This page is both halves of that brief, written out in the order I would actually work through them with an owner.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I create a premium arrival in an imaging centre? By treating the arrival as a sequence rather than as a room. There are five moments between the kerb and the moment somebody's name is called, and each one is decided by a different lever: approach and door, threshold, counter, seat, and call. Air is one attribute of two of those five, and it is the cheapest of the levers involved. Work through the sequence in order and you will find most of what needs fixing costs nothing and is already within your control.

And how do I keep the clinical zones neutral? With four mechanisms, none of which is a lower setting. A written exclusion list with a named owner and a review date. Doors between the public volume and the clinical corridor that are closed as routine rather than propped. A single source placed two or three metres back from the corridor mouth and oriented into the seating. And, where you own a machine, a run window that removes the source entirely during your heaviest clinical hours.

What should I actually buy? It depends entirely on the public volume that survives the exclusions, which on an imaging plan is usually a fraction of the lease. Under about 750 sq ft of connected public air, one reed at ₹749-₹849. To roughly 1,500, a reed or a Sukoon at ₹1,899. Past that, the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, and past about 3,000 sq ft of concourse the SOSA Angaan at ₹25,999 where ducting allows.
The short answer
Short answer: Two halves. Design the arrival as a sequence of five moments - approach, threshold, counter, seat and call - and treat air as one attribute of two of them, after light, sound and seating. Then defend the boundary with a written exclusion list, doors that close, a source placed well back from the corridor mouth, and a run window. Buy against the public volume that survives, which is usually a fraction of the lease.
The pick: sized to the public volume only: a reed at ₹749-₹849 under about 750 sq ft, the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 past roughly 1,500, and the SOSA Angaan at ₹25,999 for a genuinely large concourse.
Next step: send the drawing with the clinical rooms shaded and tell us the ceiling height over the seating, and we will write both halves of the brief against your own building - ask for a clinic scenting plan.
Two halves of one briefHalf one: design the arrival as a sequence, not a roomFive moments - approach, threshold, counter, seat, callHalf two: defend the boundary with a list, a door and a distanceBuy against the public volume that survives, never against the leaseThe more valuable half of this costs nothing
If you only do one of the two halves, do the second. It is free, it is written down, and it survives everybody who currently works in the building.
The full ladder, gated by public volume - tap for the specifications
Straight answer
How do the two halves of an imaging brief actually fit together?
By being kept completely separate. The first half is design work that belongs to you, and the second half is a boundary that belongs to somebody else - and the most common failure in this category is letting the ambition of the first leak into the territory of the second. Start with the arrival, and treat it as a sequence rather than as a room. There are five moments between the kerb and the moment a name is called. The approach and the door: what a visitor walks past and pushes through, which is signage, glass, the state of the entrance mat and whether the door works properly. The threshold, the first ninety seconds, where light temperature, sound and air all change at once and the comparison being made is against the lift lobby or the street they just left. The counter, where the interaction is human and the environmental question is whether the desk is calm and legible. The seat, which in imaging holds people far longer than in any other diagnostic setting. And the call, where being told what is happening matters more than anything in the room. Air belongs to two of those five - the threshold and the seat - and within those two it ranks behind light temperature, sound absorption and the seating itself. That is the honest order, and it is why I would rather you changed a 6500K tube for something warmer before you bought anything from me. When you do get to the air, the register is dry, cool and mineral: Mountain Breeze at ₹849 in a metal-and-glass reception, Morning Freshness at ₹749 in a pale, warm one, quiet enough that nobody can name it, and nothing gourmand because contrast studies and linked bloods mean part of your morning is fasting. Now the second half, which is shorter and matters more. Write the exclusion list down: every scan room, every control room, preparation spaces and changing cubicles. Give it a named owner and a review date, because a verbal rule lasts about one staffing change. Make the door real - a closer and a habit outperform anything with a price on it. Place the single source deep, two or three metres back from the corridor mouth, out of the supply blast, oriented into the seating. Keep the corridor a buffer and add nothing to it. And use a run window if you own a machine, so the source is simply absent at the hours that matter most. I will not give you a technical account of what happens inside a scan suite, because that is decided by your radiographer, the equipment manufacturer and your facility engineer, and a fragrance house offering engineering there would be worse than one saying nothing. Size the hardware against the public volume that survives the exclusions, in cubic metres rather than square feet. Fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting, seating or signage, it works alongside your ventilation and cleaning rather than instead of them, SOSA products are not medical devices, we make no claim that scenting affects how a centre performs commercially, and the clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan, including mine.
Two halves. Design the arrival as five moments from kerb to call, with air ranking behind light, sound and seating. Then defend the boundary with a written list, a closed door, a deep placement and a run window. The second half is free.
Gate the purchase on the public volume, not the lease. Under about 750 sq ft, one Mountain Breeze reed at ₹849. Past roughly 1,500 sq ft, the SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999.

The ladder, gated by public volume

Gate every one of these on the volume that survives the exclusions, converted into cubic metres. An imaging plan loses more area to the exclusions than any other, so the honest product is usually a step lower than the lease suggests.

The two halves, and one honest note about hardware

Design work first, boundary work second, and then the part of the conversation most suppliers leave out of a pillar page.

1
One
Half one: the arrival is a sequence, and air is late in it
Walk your own building as a visitor at nine in the morning and stop at each of the five moments. At the approach, is the signage legible from the road and is the entrance clean. At the threshold, does the light temperature change abruptly from daylight to cool white, and is there anything absorbing sound. At the counter, can a person hear the receptionist over the room. At the seat, is there enough space that a companion can sit beside rather than opposite. At the call, does anybody tell a waiting visitor that the list is running late. Every one of those is worth more than fragrance, and four of the five cost nothing but attention. Air enters at the threshold and the seat, and it enters last. That ordering is the most useful thing in this half of the brief, because it stops a scenting budget being spent on a problem that was never about smell.
Tip: Do the walk with somebody who has never been in the building. They will notice the two things you stopped seeing years ago.
SOSA Vaayu
Once the earlier levers are done, a Vaayu is bought for control rather than reach, and that is the honest reason it is here at all.

Two
Half two: four mechanisms, written down and owned
The boundary between your public volume and your clinical rooms is not maintained by good intentions. It is maintained by four things, and all four should be on one page in the operations file. The exclusion list itself: every scan room, every control room, preparation spaces, changing cubicles - by name, with a named owner and a review date. Door discipline: which doors stay closed, who checks, and what happens when a trolley props one open. Placement: exactly where the single source stands, marked on the drawing, two or three metres back from the corridor mouth and out of any supply blast. And timing: the run window, if a machine is involved, so the source is absent through the heaviest clinical hours. That page costs nothing to produce and it is the only part of this brief that survives a change of manager, which is why I keep saying it is the more valuable half.
Tip: Put the drawing with the source position marked on it in the same folder as the exclusion list. Two sheets of paper, one owner, one review date.
SOSA Vaayu
A key-locked Vaayu is the hardware equivalent of that written page: it holds the decision after the person who made it has moved on.

3
Three
What I have to tell you before you specify a machine
Three gaps, stated plainly, because a pillar page that hides them is not worth reading. First, refills: the Vaayu ships with a 400ml tank that runs 90 or more days, and there is no cold-air refill oil sold on our store today - if you are planning a flagship around one, confirm re-supply with us in writing before you build a standard on it. The water-based Hotel Collection is for ultrasonic machines and is not a substitute. Second, terms: SOSA publishes no warranty policy, no annual maintenance contract, no installation or commissioning service and no corporate programme, so if any of those matter to your procurement, ask us rather than assume. Third, scale: the Meenar at ₹38,500 is quoted for roughly 12,000-18,000 sq ft of HVAC-connected space, and very few imaging centres are anywhere near that even at flagship size.
Tip: Put the refill question in writing before you commission anything, and keep the reply. It is the item most likely to be forgotten at handover.
SOSA Angaan
The same applies at Angaan scale. Ask about re-supply and terms first, and let the answer shape the specification.
See SOSA Angaan →
The SOSA principle
Design everything up to the clinical door as though it were the whole product, and treat everything past it as somebody else's drawing.
An imaging centre that gets both of those right will look more considered than one that spent three times as much blurring the line between them.
SOSA Vaayu
Four honest reasons to own a machine here: control, no water, distribution to a corridor no desk bottle reaches, and uptime. Reach is not on the list.

The arrival, moment by moment

This is the version I would pin above a project desk. The right-hand column names the lever that actually moves each moment, and fragrance appears in exactly two rows.

The SOSA plan
The arrival, moment by moment, and where air sits
Moment in the visit The lever that actually moves it
Approach and door
Signage legibility, clean glass, a working door and a mat that is not soaked. Nothing here is a fragrance question and all of it is visible from the pavement.
SOSA VaayuThreshold - the first ninety seconds
Light temperature first, sound absorption second, air third. This is one of the two rows where a source belongs, placed well inside the door rather than at it. View →
The counter and the seat
Acoustics, seating layout and space for a companion. Air is a background attribute here and should be quieter than at the threshold, because dwell is long.
The call, and everything behind the door
Being told what is happening, and then a boundary we do not cross. The clinical rooms are decided by the radiographer, the equipment manufacturer and the facility engineer.

The subtraction that sizes the hardware is worked in full in scenting MRI, CT, ultrasound and X-ray under one roof, the refusal that defines the second half is in should MRI scan rooms be kept fragrance-free, and the level for a long-wait seating area is argued in should an imaging-centre waiting room have ambient fragrance. SOSA makes no health or therapeutic claim of any kind, no claim about how anybody feels, and no claim that scenting affects how a centre performs commercially.

SOSA Vaayu
Refills, stated plainly: the 400ml tank runs 90+ days, there is no cold-air refill oil sold today, and re-supply must be confirmed with SOSA in writing before you build a standard on it.
Both halves, against your own drawing
Send the plan with the clinical rooms shaded and the ceiling height over the seating, and we will return the sequence and the boundary on two sheets.
See the SOSA Vaayu Book a scenting plan
Spend your attention on everything before the clinical door and none of it after, and you will have done the entire imaging brief - one half with a budget, the other half with a pencil.

Below roughly 1,500 sq ft of public air the answer is a reed at ₹749-₹849 or a Sukoon at ₹1,899, and a great many imaging centres land there once the exclusions come off. There is no cold-air refill oil sold today and SOSA publishes no warranty, no annual maintenance contract, no installation service and no corporate programme - ask us instead of assuming, and nothing is promised on terms. Fragrance is an ambience decision like lighting or signage, with no health, therapeutic or clinical claim of any kind, and no claim that it affects how a business performs. It works alongside your ventilation and cleaning, never instead of them, and SOSA products are not medical devices. Scan rooms, control rooms, preparation areas and changing cubicles stay unscented, staff must be able to switch the source off in seconds, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan. A note from Sonal

When an imaging centre asks me to help with its arrival, the first thing I do is refuse half the brief. Not out of caution, but because the half I refuse belongs to people who are accountable for it in a way I am not, and a supplier who blurs that line is a liability dressed as a partner. What is left is still a real piece of work, and it is the piece I am actually good at.

The other thing I do is put fragrance late in the list. Light temperature, sound, seating layout and whether somebody tells a waiting visitor that the list has slipped - all of those change an arrival more than air does, and all of them are cheaper. I say that on a page that also sells an ₹11,999 machine, because it is true and because you will find it out yourself the week after you buy one if I do not.

So: design the arrival, defend the boundary, and buy the smallest thing your volume justifies. We make no health, therapeutic or clinical claim of any kind, no claim about how anybody feels, and no claim that scenting affects how a centre performs commercially. Fragrance is an ambience decision, like lighting or seating. Clinical rooms stay unscented, and the clinician's judgement overrides any plan. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

What are the two halves of an imaging scenting brief?
Designing the arrival, and defending the boundary. The first is a sequence of five moments from the kerb to the moment a name is called, in which air ranks behind light, sound and seating. The second is a written exclusion list, doors that close, a source placed well back from the corridor mouth, and a run window.
Which part of an imaging arrival does fragrance actually affect?
Two of the five moments: the threshold, where light, sound and air all change together as somebody comes in from the street, and the seat, where dwell is long and the level should be lower. It does nothing for the approach, the counter interaction or being told that the list is running late.
How do I keep clinical zones neutral without lowering the reception level?
Four mechanisms. A written exclusion list with a named owner and a review date. Doors closed as routine rather than propped. The single source placed two or three metres back from the corridor mouth and oriented into the seating. And a run window that removes the source entirely during the heaviest clinical hours.
What size of machine does a flagship imaging centre need?
Whatever the public volume that survives the exclusions calls for, converted into cubic metres. Under about 750 sq ft, a reed at ₹749-₹849. To roughly 1,500, a reed or a Sukoon at ₹1,899. Past that, a Vaayu at ₹11,999, and past about 3,000 sq ft of concourse an Angaan at ₹25,999 where ducting allows.
Is there anything I should confirm with SOSA before specifying a machine?
Yes, two things. There is no cold-air refill oil on sale today, so re-supply beyond the 400ml tank should be confirmed with us in writing before you build a standard around one. And SOSA publishes no warranty, no annual maintenance contract and no installation service, so ask rather than assume if procurement needs those.
SOSA Meenar
The top of the ladder, rarely reached: the Meenar at ₹38,500 is quoted for roughly 12,000-18,000 sq ft of HVAC-connected space, which is a hospital imaging department rather than a standalone flagship.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W (roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule), freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Angaan (₹25,999) is an HVAC nebulising diffuser rated to 3,000m³, roughly 8,000-10,000 sq ft, with an 800ml reservoir, metal body, programmable schedules and operation under 42dB, and also runs standalone wall-mounted or lay-flat. The SOSA Meenar (₹38,500) is the largest machine in the range, quoted for roughly 12,000-18,000 sq ft of HVAC-connected space. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and clinical protocol and is not a substitute for any of them, it is not a medical device, and SOSA makes no health, therapeutic or treatment claim of any kind and no claim that fragrance affects bookings, retention or spend. CE, RoHS and SGS are electrical and compliance marks, not medical approval. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference. Coverage, fragrance usage and running cost depend on the space, settings and hours of use, and are confirmed on a consultation.
