The two spaces are usually twenty steps apart and they have almost nothing in common. One is a room where somebody chooses between finishes and needs to see and touch them properly. The other is a working stock hall. The mistake is treating them as two ends of one gradient, when they are two entirely different briefs.
Quick answers — read this first
How should a building-materials experience centre differ from the godown? Specify it as a showroom rather than as a smart part of the warehouse. That means light first — the colour of the light decides whether a tile, a laminate or a paint drawdown can be judged at all. Then surfaces and sound, because these rooms are hard by nature and a hard room feels cheap. Then sample handling: somewhere to set a heavy sample down, clean edges, nothing chipped. Then, last, a signature held low. The godown gets none of that. It gets housekeeping, extraction and dry storage.

Should the experience centre and godown share one fragrance at different strengths? No, because the godown gets nothing. We do not scent stock halls, and in a building-materials business the reason is unusually plain: cement, board, adhesive, packaging and forklift exhaust are all real smells with sources, and laying a register over them produces a space that smells of both. There is also the safety point — in a stock area a smell is information about a leak or a spill. The experience centre is the only scented space, and its edge is the last self-closing door before the racks.

Dust from the stock keeps reaching the display floor. What do we do? Treat it as a source and air problem, in that order, before you treat it as anything else. Find the route: a propped door, a shared shutter, a gap above a partition, an air intake on the yard side. Make the connecting door self-closing, add a lobby with two doors if the layout allows, hold the display side slightly positive and the stock side slightly negative, and put a proper matting run at the external entrance. Then clean on a schedule. A fragrance added before that work is done simply sits on top of the dust.
The short answer
Short answer: Specify them as two rooms with two jobs. The experience centre is a showroom: light that lets a finish be judged, softened sound, somewhere to set a heavy sample down, and then a signature held low. The godown is a source of dust and packaging smell and gets nothing. The door between them decides whether either plan survives.
The pick: For an experience centre of roughly 1,500 sq ft and up of connected volume, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, wall or HVAC mounted and key-locked. Below that, SOSA Mountain Breeze at ₹849.
Next step: Tell us the display floor area, the ceiling height and where it meets the stock, and we will size it by the air. Ask for a Raipur scenting plan.
A showroom and a stock hall, not one gradientLight first: can a finish actually be judged here?Soften a hard room before you add anything to itSomewhere to set a heavy sample downThe door to the racks: self-closing, never wedgedThen one register, held low, on the display side
Four of these five decide whether the experience centre works. The fifth finishes it, and only once the first four are done.
Straight answer
How do we make a materials experience centre feel different from the godown beside it?
By writing two briefs instead of one. The commonest mistake I see is an experience centre specified as the tidy end of a warehouse — same floor, same light, same ceiling, better furniture — and it never reads as a showroom because it was never designed as one. Start with light, because in a materials business it is not decoration, it is function. The colour and quality of the light decides whether a tile, a laminate, a veneer, a paint drawdown or a stone slab can be judged at all, and a customer who cannot trust what they are seeing will not enjoy the room however it smells. Get that right and the space immediately stops being a warehouse corner. Then the surfaces and the sound. These rooms are hard by nature — tile floors, glass, stone, display racks, a high ceiling — and a hard room turns four people into a din and feels cheap regardless of what the fit-out cost. A rug in the consultation corner, a fabric-faced panel, heavier blinds. Then the handling. Somewhere solid to set a heavy sample down, clean sample edges, nothing chipped along the display, a table at a height where two people can look at a board together. Then the boundary, which in your building is the whole ball game. Cement, board, adhesive, packaging and forklift exhaust are real smells with real sources, and dust off stock travels further than anyone expects. The connecting door should be self-closing and never wedged, ideally with a small lobby, the display side held slightly positive and the stock side slightly negative, a matting run at the external entrance, and cleaning on a schedule rather than before visits. And then, last, the signature. One register on the display side only, dry and unsweet, held low. For a display floor of roughly 1,500 sq ft and more of connected volume that is one Vaayu at ₹11,999, wall mounted and key-locked; below that, a reed at ₹849. The godown gets nothing, and we would decline to scent it. If you would like this looked at properly, ask us for a Raipur scenting plan.
Specify the experience centre as a showroom — light, sound, sample handling — and the godown as a source to be sealed off. One is scented, the other never is.
For a display floor with a high ceiling, the air volume is far larger than the floor plan suggests. Where it reaches roughly 1,500 sq ft and more of connected volume, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 wall or HVAC mounted, set low, run window matched to opening hours and key-locked.

What to actually buy, by volume

Sizing honestly: an experience centre with a high ceiling holds far more air than its floor plan suggests, so measure the volume rather than the carpet. From roughly 1,500 sq ft of connected volume a machine is the right call. Below that a reed at ₹849 does the job, and I would rather say so than put a unit built for thousands of square feet into a display corner.

Three things that decide it

Three decisions that separate the two spaces, in the order they need taking.

1
First, light and sound on the display floor
In a materials showroom the light is function, not decoration
A customer standing in your experience centre is trying to decide between two greys, or whether a veneer will look warm in their own hall. If the light is flat, cold, or a mixture of three different colour temperatures because fittings were replaced piecemeal, they cannot make that judgement and they know it, so they hedge and take samples away. Fix the light first and you have changed the room's job. Then the sound: these spaces are tiled, glazed and high, and four people talking in one is genuinely loud. Softening it costs little and it is the difference between a showroom and a hall with stock in it. Both of these are read long before the air is.
Tip: Take a white sample and a mid-grey sample and look at them under your own lights at four in the afternoon. If you cannot tell warm from cool, neither can your customer.
2
Second, the dust and the door
Cement, board and packaging dust is a source question
Building-materials premises generate fine dust and the display floor collects it, on horizontal sample edges, on the tops of racks and on anything with a texture. Before anything fragrant, find the route it takes. Usually it is the connecting door held open with a brick because staff move stock through it all day, a shutter that shares its opening with the display entrance, a gap above a partition that stops short of the slab, or an intake on the yard side. Make the connecting door self-closing, add a lobby if the layout allows, hold the display side slightly positive and the stock side slightly negative, put a proper matting run at the external door, and clean to a schedule rather than in the half hour before a visit. Fragrance laid over dust gives you both.
SOSA Vaayu
The machine, where warranted, mounts on the display side of that door and nowhere else.

3
Third, the register for the display floor
Dry and woody sits beside timber, stone and tile without arguing
Materials rooms have their own quiet smell — timber, stone dust, paper catalogues, sometimes a faint adhesive note off a sample board — and the register you choose should sit with that rather than across it. Himalayan pine, sage and cedar is the one I recommend most often here, for exactly that reason: it is dry, unsweet and ungendered, and it reads as considered rather than decorated. Where the centre is white, glazed and daylit, Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus is the cleaner alternative. Avoid anything sweet or gourmand, which in a room full of material samples reads as a cover. Hold the level low enough that a customer never mentions it, and set it with the room busy rather than empty.
The SOSA principle
A high-ceilinged display floor holds far more air than its floor plan suggests, and coverage is volumetric.
Size by the air, not the carpet — and remember a second unit belongs to a second volume of air, never to a second corner of the same hall.
SOSA Vaayu
The display-floor machine: Vaayu — 1000m³, waterless, wall or HVAC mounted, run windows matched to opening hours, key-locked, under 38dB. ₹11,999.

Room by room

The two spaces side by side, so the difference is obvious on paper before it is obvious in the building.

The SOSA plan
Experience centre and godown, compared
Experience centre Godown and stock yard
SOSA VaayuLight chosen so a finish can be judged honestly
Light chosen so stock can be found and moved safely. Different job, different fitting.
Sound softened so four people can talk
Hard, loud and working. Nothing to be done about it and nothing that needs doing.
Dust controlled: matting, self-closing door, schedule
Dust generated. Extraction, floor cleaning, dry storage and door discipline.
One dry register, held low, set with the room busy
No fragrance at all. We would decline this work, and a smell here is information.

The rule this page rests on is set out at length in why a godown is a source and never a candidate, and if the same building also hosts vendor meetings, one signature for buyer and supplier-facing rooms covers how far a single register should travel. SOSA is an independent Indian brand; the hotel-inspired scents are our own original interpretations, and no company named anywhere on this site is a SOSA customer or partner.

An experience centre specified as the tidy end of a warehouse will always read as the tidy end of a warehouse. Write it a showroom's brief instead.

Limits worth stating. We do not scent godowns, stock yards, loading bays or racking halls and would decline that work. There is no SOSA refill product for the Vaayu at present, so treat the fill as part of the purchase conversation rather than assuming a cartridge is on the site. Coverage is volumetric and a double-height display floor holds far more air than its plan suggests. A second unit belongs to a second volume of air — a separate hall or another floor — never to a second corner of the same room.

A note from Sonal

The first thing I ask for in a materials experience centre is not the floor plan, it is a photograph taken at four in the afternoon with the lights on. Almost always the fittings have been replaced piecemeal over the years and there are three colour temperatures in one ceiling. A customer standing under that cannot judge a grey against a grey, and they know it. No amount of anything else rescues a room where the central task cannot be performed.

The second thing is the door to the stock. In every building of this kind it is propped, because staff move material through it forty times a day and a self-closing door is inconvenient to them. That single brick is why fine dust settles on your sample edges and why the display floor smells faintly of packaging. A lobby, a self-closing door, a matting run and a cleaning schedule will do more for that room than anything I could sell you for the same money.

When those are handled, the register is the last and smallest choice: dry, woody, unsweet, sitting with the timber and stone rather than across them, and held low enough that a customer never mentions it. This is an ambience decision and not a claim that it changes what anyone selects or orders, and nothing therapeutic or medical is implied. It never masks a smell that has a source. Your own staff's judgement on the level outranks mine. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How do we make the experience centre feel different from the godown?
Write it a different brief. An experience centre is a showroom: light chosen so a finish can be judged honestly, softened sound, somewhere solid to set a heavy sample down, clean sample edges. The godown is a working stock hall and gets housekeeping, extraction and dry storage instead. One of them is scented and the other never is.
Should the godown have a lighter version of the same scent?
No. We do not scent stock halls at all and would decline that work. A godown already smells of cement, board, adhesive, packaging and forklift exhaust, and a register laid over that gives you both at once. There is also a safety point: in a stock area a smell is information about a spill or a leak, and it should not have to be found underneath a chosen note.
Dust from the stock keeps reaching the display floor. Will fragrance help?
No, and it will make things worse by adding a second smell to the first. Find the route the dust takes: a propped connecting door, a shared shutter, a gap above a partition, an intake on the yard side. Make the door self-closing, add a lobby if you can, hold the display side slightly positive, lay a proper matting run at the entrance, and clean to a schedule.
What should the experience centre smell of?
Something dry and woody that sits alongside timber, stone and tile rather than across them. Himalayan pine, sage and cedar is what I recommend most often here. Where the centre is white, glazed and daylit, Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus is the cleaner alternative. Avoid sweet or gourmand notes, which in a room full of samples read as a cover.
Do we need a machine or would a reed do on the display floor?
It depends on the air, not the floor area. A display floor with a high ceiling holds far more air than its plan suggests. Under about 300 sq ft, a reed at Rs 849. From roughly 1,500 sq ft of connected volume, a Vaayu at Rs 11,999, wall mounted and key-locked. Above 3,000 sq ft or for a genuinely separate hall, an Angaan at Rs 25,999.
SOSA Angaan
Only for a genuinely vast floor: Angaan — 3,000m³, roughly 8,000 to 10,000 sq ft, metal body and programmable, where a display hall is on that scale. ₹25,999.
