Every architect draws the services a guest never sees — the water that arrives clean, the air that changes without a draught, the power behind the wall. Fragrance belongs on exactly those drawings. Treat it as a building service, not a plug-in air freshener, and it can be ducted, zoned and balanced like any other.
Quick answers — read this first
Can fragrance be designed into a spa at the drawing stage?
Yes — and it should be. A single HVAC diffuser in the plant room scents the whole building through existing ductwork, with each zone dialled by damper and run time.

What hardware does an architect specify?
The SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) for 8,000–10,000 sq ft or the Meenar (₹38,500) for 12,000–18,000 sq ft, mounted to the air handler. A Vaayu (₹11,999) covers standalone rooms without ducting.
The short answer
Short answer: Draw fragrance as a service. A plant-room HVAC diffuser injects scent into the supply air; you zone it with dampers and run times, keep wet-area extract on its own circuit, and leave clean air where the body must lead.
The pick: the SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) ducted to the air handler for 8,000–10,000 sq ft, or the Meenar (₹38,500) for 12,000–18,000 sq ft flagship layouts.
Straight answer
How does an architect plan fragrance into a spa layout from the drawing stage?
1. Put it on the services drawings. Fragrance is air. Draw it where you draw the HVAC, not as furniture added at handover. A plant-room diffuser and a few metres of the existing duct do the whole building.

2. Specify an HVAC diffuser at the air handler. The SOSA Aangan (₹25,999) covers 8,000–10,000 sq ft; the Meenar (₹38,500) covers 12,000–18,000 sq ft. It injects nebulised oil into the supply air.

3. Zone with dampers and run times, not extra machines. Reception and the lounge take full delivery; treatment supplies are trimmed to a trace; the practice and clinical rooms can be zoned out entirely.

4. Keep wet areas on their own extract. Steam, sauna and hydrotherapy amplify scent and need aggressive extract. Do not inject signature into the wet-zone supply; scent the transition instead.

5. Provide power, access and a maintenance path. A small fused supply at the air handler, room to reach the oil reservoir, and a filter-change routine folded into the plant maintenance schedule.

6. Leave standalone rooms a fallback. Where a room is off the central system, a waterless Vaayu (₹11,999) covers it. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: Draw fragrance as a service: one plant-room HVAC diffuser — Aangan (₹25,999) or Meenar (₹38,500) — zoned by damper and run time, wet areas on their own extract, Vaayu (₹11,999) for off-system rooms.

SOSA Aangan ₹25,999
An HVAC nebulising diffuser that mounts to the air handler and scents 8,000–10,000 sq ft through the ducting you are already drawing — no diffusers in the guest spaces, no humidity, one signature building-wide.

Fragrance as a building service

Architects are comfortable designing the invisible. Fresh air, hot and cold water, drainage, data, power — all of it is routed, sized and balanced long before a single finish is chosen, and all of it is judged by the guest only through its effect. Fragrance is no different in kind. It is a substance carried by moving air, and the moment you treat it as such it stops being a decorative afterthought bought at handover and becomes a service you can draw, size and commission with everything else.

The practical consequence is large. A spa scented at handover with a scatter of plug-in units is a spa fighting its own airflow: pockets of strong and weak, machines on show, humidity where you least want it. A spa where fragrance was designed in has a single source in the plant room, injecting nebulised oil into the supply air, distributed by the same balanced system that moves the fresh air. Nothing is visible in the guest spaces. The signature is even, controllable and, crucially, consistent — the same in the far corner of the corridor as at the reception desk.

This is a waterless technology, which matters to the building. HVAC nebulising diffusers such as the Aangan and Meenar add no moisture to the air — an important distinction in a spa already managing humidity from wet zones, and essential in a coastal Indian city where the last thing the HVAC needs is more water to fight.

The SOSA principle
Design fragrance into the ductwork, not the decor.
A single plant-room source, distributed by the air you are already moving, beats a dozen units bought after the fact — evener, invisible, and far easier to control.

Zoning by duct, damper and pressure

The elegance of designing scent into the HVAC is that the zoning is already half-drawn: your supply zones become your scent zones. Reception and the relaxation lounge, where the signature should be fullest, take normal delivery. Treatment-room supplies are trimmed — by damper, by run-time scheduling, or by tapping those branches downstream of the injection point — so that only a trace reaches them. Meditation, yoga and any clinical rooms can be zoned out of the scented supply entirely, which is exactly what the doctrine wants: near-neutral air where the breath or the body must lead.

Wet and heat zones need the opposite treatment, and this is where an architect’s instincts protect the scheme. Steam rooms, saunas, hammams and hydrotherapy suites amplify any fragrance present, and they run high extract for good reason. Do not inject signature into their supply. Let them be scented, if at all, only by the trace that drifts from the scented transition spaces — the cool approach, the changing rooms — and rely on their dedicated extract to keep the chambers clean. Pressure relationships you are designing anyway (positive front-of-house, negative wet zones) will keep the signature flowing the right way through the building and stop wet-zone air migrating back into the scented public areas.

Where a room sits off the central system — a standalone suite, a later addition, a small studio — you do not need to redesign the ducting. A waterless Vaayu (₹11,999) placed in that room carries the same Hotel Collection cast, so the signature stays continuous even where the air handling does not reach.

A guest should never meet the machine. Only the air it disappears into.

The SOSA commercial edit

For a layout designed around the HVAC, the central units do the building and a waterless unit mops up anything off-system. Here is what I specify with architects.

The SOSA commercial edit
Size the system to the space
System Best for Why it works Price
Boond A single treatment room, washroom or changing room Compact, low-output ultrasonic; easy to hold to a trace so the treatment leads ₹799
Sukoon + Hotel Collection A single reception or a small relaxation lounge Compact front-of-house scenting; audition two casts a fortnight apiece ₹1,799 + from ₹299
SOSA Vaayu ★ Reception, corridors and lounges — the professional standard Waterless cold-air nebulising, up to ~1000m³, app + 1/4/8/24h timer, <38dB, no added humidity ₹11,999
SOSA Aangan A whole wellness centre, 8,000–10,000 sq ft, via the HVAC One signature ducted across every public zone, wet areas left on their own circuit ₹25,999
SOSA Meenar A flagship or large property, 12,000–18,000 sq ft The largest HVAC unit for multi-wing centres and resort spas ₹38,500
Hotel Collection refills Keeping the signature running 100ml / 300ml top-ups; low running cost across long daily hours from ₹999
Honest notes for spa owners: Even a perfectly ducted system is a finishing layer, not a foundation — ambient scenting’s effect on dwell time, perceived quality and recall is real but moderate — it compounds a well-run business and rescues nothing; the premises must be clean and ventilated first. Ultrasonic systems (Boond, Sukoon, Megh) add slight humidity and run water-based fragrance; the Vaayu and the HVAC units (Aangan, Meenar) run waterless nebulising oil — the two are not interchangeable, and waterless is the better choice for long daily runs and humid coastal cities. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA’s own interpretations inspired by the world’s finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

The best spa scenting I have ever done was decided in a site meeting, not a showroom. The mechanical engineer had the HVAC drawings open, the architect had the zoning plan, and we simply added one more service to the same conversation. By the time the building opened, the signature was already in the air on the first day of trading.

Compare that with the jobs I am called to after handover, where I am trying to make a scatter of tabletop units behave like a designed system. It can be done, but it is always a compromise. When fragrance is drawn in from the start, the result is invisible and even, and the client stops thinking about it — which is the highest compliment a service can earn.

We make our nebulising oils in Pune, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Your building gets a quiet signature; a girl gets a classroom.

Frequently asked questions

Can fragrance really be integrated into a spa’s HVAC?
Yes. An HVAC nebulising diffuser mounts at the air handler and injects scent into the supply air, so the whole building is scented from one plant-room source with nothing visible in the guest spaces. The SOSA Aangan at ₹25,999 covers 8,000–10,000 sq ft; the Meenar at ₹38,500 covers 12,000–18,000 sq ft.
What provisions should I show on the drawings?
A mounting position at the AHU, a small fused power supply, an injection tapping into the supply duct downstream of the fan, and clear access for refills and filter cleaning. That is all the Aangan at ₹25,999 needs; it uses the ductwork you are already designing.
How do I scent different zones at different strengths through one system?
Use the supply zoning you already have. Reception and the lounge take full delivery; treatment supplies are trimmed by damper and run time to a trace; meditation, yoga and clinical rooms are zoned out. One Meenar at ₹38,500 can carry a large multi-wing layout this way.
How should wet and heat areas be handled in the design?
Keep them on their own extract and do not inject signature into their supply — heat and humidity amplify scent, so you scent the cool approach instead and let the chambers stay clean. Where a nearby transition room needs scent, a waterless Vaayu at ₹11,999 adds no moisture to an already humid area.
What about rooms that are not on the central HVAC?
Cover them with a standalone waterless unit carrying the same cast, so the signature stays continuous. A Vaayu at ₹11,999 suits a suite or lobby up to ~1000m³, and a Boond at ₹799 handles a single small off-system room.
