The honest answer is much less than designers expect, and knowing that early saves an awkward conversation with the electrical consultant.
Quick answers — read this first
Do I need to plan power points for home scenting machines? One socket per connected volume, at the machine position. Rooms behind closed doors need none, because they are served by reeds which require no power.

How many sockets does a typical home need? Usually one. Most homes have a single connected volume of any size, and everything else is a reed.

Where should the socket go? At the machine position - on hard surface, in the path of air movement, away from the largest soft furnishing and not at an air conditioning grille.
The short answer
Short answer: One socket per connected volume. Closed rooms take reeds and need none.
The pick: the SOSA Safar (₹3,999) as the flagship delivery gift; volume gifts from ₹299; reed diffusers from ₹749; the Vaayu (₹11,999) for your own premises.

A customer gift works when it survives the drive home - sweets vanish in a day and keychains join a drawer, but a fragrance is used daily in the customer's own car or living room, replaying your brand at every use. The method: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, brand the gesture with your card, pilot and scale. This guide walks the exact play, with real SOSA options at every band.
Straight answer
Do I need to plan power points for home scenting machines?
Far less than most designers expect. The rule is one socket per connected volume, at the machine position - and nothing anywhere else. The reason is that a machine distributes through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door, so every bedroom, bathroom, study and dressing room is its own zone - and those zones are better served by a reed diffuser, which needs no power at all. No socket, no schedule, no attention, running continuously at a low level, which is exactly what a bedroom wants. So a four-bedroom apartment typically needs one socket, and a plan with no large open volume may need none. Where the socket goes matters more than how many. At the machine position: hard surface, in the path of general air movement, away from the largest soft piece - textiles load over days and that corner strengthens while the setting has not changed - and not at an AC grille. Two practical notes: if the machine sits in built-in furniture, put the socket and a shelf-depth note on the joinery drawing, because a shelf fifty millimetres too shallow kills the position. And in a stone-floored room, take the position up onto a console - fragrance rises with warm air. Vaayu ₹11,999, Sukoon ₹1,799, reeds from ₹749. WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

Usually one socket, and often none at all

The honest answer here is far less than most designers expect, and it is worth knowing before the conversation with the electrical consultant, because the instinct is to over-provide and the result is sockets in places that will never be used. The rule is one socket per connected volume, at the machine position, and nothing anywhere else. The reasoning comes straight from how the products work. A machine distributes fragrance through connected moving air, and it cannot cross a closed door. So a plan divides into zones bounded by the doors that are normally kept shut, and each zone is a separate problem. In most homes there is exactly one connected zone of any size - the open living, dining and circulation volume - and every bedroom, bathroom, study, dressing room and utility room is its own small zone. The large zone gets a machine and therefore a socket. The small zones are better served by reed diffusers, which need no power whatsoever, no scheduling and no attention, and which run continuously at a low level, which is precisely the behaviour a bedroom or bathroom wants. Reeds are also unaffected by a client being away, by a power cut and by anybody forgetting to do anything. So a four-bedroom apartment typically needs one socket for this layer, and a plan without a large open volume may need none at all. Where that socket goes matters considerably more than how many there are. It goes at the machine position, and the position follows four rules. On hard surface rather than beside a large soft piece, because textiles take fragrance up while a system runs and release it back slowly, so a source next to a velvet sofa, heavy curtains or a thick rug loads that material over days and the corner becomes progressively stronger while the setting has not changed. That is the most common placement error in the category and clients experience it as the room being too strong in one place and too weak in another, then adjust the level, which cannot fix a distribution problem. In the path of general air movement, because air is what actually carries fragrance around a room - near a doorway with traffic through it, or in the general flow of conditioned air. Not directly at an air conditioning grille, where the fragrance is either pulled away before doing anything in the room or spread far more widely than the position implies. And higher rather than lower in stone-floored rooms, because stone holds temperature and stays cooler than the air above it, so warm air rises and takes fragrance with it, and a source at floor level distributes poorly. A console, a shelf or a ledge is better, which usually means the socket wants to be at console height rather than at skirting level. Two practical notes that save trouble. If the machine is intended to sit inside or on built-in furniture, the socket goes on the joinery drawing as well as the electrical layout, along with a note on shelf depth and ventilation, because a shelf that is fifty millimetres too shallow makes the position unusable and nobody discovers that until the client moves in. And if the position is anywhere near stone, timber or lacquered joinery, note on the drawing that the machine stands on a tray, because a spill marks all three - and reed oil marks them even more readily, which is why every reed in the house stands on a tray as well. On what actually goes at each position, the Vaayu at Rs 11,999 covers a large open volume - waterless with no tank, so nothing to fill and no humidity added to a room, coverage up to 1,000 square metres or roughly 10,700 square feet, with Bluetooth app and timer control, which is what makes a genuinely low continuous setting practical and which matters on a project you will not revisit. The Megh at Rs 3,499 has a 6L tank for a substantial area, the Sukoon at Rs 1,799 suits a single room and the Boond at Rs 799 a small one. Machines take the water-based Hotel Collection only, at three to six drops per tank with a rinse between scents, and never reed oil, which can damage them - an instruction that belongs in the handover pack rather than in a conversation on site. Reeds for closed rooms are Rs 749 to Rs 849, three to four months a bottle, refills at Rs 2,399 for 300ml and Rs 3,499 for 500ml, roughly Rs 200 to Rs 280 per room per month. There is a related question that comes up on projects with ducted air conditioning, and the honest answer is that our machines are standalone room units rather than duct-mounted equipment. We do not supply anything designed to be integrated into ductwork, and nothing should be introduced into an HVAC system without the system designer being involved, because that is their equipment and their warranty. What ducted air does mean is that a single machine in a connected volume distributes further and faster than it would in still air, which is an argument for a lower setting rather than for more equipment. Finally, mark the exclusions on the electrical drawing as well, so that nobody helpfully adds a socket for a purpose that should not exist: never the kitchen at any time, because cooking smell is aerosolised oil and extraction is the answer; no fragrance in children's rooms; a covered terrace, balcony or verandah cannot hold fragrance because the air is not enclosed, so no socket and no equipment there however much it is requested; and staff quarters and utility areas get nothing. Anybody who shares the home and cannot leave a room gets a low neutral register and a physical off switch rather than an app-only one, which is a specification point rather than an electrical one but belongs in the same conversation. Everything is alcohol-free and made to IFRA-compliant standards, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Volume pricing is quoted against the specification on WhatsApp.

Why this works
What you actually need
1 One socket per connected volume, at the machine position 2 Nothing in any room that is normally behind a closed door 3 Because those rooms take reeds, which need no power 4 So most homes need one socket, and some need none
The flagship delivery gift: the SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 - a rechargeable waterless car diffuser with three hotel-inspired scents in the box. Per-unit gifts from ₹299; volume pricing on WhatsApp.
01
One socket, usually
Per connected volume, not per room
A machine cannot cross a closed door, so the plan divides into zones. Most homes have one connected zone of any size, and every closed room is better served by a reed.
Tip: Reeds need no power, no schedule and no attention.
02
Position matters more than quantity
Hard surface, moving air, off the soft piece, off the grille
A source beside upholstery loads it over days, so the corner strengthens while the setting has not changed. Clients read that as too strong here and too weak there, and adjust the level, which cannot fix it.
03
Two details that save trouble
Joinery drawing, and a tray
If the machine sits in built-in furniture, put the socket and a shelf-depth note on the joinery drawing. And note that machines and reeds stand on trays, because spills mark stone, timber and lacquer.
Tip: Take the position up to console height in stone-floored rooms.
The SOSA principle
A four-bedroom apartment usually needs one socket for this entire layer.
Everything else runs on nothing.

How little the electrical drawing actually needs

Far less than most designers expect. The rule is one socket per connected volume at the machine position, and nothing anywhere else, because a machine distributes through connected moving air and cannot cross a closed door - so the plan divides into zones, and while the large open volume takes a machine, every bedroom, bathroom, study and dressing room is better served by a reed diffuser, which needs no power, no scheduling and no attention and runs continuously at a low level. Whatever your business gifts, the logic is the same: gift the milestone moment, set the per-unit band by customer value, keep the register gentle and crowd-safe, and brand the gesture with your card rather than your logo on the product. Every SOSA fragrance is alcohol-free and made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so every customer gift quietly gives twice. Honest notes for business gifters: customer taste varies, so volume programmes should run gentle, crowd-tested registers - fresh, clean and lightly floral scents are received well across every profile, and space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) avoid the personal-taste risk of skin perfume entirely. Listed prices are per-unit store prices; volume pricing, pilot batches, branded cards and custom hamper builds are quoted on WhatsApp - and signature-scent development for your brand is a consultation with our perfumer, not an off-the-shelf item, so timelines are discussed case by case. The Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by the world's finest hotels; SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house, not affiliated with any hotel brand. Ultrasonic diffusers use the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance; reed diffusers use their own alcohol-free reed oil - the two are not interchangeable. All personal fragrances are alcohol-free and IFRA-compliant. WhatsApp bulk desk: +91 96192 18531. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

Most customer gifts are bought to be handed over, not to be kept: the sweet box is finished by the family that evening, the keychain joins a drawer, the branded pen was never really a gift at all. Then the moment that cost your business lakhs to create - the new car, the new home, the big purchase - is remembered with nothing. A fragrance gift keeps that moment alive, because scent is the sense wired closest to memory: months later, your customer is still in the middle of the experience you gave them.

I trained at ISIPCA in Versailles and everything we make is built for Indian lives - car diffusers that survive a Mumbai summer, reed diffusers that hold through the monsoon, alcohol-free formulas safe to gift across every customer profile. If you run a dealership, a project, a hotel, a showroom or a team, message the bulk desk on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 - tell me the customer moment and the volumes, and I will help you design the programme myself. The business conversations are my favourite kind: one good gifting programme teaches me more about a category than a year of retail orders.

And a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali - so your customer gift quietly gives twice. That equation has always felt right to me.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the customer-gifting advice applies whatever your business finally buys.

Facts verified August 2026: Olfactory memory research shows scent-linked memories are unusually durable and emotionally vivid, which is why a used-daily fragrance gift sustains brand association in a way consumable or novelty gifts do not; customer-experience research consistently finds that peak moments (delivery, possession, checkout) disproportionately shape how the whole purchase is remembered. Fragrance preference is personal: volume gifting programmes should default to gentle fresh, green and lightly floral registers, and to space formats (diffusers, reeds, car fragrance) rather than skin perfume. SOSA range: Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance from Rs 299; car perfumes from Rs 449 (spray and hanging, alcohol-free); attars Nawaab, Ameeri, Mastani and Adaa from Rs 379 (3ml/6ml/12ml, alcohol-free); Attar Trio from Rs 1,055; perfumes from Rs 499; reed diffusers from Rs 749; Boond Rs 799, Sukoon Rs 1,799 and Megh Rs 3,499 ultrasonic diffusers; SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser Rs 3,999 (rechargeable, three hotel-inspired scents included); SOSA Vaayu waterless scent machine Rs 11,999 (~1000m³, app + timer).
