How a diffuser can irritate allergies
To be useful and honest, let me name the three separate things that can bother an allergy-prone person. They are different, and knowing which applies to you matters.
The fragrance itself
Fragrance is a well-known irritant for some people's noses and airways. A scent that is pleasant to most can trigger sneezing, congestion or a headache in someone sensitive. This is individual and not predictable from a label.
Higher humidity
More moisture in the air can, in some homes, encourage dust mites or damp - both common allergy triggers - if humidity is pushed too high. Comfortable humidity is fine; over-humidifying a closed room is not.
Mineral dust from hard water
Hard tap water leaves fine mineral particles in the mist that settle as white dust. For some people, breathing that fine dust can be an irritant. Filtered or RO water largely removes this cause.
To be completely clear: a diffuser does not filter allergens or purify the air, and I make no claim that it relieves, treats or prevents allergies. Scent is not air purification.
