The helpful part
In a dry room - air-conditioned or winter-cold - a little added moisture makes the air more comfortable to breathe and sit in. This is the humidifying benefit people buy a cool-mist diffuser for, and at sensible levels it is only good.
The risky part
Push humidity too high in a room with no airflow and moisture starts to settle on cooler surfaces - window glass, corners, behind furniture. Persistently damp surfaces are what mould and mildew grow on. This is a risk of over-humidifying any room, whatever the source.
The honest framing: the diffuser does not create mould out of nothing. It adds moisture. If you keep a room comfortably humid and ventilated, that moisture is a benefit.
