Ask an oud wearer what they want their home to feel like and the answer is usually a hotel: lamplight, polished wood, warm air, somebody else's money. That mood is amber and polished wood, not oud — and there is no oud in the SOSA range in any case, which I would rather say in the first line than the last. The good news is that the mood and the note were never the same thing, and the mood is buyable for ₹299.
Quick answers — read this first
No oud: there is none in the Hotel Collection and none anywhere in the SOSA range.

The scent: the St. Regis-inspired Old-World Glamour — amber, violet and polished woods, ₹299 for 15ml. The grand-hotel register, exactly.

The method: low output, continuous rather than blasted, one scent for the space guests arrive into.
The short answer
Short answer: the St. Regis-inspired Old-World Glamour at ₹299 for 15ml — powdery violet, warm amber and polished woods. It is the scent in the Hotel Collection that captures the grand-hotel mood an oud wearer is usually describing. There is no oud in the SOSA range, and no great hotel diffuses agarwood into a lobby either.
The pick: the St. Regis-inspired (₹299) for the arrival route and the evening rooms; the 1 Hotels-inspired Forest Suite (cedarwood, vetiver, green leaves, ₹299) for the timber-and-dry-air version; the Ritz-Carlton-inspired Quiet Luxury (₹299) for the hushed marble register. Run all of them low and continuously, three to six drops per tank.
Shop: the Hotel Collection from ₹299 and the Pack of 7 at ₹1,799. These are SOSA's own interpretations, composed in India — we are an independent house and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
Straight answer
Which hotel-inspired home fragrance suits somebody who loves oud?
1. There is no oud in the SOSA Hotel Collection, and none anywhere else in the range. Seven scents, and not one of them contains agarwood. That is the plain position and it does not change further down the page.

2. The hotel mood you are chasing is not oud either. Walk through the grand lobbies people describe as smelling expensive and you will find amber, clean wood, tea and citrus. Oud is a personal fragrance; almost nowhere diffuses it into a public room, because it is far too assertive to stand in for hours.

3. Buy the St. Regis-inspired Old-World Glamour, ₹299 for 15ml. Powdery violet, warm amber and polished woods — the suite-at-dusk register, and the closest thing the seven have to the atmosphere an oud wearer usually means.

4. Run it low and continuously rather than strong and occasionally. Three or four drops on the low setting for long stretches is what makes a scent read as belonging to a building instead of having been sprayed before somebody arrived.

5. Two ₹299 bottles is the whole effect. The St. Regis-inspired for the evening rooms and the dry 1 Hotels-inspired for the room you dress in — ₹598, and your own perfume stays the most interesting thing in the house.

A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: the St. Regis-inspired Old-World Glamour at ₹299 for 15ml. There is no oud in the range and no great hotel diffuses it either — the mood you are after is amber and polished wood, run low and left on.

The nearest in weight, and not oud
The St. Regis-inspired · Old-World Glamour ₹299 / 15ml
Powdery violet, warm amber and polished woods. It is the plushest, most evening-weighted scent in the Hotel Collection and the closest thing the range has to the mood an oud wearer usually means — resinous warmth, lamplight, a room that has been dressed. It is not oud and I will not pretend otherwise; there is no agarwood in it and none anywhere in the range. ₹299 for 15ml, ₹1,799 for 300ml at about ₹6 per millilitre.

The mood is amber and polished wood, not oud

I have spent a great deal of time standing in hotel lobbies for professional reasons, and the pattern is consistent enough to be worth stating as a rule: the buildings that smell most expensive almost never smell of the most expensive materials. What they smell of is amber, clean wood, tea and a little citrus, set low and left running for years. Oud belongs to the person walking through, not to the room they walk through — and once you see that distinction, the fact that this range contains no oud stops being an obstacle to the effect you are after and starts being part of how the effect is achieved.

1
PRINCIPLE ONE
Public rooms are scented quietly, always
A lobby scent has to be tolerable to a thousand people for fourteen hours, which rules out anything with a strong opinion. That is why the register is nearly always warm-and-clean rather than heavy: amber for depth, wood for structure, something bright at the top so it never settles. An assertive resinous note in that position would be exhausting by the second hour, which is exactly why you will not find one there. The grandeur you remember is a quiet scent kept on for a very long time, not a strong one used briefly — and the St. Regis-inspired Old-World Glamour, at ₹299 for 15ml, is composed to sit in precisely that position.
2
PRINCIPLE TWO
Low and constant beats strong and occasional
The real difference between a hotel and a home is not the fragrance, it is the duty cycle. A hotel runs a scent quietly for years; a home switches one on at full output twenty minutes before guests arrive. The first becomes the smell of the place. The second announces itself, fades, and reads as air freshener — which is the effect nobody is trying to buy.
How to copy it: three or four drops in the tank, the low setting, long runs. A Sukoon gives 16–18 hours on a 500ml fill at 30–50 ml/h, which is a whole day of consistency from one filling — and a machine that needs refilling every evening is a machine that gets used twice a week.
3
PRINCIPLE THREE
Keep the personal fragrance personal
This is where the hotel method and the oud wearer's problem meet, and it is the most useful thing on this page. Hotels separate the building from the guest deliberately: the room is a setting, and everybody who walks through it brings their own scent to stand in it. Copy that at home and the arrangement solves itself — the house carries amber and polished wood, you carry the oud, and neither has to shout over the other. Duplicate the guest in the building and you get neither. Which is why an oud wearer who does this properly ends up with a home that reads as considered and a perfume that reads as theirs.

Which of the seven captures which hotel moment

All seven Hotel Collection scents are SOSA's own interpretations of the moods of the world's finest hotels, composed in India — we are an independent house and not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand. Here is the moment each one reaches for, where it belongs in a home, and what it does for somebody who wears oud. None of the seven is oud and none is offered as a version of one; the last column is about atmosphere.

The hotel effect, in three products
The SOSA principle
Great hotels scent the building. The guest brings the oud.
Copy that division at home and both work — the room reads as considered, and the perfume stays unmistakably yours rather than becoming part of the wallpaper.

Getting the effect at home without smelling like a lobby

None of this costs more than ₹299 to begin, which is worth saying because the hotel effect is usually sold as an expensive problem when it is really a procedural one. Fix the air before you add to it. A hotel corridor is neutral before anything is diffused into it — no damp, no yesterday's cooking, no wet laundry in a closed room, no bin waiting to go out. Fragrance is a layer over whatever is already there, so a scent that is beautiful in a clean room becomes a complication in a stale one. This is the least glamorous advice in the guide and it changes the most: ventilate first, diffuse second, and you will need less fragrance to get a better result.

Then set the machine to be boring. Three or four drops of the St. Regis-inspired in a 500ml tank on the low setting and let it run — the Sukoon does 16–18 hours per fill on low and covers 270–320 sq ft, which is most Indian living rooms. Position it away from the door rather than beside it, because the point is for the room to be scented rather than for the entrance to have a moment. Keep it at waist height or above, since cool mist falls. And rinse the tank when you change scent — amber sitting under a green wood the following week produces a third smell nobody designed, and it is a particularly noticeable one when the room is meant to read as polished.

Finally, do not make every room the same. Hotels are consistent in their public spaces and deliberately different in their private ones, and that variation is a large part of why a good building feels considered. At home that means the St. Regis-inspired committed to the hall and sitting room, the 1 Hotels-inspired where you dress, and the lighter Westin-inspired in a bedroom if you want the spa register — three bottles at ₹299 each, which is ₹897 and less than most people spend on a single candle that lasts a month. The Pack of 7 at ₹1,799 covers every mood and saves ₹294 against seven singles, though I would only suggest it to somebody who genuinely enjoys deciding by nose.

Hotels do not scent a room. They scent a building, quietly, and then let the guest bring the perfume.

The SOSA edit

The hotel-inspired setup for somebody who wears oud, in the order that makes sense. The first line is most of the effect and the third — a machine that runs sixteen hours without attention — is most of the rest. Everything below that is refinement, and the last line is the one I would rather you read than discover.

4. 300ml refill Months of the committed hall scent at about ₹6 per ml Once one scent has become the address ₹1,799
5. Pack of 7 · 15ml All seven moods; ₹294 less than buying singly If you want a scent for every zone at once ₹1,799
Not made here: an oud scent No oud in the Hotel Collection or the reed line — and no lobby runs one either Worth knowing before you shop anywhere
Honest notes for buyers: the Hotel Collection is a water-based fragrance for ultrasonic diffusers only — it runs in the Sukoon, Boond and Megh, and it does not go in reed diffusers or in the waterless Vaayu and HVAC machines, which take their own undiluted oil. Reed diffusers are a separate alcohol-free line with their own scents. Use 3–6 drops per tank and rinse between scents so each stays true; never substitute raw essential or carrier oils, which clog the 2.4MHz misting plate. Where the Hotel Collection does not contain a note, this guide says so rather than stretching the nearest scent to cover it. A note from Sonal

People assume grand hotels have access to materials the rest of us cannot buy. Mostly what they have is discipline — one scent, one level, running all day, in a building somebody cleans properly. That is the entire secret, and it is available to anybody with ₹299 and a plug point.

When I composed the Old-World Glamour I was after the feeling of a suite in the evening — lamps on, wood polished, somebody's coat over a chair. Amber, powdery violet, polished woods. It is not oud, there is no oud anywhere in what we make, and I have turned down the easy version of this page more than once. Our scents are our own interpretations of those hotel moods, composed here in India; we are not connected to any hotel group, and I would rather say so plainly than let the names imply otherwise.

Everything is composed and made in India, and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. You get a home that smells like somewhere you chose; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a hotel-inspired oud fragrance from SOSA?
No. There is no oud in any of the seven Hotel Collection scents and none anywhere else in the SOSA range. The St. Regis-inspired Old-World Glamour — amber, violet and polished woods, ₹299 for 15ml — is the nearest in weight and mood, and it is a different thing rather than a stand-in.
Do luxury hotels use oud in their lobby scent?
Very rarely, and for a practical reason: a lobby scent has to remain tolerable to a great many people across a fourteen-hour day, which rules out anything as assertive as agarwood. The register you remember is generally amber, clean wood, tea and citrus, run at low output and never switched off.
How do I make my home smell like a luxury hotel?
Ventilate first, then run one scent quietly for long stretches rather than strongly in bursts. Three or four drops of the St. Regis-inspired (₹299 for 15ml) on the low setting of an ultrasonic diffuser such as the Sukoon (₹1,899, 16–18 hours per fill) is the whole method.
Are SOSA Hotel Collection scents the same as the hotels' own fragrances?
No. They are SOSA's own interpretations of those hotel moods, composed in India by an ISIPCA Versailles-trained perfumer to IFRA standards and phthalate-free. SOSA is an independent Indian fragrance house and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any hotel brand.
Which scent should I run if I wear oud and want the house to feel grand?
The St. Regis-inspired at ₹299 in the hall and sitting room, and the dry 1 Hotels-inspired at ₹299 in the room you dress in. That way the building carries the warmth and you carry the oud, which is exactly how a good hotel arranges it.
The mood, not the material
The grand-hotel register is amber and polished wood — and the oud is yours
The St. Regis-inspired Old-World Glamour is ₹299 for 15ml; the Pack of 7 covers every hotel mood for ₹1,799. SOSA's own interpretations, composed in India, with no oud in the range. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
