Founder Diaries · Diwali Budget · ₹500–₹750
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 9 min read Updated August 2026
This is the band almost nobody writes a page about, and I think that is because it is not a round number at either end. It exists anyway, for a particular reader: someone who set a ₹500 ceiling for a long Diwali list, then sorted the list and found four or five names that ₹500 no longer covers comfortably. Between ₹500 and ₹750 SOSA has exactly three price points — ₹569, ₹599 and ₹664 — and then nothing at all until the reed diffusers begin at ₹749. That empty stretch at the top is the most useful fact on this page, because it means the band ends ₹85 short of a different category of gift.
Quick answers — read this first
What SOSA sells between ₹500 and ₹750: ribbed and face ceramic mugs and taper candle sets at ₹569, bubble candles ranging ₹474–₹569, the Amber Rose candle at ₹599, the Cloud ceramic trinket dish at ₹664 and a candle two-pack at ₹664, roughly 30–36 hours between the two jars.

The band's one structural advantage: free shipping starts above ₹499, so everything here clears the line. A ₹379 jar candle and a ₹474 mug do not.

What changes inside the band: the shelf stops being purely consumable and starts offering objects the recipient keeps. A dish and a mug are permanent; a candle is not. Permanence is a taste risk.

The step at the top: nothing at SOSA is priced between ₹664 and ₹749. If your ceiling is ₹699 it is a number you invented rather than a number anything costs, and ₹50 more buys Morning Freshness 50ml, which runs 6–8 weeks.
The short answer
Short answer: in this band I would buy the Cloud trinket dish at ₹664 for a home you have actually been inside, and the Amber Rose candle at ₹599 for a household you know lights candles. The ₹569 taper sets and ribbed mugs are handsome and specific, which is a compliment and a warning at once. And if the ceiling has any give in it at all, ₹749 changes the category rather than the quality.
How the category works: a reed diffuser — the thing waiting just above this band — is a glass bottle of fragrance oil with six fibre reeds standing in it. The oil climbs the fibre and evaporates off the exposed length. No flame, no socket, no switch, nothing to operate beyond turning the reeds once a week. SOSA's start at ₹749 for 50ml, which runs 6–8 weeks. ₹749 is a floor, not a starting point.
Straight answer
What are the best Diwali gifts between ₹500 and ₹750?
1. There are three SOSA price points inside the band, not a shelf full. ₹569 buys a ribbed or face ceramic mug or a taper candle set; bubble candles run ₹474 to ₹569. ₹599 buys the Amber Rose candle. ₹664 buys either the Cloud ceramic trinket dish or a two-pack of jar candles, roughly 30–36 hours across the pair. That is the whole band.

2. Above ₹664 the band is empty. Nothing on our store is priced between ₹664 and ₹749. So the practical top of this budget is ₹664, and the next real thing is a 50ml reed diffuser at ₹749. Eighty-five rupees is the narrowest gap between two categories anywhere in the range.

3. Everything in this band clears free shipping. Free delivery starts above ₹499, so a ₹569 or ₹664 gift arrives without a delivery charge on top, where a ₹379 candle or a ₹474 mug does not. Across nine or ten gifts that is not a rounding error, and it is the one piece of logistics I can state.

4. This is where the shelf turns permanent, and that is the risk. A candle burns down and leaves nothing to store. A dish and a mug stay. A permanent object is a choice you have made about someone else's table, and if you have never been inside their home, you are guessing on their behalf.

5. The two ₹664 options are opposite in character. The candle two-pack is a consumable bought in a quantity that reads as considered; the trinket dish is a single kept object. Same price, different bet entirely.

6. The ₹569 items are the most specific things here. Taper candles need a holder, which is not included and which many homes do not own. A face mug has a personality. Specific is wonderful for one name you know well and poor for eight you don't.

7. What I would actually do. For the two or three names that pulled you out of the ₹500 band, spend the extra ₹85 and buy the diffuser: nothing else on the circuit will be in that category, it needs nothing bought to go with it, and it runs 6–8 weeks. For everyone else, ₹664 in candles is honest and complete.

Everything is composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
TL;DR: the ₹500–₹750 band at SOSA is three price points — ₹569, ₹599 and ₹664 — and then a gap. All of it ships free, because the line is ₹499. The band's character is permanence, which is a taste risk. If the ceiling can stretch ₹85, ₹749 changes the category rather than the quality.
SOSA Cloud ceramic trinket dish, the top of the ₹500 to ₹750 Diwali gift band at ₹664
The ceiling of the band
SOSA Cloud ceramic trinket dish ₹664
The most expensive thing SOSA sells below the reed diffusers, and the only item in this band that is neither wax nor fragrance. A small white ceramic dish for the things that collect at the edge of a room — keys, rings, a watch, the earrings that come off at the door. It is complete on arrival: nothing has to be bought, nothing has to be lit, and it does not run out. That last quality is also its argument against itself, because a permanent object has to earn a place on a surface that is already full. I would give it to a home I have stood inside, and not to eight colleagues.

Part one — why this band opens at all

Nobody sets out with a ₹500–₹750 budget. It is not a number anyone decides on; it is a number people arrive at, about an hour after they have written down the list. You set one ceiling for everybody, then you sort the list, and the sorting reveals that one ceiling was never going to be right. Three or four names look different from the rest — not more important, necessarily, but closer, or more visible, or attached to a home you have eaten a meal in. Those names push upward, and the first place they push to is this band.

1
THE ORIGIN · A SORTED LIST
This band is what a ₹500 ceiling turns into once you look at the names
A single ceiling across a whole list is an efficiency, and a reasonable way to start. It stops being reasonable the moment you notice the list contains two different kinds of obligation. There are names you include so that nobody is left out, and names you would buy for even if the festival did not exist. The first kind wants a ceiling; the second kind wants a decision. This band is what happens when the second kind gets its decision but the household budget has not grown. It is a compromise band, and compromises are not shameful — but the version that goes wrong is the one where you quietly raise the ceiling for everybody and spend a third more without anybody's gift improving.
The test: if raising your ceiling would raise it for all fourteen names, you have not sorted the list — you have inflated it.
2
THE SHELF · WHAT IS ACTUALLY IN THE BAND
Three price points, and then a stretch of nothing
SOSA Cloud ceramic trinket dish for Diwali gifting at ₹664Cloud trinket dish₹664At ₹569 there are ribbed and face ceramic mugs and taper candle sets, with bubble candles spanning ₹474 to ₹569. At ₹599 there is the Amber Rose candle. At ₹664 there are two quite different things — the Cloud ceramic trinket dish and a two-pack of jar candles giving roughly 30–36 hours across the pair. Then the band simply stops. There is no SOSA product between ₹664 and ₹749. A price list is not a spectrum; it is a set of decisions somebody made about what to manufacture, and the gap at the top of this band exists because ₹749 is where a different kind of object begins.
3
THE ARITHMETIC · THE LINE AT ₹499
This is the first band where delivery stops being your problem
Free shipping on our store starts above ₹499, and that single fact reshapes the bottom of the ladder more than most buyers notice. A ₹379 candle and a ₹474 mug both sit below the line; every item in this band sits above it. So the true distance between the ₹474 shelf and the ₹569 shelf is smaller than ₹95 once delivery is counted, and the distance between ₹664 and ₹749 is exactly ₹85 with no delivery difference at all, because both clear the line. If you are buying several gifts, place one consolidated order rather than a string of small ones.
The rule: compare gifts at the price they land at, not the price on the label. Below ₹499 those are two different numbers.

Part two — the three price points, audited

Here is everything in the band, judged on the two questions that actually decide a Diwali gift: whether the recipient has to do anything for it to work, and whether it goes away when it is finished.

The ₹500–₹750 audit
Six things, three prices, and what each one is quietly asking for
In-band price What it is Consumable or kept What has to be true of the home Why you would stop here
₹664 · Cloud trinket dish A small white ceramic dish, complete on arrival Kept — permanently A surface with room on it, and taste you can guess at You have been inside the home and it is the top of the band
₹664 · candle two-pack Two jar candles, roughly 30–36 hours between them Consumable — gone in a season Somebody in it lights candles You want quantity to read as considered rather than large
₹599 · Amber Rose candle A single hand-poured jar candle, warmer than the ₹379 four Consumable The same — a household that strikes a match One name, one candle, no explanation needed
₹569 · ribbed or face ceramic mug A mug with a shape and a personality Kept, and used most days if it lands well Cupboard space, and a tolerance for a mug with an opinion You know their kitchen and their humour
₹569 · taper candle set Tapers — handsome, and not free-standing Consumable, but only once a holder exists They own candle holders, which most homes do not Only when you have seen the holders
₹474–₹569 · bubble candles Sculptural candles that want a plate or tray under them Consumable, often kept unlit as an object A flat surface they are willing to give up Decorative intent, openly acknowledged
The honest caveat: nothing in this band is a poor object, and I make all of it. What it cannot do is escape its own ceiling. Every item here is wax, ceramic or both, so it competes directly with the most crowded categories on an Indian Diwali table, and a household that never lights a candle is left holding a jar. Eighty-five rupees above the band the argument changes — not because the object is better made, but because a glass bottle of fragrance oil with six fibre reeds is a category almost nobody else on your circuit will be carrying. Fragrance oil is flammable, so wherever it ends up, keep it well away from diyas and any open flame; that is a handling fact, not a warning about the product.

The band and the two prices on either side of it
The SOSA principle
A budget band with round numbers at both ends is a band drawn by the buyer. Price lists have gaps in them, and the gaps are where the categories change.
Between ₹664 and ₹749 there is nothing, because that is the seam between wax and glass. Buying at the top of a band means buying right up against a seam you cannot see.

Part three — when the band is right, and when to leave it

Let me argue for the band before I argue against it, because there are readers for whom it is exactly correct. If the gift is going to a household you know well enough to have noticed what they light, what they drink from and what is already on their side table, this band is the most efficient money on the whole ladder. A ₹599 candle for the aunt who has candles going every evening is a better gift than a ₹749 bottle she has to find a shelf for, and I say that as the person who makes the ₹749 bottle. Specificity beats category novelty when you have the information. The trouble is that most Diwali gifting happens without it, and this band punishes that hardest, because everything in it is either something to burn or something to keep — and both require you to know the room it is going into.

The band is wrong in two situations. The first is quantity. If you are buying six or eight of one thing, the specificity that makes ₹569 and ₹599 good becomes a liability: a face mug is a delight for one person and an oddity handed to eight, and a taper set is a small logistical problem repeated eight times, because tapers do not stand up on their own and a holder is not included. At quantity you want the least specific correct thing, not the most charming one. The second situation is when you have no picture of the home at all — a colleague's flat you have never visited, a relative in another city, the family your parents are close to and you are not. Here a permanent object is a decision made on somebody else's behalf about a surface you have never seen, and a consumable that finishes is simply kinder. It leaves no ornament they must display when you next visit and no debt they feel obliged to repay.

And then there is the ₹85, which I want to put carefully, because it is an observation about price ladders rather than a sales line. The step from ₹664 to ₹749 is the smallest step between two adjacent gifts anywhere in our range, and also the largest change in what the gift is. Below the seam you are buying wax or ceramic — objects that overlap heavily with what four other guests will carry through the same door that week. Above it you are buying a sealed glass bottle of fragrance oil with six fibre reeds, alcohol-free and phthalate-free on a heat-stable base, tested through 45°C heat and 85% humidity, which runs 6–8 weeks and needs nothing bought to go with it. I will not tell you it will be remembered or that it will impress anybody; I have no way of knowing that. I will only say that ₹85 is a strange amount of money to protect a ceiling you invented.

The gaps in a price list are not oversights. They are the places where one kind of object ends and another begins.

Part four — six reasons for being here, six answers

People arrive in this band from different directions, and the right purchase depends far more on why you are here than on what the number is. Six routes in, and what I would do at the end of each.

The ₹500–₹750 decision
Why you are in the band, and whether you should stay in it
Your reason for being in this band What I would buy Cost When I would break the band instead
Three names got promoted off a ₹500 list ★ Morning Freshness 50ml, for those three only 3 × ₹749 = ₹2,247 Break it. ₹85 × 3 = ₹255 is the cheapest promotion available
You have been inside the home and seen the surfaces Cloud trinket dish ₹664 Stay. Information beats category — this is the band's best case
They light candles every evening, you have watched them do it Amber Rose, or the ₹664 two-pack for a longer run ₹599 or ₹664 Stay. A candle for a candle household is the correct gift
Six or eight identical gifts, all in this band Sandalwood jar candle below the band, or the diffuser above it ₹449 each, or ₹749 each Break it either way. Quantity wants the least specific correct thing
Your ceiling is ₹699 and it feels non-negotiable Nothing exists at ₹699 — buy at ₹664 or at ₹749 ₹664 or ₹749 Break it. ₹699 is a number you chose, not a number anything costs
You want the gift to still be there in six weeks Morning Freshness or Garden Bloom 50ml ₹749 or ₹799 Break it. 6–8 weeks is stated life; a candle's 15–18 hours is not the same measure
Honest notes for buyers: SOSA has no product priced between ₹664 and ₹749, and the least expensive reed diffuser is ₹749 — nothing below that price is a reed diffuser, in any size. Taper candles and bubble candles need a holder or a stable dish that is not included in the box, and wax melts at ₹474 need a burner the recipient may not own; a jar candle, a mug, the trinket dish and a reed diffuser are complete as they arrive, though a diffuser should stand on a tray because the oil marks wood and stone. SOSA sells no gift card, gift hamper, gift box or curated gift set, publishes no bulk pricing, no discount slab, no minimum order quantity and no lead time, and I can make no promise about delivery timing anywhere on this page — if you are buying in quantity, ask through the contact page rather than assuming terms that do not exist. Free shipping starts above ₹499. Fragrance oil is flammable: keep any diffuser well away from diyas, candles and open flame, and never leave a burning candle unattended. A reed diffuser adds fragrance to a room; it does not clean air or remove cooking or smoke smells. Composed and handmade in small batches in Pune, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
SOSA Morning Freshness reed diffuser 50ml at ₹749, eighty-five rupees above the ₹500 to ₹750 band
Eighty-five rupees above the ceiling
SOSA Morning Freshness · Malabar lemon, peppermint & Nilgiri eucalyptus ₹749 / 50ml
The first thing above the band, and the reason the band ends where it does. A refillable glass bottle of fragrance oil with six fibre reeds — no flame, no socket, nothing to switch on, nothing else to buy. It runs 6–8 weeks from the day it is stood up, and the only maintenance is turning the reeds over once a week. Lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus make it the brightest and least polarising composition in the range, which is why it is the one I would send to a home I have never been inside. Alcohol-free, phthalate-free and paraben-free on a heat-stable CCT base, tested through 45°C heat and 85% humidity. The 130ml is ₹1,249 and runs 14–18 weeks. Stand it on a tray — the oil marks wood and stone — and keep it away from open flame.

A note from Sonal

I have been asked more than once why we do not put something at ₹699. The answer is unglamorous: nothing we make costs ₹699 to make. Prices in a small-batch business come out of materials, glass, wax weight and how many of a thing we can pour in a week — not out of what would sit neatly in a search box. The ₹664 dish and the ₹749 diffuser are two entirely different manufacturing problems, and the gap between the number you had in mind and the number on the label is an artefact of that, not a marketing decision.

What I have noticed about this band, watching orders across several Diwalis, is that it splits into two kinds of buyer. One has real information about the person — they know the mug will be used, they know candles get lit in that house — and for them the band is the best value we sell. The other has a spreadsheet and a ceiling, and for them the band is a place they pass through on the way to deciding something else. Both are fine. It is only worth knowing which one you are before you add six of something to a basket.

I will not tell you that any of this will impress anyone or be remembered; I do not know your family and I would be inventing. What I can tell you is what each thing is made of, how long it lasts, what it needs from the person receiving it and where our price list has holes in it. Everything is made in Pune in small batches, and a part of every order funds a girl's classroom through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

Does SOSA sell a reed diffuser between ₹500 and ₹750?
No. The least expensive reed diffuser is Morning Freshness 50ml at ₹749, and there is no smaller size and no cheaper scent. Inside the ₹500–₹750 band the range is candles, ceramic mugs and the Cloud trinket dish at ₹664.
What is the most expensive SOSA gift under ₹749?
₹664, and there are two of them: the Cloud ceramic trinket dish and a two-pack of jar candles giving roughly 30–36 hours across the pair. Nothing sits between ₹664 and ₹749, so ₹664 is the practical ceiling of this band.
Is the ₹664 candle two-pack better value than one ₹599 candle?
On burn hours, yes — two jars give roughly 30–36 hours where a single jar gives 15–18. Whether it is the better gift depends on what you want it to read as. Two of something reads as a considered pair; one Amber Rose reads as a single chosen object. Neither is better; they are different gestures at nearly the same price.
Do taper candles come with a holder?
No. Tapers at ₹569 do not stand up on their own and no holder is included, so they only work in a home that already owns one — which many do not. If you have not seen holders in the house, a jar candle is the safer purchase at any price in this band, because a jar is complete as it arrives.
Is it worth going ₹85 over budget to reach ₹749?
That is your decision, but here is the honest comparison. At ₹664 you are buying wax or ceramic, both common categories on an Indian Diwali table. At ₹749 you are buying a glass bottle of fragrance oil with six fibre reeds that needs nothing else bought, asks nothing beyond a weekly flip, and has a stated life of 6–8 weeks. Both orders ship free, since the line is ₹499. If the ceiling was a round number you chose rather than money you do not have, the ₹85 is the cheapest category change available.
