Founder Diaries · Reed Diffuser & Home Fragrance Gifting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 11 min read Updated September 2026
A one-off gift is bought on what is published. A standing gift is bought on what is not. Choose a machine once and any gap in the specification is a single conversation with one household; choose it for every handover and the same gap comes back every time, with a different family on the other end of it. So the evaluation worth doing is the unusual one. Not what SOSA Vaayu does, which is published in more detail than almost anything else in home fragrance, but what SOSA does not publish about it, and whether a run of handovers can live with each gap in turn.
SOSA Vaayu waterless cold-air scent machine, Rs 11,999
SOSA Vaayu · 400ml refillable tank · complete in the box ₹11,999 →
The machine under evaluation, and the two published facts that make it repeatable at all. SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999 is supplied with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each, so nothing further has to be bought on day one, and it is scheduled in 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour windows on chosen days, so it can be set around an occupancy nobody controls. Published for up to 1000 m3, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, running under 38 dB.
Quick answers — read this first
What should a builder or design studio evaluate before making a scent machine a recurring handover gift? The gaps first, because a repeated gift repeats them. There is no single tank-life figure: the product page states the life of a 400ml fill as about 75 days in its specification data and 90 or more in its body copy. There is also no figure for what a second machine adds, no installation service, no warranty period, no published running cost, and no app name or supported-phone list.

Does one machine suit every home you hand over? Only where the plans are similar. A coverage rating assumes one connected body of air, and the published figure is up to 1000 m3, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. A project of open-plan apartments is a repeatable case. A mix of villas with doors closed between their spaces is not, and reed diffusers from ₹749 are the honest answer in those.

Can we order in quantity and put our name on it? Orders in quantity are welcome, and every quantity question is settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA publishes no rate, no minimum quantity and nothing about timing, and there is no formal trade programme and no account to open. Branding is exactly one thing: a custom label or logo on the product.
The short answer
Short answer: Evaluate the gaps before the specification. Tank life is published two ways, about 75 days in one place and 90 or more in another, and there is no multi-unit guidance, no installation service, no warranty period and no published running cost. SOSA Vaayu is Rs 11,999.
The pick: Vaayu at ₹11,999 as a standing gift only where the homes you hand over share a plan, and reeds from ₹749 wherever that plan is a set of closed rooms instead.
Why: It arrives complete with four 100 ml fragrances, it runs under 38 dB and it is scheduled rather than always on. The gaps are real, they are listed here, and they are the part of the decision that repeats.
Sending something when somebody is having a hard time - at a glanceKeep it small - candle ₹399, attar ₹379, car scent ₹449For their home - reed diffuser ₹749, nothing to switch onSay the words yourself - no card goes in the parcelNever - a parcel instead of turning up
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
Straight answer
Before a builder or design studio makes scent machines a recurring handover gift, what should they actually evaluate?
Six things SOSA does not publish, and two that it does. The six gaps: there is no single tank-life figure, because the product page states the life of a 400ml fill as about 75 days in its specification data and 90 or more in its body copy; there is no figure for what a second machine adds; there is no installation service, only freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting as published options; there is no warranty period and no service interval; there is no published running cost, although DC 12V / 1A and 5W are published; and there is no app name and no list of supported phones. Every one of those is a single question on a one-off gift and a recurring question on a standing one. The two published facts that decide it: SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is waterless cold-air diffusion producing a dry residue-free mist with no water and no heat, published for up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours with day scheduling and adjustable intensity, under 38 dB, 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, black or white, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, made in India, and supplied with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each. Those two facts are the case for it as a repeatable gift: it is complete on the day and it can be scheduled around an occupancy nobody controls. A coverage rating assumes one connected body of air, so it repeats only across homes whose plans repeat. And fragrance adds a scent to a space: it does not remove, neutralise or purify one, and it does not clean the air. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The specification is not the risk. The same six unpublished facts, arriving at every handover, are the risk - and four of the six can be settled in one message.
What actually repeats well: Vaayu at ₹11,999 across homes with similar plans, because it is complete in the box and scheduled rather than always on. Reeds from ₹749 wherever the plan is a set of closed rooms.

The six gaps, the plan test, and what can be agreed in advance

Three passes, run in this order, because the last one is easy and the first one is what people skip.

1
The gaps
The six things SOSA does not publish, in the order they reach you
One. There is no single tank-life figure. The product page states the life of a 400ml fill as about 75 days in its specification data and 90 or more in its body copy, and either way it depends on the intensity setting and the scheduled hours. On a one-off gift that is a curiosity. On a standing gift it is the sentence that decides what your own handover note can honestly say about refilling, so ask on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 rather than printing a number.

Two, three and four. There is no published figure for what a second machine adds, so a joined volume larger than the rating is a conversation rather than a calculation. There is no installation service; freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting is published as an option, and who fits it is not. And there is no warranty period, no service interval and no filter published anywhere.

Five and six. There is no published running cost - DC 12V / 1A and 5W are published, what it costs to run is not - and there is no app name and no list of supported phones. Both of those are perfectly livable on a single gift, and both are worth settling before committing to repeat it, because the household that wonders will ask you rather than the product page.
Tip: A one-off gift meets a gap once. A standing gift meets the same gap at every handover.
2
The plan test
A repeatable gift needs repeatable plans
This is the pass that decides whether a standing gift is even coherent. Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated on the product page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. Read it strictly, because a rating assumes one connected body of air. The published figure is cubic and the square-foot line is a translation that assumes an ordinary ceiling, so a double-height hall corresponds to roughly half the floor.

So sort your own handovers by plan rather than by value. A run of open-plan apartments where the entrance, living and dining are one volume is a genuinely repeatable case, and the same object works in every one of them. A mix that includes villas is not repeatable, because a house of enclosures behind doors is not one volume whatever its total area, and a machine sized for joined air does not reach through a closed door.

Where the plan does not support it, the honest standing gift is smaller. Reed diffusers from ₹749 or a duo set from ₹1,498 work in one enclosure at a time, about 6 to 10 weeks, with nothing to plug in and nobody needed in the building. That also solves the occupancy problem, which is real on handovers: keys often change hands weeks before anybody moves in.
3
The commitment
What can and cannot be agreed in advance
On quantity, nothing can be quoted. Orders in quantity are welcome, and SOSA publishes no rate, no minimum quantity and nothing at all about timing. There is no formal trade programme, no account to open and no catalogue of terms to sign. Every quantity question is settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531, which is the only enquiry route SOSA runs.

On branding, exactly one thing exists. A custom label or logo on the product itself. That is the whole of it, and a page that implied anything further would be describing a service SOSA does not run.

And on what the gift is doing, keep the claim narrow. The mechanism is that a household walks into a finished home and there is a scent in it, and that it can be set to be there on the day rather than for the month before. Nothing beyond that is published and nothing beyond it is claimed here. It is also worth saying that a home finished recently holds paint, polish and adhesive, and the answer to that is ventilation and time: fragrance adds a scent to a space, it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify a smell, and it does not clean the air.
Tip: Quantity, branding and the claim all have exactly one honest answer each. None of them is a number.
SOSA Vaayu, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted
Read the number strictly, not generously
About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of air that is actually connected
Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. The caveat matters more than the number. A rating assumes one connected body of air. A ground floor that runs living into dining into a stairwell is one volume and is exactly what the figure describes. A bungalow of the same total area with six closed doors is not one volume, it is six rooms, and the figure does not transfer. Work out how much of the house is genuinely open before you work out anything else - and note that no guidance is published on what a second unit adds.
See SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 →
Work it out in this order
How to evaluate this properly before committing to it
  1. Write down the six unpublished facts before you read the specification at all.
  2. Ask on WhatsApp what a 400ml fill lasts. The page states it two different ways.
  3. Sort your handovers by plan, because a coverage figure assumes joined air.
  4. Settle quantity and any custom label on WhatsApp. No numbers are published.
The SOSA principle
A gift given once is judged on what is published about it. A gift given every time is judged on what is not, because every unpublished fact eventually arrives as a question from a household you handed keys to.
Which is why this evaluation runs the wrong way round on purpose: read the gaps first, decide whether you can live with each of them, and only then read the specification, which is the easy part and the part that sells itself.

What the machine runs on, and which bottle is actually the right one

There are three published four-scent sets and all three cost the same ₹11,999, so the choice is taste rather than budget. They pair Ritz-Carlton with Westin, St. Regis and 1 Hotels inspirations; Westin with Shangri-La, Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton; and St. Regis with W Hotels, 1 Hotels and Four Seasons. Worth stating plainly: these are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations, composed by SOSA, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. For a recurring gift the four-bottle box is the strongest argument in the specification, because it means nothing further has to be bought on day one and no household is handed a decision along with the keys. The published refills afterwards are SOSA waterless nebuliser oils at ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm. One caution worth writing into your own notes: the store also carries water-based bottles under a similar name, and those belong to the ultrasonic machines. A waterless machine takes water-free oil, and anything beyond the nebuliser refills goes to WhatsApp.

The SOSA gift edit
Four ways to standardise this, and where each one gives out
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
SOSA Vaayu as the standard gift · ₹11,999 Complete in the box with four 100 ml fragrances, under 38 dB, scheduled in 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour windows so it can start when the family does. It gives out the moment your handovers stop sharing a plan, because a coverage figure assumes joined air, and it carries six unpublished facts that recur at every handover.
Reed diffusers as the standard gift · ₹749 to ₹1,349 The most genuinely repeatable option here, because it needs no plan test and no operator: about 6 to 10 weeks, nothing to plug in, and it works in a home nobody has moved into. It gives out where the gift is expected to read as substantial, and in a large joined volume it reaches only the area around it.
A reed duo set as the standard gift · ₹1,498 to ₹2,598 Two bottles in one box, repeatable across any plan, and the version that reads as an occasion at a handover table. Three pairings are published and none is composed to order. It gives out if somebody expected to choose the pairing, or expected two bottles to serve a whole ground floor, which they cannot.
Deciding case by case · no fixed answer Honest, and it produces the right object more often than any standard does, because the plan and the move-in date genuinely differ between homes. It gives out on effort: somebody has to read a plan and ask a question every single time, and that is the cost you are trying to remove by standardising.

The two details that matter in a finished house
Under 38 dB, and it runs only when you tell it to
Two published details decide whether this belongs in a house somebody spent years on. It runs under 38 dB, which is the answer to the reasonable worry about a machine humming in a double-height living room. And it is scheduled: Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days and adjustable intensity, with auto-stop and a key-lock. That is what makes it workable in a house occupied for part of the year, or a room used only when people come over. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, and it ships with four 100 ml fragrances - so it is complete on the day it arrives.
See the nebuliser refills from ₹1,049 →

Two placements to get right before anything is standardised. SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft and is built for a hotel, a showroom or a corporate floor, so it belongs in a clubhouse or a sales lounge rather than in a handover box; the catalogue holds nothing between the two. Below Vaayu, Boond at ₹899, Sukoon at ₹1,899 and Megh at ₹5,999 are water-based ultrasonic machines for a single space and need water and regular refilling, which is a weekly ask of a household that did not choose the machine and a poor fit for a gift. SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 or ₹4,499 is cordless and portable and travels with a person to a car rather than scenting a property; its country of origin is China. None of those is a worse product. They answer different questions from the one on this page.

The number this whole decision turns on, and where it stops being true
Up to 1000 m3 - about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of connected air
SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing else in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated on the product page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. It is a waterless cold-air machine producing a dry, residue-free mist with no water and no heat, running under 38 dB on DC 12V / 1A at 5W, with a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity, plus auto-stop and a key-lock. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, in black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, and its country of origin is India. But a coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. That figure describes an open-plan living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall - the kind of volume a small passive bottle cannot reach. It does not describe a bungalow with every internal door closed, because that is not one volume; it is six. Above about 3,000 sq ft of genuinely connected space, or across separated wings, the honest answer is a conversation rather than a number, because no multi-unit guidance is published. SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft and is a commercial machine rather than a house gift.

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.

A coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. Vaayu's figure describes an open-plan volume - a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall. A house with every internal door shut is not one volume, and the figure does not transfer to it. Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, and its country of origin is India. Fragrance adds a scent to a space; it does not remove, neutralise or purify one, and the dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue rather than about air quality. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and quantities are settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

The honest spec sheet
What the Vaayu page publishes, and what it does not
Everything below is on the live product page. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
  • Coverage - up to 1000 m3, published as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. A rating assumes one connected body of air, so it describes an open-plan floor rather than a house of closed rooms.
  • The machine - waterless cold-air diffusion, dry and residue-free, no water and no heat. 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm, 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted. DC 12V / 1A, 5W. Under 38 dB. Auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS. Country of origin India.
  • Control - a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity. This is what makes it workable in a house that is empty for stretches, or a room used only at weekends.
  • In the box - every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets, all at ₹11,999. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
  • The fragrance - alcohol-free, water-free oils formulated for cold-air diffusion. SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm and are published for Vaayu and Safar. The water-based ultrasonic bottles belong to a different kind of machine.
  • Not published, and therefore never stated here: how long a 400ml fill lasts as a single figure - the page says about 75 days in one place and 90 or more in another; what a second unit adds; any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; and any running or electricity cost. Those go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

A note from Sonal

The messages I find hardest to answer are the ones that begin with an apology. They have just finished building the house. I don't want to sound cheap, but I also can't buy them anything that matters at that scale. And underneath it is a real anxiety: that after years of drawings and delays and site visits, whatever you turn up with will look like a token.

What I would say is that the anxiety is aimed at the wrong thing. You are not competing with the house. Nobody is. The people who built it spent two years choosing between four shades of the same stone, and there is no object you can hand over that will register on that scale. Trying is how people end up buying a vase that gets moved to a spare room.

The reason I keep coming back to scent for these particular houses is unromantic. It is the last layer, and it is the only one nobody planned. An architect resolves the volume, a designer resolves the surfaces, a lighting consultant resolves the evening, and then everybody stops - because scent is not on anybody's drawing. So it is one of the few things left that adds to a finished house without arguing with a single decision already made in it.

The part I would be careful about is the number. Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does, and I would rather you read it strictly than generously. About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, of air that is actually connected. A ground floor that opens living into dining into a stairwell is that. A bungalow with six closed doors is not that, whatever its total square footage says on paper, and a page that blurs the two is doing you no favours.

Frequently asked questions

How long does one 400 ml fill of oil last?
There is no single published figure, and that is the first thing to evaluate. The product page states about 75 days in its specification data and 90 or more days in its body copy, and either way it depends on the intensity setting and how many hours a day it is scheduled to run. Ask SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 rather than printing a number in your own handover note.
Can one machine be specified across every home we hand over?
Only where those homes share a plan. The published figure is up to 1000 cubic metres, stated as approximately 2,000 to 3,000 square feet, and a coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. A run of open-plan apartments repeats well. A mix that includes villas of separate spaces behind doors does not, and no guidance is published on what a second machine would add.
What else is not published that we should know about in advance?
There is no installation service, no warranty period, no service interval and no filter. There is no published running cost, although DC 12V / 1A and 5W are published. There is no app name and no list of supported phones, and no Bluetooth range. Those are exactly the questions a household will bring back to you rather than to the product page, which is why they belong in the evaluation.
Can a builder or studio order in quantity, and can the product carry our name?
Orders in quantity are welcome. SOSA publishes no rate, no minimum quantity and nothing about timing, and there is no formal trade programme and no account to open, so every quantity question is settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. Branding is exactly one thing: a custom label or logo on the product.
Will it deal with the smell of a home finished last month?
No. Fragrance adds a scent to a space; it does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify a smell, and it does not clean the air. A home that still holds paint, polish or adhesive needs ventilation and time. The dry, residue-free mist is a statement about residue on surfaces, not about air quality, and it is worth saying so before a household assumes otherwise.

Four of the six unpublished facts can be settled in one message: what a 400ml fill actually lasts, what happens above the rating, what SOSA does and does not do about fitting, and what is possible on quantity and a custom label. Vaayu at ₹11,999 where your handovers share a plan. Reed diffusers from ₹749 where they do not, because a bottle needs no plan test and nobody in the building.

About the coverage figure: a rating assumes one connected body of air. The published figure describes an open-plan volume such as a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level or a double-height hall, and does not describe a property whose rooms are separated by closed doors, whatever its total floor area. No guidance is published on what a second unit adds. About tank life: the Vaayu product page states the life of one 400 ml fill in two different ways - approximately 75 days in its specification and FAQ data, and 90 or more days in its body copy - and in either case it depends on the intensity setting and the scheduled hours, so no single figure is stated on this page. What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; any running or electricity cost; and any multi-unit coverage. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a space. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify odour, it does not clean the air, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial or air-purifying claim; a dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue and not about air quality. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep or wellbeing, nor about how any recipient or guest will feel, nor about what a gift does for any business result. No page here characterises any recipient's wealth or describes people who own particular kinds of property; where a property value appears it is the figure the reader themselves supplied as context. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city.
