What a spa scent really is
When people ask for a spa scent, what they are really after is a feeling - calm, clean, unhurried. A spa achieves that with every sense at once, and scent is one quiet part of it. The fragrance is always soft and clean, never a strong perfume, because the whole point is to feel settled rather than stimulated.
I want to be honest about the word spa, because it gets stretched. A scent can make a room feel spa-like - clean, calm, restful. It is not aromatherapy in a medical sense, it does not treat anything, and I will not dress it up as more than it is. What it honestly offers is a calming ambience, which is a lovely thing to come home to and enough on its own.
The scents that carry that ambience are the clean, quiet ones. White Tea Serenity is my Westin-inspired spa-clean interpretation - white tea, aloe and cedar. Tea Garden is the Shangri-La-inspired one, serene and softly floral with jasmine and green tea. Both feel calm and fresh rather than sweet, which is exactly the spa brief.
A spa scent works by being barely there. The moment a fragrance becomes strong or sweet, the calm breaks. Run it low, keep it clean, and let the quiet do as much work as the scent.
Building a spa corner at home
You do not need a dedicated room - a quiet, uncluttered corner, a soft light and a gently running diffuser is enough to make a space feel spa-like.

Versailles
I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, but half the questions we get are not about scent at all - they are about the machine.
