The reason candles stop working at a certain size is worth naming precisely, because it also tells you what to buy instead. A candle is a point source. It scents the area around itself, and where people are spread across a living area, a dining area, a terrace door and a passage, you would need one in each - each one needing a flame and somebody to light it. That is not a criticism of candles; it is simply what the format is. The alternative is one source with reach, and reach is a published specification rather than a matter of opinion.
Two sizes of answer. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is the one with published reach - waterless cold-air diffusion, up to 1000 m3, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, under 38 dB, 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour windows on chosen days, four 100 ml fragrances in the box. SOSA Megh at ₹5,999, pictured, is the water-based single-room machine, and it needs water kept in it and regular refilling.
Quick answers — read this first
What can you use instead of candles in a large party space? One source with published reach rather than several point sources. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 is a waterless cold-air diffuser published for up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, with 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour run windows on chosen days, adjustable intensity and operation under 38 dB. It comes in the box with four 100 ml fragrances.
Why do candles stop working in a space where people move around? Because a candle is a point source: it scents the area around it and no further. Across several connected areas you would need one in each, and every one of them needs a flame and somebody to light it, which is simply what the format is. No burn-hour figure is published for SOSA candles, which start at ₹399.
Does the coverage figure apply to a party space? It applies when the areas people move through are one connected body of air - living running into dining, out to a terrace door, with nothing shut between. That is exactly the case the about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft figure describes. Where the party is confined to one closed room, the rating is over-specified and Megh at ₹5,999 is the honest size.
The short answer
Short answer: Replace several point sources with one source that has published reach. A candle scents the area around it and needs a flame and somebody to light it, which is what the format is. SOSA Vaayu is Rs 11,999 for up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, under 38 dB, with 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour windows on chosen days, and four 100 ml fragrances in the box.
The pick: A SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 when the areas people move through are one connected volume - which is the ordinary case for a party space, and the case the published figure describes.
Why: It is one source with published reach rather than several that each need lighting, it runs under 38 dB where people are talking, it schedules to the days the space is used, and it comes in the box complete.
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
What can you use instead of candles in a party space where guests move everywhere?
Name the problem precisely first, because it is a dispersion problem rather than a fragrance problem. A candle is a point source. It works on the area immediately around it, so across a living area, a dining area and a terrace door you would need several, and each one needs a flame and somebody to light it - which is simply what the format is, not a fault in it. No burn-hour figure is published for SOSA candles, which start at ₹399. The alternative is one source with reach, and reach is the thing SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 actually publishes: waterless cold-air diffusion producing a dry residue-free mist with no water and no heat, up to 1000 m3 of connected air, stated on the page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours with day scheduling and adjustable intensity, under 38 dB, DC 12V / 1A at 5W, 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm at 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, made in India, and four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each in the box. This is the topic in this set where the coverage figure most often does apply, because a space guests move freely through is usually one connected body of air - that is what makes it a party space rather than a room. Where the gathering is confined to a single closed room, the rating is over-specified and the honest answers are Sukoon at ₹1,899 or Megh at ₹5,999, both water-based and needing water and refilling, or a bottle at ₹749. One limit to state: an enclosed volume shares its air, so a scent present in it is part of the space on entering, and that is a fact about volumes rather than a claim about anybody. Fragrance adds a scent; it does not remove, neutralise or purify one, and the residue-free mist is a statement about residue on surfaces rather than about air quality. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
The question is not which fragrance suits a party. It is how far a single source has to reach, and that turns out to be one of the few things in home fragrance with a published number attached.
The straight answer: Vaayu at ₹11,999 - one source published for up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, under 38 dB, scheduled on chosen days, four 100 ml fragrances in the box.
Point sources versus reach, and how to count the volume you are actually buying for
Three things: why the format fails at this size, how to count the volume you are buying for, and what is published about the machine that replaces it.
1
The format
A candle is a point source, and that is the whole issue
It is worth being fair to candles, because the problem here is scale rather than quality. A candle does a specific job extremely well: it scents the area around itself and it is a visible object on a surface, which is half of why people like them. At a table, on a counter, beside a chair, it is exactly right.
What it cannot do is reach. Across several connected areas you would need one in each, and each one needs a flame and somebody to light it, which is simply what the format is. That means a person walking round before people come, and another person noticing later. No burn-hour figure is published for SOSA candles, which start at ₹399, so there is no published number to plan an evening around either.
So the honest statement is narrow: candles are a poor fit for a large connected space where people move, and a good fit for a defined surface in it. Those two things can both be true, and the second one is a perfectly reasonable small gift on its own terms.
Tip: Not impractical because they are candles. Impractical because a point source cannot cover a moving crowd.
2
The volume
Count the areas people move through, then count the doors
This is the measurement the decision rests on, and it is a walk rather than a sum. Vaayu publishes up to 1000 m3, stated on the product page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. The published figure is cubic, and the square-foot line is a translation that assumes an ordinary ceiling; double the height and it is roughly half the floor plate. Crucially, it describes one connected body of air.
For this topic that is unusually likely to be satisfied. A space people move freely through is, almost by definition, connected - living opening into dining, opening onto a terrace door or a passage, with nothing shut between them. That is the case the figure is written for, and it is where the machine is the right answer rather than a large one. One source placed sensibly in that volume reaches across it, which is precisely what several point sources on separate tables cannot do.
Where it is not satisfied, say so. If the gathering happens in one closed room, a machine rated for up to 1000 m3 of connected air is over-specified for it, and Sukoon at ₹1,899 or Megh at ₹5,999 is the right size - both water-based, so both needing water kept in them and regular refilling. A passive bottle from the reed range at ₹749 to ₹1,349 is the no-equipment answer. And SOSA publishes no figure for what a second machine would add, so a connected volume larger than the rating is a WhatsApp conversation rather than arithmetic.
3
The machine
What is published, and the two things worth asking about
Under 38 dB, which is the figure that matters where people are talking to each other and something is playing. Run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days and adjustable intensity, from a Bluetooth app or the buttons on the unit, with auto-stop and a key-lock. Intensity is the setting that earns its keep here: a level that suits an empty afternoon is not the level for a room with thirty people in it, and it is adjustable rather than fixed.
It is complete on the day. Every unit comes in the box with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each. Afterwards, SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm. It takes alcohol-free, water-free oil made for cold-air diffusion, and the water-based bottles elsewhere on the site are for the ultrasonic machines rather than for this one.
The two things to ask. First, the life of a 400ml fill: the page gives it two different ways - about 75 days in its specification data and 90 or more in its body copy - and it depends on intensity and scheduled hours in any case. Second, anything about a connected volume larger than the published rating. Both go to WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. There is no published installation service, no warranty period, no running-cost figure and no published app name or connection range.
Tip: Adjustable intensity is the setting that matters on an evening with a room full of people.
Read the number strictly, not generously
About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of air that is actually connected
Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. The caveat matters more than the number. A rating assumes one connected body of air. A ground floor that runs living into dining into a stairwell is one volume and is exactly what the figure describes. A bungalow of the same total area with six closed doors is not one volume, it is six rooms, and the figure does not transfer. Work out how much of the house is genuinely open before you work out anything else - and note that no guidance is published on what a second unit adds.
Four steps, and the first two are a walk through the space with the doors as they will be
Count the areas guests actually move through on an evening, end to end.
Count the doors between them. None shut means one connected volume.
A candle is a point source that needs a flame and somebody to light it.
Ask SOSA on WhatsApp how much of the floor is genuinely open before buying.
The SOSA principle
Reach is a property of the source rather than of the room, which is why several point sources on separate tables never add up to one source with a published coverage figure behind it.
That is the whole of the practical argument here, and it is also why this particular topic is the one in the set where the published coverage number most often genuinely applies rather than needing a caveat.
The four-scent sets, what comes in the box, and what it runs on afterwards
Three published four-scent sets, all ₹11,999, so the decision is taste rather than budget. They pair Ritz-Carlton with Westin, St. Regis and 1 Hotels inspirations; Westin with Shangri-La, Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton; and St. Regis with W Hotels, 1 Hotels and Four Seasons. Stated plainly: these are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations, composed by SOSA, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. For a space used to gather people, having four bottles rather than one is more useful than it sounds, because the same volume with thirty people in it and the same volume empty are different problems, and intensity plus a choice of four is a lot of room to adjust within. If none of the four is right, waterless nebuliser refills at ₹1,049 for 100 gm are a small correction rather than a large mistake. Bespoke composition, a fragrance composed by Sonal, is also a genuine SOSA service, and it is discussed on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 rather than priced on a page.
The SOSA gift edit
Four answers for a moving crowd, and what each one is physically doing
The option
Who it suits, and where it fails
SOSA Vaayu · ₹11,999
One source with published reach: up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, under 38 dB, 1, 4, 8 or 24-hour windows on chosen days, adjustable intensity, four 100 ml fragrances in the box. The right answer when the areas people move through are one volume, and over-specified when the gathering stays in one closed room.
Candles across the space · from ₹399 each
Several point sources, each scenting the area around it, each needing a flame and somebody to light it, which is simply what the format is. No burn-hour figure is published. Genuinely good on one defined surface, and genuinely unsuited to covering a connected floor that people are moving across all evening.
Several reed diffusers · ₹749 to ₹1,349 each
Passive point sources instead of lit ones: nothing to plug in, nothing to light, about 6 to 10 weeks. Better than candles for an evening where nobody wants to be tending anything, and still limited to the area around each bottle. It is the sensible answer for a house of separate rooms rather than one open level.
SOSA Safar · ₹3,999
Included to be ruled out, because portable sounds useful for a moving crowd and is not. It is cordless, around 6.9 cm, with a 2000 mAh Type-C battery, three speeds and a 1, 2 or 3-hour auto shut-off, and it goes with a person to a car or a hotel room. It scents a small space near itself, not a property, and it is imported.
The two details that matter in a finished house
Under 38 dB, and it runs only when you tell it to
Two published details decide whether this belongs in a house somebody spent years on. It runs under 38 dB, which is the answer to the reasonable worry about a machine humming in a double-height living room. And it is scheduled: Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days and adjustable intensity, with auto-stop and a key-lock. That is what makes it workable in a house occupied for part of the year, or a room used only when people come over. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, and it ships with four 100 ml fragrances - so it is complete on the day it arrives.
Where the rest of the range sits on this question. SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft and is built for a hotel, a showroom or a corporate floor; a house that entertains well is still a house, so it is the wrong machine rather than the ambitious one, and the catalogue holds nothing between the two. The ultrasonic machines - Boond at ₹899, Sukoon at ₹1,899 and Megh at ₹5,999 - are water-based and suit one room or a small area, and all three need water kept in them and regular refilling. A reed duo set from ₹1,498 is two bottles in one box; only three pairings exist, none is composed to order, and both bottles in a set are the same size. And attars from ₹379 are worn rather than placed, which makes them a gift about a person rather than about a space full of people.
₹11,999. Up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected volume. A 400ml tank, Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, 1h/4h/8h/24h run windows and adjustable intensity. Under 38 dB.
165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, in black or white, freestanding on a surface or wall and HVAC mounted. DC 12V / 1A at 5W, with auto-stop and a key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS marks.
Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets. So it is complete on arrival, which matters more for a gift than it sounds.
four x 100 ml included
The number this whole decision turns on, and where it stops being true
Up to 1000 m3 - about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of connected air
SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing else in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated on the product page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. It is a waterless cold-air machine producing a dry, residue-free mist with no water and no heat, running under 38 dB on DC 12V / 1A at 5W, with a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity, plus auto-stop and a key-lock. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, in black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, and its country of origin is India. But a coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. That figure describes an open-plan living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall - the kind of volume a small passive bottle cannot reach. It does not describe a bungalow with every internal door closed, because that is not one volume; it is six. Above about 3,000 sq ft of genuinely connected space, or across separated wings, the honest answer is a conversation rather than a number, because no multi-unit guidance is published. SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft and is a commercial machine rather than a house gift.
Tell SOSA who it is for, roughly how big the room is, whether their home is already scented and what you want to spend - and you will be told which size and which scent, including the times the honest answer is the 50ml rather than the 130ml.
Several point sources on separate tables do not add up to one source with reach. That is a fact about how a volume is filled, and it is the only reason this question has a machine as its answer.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA
The SOSA gifting range
Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.
The SOSA range, sorted by how much air it is meant to handle
Up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected volume - a 400ml tank, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, 1h/4h/8h/24h scheduling, adjustable intensity, under 38 dB
Worn on the body rather than placed in a room - the right answer when the gift is about the person and not the house
from ₹379
A coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. Vaayu's figure describes an open-plan volume - a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall. A house with every internal door shut is not one volume, and the figure does not transfer to it. Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, and its country of origin is India. Fragrance adds a scent to a space; it does not remove, neutralise or purify one, and the dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue rather than about air quality. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and quantities are settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

What the Vaayu page publishes, and what it does not
Everything below is on the live product page. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
The machine - waterless cold-air diffusion, dry and residue-free, no water and no heat. 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm, 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted. DC 12V / 1A, 5W. Under 38 dB. Auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS. Country of origin India.
Control - a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity. This is what makes it workable in a house that is empty for stretches, or a room used only at weekends.
In the box - every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets, all at ₹11,999. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
The fragrance - alcohol-free, water-free oils formulated for cold-air diffusion. SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm and are published for Vaayu and Safar. The water-based ultrasonic bottles belong to a different kind of machine.
Not published, and therefore never stated here: how long a 400ml fill lasts as a single figure - the page says about 75 days in one place and 90 or more in another; what a second unit adds; any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; and any running or electricity cost. Those go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.
Not sure whether the house needs a machine or a bottle? Tell SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 four things: roughly how much of the ground floor is one connected open volume, whether the internal doors stay open or shut, how often the house is actually occupied, and what you want to spend. You will get one straight answer rather than a catalogue - including the times the honest answer is a reed diffuser from ₹749 or a duo set from ₹1,498 rather than a machine. What is not on this page, because SOSA does not publish it: what a second unit adds, any warranty period, any installation service, any running or electricity cost, and any app or Bluetooth compatibility detail. One thing to check before you buy: the Vaayu page states the life of a 400ml fill two different ways - about 75 days in one place and 90 or more in another - and it depends on intensity and scheduled hours in any case, so ask rather than plan around a number. Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each; SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm. Bulk orders are welcome and custom label or logo on product is available; quantities and anything commercial are settled on WhatsApp rather than priced on a page. Bespoke composition, a fragrance composed for you by Sonal, is a real SOSA service and is also discussed there. Where SOSA is: an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, sending orders across India, with no shop, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city.

A note from Sonal
The messages I find hardest to answer are the ones that begin with an apology. They have just finished building the house. I don't want to sound cheap, but I also can't buy them anything that matters at that scale. And underneath it is a real anxiety: that after years of drawings and delays and site visits, whatever you turn up with will look like a token.
What I would say is that the anxiety is aimed at the wrong thing. You are not competing with the house. Nobody is. The people who built it spent two years choosing between four shades of the same stone, and there is no object you can hand over that will register on that scale. Trying is how people end up buying a vase that gets moved to a spare room.
The reason I keep coming back to scent for these particular houses is unromantic. It is the last layer, and it is the only one nobody planned. An architect resolves the volume, a designer resolves the surfaces, a lighting consultant resolves the evening, and then everybody stops - because scent is not on anybody's drawing. So it is one of the few things left that adds to a finished house without arguing with a single decision already made in it.
The part I would be careful about is the number. Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does, and I would rather you read it strictly than generously. About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, of air that is actually connected. A ground floor that opens living into dining into a stairwell is that. A bungalow with six closed doors is not that, whatever its total square footage says on paper, and a page that blurs the two is doing you no favours.
Frequently asked questions
What replaces candles in a large space where people move around?
One source with published reach rather than several point sources. SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 is published for up to 1000 cubic metres, stated as approximately 2,000 to 3,000 square feet of connected air, with run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours on chosen days, adjustable intensity and operation under 38 dB. It comes in the box with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each.
Why are candles impractical for a party space?
Because a candle works on the area around itself, so several connected areas would need several of them. Each one needs a flame and somebody to light it, which is simply what the format is, and SOSA publishes no burn-hour figure for its candles, which start at Rs 399. On one defined surface a candle is a good and inexpensive gift; across a moving crowd it is the wrong tool.
Does the published coverage figure apply to an entertaining floor?
It applies when those areas are one connected body of air, which is usually what makes a floor usable for entertaining in the first place - living running into dining and on to a terrace door with nothing shut between. That connected volume is what the approximately 2,000 to 3,000 square foot figure describes. A gathering confined to one closed room is a much smaller volume than the rating.
Will people notice it when there are thirty of them in the room?
An enclosed volume shares one body of air, so a scent present in that air is part of the space on entering it. That is a statement about how volumes work rather than a claim about anybody's reaction, and SOSA makes no claim about how a recipient or a visitor feels. What is adjustable is the intensity setting and the run window, and both are set from the app or the onboard buttons.
How often does the tank have to be refilled if it runs on event evenings?
The tank is 400 ml and refillable, and the product page states its life two different ways - about 75 days in its specification data and 90 or more days in its body copy. Intensity and scheduled hours change it either way, and a machine run for a few evenings a week is a different case from one run daily. Ask SOSA on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 rather than planning around a single number.

About the coverage figure: a rating assumes one connected body of air. The published figure describes an open-plan volume such as a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level or a double-height hall, and does not describe a property whose rooms are separated by closed doors, whatever its total floor area. No guidance is published on what a second unit adds. About tank life: the Vaayu product page states the life of one 400 ml fill in two different ways - approximately 75 days in its specification and FAQ data, and 90 or more days in its body copy - and in either case it depends on the intensity setting and the scheduled hours, so no single figure is stated on this page. What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; any running or electricity cost; and any multi-unit coverage. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a space. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify odour, it does not clean the air, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial or air-purifying claim; a dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue and not about air quality. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep or wellbeing, nor about how any recipient or guest will feel, nor about what a gift does for any business result. No page here characterises any recipient's wealth or describes people who own particular kinds of property; where a property value appears it is the figure the reader themselves supplied as context. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city.
