Founder Diaries · Reed Diffuser & Home Fragrance Gifting
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 10 min read Updated September 2026
The way this question is usually framed makes it unanswerable. You are being asked to pick one fragrance, at one strength, on behalf of several people whose tastes do not agree - and there is no correct answer to that, because the question contains a contradiction. The way out is not a cleverer guess. It is to buy something that does not require the guess to be made once and for all: a level that can be turned down, and more than one bottle in the box, so the household arrives at its own answer instead of receiving yours.
SOSA Vaayu waterless cold-air scent machine with adjustable intensity, Rs 11,999
SOSA Vaayu · adjustable intensity · four 100 ml fragrances in the box ₹11,999 →
The two published facts this question turns on. SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999 - adjustable intensity and run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours on chosen days, from a Bluetooth app or the buttons on the unit, operating under 38 dB; and four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, supplied with it. Waterless cold-air diffusion, a dry residue-free mist, published for up to 1000 m3, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air.
Quick answers — read this first
How do you choose a fragrance for a room used by people with different preferences? By not choosing one and fixing it. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 publishes adjustable intensity and is supplied with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, so the level and the register are both things the household sets rather than things the gift decides for them. That is a published fact about the product, not a claim about how anybody will react.

Can the strength be turned down? Yes. Intensity is adjustable, and the run window is chosen too - 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, on selected days, with auto-stop and a key-lock, from a Bluetooth app or the buttons on the unit. The machine also runs under 38 dB. So a room that is used differently on different evenings can be set differently, rather than running at one fixed level all week.

Does it come with fragrance, or is that chosen separately? It comes with fragrance: four bottles of 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets, all at the same ₹11,999. Those are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Four bottles is the useful part here, because it means the household has options in hand on day one.
The short answer
Short answer: Stop trying to pick one register for everybody, because that question has no right answer. Buy the adjustability instead. SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 publishes adjustable intensity, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours on chosen days, operation under 38 dB, and it is supplied with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each - so the household settles both the level and the register itself.
The pick: SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 where the entertainment area is one connected volume - adjustable intensity, and four 100 ml fragrances in the box rather than one register chosen for everybody.
Why: Both variables that people disagree about - how strong and which style - are published as things the household controls, rather than things the gift fixes on their behalf.
Sending something when somebody is having a hard time - at a glanceKeep it small - candle ₹399, attar ₹379, car scent ₹449For their home - reed diffuser ₹749, nothing to switch onSay the words yourself - no card goes in the parcelNever - a parcel instead of turning up
A gift cannot change how somebody's week went, and a page that suggests otherwise is not worth reading. What a small parcel does is tell a person you were thinking about them on a day when nothing made you - which is a real thing to say, and worth saying. Keep it small, because a large one asks somebody already short of energy to produce a reaction, and send the words separately, because the object cannot carry them.
Straight answer
How do I choose intensity and style for a large entertainment area used by people with completely different preferences?
Reframe it, because as posed it cannot be answered. You are being asked to fix two variables - how strong, and which register - for a group that does not agree on either. No amount of research settles that, and the usual response is to pick something inoffensive, which is a decision nobody asked for either. The workable move is to buy a thing whose two contested variables are adjustable. SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 publishes adjustable intensity, and it is supplied with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each. Four bottles means the household can find its own answer rather than having one imposed, and that is a published fact about what turns up in the box rather than a promise about anybody's reaction. The rest of the specification: waterless cold-air diffusion - a dry residue-free mist, no water and no heat - published for up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours with day scheduling, under 38 dB, DC 12V / 1A at 5W, 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, made in India. Two honest caveats. That coverage figure assumes one connected body of air, so it fits an entertainment area open to the rest of the floor and not a closed room - there, Sukoon at ₹1,899 or Megh at ₹5,999 is proportionate, and both are water-based and need refilling. And fragrance adds a scent: it does not remove, neutralise or purify one. A portion of every SOSA order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
You are not choosing a fragrance for a group. You are choosing whether the group gets to choose, and one of those questions has an answer.
The whole argument in one line: Vaayu at ₹11,999 publishes adjustable intensity and comes with four 100 ml fragrances, so the level and the register are both set by the people in the room.
See SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999

Why this is a settings question rather than a taste question

Three things to work through, and the first one is a reframing rather than a product fact, because the product fact only helps once the question is asked properly.

1
The reframe
The question has no answer as posed, so change the question
Set out plainly, the brief is: choose one fragrance, at one strength, on behalf of four or five people who like different things, in a room they all use. That is not a hard question. It is an unanswerable one, and hours disappear into it because it looks like a research problem.

The usual escape is to pick the blandest option available on the theory that it offends nobody. That is still a decision made on other people's behalf, and it has the additional drawback of being the decision nobody would have made for themselves. The other usual escape is to pick your own favourite and hope. Neither is better than the other; they are both single fixed answers to a question that has several correct ones depending on who is in the room and when.

So change what you are buying. Instead of buying an answer, buy the two dials the disagreement is actually about: how strong it is, and which register it is in. If both of those are things the household can set after the gift is opened, you have not imposed anything, and the question stops being yours to get wrong.
Tip: Buy the dials, not the setting. The setting was never yours to choose.
2
The dials
What is published as adjustable, and what turns up in the box
Intensity is adjustable. That is published on the Vaayu page along with the rest of the control set: run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, day scheduling, auto-stop and a key-lock, operated from a Bluetooth app or the buttons on the unit. The machine runs under 38 dB. A large entertainment area used one way on a quiet Sunday and another way when it is full can therefore be set two different ways, rather than running at one level because that was the level it came at.

And four bottles turn up with it. Every Vaayu is supplied with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets, all at the same ₹11,999. Four is the number that matters in this particular question, because a household with different tastes in it can work through four registers and settle on one - or use different ones at different times - without buying anything further. That is a statement about what is in the box. It is not a promise that any particular person will like any particular bottle, and SOSA makes no claim about how anybody responds to a fragrance.

If none of the four suits the room, the waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm. It takes alcohol-free, water-free oil made for cold-air diffusion; the water-based bottles on the site belong to the ultrasonic machines and are a different fluid for a different device. Anything more specific than that goes to WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531.
3
The caveat
None of it matters if the room is the wrong size for the machine
Before any of the above is useful, the machine has to be the right one for the space, and a large entertainment area can mean two quite different things.

The published coverage is up to 1000 m3, stated on the product page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, and that figure describes one connected body of air. If the entertainment area runs into a bar, a dining area and a stairwell with nothing shut between them, that is the case, and the machine is correctly specified for it. If it is a large but genuinely closed room with a door that stays shut, the figure does not transfer, and a machine of that reach is more than four walls will let it use. Sukoon at ₹1,899 or Megh at ₹5,999 is proportionate there, though both are water-based and want water and regular refilling. Note also that SOSA publishes no figure for what a second machine would add.

Two more unpublished items, so nobody plans around a guess. The product page states how long a 400ml fill lasts in two different ways - about 75 days in its specification data and 90 or more in its body copy - and it depends on intensity and scheduled hours in any case, which is doubly true when the intensity is being changed. There is also no published warranty period, no published installation service and no published running-cost figure.
Tip: Check the doors first. The adjustability argument only applies once the machine suits the volume.
SOSA Vaayu, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted
Read the number strictly, not generously
About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of air that is actually connected
Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. The caveat matters more than the number. A rating assumes one connected body of air. A ground floor that runs living into dining into a stairwell is one volume and is exactly what the figure describes. A bungalow of the same total area with six closed doors is not one volume, it is six rooms, and the figure does not transfer. Work out how much of the house is genuinely open before you work out anything else - and note that no guidance is published on what a second unit adds.
See SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 →
Work it out in this order
How to settle a group disagreement without settling it for the group
  1. Stop trying to pick one register. That question genuinely has no right answer.
  2. Check the doors. Connected volume means Vaayu; a closed room means Sukoon.
  3. Buy the adjustable intensity and the four 100 ml bottles, not a chosen scent.
  4. Ask on WhatsApp what a 400ml fill lasts before planning around any number.
The SOSA principle
When several people have to live with one decision, the useful gift is not the best guess at what they all want. It is the one that leaves both contested variables in their hands, so nothing has been settled on their behalf at all.
That is why adjustable intensity and four bottles in the box are the two facts that matter most on this particular question, and why they matter more than which four scents the box happens to contain.

The three four-scent sets, and why four bottles is the point

There are three published four-scent sets and all three cost the same ₹11,999, so this is a taste decision rather than a budget one - and on this page, the least important decision of the three. The sets pair Ritz-Carlton with Westin, St. Regis and 1 Hotels inspirations; Westin with Shangri-La, Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton; and St. Regis with W Hotels, 1 Hotels and Four Seasons. Plainly stated: these are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations, composed by SOSA, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. For a room with several opinions in it, the honest guidance is to stop optimising the set and note what all three have in common - four bottles of 100 ml, so there are four registers in the house on day one and none of them had to be chosen by you. Only three sets exist and none is composed to order, so this is a choice between three published boxes rather than a selection of four bottles.

The SOSA gift edit
Four ways to handle a room with several opinions in it
The option Who it suits, and where it fails
SOSA Vaayu · ₹11,999 Adjustable intensity, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours on chosen days, under 38 dB, up to about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft of connected air, and four 100 ml fragrances in the box. It is the answer to a disagreement because it settles nothing in advance. It fails in a closed room, where the coverage figure does not apply.
SOSA Megh · ₹5,999 The larger ultrasonic for a big closed entertainment room. Water-based, so it wants water and regular refilling. It handles the size question for a shut room but not the disagreement: one bottle at a time, bought separately, which puts the choice of register back on whoever bought it.
A reed duo set · ₹1,498 to ₹2,598 Two bottles in one box, about 6 to 10 weeks, nothing to operate. Two registers rather than four, which is a genuine partial answer to a room with mixed tastes. Only three pairings exist and none is composed to order. It fails in a large open volume, where a passive bottle reaches the area around itself and no further.
A candle · from ₹399 The small, unpresumptuous option, and easy to put away if it is not to somebody's taste. It needs a flame and somebody to light it, which is simply what the format is, and no burn-hour figure is published. It fails as an answer for a large area in constant use, because it only works while somebody is attending to it.

The two details that matter in a finished house
Under 38 dB, and it runs only when you tell it to
Two published details decide whether this belongs in a house somebody spent years on. It runs under 38 dB, which is the answer to the reasonable worry about a machine humming in a double-height living room. And it is scheduled: Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, chosen days and adjustable intensity, with auto-stop and a key-lock. That is what makes it workable in a house occupied for part of the year, or a room used only when people come over. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, and it ships with four 100 ml fragrances - so it is complete on the day it arrives.

The rest of the range, briefly, since a large room invites over-buying. SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft and is a commercial machine for a hotel, a showroom or a corporate floor; for a home entertainment area it is not the ambitious choice, it is the wrong one, and the catalogue holds nothing between the two machines. Boond at ₹899 is the smallest ultrasonic, water-based and for a small closed room. SOSA Safar at ₹3,999 is portable and cordless and goes with a person to a car or a hotel room rather than serving a fixed space, and it is imported rather than made in India. Attars from ₹379 are worn rather than placed, which makes them the one format where a difference of taste never has to be resolved at all.

Up to 1000 m3 - about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - of connected air
SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing else in home fragrance does: up to 1000 m3, stated on the product page as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. It is a waterless cold-air machine producing a dry, residue-free mist with no water and no heat, running under 38 dB on DC 12V / 1A at 5W, with a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity, plus auto-stop and a key-lock. It is 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm and 0.9 kg, in black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, CE, RoHS and SGS marked, and its country of origin is India. But a coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. That figure describes an open-plan living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall - the kind of volume a small passive bottle cannot reach. It does not describe a bungalow with every internal door closed, because that is not one volume; it is six. Above about 3,000 sq ft of genuinely connected space, or across separated wings, the honest answer is a conversation rather than a number, because no multi-unit guidance is published. SOSA Meenar at ₹38,500 is published for 12,000 to 18,000 sq ft and is a commercial machine rather than a house gift.

The SOSA gifting range

Two questions settle almost every reed diffuser gift, and the first one is not price. How big is the room it is going into? A 50ml suits a bedroom, a study, a hallway or a first diffuser; a 130ml suits an open-plan living and dining area, and it is genuinely too much for a small closed bedroom. Then: how much do you actually know about their taste? The less you know, the less declarative the scent should be - Morning Freshness is the safest of the five for a home you have never stood in, and Fresh Brew coffee-vanilla is the strongest opinion in the range. Price follows those two answers rather than leading them.

A coverage rating assumes one connected body of air. Vaayu's figure describes an open-plan volume - a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level, a double-height hall. A house with every internal door shut is not one volume, and the figure does not transfer to it. Every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, and its country of origin is India. Fragrance adds a scent to a space; it does not remove, neutralise or purify one, and the dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue rather than about air quality. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Prices above are published retail prices; bulk orders are welcome and quantities are settled on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. SOSA is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune. The honest spec sheet
What the Vaayu page publishes, and what it does not
Everything below is on the live product page. Anything not on this list is not something a page like this should state.
  • Coverage - up to 1000 m3, published as about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. A rating assumes one connected body of air, so it describes an open-plan floor rather than a house of closed rooms.
  • The machine - waterless cold-air diffusion, dry and residue-free, no water and no heat. 165 x 80.5 x 215 mm, 0.9 kg, black or white, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted. DC 12V / 1A, 5W. Under 38 dB. Auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS. Country of origin India.
  • Control - a 400ml refillable tank, Bluetooth app plus onboard buttons, run windows of 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h, day scheduling and adjustable intensity. This is what makes it workable in a house that is empty for stretches, or a room used only at weekends.
  • In the box - every Vaayu ships with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances, 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets, all at ₹11,999. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand.
  • The fragrance - alcohol-free, water-free oils formulated for cold-air diffusion. SOSA waterless nebuliser refills are ₹1,049 for 100 gm and ₹1,849 for 300 gm and are published for Vaayu and Safar. The water-based ultrasonic bottles belong to a different kind of machine.
  • Not published, and therefore never stated here: how long a 400ml fill lasts as a single figure - the page says about 75 days in one place and 90 or more in another; what a second unit adds; any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; and any running or electricity cost. Those go to WhatsApp +91 96192 18531.

A note from Sonal

The messages I find hardest to answer are the ones that begin with an apology. They have just finished building the house. I don't want to sound cheap, but I also can't buy them anything that matters at that scale. And underneath it is a real anxiety: that after years of drawings and delays and site visits, whatever you turn up with will look like a token.

What I would say is that the anxiety is aimed at the wrong thing. You are not competing with the house. Nobody is. The people who built it spent two years choosing between four shades of the same stone, and there is no object you can hand over that will register on that scale. Trying is how people end up buying a vase that gets moved to a spare room.

The reason I keep coming back to scent for these particular houses is unromantic. It is the last layer, and it is the only one nobody planned. An architect resolves the volume, a designer resolves the surfaces, a lighting consultant resolves the evening, and then everybody stops - because scent is not on anybody's drawing. So it is one of the few things left that adds to a finished house without arguing with a single decision already made in it.

The part I would be careful about is the number. Vaayu publishes a coverage figure, which almost nothing in home fragrance does, and I would rather you read it strictly than generously. About 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, of air that is actually connected. A ground floor that opens living into dining into a stairwell is that. A bungalow with six closed doors is not that, whatever its total square footage says on paper, and a page that blurs the two is doing you no favours.

Frequently asked questions

How do you pick a scent for a room used by people with different tastes?
Avoid picking one and fixing it. SOSA Vaayu publishes adjustable intensity and is supplied with four SOSA Hotel Collection fragrances of 100 ml each, so both the level and the register are set by the household after the gift is opened. Those are published facts about the product. SOSA makes no claim about how any particular person will respond to any particular fragrance.
Can the intensity actually be turned down?
Yes. Adjustable intensity is published, along with run windows of 1, 4, 8 or 24 hours, day scheduling, auto-stop and a key-lock, controlled from a Bluetooth app or the buttons on the unit. The machine operates under 38 dB. A room used one way on a quiet evening and another way when it is full can be set two different ways rather than running at one fixed level.
How many fragrances come with it?
Four, at 100 ml each, in one of three published four-scent sets, all at the same Rs 11,999. Those are SOSA's own hotel-inspired interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Only three sets exist and none is composed to order, so the choice is between three published boxes rather than a free selection of bottles.
Will one machine serve a large entertainment area?
If that area is one connected body of air, yes - the published figure is up to 1000 cubic metres, stated as about 2,000 to 3,000 square feet. If it is a large but closed room, a smaller source suits it better: Sukoon at Rs 1,899 or Megh at Rs 5,999, both water-based and needing water and refilling. SOSA publishes no figure for what a second machine would add.
What if nobody in the house likes any of the four?
Then the waterless nebuliser refills are Rs 1,049 for 100 gm and Rs 1,849 for 300 gm, which is a small correction rather than an expensive one. About the coverage figure: a rating assumes one connected body of air. The published figure describes an open-plan volume such as a living-dining floor, a duplex's main level or a double-height hall, and does not describe a property whose rooms are separated by closed doors, whatever its total floor area. No guidance is published on what a second unit adds. About tank life: the Vaayu product page states the life of one 400 ml fill in two different ways - approximately 75 days in its specification and FAQ data, and 90 or more days in its body copy - and in either case it depends on the intensity setting and the scheduled hours, so no single figure is stated on this page. What is not published, and is therefore not stated here: any warranty period, service interval or filter; any installation service; any app name, phone compatibility or Bluetooth range; any running or electricity cost; and any multi-unit coverage. Limits of this guide: fragrance adds a scent to a space. It does not remove, neutralise, mask or purify odour, it does not clean the air, and no SOSA product makes any health, antibacterial or air-purifying claim; a dry residue-free mist is a statement about residue and not about air quality. No claim is made anywhere on this page about mood, stress, calm, sleep or wellbeing, nor about how any recipient or guest will feel, nor about what a gift does for any business result. No page here characterises any recipient's wealth or describes people who own particular kinds of property; where a property value appears it is the figure the reader themselves supplied as context. SOSA blends described as hotel-inspired are SOSA's own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. SOSA Home & Body is an Indian fragrance house based in Pune, Maharashtra, sending orders across India, with no shop, showroom, stockist, counter or warehouse in any other city.
