Same machine, same drops, two different results — and there's a simple, honest reason. The bedroom is smaller and more enclosed; the living room is bigger and more open, so the same mist that fills a bedroom gets lost across a living room. It's a size-and-enclosure story, not a fault.
Quick answers — read this first
Why the difference? Volume and openness. A bedroom is often 120–180 sq ft with a door; a living room can be 250–400 sq ft, open to a dining space or passage. The same
Sukoon mist fills the first and thins in the second.
Can I make the living room match? Improve it a lot by raising and centring the unit and closing openings while it builds. But if the living room is large or open-plan, one Sukoon won't equal the bedroom result.
What's the real fix for the living room? Keep the Sukoon in the bedroom, and put a second diffuser — or for an open living-dining, the waterless
Vaayu (₹11,999) — in the living room.
The short answer
Short answer: Because the bedroom is a smaller, more enclosed volume than the living room, the same
Sukoon mist saturates it while thinning across the bigger, more open living room; raise and centre it, close openings, or give the living room its own larger machine like the
Vaayu.
The pick: the
SOSA Sukoon (₹1,799) ultrasonic diffuser plus a
Hotel Collection scent (from ₹299) is the hotel-at-home starter; a
Boond (₹799) suits a small room or desk, and for a large, open-plan or high-humidity space the waterless
Vaayu (₹11,999) adds no moisture.

Straight answer
Why does my ultrasonic diffuser work better in my bedroom than my living room?
1. It's the size gap. A bedroom is a small, closed box; the same mist reaches every wall. A living room is bigger and often open, so the mist disperses before it fills.
2. Enclosure matters as much as size. A bedroom door holds the scent in. A living room open to dining, kitchen or a passage keeps leaking it away.
3. Optimise the living room first. Raise and centre the Sukoon, keep it out of the AC draft, and close what doors you can while the scent establishes.
4. Accept the honest limit. If the living room is 300+ sq ft or open-plan, one Sukoon can't match the bedroom — that's per-room physics, not a defect.
5. Give the living room its own machine. A second diffuser, or for an open living-dining the waterless
Vaayu (₹11,999), delivers the bedroom's saturation at living-room scale.

Why one room works and the other doesn't
1
VOLUME GAP
A living room is simply bigger
Sukoon · the diffuser₹1,799 The clearest reason is cubic volume. A 150 sq ft bedroom at a 9 ft ceiling is a small box the Sukoon's mist saturates easily. A 320 sq ft living room is more than double that volume — the exact same output now has to fill twice the air, so it reads as half as strong everywhere. Nothing changed about the machine or the fragrance; you simply moved it into a room that needs more
mist to reach the same concentration.
Tip: Roughly double the floor area means roughly half the perceived strength.
2
OPEN VS CLOSED
The bedroom door does real work
Hotel Collection scentsFrom ₹299 Enclosure quietly decides everything. A shut bedroom door traps the mist and lets it build. A living room usually opens to a dining area, kitchen, staircase or entryway, and every opening is a leak — the scent drifts out as fast as the Sukoon makes it. That's why a modest bedroom often
out-performs a grand living room: it isn't the nicer room, it's the tighter one. Close what you can and you'll narrow the gap.
Tip: While the scent builds, close passages the living room opens onto.
3
THE RIGHT PAIRING
A machine sized to each room
Vaayu · large room₹11,999 The elegant answer is to stop asking one machine to do two very different jobs. Keep the Sukoon where it already shines — the bedroom — and give the living room its own device sized to it: a second
Sukoon if it's an enclosed living room, or the waterless
Vaayu if it's open-plan. You'll get bedroom-quality saturation in both, and you can even run different Hotel Collection scents in each.
Tip: Bedroom: White Tea Serenity. Living room: Quiet Luxury.

Bedroom vs living room, side by side
The same machine reads differently because the two rooms are genuinely different volumes to fill.

A humble bedroom beats a grand living room not because it's nicer, but because it's smaller and its door stays shut.

Sizes & how to use: every scent comes as 15ml (₹299, to try), 100ml (₹999, the value bottle) or 300ml (₹1,799, best per-ml); the 15ml
Pack of 7 (₹1,799) is the whole wardrobe. Add just 3-6 drops to the Sukoon's water tank and adjust to taste - a little goes a long way - and rinse the tank when you switch scents so each stays true. These are water-based, ultrasonic-safe fragrances made for SOSA diffusers; do not substitute raw essential or carrier oils, which can clog the misting plate. The scents are SOSA's own interpretations inspired by (not affiliated with) the named hotels. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
When the room is big or open-plan SOSA Vaayu · Waterless Cold-Air ₹11,999 The Sukoon is perfect for a bedroom or a normal living room; for a large, open-plan or high-ceilinged space - or if you want zero added humidity in already-humid coastal air - step up to the waterless Vaayu (up to 1000m³, app + timers). For a whole home, the ducted Aangan (₹25,999) carries one signature through every room. Compare Sukoon vs Vaayu →

Frequently asked questions
Why does the same diffuser feel stronger in my bedroom?
Because the bedroom is a smaller, more enclosed volume. The
Sukoon's mist fills a closed 150 sq ft room easily, while a larger, more open living room needs far more mist to reach the same concentration. Same machine, harder room.
How can I make my living room scent as strong as my bedroom?
Raise and centre the diffuser, keep it out of the AC draft, and close the openings the living room shares with dining or passage areas while the scent builds. That closes much of the gap; a genuinely large or open living room will still need its own larger machine.
Should I just move the bedroom diffuser to the living room each day?
You can, but you'll simply swap which room smells good — and the living room will still underperform because it's bigger. A second diffuser lets both rooms stay scented at once, which is the real hotel effect.
Is my living room too big for a Sukoon?
If it's over roughly 250–300 sq ft or open-plan, effectively yes for even coverage. Keep the Sukoon for the bedroom and use the waterless
Vaayu (₹11,999), rated to 1000m³, for the open living space.
Can I run different scents in the bedroom and living room?
Yes, and it's lovely. Keep
White Tea Serenity in the bedroom and
Quiet Luxury in the living room. Just keep adjacent, connected rooms in a similar family so they don't clash across a shared doorway.
Both rooms, done right
Give the living room the same saturation your bedroom already has
Keep the Sukoon where it shines and add a machine sized to the living room — a second Sukoon for an enclosed one, the waterless Vaayu for open-plan.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the technique applies to any brand's ultrasonic system.
Facts verified August 2026: An ultrasonic diffuser disperses a water-based fragrance as a cool micro-mist, scenting a room without heat or flame and adding a little humidity. Great hotels use commercial HVAC scenting to create a signature smell; at home the same effect comes from a diffuser plus a hotel-inspired blend. SOSA Sukoon is a 500ml ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser with a 7-colour mood light (₹1,799); Boond is a 300ml mini ultrasonic diffuser (₹799); both run the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance. The Hotel Collection comes in seven scents (Ritz-Carlton, Westin, 1 Hotels, St. Regis, Shangri-La, Four Seasons and W Hotels styles) in 15ml (₹299), 100ml (₹999) and 300ml (₹1,799), plus 15ml Pack of 7 (₹1,799); dose 3-6 drops per tank, use SOSA diffuser fragrance only (not raw essential/carrier oils), and rinse between scents. For large, open-plan or high-humidity spaces the waterless SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999, up to 1000m³) adds no humidity; the Aangan (₹25,999) is a whole-home HVAC system. The scents are SOSA's own interpretations; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel brand. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
