The question I am usually asked is which fragrance belongs in the consultation room, and the honest answer is that the room does not get one. It gets the showroom's air, arriving through an open door at a fraction of the strength, which is exactly what a room holding a seated customer for ninety minutes should have.
Quick answers — read this first
What should a modular kitchen consultation room smell like? Like the display floor, only fainter. The register is the showroom's register - dry woods, something green or herbal, a dry tea, clean mineral - and nothing edible at any point. What changes between the floor and the meeting room is not the fragrance but the concentration, and the correct way to get that drop is distance and a doorway rather than a second machine set lower. The room inherits; it does not produce.

So the consultation room gets no diffuser at all? Correct, in almost every showroom I am sent a plan for. A consultation room is small, usually partly enclosed, and holds a customer who has not moved for sixty to ninety minutes. A source inside that room keeps delivering into a volume of air that is barely being exchanged, and by the time the finishes are chosen the customer is sitting in the strongest air in your building. The strongest air should be furthest from the longest visit, and that is a placement decision, not a dial one.

What does the whole showroom cost, then? One machine. For a showroom past about 1,500 sq ft that is a single SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, placed on the display floor upstream of the meeting room and run low. Under about 750 sq ft the honest answer is one SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 and a Vaayu would be the wrong buy. Either way, total hardware for the consultation room itself is ₹0.
The short answer
Short answer: like a quieter version of the display floor - the same dry, material-led register with nothing edible in it, arriving through the door rather than from a machine inside the room. A consultation room gets no source of its own, because a seated customer spends sixty to ninety minutes in it. One Vaayu at ₹11,999 on the display floor does the whole building.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) on the display floor, upstream of the consultation room and run low, or one SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) where the whole showroom is a single room under about 750 sq ft.
Next step: send the floor plan marked with the consultation room, its door and where the air enters the display floor, and we will tell you where the one machine goes - Ask for a retail scenting plan.
The consultation room, in five linesThe room gets no machine and no fragrance of its ownIt inherits the display floor through the doorwayA source in a closed room is the classic mistakeOne Vaayu at ₹11,999 does the whole buildingNo one can promise scent moves a business number
Everything about a consultation room argues for less: it is small, it is partly enclosed, and the person in it does not move for an hour and a half. The cheapest way to give it less is to give it nothing.

Straight answer
What should a modular kitchen consultation room actually smell like, and does it need its own diffuser?
It should smell like your display floor at perhaps a third of the strength, and it should get there by inheriting rather than by producing. Register first, because that half is simple and it is the same answer as everywhere else in the building: dry, clean and material-led - dry woods such as cedar, pine and sage, something green or herbal, a dry tea, a dry non-lemony citrus, clean mineral - and nothing edible at all. No vanilla, no baking, no coffee, no caramel, no honey, no cinnamon or warm spice. I will name our own product rather than dance around it: SOSA's Fresh Brew, which is Coorg coffee and Kerala vanilla, at ₹849, is precisely the register a kitchen showroom must avoid, and it is doubly wrong in a small closed room where an edible note turns cloying within twenty minutes. The aspiration behind the edible instinct - that this should feel like a beautiful home rather than a shop - is entirely achievable without a food note, because a well-kept home smells of clean air, timber, stone and laundry for thirteen hours a day and of dinner for one. Now the part of the answer that is actually about consultation rooms. The consultation room is where your customer sits down at eleven and stands up at half past twelve. It is usually small. It is often partly enclosed - a glazed partition, a half-height wall, a door that gets shut when the family wants to talk about money. And that combination is the worst possible place in a showroom to put a fragrance source. Three things happen at once in a closed small room: the air is exchanged less, so output accumulates instead of dispersing; the customer's exposure keeps adding up for the whole ninety minutes rather than the thirty seconds a shopper spends walking past a display; and the human nose adapts within about twenty minutes, so the person who set the level - you, walking in and out all day - is the one person in the building who genuinely cannot judge it. Put those together and you get the single most common over-scenting story in this vertical: a room that felt lovely at the door and is unbearable by the time the worktop is chosen. So the room gets nothing of its own. One machine goes on the display floor, upstream on the air path, and the consultation room receives what drifts through the doorway - which is a fraction, and a fraction is the target. If the door is shut for part of the meeting, better still; the room quietly falls to almost nothing while the family talks, and picks up again when the door opens. That gradient is free, it is produced by the building rather than by a dial, and it is more natural than anything you could engineer. On hardware, the honest numbers. A showroom past about 1,500 sq ft takes one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - rated to 1000m³, waterless, under 38dB so it is inaudible from the table, on 1h/4h/8h/24h timers set to trading hours, with a key-lock that stops a well-meaning colleague turning it up on a slow morning. Under about 750 sq ft, where the showroom is one room with a table in the corner, the honest buy is one SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 and a Vaayu would be the wrong buy. In both cases the additional spend on the consultation room is ₹0. Three standing limits. Fragrance here is a presentation decision like the lighting over your sample wall, never a mask for laminate, adhesive or new joinery - those need ventilation and curing weeks, and a fragrance laid over them gives you both smells. Anyone at the table must be able to switch the machine off in seconds. And plainly: no one can promise you that ambient scent moves footfall, enquiries, order value or a customer's decision to buy a kitchen, and a supplier quoting you a figure is selling. Ask for a retail scenting plan and send the floor plan with the meeting room marked.
The consultation room smells of the display floor and nothing else. No diffuser inside it, one machine outside it, and the doorway does the rest. ₹11,999 for the showroom past 1,500 sq ft, ₹1,899 under 750, and ₹0 for the room itself.
One SOSA Vaayu on the display floor covers the meeting room too - 1000m³, waterless, under 38dB and key-locked so the level holds between visits. ₹11,999. Under about 750 sq ft buy the Sukoon at ₹1,899 instead, and still put it outside the meeting area.

The machine, and where it does not go

Two honest answers by showroom size, and one placement rule that applies to both. The images link through to the product pages so you can read the specification before ordering.

SOSA Vaayu
A showroom past about 1,500 sq ft
SOSA Vaayu
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, roughly 2,000-3,000 sq ft. 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, auto-stop and key-lock. It goes on the display floor near where air enters - never inside the consultation room, and never on the wall the customer faces.
From ₹11,999
SOSA Sukoon
Under about 750 sq ft - buy this instead
SOSA Sukoon
Ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft, supplied with three 15ml fragrances. Where the whole showroom is one room with a consultation table in a corner, this is the honest buy, placed at the opposite end of the room from the table. A Vaayu at six times the price would be rated for air you do not have.
From ₹1,899
SOSA Vaayu
The one machine that serves the display floor and the meeting room together
SOSA Vaayu
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mount, auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Made in India. Cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml and further supply should be confirmed with SOSA.

The three reasons the room inherits rather than produces

Three things about a consultation room push in the same direction, and none of them is about perfumery. They are about air, time and who is qualified to judge.

1
Count the air, not the floor
A partly enclosed room exchanges less air, so output accumulates in it
A display floor is a large connected volume with doors opening, air handling running and people moving through it, which is why a machine on it disperses rather than concentrates. A consultation room is the opposite: a small volume behind a partition or a door, with far less exchange happening. The same output that reads as a whisper on the floor reads as a presence in there. This is why the fix for a consultation room that smells too strong is almost never the dial - it is moving the source out of the room entirely and letting the doorway meter what arrives. If you have already bought a small unit for the meeting room, take it out and use it somewhere with real air movement.
Tip: Shut the door with the machine outside and the room falls quiet by itself.

2
Judge it from the chair at minute ninety
Your nose adapts in twenty minutes; the seated customer's exposure keeps adding
The person who sets the level is usually the owner, walking in from outside, and that judgement is worth very little after the first twenty minutes because adaptation makes your own showroom smell of nothing to you. Meanwhile the customer at the table is receiving fragrance continuously for ninety minutes while concentrating on a decision worth several lakh. The two experiences have almost nothing in common. So take the measurement where it matters: sit at the consultation table yourself for a full ninety minutes, doing something demanding, and ask your designers - who breathe that air nine hours a day, six days a week - after an ordinary week. Treat a hesitation from them as a no.
Tip: If the designers pause before answering, the level is already too high.

One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.

3
Refuse the edible instinct, hardest here
A food note in a small closed room turns cloying faster than anywhere else
Every kitchen brief arrives with a version of the same suggestion: something warm, something baked, something like a home with dinner on. It is wrong across the whole showroom and it is worst in the consultation room, because a small volume of air concentrates a sweet edible note and ninety seated minutes give it time to become the only thing in the room. A brand designing ₹5 to ₹10 lakh kitchens that smells of cake reads as a bakery, and if you run cooking demonstrations it competes with the real smell you staged deliberately. Our own Fresh Brew, coffee and vanilla at ₹849, is the clearest example of what not to put anywhere in this building.
Tip: If the note belongs on a menu, it does not belong in a kitchen showroom.

The SOSA principle
A consultation room does not need a fragrance decision of its own, because the doorway is already a better volume control than any dial you could fit inside it.
The showroom's air arrives diluted by distance and metered by a door, which is exactly the treatment a room holding somebody for ninety minutes deserves.
SOSA Vaayu
One machine, two rooms: SOSA Vaayu on the display floor reaches the consultation room through the doorway at a fraction of the strength. ₹11,999.

The plan, room by room

The whole answer as a plan, worth pinning where whoever opens the showroom in the morning will see it.

The SOSA plan
A showroom with a separate consultation room, room by room
The room What to do
SOSA VaayuDisplay floor
The one source, placed near where air enters, roughly a metre up, out of the AC return path and away from the door. Low setting, trading-hours timer.
The doorway or partition
Your volume control. It meters what reaches the table without anybody touching a dial, and it costs nothing.
Consultation room
No source, no separate fragrance, no second machine. It inherits the floor at a fraction of the strength and that fraction is the target.
The consultation table itself
Nothing on or near it. The seat furthest from the machine is where the level is judged, at minute ninety.
SOSA SukoonA genuinely sealed meeting room
If it is fully closed with its own air supply, the honest answer is usually still nothing - and if anything, a Sukoon at ₹1,899, never a Vaayu.

The level itself is worked through in how strong fragrance should be when customers spend sixty to ninety minutes choosing a kitchen, and if your meeting area is genuinely sealed rather than open to the floor, the honest options are in the best subtle fragrance for a kitchen design meeting area. The whole method sits in how to scent a kitchen studio without distracting customers during design consultations. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel.

SOSA Vaayu
Quiet enough for a long meeting: Under 38dB, so nobody at the consultation table can hear it working. ₹11,999.
One machine, placed outside the meeting room
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 covers up to 1000m³, so the display floor and the consultation room share one source and one setting.
See the SOSA Vaayu Book a scenting plan
The most uncomfortable rooms I am ever sent photographs of are consultation rooms with a diffuser on the credenza. Somebody was trying to be generous, and generosity is the wrong instinct two feet from a seated customer.

The SOSA showroom specification

Two machines cover almost every modular kitchen showroom with a consultation room, and neither of them goes inside it. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately, so the 400ml supplied runs 90+ days a fill and continuity of supply should be confirmed with SOSA before you commit to a rollout. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

The question arrives phrased as a fragrance question and it is almost always a placement question. Somebody has a lovely consultation room, they want it to feel considered, and the instinct is to give it something of its own. I understand it, and my answer disappoints people slightly: the room is already getting the right amount, through the door, from the machine on the floor outside. Do not improve on that.

What makes this room different from every other part of a showroom is that nobody in it is moving. A display floor is full of people walking, doors opening and air handling running, all of which dilute. A meeting room is a small pocket of still air holding one family and one designer for ninety minutes while several lakh is discussed. Every honest instinct in that situation is subtraction: less fragrance, more distance, a door you can shut, and a switch anybody can reach. Ask the designers who sit in that chair all week and believe them.

On hardware: one Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a showroom past 1,500 sq ft, or a Sukoon at ₹1,899 under 750 sq ft, and nothing at all inside the meeting room. Fragrance is never a substitute for ventilation, nobody can promise you a commercial result, and if the showroom still smells of its own fit-out you should trade unscented until that has gone. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

What should a modular kitchen consultation room smell like?
Like the display floor, only fainter. The register is dry and material-led - dry woods such as cedar, pine and sage, something green or herbal, a dry tea or clean mineral - with nothing edible in it at all. What changes between the floor and the meeting room is the concentration, not the fragrance, and the drop should come from distance and a doorway rather than from a second machine set lower.
Should the consultation room have its own diffuser?
In almost every showroom, no. It is a small, partly enclosed volume that exchanges less air than the display floor, and it holds a customer who has not moved for sixty to ninety minutes. A source inside it keeps delivering into still air, so the customer ends up sitting in the strongest air in the building. Put the one machine on the display floor and let the doorway meter what arrives.
How do I know if the consultation room is over-scented?
Sit in it yourself for a full ninety minutes doing something that needs concentration, and ask the designers who use that table every working day. You cannot judge it by walking in, because the nose adapts within about twenty minutes and your own showroom stops smelling of anything to you. If a designer hesitates before saying it is fine, treat that as a no and turn it down.
What does this cost for a showroom with a consultation room?
One machine. Past about 1,500 sq ft that is a SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999 on the display floor, rated to 1000m3, waterless, under 38dB and key-locked. Under about 750 sq ft it is a SOSA Sukoon at Rs 1,899 and a Vaayu would be the wrong buy. Additional hardware for the consultation room itself is nothing, because it does not get any.
Will a nicely scented consultation room help close a kitchen sale?
No one can promise that, and I will not. SOSA has run no research that would support a figure, and there is no honest way to separate ambient scent from the design work, the samples, the pricing and the designer's manner across a ninety-minute meeting. The useful question is whether the air agrees with what the room is selling, which you can judge from the chair yourself.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification, which are electrical and compliance marks and not medical approvals. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and is supplied with three 15ml fragrances; the water-based Hotel Collection (₹299 / ₹999 / ₹1,799) is an ultrasonic fragrance and is not a refill for a waterless cold-air machine. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with 50ml lasting about 6-8 weeks and 130ml about 14-18 weeks. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml included and further refills should be confirmed with SOSA. Warranty, annual maintenance, installation and bulk terms are not published and should be confirmed before ordering. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it makes no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and infection control and is never a substitute for any of them, it is never used to mask another smell, and no claim is made that fragrance influences a patient's decision or any commercial outcome. Clinical areas including procedure, post-procedure and photography rooms are left unscented, and the treating clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan in their own room. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference.
