Tobacco is a rich, distinctive fragrance note - but what does it actually smell like? Here is an honest description, and where SOSA sits.
Quick answers — read this first
What does tobacco smell like in fragrance? Warm, sweet, dry and slightly smoky - it evokes pipe tobacco or a cosy tobacco leaf, rich, honeyed and comforting with a hay-like dryness. It's a fragrance accord (not smoking), from sweet-warm to smoky-intense.
Does SOSA make a tobacco attar? No - SOSA's range centres on oud, saffron, rose, sandalwood and jasmine, and leans warm and smooth rather than smoky. If you love tobacco's warm richness, Nawaab (oud & saffron) offers a comparable cosy depth without the smoke, from ₹399.
Is tobacco in perfume from real tobacco? It's a fragrance accord that evokes the warm, sweet, dry smell of tobacco leaf - not actual smoking. It's one of perfumery's cosy, grown-up notes, pairing well with vanilla, spice, woods and oud.
The short answer
Short answer: warm, sweet, dry and a little smoky - rich and cosy; SOSA leans warm-smooth (Nawaab) rather than smoky tobacco, from ₹399.
Tobacco in perfume is a warm, sweet, dry and slightly smoky note - it evokes pipe tobacco or a cosy tobacco leaf, rich, honeyed and comforting, with a hint of hay-like dryness (it's a fragrance accord, not smoking). It reads cosy, grown-up and a little dark, ranging from sweet-warm to smoky-intense, and pairs beautifully with vanilla, spice, woods and oud. It suits those who love deep, warm, autumnal-winter scents. An honest note on SOSA: our attar range centres on oud, saffron, rose, sandalwood and jasmine rather than tobacco - so we do not offer a tobacco attar, and our style leans warm and smooth rather than smoky. That said, if you love tobacco's warm, cosy richness, SOSA's Nawaab (white oud & saffron) offers a comparable rich, warm depth (saffron adds a warm, honeyed quality), though it is smoother and less smoky. If tobacco specifically is what you want, seek a tobacco-accord oil; if you want warm, cosy, rich depth without the smoke, Nawaab is a lovely alternative - from ₹399.
One line: warm, sweet, dry and a little smoky - rich and cosy; SOSA leans warm-smooth (Nawaab) rather than smoky tobacco, from ₹399.
A great place to start is Nawaab — the liquid-gold attar, white oud & saffron, ₹399 · or explore the attar collection from ₹379.
Tobacco is a rich, distinctive note. Here is what it smells like, honestly - and where SOSA sits.
1
Alcohol-free
A concentrated perfume oil
A true attar is alcohol-free - a concentrated oil that sits close to the skin and unfolds slowly, gentle enough for daily wear and suited to alcohol-free preferences. From ₹379.
2
Long-lasting
A little goes a long way
Because it is concentrated oil, a single dab on the pulse points lasts for hours and leaves a soft, personal trail - no heavy spray needed. Roll-on, easy to carry.
Tip: dab on wrists and neck; do not rub hard.

Traditional Indian notes
Rose, oud, saffron, jasmine, sandalwood
SOSA attars are built on classic Indian notes - Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, white oud, saffron, jasmine sambac - crafted by an ISIPCA-trained perfumer. Made in India.
The SOSA principle
A true attar is oil, not alcohol — worn close, lasting long.
Built on classic Indian notes and worn as a single dab, an attar is an intimate, personal scent with centuries of craft behind it - a world away from a loud alcohol spray.

SOSA attar roll-ons
Alcohol-free traditional attars — rose, oud, saffron, jasmine, sandalwood
I trained as a perfumer at ISIPCA in Versailles, but some of the scents I love most are the ones I grew up with in India - the attars. Rose, oud, saffron, jasmine, sandalwood: warm, deep notes worn close to the skin, with centuries of craft behind them.
So I built SOSA's attars in that spirit - alcohol-free, oil-based roll-ons on classic Indian notes, made to last from a single dab. Ameeri, Nawaab, Mastani and Adaa each tell a different story, and they are meant to feel personal and grown-up, not loud.
One honest note: attars are concentrated, so a little is plenty - and because natural materials like rose and oud can occasionally react on sensitive skin, it is worth a small patch test with any new fragrance.
