This is the complete guide: what the machine is, where it goes, how to set it up on the first afternoon, how to calibrate it in the first fortnight, what it costs to run for a year, and what it will not do for you. If you have read the rest of this series, this is the page that puts it into practice.
Quick answers — read this first
How do I set up a SOSA Vaayu at home? Ten minutes. Unbox it, fill the 400ml tank with pure fragrance oil - no water and no dilution - and place it where air already moves, at roughly chest height: the passage linking your entrance and living areas, or beside an air-conditioning return, freestanding, wall mounted or fixed to the HVAC. Pair the Bluetooth app, set two low daily windows using the 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h timers, start at the lowest intensity, and key-lock it. The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft.
How often does a SOSA Vaayu need refilling? Roughly every 60 to 75 days at a low setting, since the 400ml tank is rated to last up to about 75 days depending on intensity and run hours. That is about five fills in a year of daily use. Refill with the same fragrance rather than switching often, and wipe the nozzle area when you do. The machine costs about 1.5 units of electricity a month at 5W on a ten-hour daily schedule.
What are the full SOSA Vaayu specifications? The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml refillable tank lasting up to about 75 days, Bluetooth app and onboard button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers with adjustable intensity, operation under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W, dimensions 165 x 80.5 x 215mm at 0.9kg, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification.
The short answer
Short answer: ten minutes to set up, a fortnight to leave alone, and a refill roughly every 60 to 75 days. Fill the 400ml tank with pure oil, place the machine on moving air at chest height, set two low daily windows on the 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, start at the lowest intensity and key-lock it. Rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, under 38dB, 5W - roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for a home up to about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, run at its lowest perceptible setting on two scheduled windows a day.
Next step: send us your layout before you set it up and we will confirm the wall and the schedule - ask us what fits your home.
This is the whole ownership cycle on one line. Ten minutes on day one, a fortnight of leaving it alone, and then a refill every couple of months. That is the entire commitment.
How do I get a five-star home experience out of a SOSA Vaayu?
In four stages. Day one, about ten minutes. Unbox the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) and fill the 400ml tank with pure fragrance oil - it is a waterless machine, so there is no water, no dilution and nothing to measure. Then place it where your home already moves air, at roughly chest height: the passage that links the entrance, living room and bedrooms, or beside an air-conditioning return. It can stand on a console, wall mount, or fix to the HVAC, and at 165 x 80.5 x 215mm and 0.9kg it will not dominate a corridor. Pair the Bluetooth app, or use the onboard buttons if you would rather not. Week one, calibration. Set two windows on the 1h/4h/8h/24h timers - one late morning after the house has been aired, one starting about an hour before people come home - put the intensity at its lowest, and then do not touch it for a fortnight. You are the worst judge of your own home's smell, so calibrate by walking in from outside or by asking a visitor, and only go up one step if it is genuinely absent on entry. Month one, lock it. Once the schedule is right, use the key-lock so nobody changes the settings, which matters in a house with children; auto-stop handles the rest. The year. A fill lasts up to 75 days depending on intensity and hours, so daily use is about five fills a year; wipe the nozzle area at each refill and stay with the same fragrance rather than switching monthly. Running cost is trivial: at 5W, ten hours a day is roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month. It runs under 38dB, quieter than a fridge, and it is CE, RoHS and SGS certified and made in India. Two things to keep in mind throughout: a closed door is a wall, so leave the guest room open during a run window, and air and clean the house first - fragrance over a stale room gives you both at once. SOSA's hotel-inspired fragrances are our own original interpretations of a style of scenting, composed in our own studio. SOSA is an independent Indian brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel or hotel group. A free home scenting plan will confirm the wall and the schedule, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Three stages of ownership, and almost all of the work is in the first one. After the first fortnight this machine asks for about ten minutes of your attention every two months.
1
Day one
Fill it, place it, schedule it - about ten minutes
Fill the 400ml tank with pure fragrance oil. There is no water and no dilution step, which is the main practical difference between this and an ultrasonic mist diffuser, and the reason there is no dampness or residue in the room. Then placement, which matters more than any setting: stand in your entrance with the air conditioning on and follow the draught, then put the machine on that line at roughly chest height. In most Indian flats that is the passage linking the entrance, living room and bedrooms, or the wall beside the return-air grille. Avoid corners, positions behind furniture and the middle of a seating group. Finally pair the app and set two windows on the 1h, 4h, 8h or 24h timers.
Tip: follow the draught from your front door before you decide on a wall.
At 165 x 80.5 x 215mm and 0.9kg the Vaayu mounts on a wall, stands on a console or fixes to the HVAC return.
Lowest intensity, and the discipline to leave it there
This is the stage people get wrong. Start at the lowest intensity and do not adjust it for two weeks. Within a couple of minutes of being home you have adapted to the smell of your own house, so your judgement is the least reliable in the building. Calibrate by walking in from outside after an hour away, or simply ask a visitor. The correct level always feels slightly too faint to the person who lives there. If the fragrance is genuinely absent on entry, go up exactly one step and wait another week. Turning it up because you cannot smell it is the single most common mistake in home scenting, and it produces a level that guests find overpowering.
Adjustable intensity plus 1h to 24h timers mean the Vaayu can be set once and then genuinely left alone.
About five fills, ten minutes of maintenance, and 1.5 units a month
A 400ml fill runs up to about 75 days depending on intensity and run hours, so a year of daily use is roughly five fills. At each refill, wipe the nozzle area and the outside of the unit, and top up with the same fragrance - the whole benefit here is continuity, so resist changing it more than twice a year, and if you do change seasonally, line it up with a refill. Electricity is a non-issue: at 5W, a ten-hour daily schedule is about 1.5 units a month. Use the key-lock once the settings are right, particularly in a house with children, and let auto-stop handle the rest. The machine runs under 38dB, so it can live outside a bedroom door without anyone noticing it.
Tip: change fragrance at a refill, at most twice a year, and never room by room.
The Vaayu holds 400ml, covers 1000m³ and runs at 5W - about ₹11,999 once, and very little after that.
One machine, and this is everything it is. Waterless and heatless, so there is no dampness and no residue on wood, art, books or upholstery; quiet enough for a passage outside a bedroom; small enough to disappear on a wall; and cheap enough to run every day of the year without thinking about it. CE, RoHS and SGS certified, made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Flats and villa floors up to about 2,000-3,000 sq ft
1000m³ coverage, 400ml tank of pure oil up to 75 days, Bluetooth app and onboard buttons, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, DC 12V/1A at 5W, 165 x 80.5 x 215mm, 0.9kg, auto-stop and key-lock, CE, RoHS and SGS
And the limits, stated once more so this guide is complete. The Vaayu is not an air purifier and makes no health claim. It cannot cover cooking smell, damp, pet odour, a musty wardrobe or new-furniture off-gassing, all of which need ventilation, cleaning or time first, because fragrance over an unclean smell gives you both at once. A closed door is effectively a wall, and a continuously running exhaust fan will vent fragrance outside. A note from Sonal
I wrote this page because most of the questions we get after an order are the same four, and all of them are about setup rather than the machine. Which wall. How high. How strong. How often to refill. None of that is complicated, but getting it wrong on the first day is the difference between a house that smells consistently good and a machine somebody eventually unplugs.
If you remember two things from this guide, make them these. Put the Vaayu where the air is already moving rather than where it looks best, and start it at the lowest intensity and leave it there for a fortnight. You cannot smell your own home, so your instinct will be to turn it up in week one, and that instinct is wrong almost every time. One machine covers 1000m³ - about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft - which is a whole flat, and the tank is pure fragrance oil, no water and nothing to measure.
And the honest part, which belongs in a complete guide as much as any specification. A home smells good because it is aired and clean first, then scented. Fragrance works alongside ventilation and cleaning, never instead of them; it will not cover cooking, damp, pet odour or a musty cupboard; and it is not an air purifier and makes no health claim. SOSA's hotel-inspired fragrances are our own original interpretations of a style of scenting, composed in our own studio. SOSA is an independent Indian brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel or hotel group. Frequently asked questions
How do I set up a SOSA Vaayu for a five-star home experience?
Fill the 400ml tank with pure fragrance oil, with no water and no dilution. Place the machine where air already moves, at roughly chest height, which in most flats is the passage linking the entrance, living room and bedrooms, or beside an air-conditioning return. Pair the Bluetooth app, set two low daily windows using the 1, 4, 8 and 24 hour timers, start at the lowest intensity, and key-lock it once the schedule is right. Total time is about ten minutes.
How often do I need to refill the SOSA Vaayu?
Roughly every 60 to 75 days at a low setting, since the 400ml tank is rated to last up to about 75 days depending on intensity and run hours. That works out at about five fills over a year of daily use. Wipe the nozzle area and the outside of the unit at each refill, and top up with the same fragrance so the home keeps one continuous smell.
What does it cost to run a SOSA Vaayu every day?
Very little. The machine draws 5W on DC 12V at 1A, so a ten-hour daily schedule is roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month. The larger running cost is fragrance oil, at about five 400ml fills a year at daily use, and running at a low intensity for longer uses less oil than short bursts at a high setting while reading far better.
How loud is the SOSA Vaayu and where can it go?
It runs under 38dB, which is quieter than a domestic fridge and generally inaudible over a ceiling fan or air conditioner, so it can sit in a passage outside a bedroom. At 165 x 80.5 x 215mm and 0.9kg it can stand on a console, be wall mounted in a corridor, or be fixed to the return-air path of your air conditioning.
What is the difference between the Vaayu and a water-based ultrasonic diffuser?
The Vaayu is a waterless cold-air nebuliser that takes pure fragrance oil directly into its own 400ml tank. There is no water, no heat and no mist, so there is no added humidity and no residue on wood, art, books or textiles. Water-based fragrances are formulated for ultrasonic mist diffusers and are an entirely different system, not something to put in this machine.
Then leave it alone: About five refills a year and roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month. SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999.
Ten minutes on day one, then about five refills a year
