An estate that runs from 400 to 3,000 sq ft cannot be scented by one instruction, and every attempt to force it produces either a small store that reeks or a large store where nothing arrives. The way out is to separate what identity actually is from what equipment actually does.
Quick answers — read this first
How do we keep one scent identity across stores from 400 to 3,000 sq ft? By holding the register constant and letting everything else vary. The register - the family of materials, say Himalayan pine, sage and cedar - is what a customer recognises walking from your smallest store into your largest. It survives being carried by completely different equipment. The setting, the hardware and the run hours are answers to a specific room's volume, and a room seven times larger needs a different answer. So the sentence to write in your manual is short: the register is the constant, the setting is the variable.

Can a 400 sq ft store and a 3,000 sq ft store really use different equipment? Yes, and they should. At 400 sq ft a reed is the honest answer and a commercial machine would be over-specified - it is more air movement than the room has air. At 3,000 sq ft of connected floor a Vaayu is properly specified, rated to 1000m³, or roughly 2,000-3,000 sq ft, and reaches a deep floor from a wall or HVAC mount. A customer who visits both meets the same family of notes at both. They never meet the equipment, and nobody has ever recognised a diffuser.

How do we set intensity when every store is a different size? With a band and a test rather than a number. The band says the scent should be noticed on arrival, settled within a minute, and never the first thing a customer mentions - judged at six on a Saturday with the floor full rather than at opening on a quiet Tuesday. Each store finds its own position inside that band and records it. Staff breathe it for nine hours a day, so if the staff say it is too much, it is too much, and that judgement outranks anything head office wrote down.
The short answer
Short answer: Hold the register constant and let the setting vary. The register is the family of notes a customer recognises across your estate; the setting is an instruction to one room. A 400 sq ft store can honestly sit on a reed while a 3,000 sq ft store runs a machine, and both read as the same brand because identity lives in the notes, not the hardware.
The pick: One register across the estate - Mountain Breeze (₹849) suits a leather group - carried on reeds at 400 sq ft, a Sukoon (₹1,899) in the middle, and a SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) at 3,000 sq ft.
Next step: Send the floor areas across the estate and we will map one register onto every size band - ask for a store scenting plan.
The constant and the variableThe register is the constant across every storeThe setting is the variable, room by room400 sq ft is honestly a reed, not a machine3,000 sq ft of connected floor earns a machineA customer meets the notes, never the hardware
Identity is carried by the family of notes, which moves between a reed and a nebuliser intact. It is not carried by the dial, which nobody outside your team will ever meet.
Straight answer
How do stores from 400 to 3,000 sq ft keep one identity without one setting?
By being clear about which part of scenting is the identity and which part is plumbing. The register is the constant. The setting is the variable. A register is a family of materials - Himalayan pine, sage and cedar; or Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus; or British rose and night-blooming jasmine - and it is the only part of this that a customer can carry in their memory from one of your stores to another. It survives translation between completely different equipment. The same dry-wood register laid down by three reeds in a 400 sq ft boutique and by a nebuliser in a 3,000 sq ft flagship reads as one brand, because what reaches the customer in both rooms is the same set of notes at a comparable level. What does not survive translation is a setting. Seven times the floor area is seven times the air, plus higher ceilings, more doors, more stock and usually a different air-conditioning system, and a number that is correct in one is meaningless in the other. So write the estate up in bands and be honest at both ends. At 400 sq ft a reed is the right answer and a commercial machine is over-specified - it is more air movement than the room has air, and the level will sit too high no matter how carefully you turn it down. Between 300 and 750 sq ft, reeds placed by zone or one Sukoon near the entrance, remembering it is ultrasonic and adds a little humidity, which is a reason to keep it away from boxes and stock. From 1,500 sq ft of connected floor upward, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, waterless, rated to 1000m³, mounted on a wall or into the HVAC so it reaches a deep floor. At 3,000 sq ft that is still one unit, correctly placed - a second unit belongs to a second volume of air such as a separate upper floor, never to a second corner of the same room, because two units in one connected space make competing gradients rather than combined coverage. Then set a band rather than a number, judge it on a full Saturday evening, and let staff veto it. One thing to keep out of the plan entirely: any expectation about trade. This is an interior and brand decision, and we make no claim that scent affects sales, conversion, footfall, browsing time or basket size. Ask for a store scenting plan with your floor areas.
Hold the register constant, let the setting vary. A reed at 400 sq ft and a machine at 3,000 sq ft can be the same brand; one shared dial setting cannot.
At the 3,000 sq ft end of your estate the answer is one SOSA Vaayu per connected volume - rated to 1000m³, waterless, under 38dB, wall or HVAC mounted so it reaches a deep floor, with adjustable intensity and a key-lock. ₹11,999.

What each size band actually buys

The honesty this page turns on: your 400 sq ft store does not want a machine, and buying one for it in the name of consistency will make it your worst-smelling shop rather than your most consistent. Under about 300 sq ft, one reed. Between 300 and 750 sq ft, reeds by zone or a Sukoon near the entrance. From roughly 1,500 sq ft of connected floor, one Vaayu - and one is still the answer at 3,000 sq ft.

SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
Himalayan pine, sage and cedar. In a 400 sq ft room a reed is not a compromise, it is the correct specification - passive, silent, no power, nothing to set and nothing to drift. It carries exactly the same register as the machine in your flagship, which is the whole point of this page.

1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank lasting up to 75 days, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mount, auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Made in India.

Why identity survives the change of equipment

Three things to be clear about before you write a single line of the standard.

1
First, what identity actually is
A family of materials, not a machine and not a number
Ask what a customer could describe if you stopped them outside. They will not say medium intensity or name a diffuser. At best they will say the shop smelled dry and woody, or clean and sharp, or softly floral - which is the register, and only the register. That is why it is the right thing to standardise: it is the only part of the system that exists in the customer's experience. Everything else is machinery in service of it. Once you accept that, the mixed estate stops being a problem. A reed in a small store and a nebuliser in a large one are two ways of putting the same family of notes into two very different rooms, and neither of them is a compromised version of the other. Write the register as materials, not as adjectives, so a manager in another city cannot reinterpret it: Himalayan pine, sage and cedar means one thing; premium and warm means whatever the reader wants.
Tip: test your standard by asking whether a new manager could get it wrong - if the register is written as an adjective, they will.
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
Mountain Breeze at ₹849 is the same register whether it arrives on reeds or through a machine.
See SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser →
2
Second, why the 400 sq ft store must not get a machine
Over-specifying a small room is the fastest way to break the identity
The reason a 400 sq ft store should stay on reeds is not budget, it is physics. A commercial nebuliser is designed to put scent into hundreds of cubic metres of moving air; a small boutique has a fraction of that and little air movement to disperse it. Turn the unit down as far as it goes and you still tend to get a room that announces itself at the door, which is exactly the failure this whole exercise is meant to avoid. Worse, it breaks the identity you were trying to protect: the same register at a much higher level does not read as the same brand, it reads as a heavier and cheaper version of it. A reed in that room gives a level that behaves - a fragrant zone rather than a fragranced floor - and it costs nothing to run, needs no power and cannot drift. Put that sentence in the standard so nobody has to argue it store by store.
Tip: if the small store's manager asks for the same machine as the flagship, the answer is that the flagship has seven times the air to fill.
SOSA Sukoon
Between 300 and 750 sq ft, one Sukoon at ₹1,899 near the entrance is the middle answer.
See SOSA Sukoon →
3
Third, how to write the variable part
Bands, not numbers - and one unit per volume, however large the floor
Give each size band a permitted range and the same test, so the words are identical even though the numbers are not: noticed on arrival, settled within a minute, never the first thing a customer mentions, judged at six on a Saturday with the floor full. Record what each store lands on so the next visit is a check rather than a debate, and lock it where the equipment allows. At the large end, resist the instinct to add units. One connected volume takes one unit, correctly placed on the entrance air path and mounted where the floor is deep. A second unit is for a second volume of air - a separate upper floor, a wing on its own air conditioning, a stockroom that is genuinely its own room - and never for a second corner of the same space, where two units simply compete. And remember who is most exposed: staff, for nine hours a day. Their veto is part of the standard, not an exception to it.
SOSA Vaayu
Adjustable intensity and a key-lock on the Vaayu are what let a band be a band rather than a suggestion.
See SOSA Vaayu →
The SOSA principle
Nobody has ever recognised a diffuser. They recognise a register - which is why that is the part you standardise and the rest is plumbing.
The register is the constant. The setting, the hardware and the run hours are all variables of the room.
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed Diffuser
The constant: Mountain Breeze - Himalayan pine, sage and cedar - the same register at 400 sq ft and at 3,000. From ₹849.

The estate, band by band

The estate written out in bands, with the honest answer at each end.

The SOSA plan
One register, four size bands
Store size The honest specification
SOSA Mountain Breeze Reed DiffuserUnder 300 sq ft
One reed. A machine is over-specified here and will read as heavy however far it is turned down.
300 to 750 sq ft
Reeds placed by zone, or one Sukoon near the entrance. Ultrasonic adds humidity, so keep it clear of boxes and stock.
750 to 1,500 sq ft
The genuine decision point. It turns on whether the floor is one connected volume and on how much control you want.
1,500 to 3,000 sq ft
One Vaayu per connected volume, on the entrance air path, wall or HVAC mounted. Still one unit at 3,000 sq ft.

The five-store version of this question is in one signature across five stores, and the zoning question at the large end in one machine or multiple zones at 1,500 sq ft. SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with any hotel or footwear brand named for reference.

SOSA Vaayu
At the large end: SOSA Vaayu - 1000m³, waterless, wall or HVAC mount, adjustable intensity, key-lock, under 38dB. ₹11,999.
Same register, different specification
SOSA Vaayu ₹11,999 at the 3,000 sq ft end - and a reed from ₹749 at the 400 sq ft end, carrying the identical register.

A reed in a small shop and a nebuliser in a flagship are two ways of saying the same thing. One shared dial setting is two ways of saying different things.

A note from Sonal

This is the question I most enjoy answering, because the honest answer saves the group money and improves the result at the same time. An estate running from 400 to 3,000 sq ft has one thing that can be identical and several that cannot. The register is the thing. Everything downstream of it - hardware, level, run hours, mounting - is an answer to a specific room, and a room seven times bigger is entitled to a different answer.

In practice that means your smallest stores stay on a Mountain Breeze reed at ₹849 and I will argue against putting a machine in them even if the budget exists. Your 3,000 sq ft floor takes one Vaayu at ₹11,999, mounted, on the entrance air path. A customer who visits both meets the same dry woods. That is the identity, and it was never in the equipment.

The limits, as always. Ambient fragrance is a brand and interior decision, and we make no claim that it increases sales, footfall, browsing time or influences what anyone buys. It never masks a smell that has a source - your stockroom, boxes and trying areas come first at every size. Staff breathe it longest and their judgement outranks any standard I write. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

How do we keep one scent identity across 400 to 3,000 sq ft stores?
Hold the register constant and let the setting vary. The register is the family of notes a customer recognises across the estate, and it survives being carried by completely different equipment. The setting is an instruction to one room, and a room seven times larger needs a different one. Write it as one line in the standard: the register is the constant, the setting is the variable.
Should the 400 sq ft store get the same machine as the 3,000 sq ft store?
No. At 400 sq ft a reed is the correct specification rather than a compromise, because a commercial nebuliser is built for hundreds of cubic metres of moving air and a small boutique has a fraction of that. Turned right down it still tends to announce itself at the door, which breaks the identity you were protecting. A reed from Rs 749 carries the same register at a level the room can hold.
Does a 3,000 sq ft store need two machines?
Not if it is one connected volume. One correctly placed unit on the entrance air path, wall or HVAC mounted, covers it - the Vaayu is rated to 1000m3, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft. A second unit belongs to a second volume of air such as a separate upper floor or a wing on its own air conditioning, never to a second corner of the same room, where two units simply compete.
How do we write intensity into a standard when the stores differ so much?
As a band with a test rather than a number. The scent should be noticed on arrival, settled within a minute, and never the first thing a customer mentions, judged at six on a Saturday with the floor full. Each store finds its position inside the band and records it, and staff can veto the level because they breathe it for nine hours a day.
Will customers notice that the small stores use reeds?
They meet the notes, not the equipment. Nobody has ever recognised a diffuser, and a customer walking from your smallest store to your largest should meet the same dry woods, or the same citrus, at a comparable level. That is what identity means here. We make no claim that any of this affects sales, footfall or what anyone buys - it is an interior and brand decision.
