Two answers here, and the second one is the useful half. Yes, put it in the plan - and then do not switch it on for the first few weeks, because a brand-new centre does not smell of nothing, it smells of adhesive, paint and new textiles, and a fragrance running into that is not a fragrance anybody chose.
Quick answers — read this first
Should ambient scenting be in the interior plan? Yes, but on the services drawing rather than the mood board. What it needs from the plan is unglamorous: a 5W power point, a mounting position on the supply side of the AC, and a written list of the rooms that stay unscented. Fragrance selection can wait until after handover, when you can stand in the finished room. Retrofitting works perfectly well, but it always costs a visible cable or a compromise on where the machine goes.
When should it actually be switched on? Weeks after opening, not on day one. A newly finished centre smells strongly of itself - adhesive, paint, sealant, new upholstery and carpet - and that is a building settling, which time and ventilation deal with. Running a fragrance into it produces a compound smell nobody selected. Fragrance is never a way to cover or mask another smell, and this is the clearest case of that rule in the whole cluster. Wait until the building smells of nothing, then start at the lowest useful level.
What should I budget? One machine. For a centre past roughly 1,500 sq ft, or one with corridors and closed cabins, that is one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, which ships with four 100ml oils and runs 90+ days on a 400ml fill. Under about 750 sq ft it is a SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899. There is no installation line to budget, because there is nothing to install beyond two wall screws.
The short answer
Short answer: yes, on the services drawing rather than the mood board - one 5W power point, a mounting position on the AC supply side, and a written list of rooms that stay unscented. Then leave it switched off for the first few weeks, because a new centre smells of adhesive, paint and new textiles and fragrance is never used to cover a smell. One SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, or a Sukoon at ₹1,899 under 750 sq ft.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) specified at drawings stage with a socket and a mounting position on the reception air path, commissioned a few weeks after opening at the lowest useful setting.
Next step: send the services drawing and the room schedule with the clinical rooms marked, and we will mark the one scented zone, the socket position and the week to switch it on - Ask for a clinic scenting plan.
The plan needs three unglamorous things from you and no fragrance decision at all. The fragrance decision is better made standing in the finished room, several weeks after you open.

Should ambient scenting be included in the interior plan for a first premium women's health centre?
Yes - and the important part of that yes is where it goes in the plan, which is the services drawing rather than the mood board. What ambient scenting actually needs from a design package is dull and small: a 5W power point where the machine will sit or hang, a mounting position on the supply side of the air conditioning rather than near a return or an extract, and a written list of the rooms that will never be scented. That is the whole ask, and if it goes in at drawings stage it costs nothing at all. Retrofitted, everything still works - the machine is freestanding or takes two wall screws - but you end up choosing between a visible cable, a compromise position, or a small trunking job in a finished reception, and you will notice all three. What does not belong in the plan at this stage is the fragrance itself. That decision is much better made standing in the finished room with the lighting on and the furniture in, because a register that looked right on a board can read quite differently in a beige and blush reception at four in the afternoon. Which brings me to the thing I most want a first-time founder to hear, because I watch people get it wrong every opening season. Do not switch it on in opening week. A newly completed centre does not smell of nothing - it smells emphatically of itself: adhesive, paint, sealant, MDF, new carpet, new upholstery, the whole chemistry of a building that finished three days ago. That fades over a few weeks with time and ventilation, and it is a facilities matter rather than a fragrance one. If you run a scent machine into it, you do not get your signature profile - you get your profile plus a curing building, which is a compound nobody chose and which will be the first impression of your centre for the exact fortnight when everyone influential is visiting. Fragrance is never a way to cover, hide or mask another smell, and a new fit-out is the clearest illustration of that rule anywhere in this cluster. So: specify it, install it, leave it off, open, ventilate hard, and switch it on a few weeks later at the lowest useful setting once the building smells of nothing. On hardware, one machine is the whole budget. For a centre past roughly 1,500 sq ft or with corridors and closed cabins, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 - waterless, under 38dB, 400ml running 90+ days a fill, app timers and a key-lock so the level you agree at commissioning is still the level in month six. Below about 750 sq ft it is a SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 and a Vaayu would be the wrong buy. The zoning goes on the room schedule and does not move: entrance, reception, waiting and corridors only, with examination, prenatal, scan, postpartum, lactation and treatment rooms completely unscented, one seating area unscented by design, and staff able to stop it in seconds. This is an ambience decision with no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it sits alongside your cleaning and ventilation and never instead of them, and your judgement as the treating clinician overrides any plan in your own rooms. Ask for a clinic scenting plan and send the drawings while they are still drawings.
Yes - on the services drawing: one socket, one mounting position, one written list of unscented rooms. Then leave it off for the first few weeks, because a new centre smells of its own fit-out and fragrance is never used to cover a smell.
For a first centre past about 1,500 sq ft the machine is one SOSA Vaayu - 5W, waterless, under 38dB, rated to 1000m³, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, with app timers and a key-lock. ₹11,999. Under 750 sq ft, specify the Sukoon at ₹1,899 instead and save the socket for something else.
You are specifying a socket and a position rather than choosing a fragrance, so the only decision that matters at drawings stage is which of these two machines your centre is sized for. The images link to the product pages.
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft. 5W, DC 12V/1A, 165 × 80.5 × 215mm and 0.9kg, so the mounting bracket is trivial. 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, app timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, auto-stop and key-lock. Freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted.
Ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft, supplied with three 15ml fragrances so you can settle the register in the finished room rather than on a board. It needs a counter and a socket and nothing else, which is why it rarely appears on a drawing at all.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), DC 12V/1A at 5W, 165 × 80.5 × 215mm, 0.9kg, freestanding or wall and HVAC mount, 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS certified - electrical and compliance marks, never medical approvals. Made in India.
None of these is a fragrance decision, which is why they can all be settled months before you have any idea what the centre should smell like.

Mark a socket and a position
One 5W point, on the supply side of the air conditioning
The machine draws 5W and weighs under a kilogram, so this is a small ask of any electrical layout - but the position matters more than the power. Mount on the supply side of the AC, where air is being pushed out, rather than anywhere near a return or an extract, which will simply pull the fragrance straight out of the room. Keep it away from the entrance draught too, because a door opening every ninety seconds makes a mockery of any setting. Ten to twelve feet inside the entrance, on the reception air path, is usually right. Get this on the drawing and the whole job is two screws at handover.
Tip: If the only sensible position is discovered after the walls are painted, you will see the cable for years.
One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.
A list in the room schedule outlives everyone who agreed it verbally
This is the single most useful thing a first-time founder can do, and it costs a line of text. On the room schedule, next to each room, write scented or unscented. Examination rooms, prenatal and scan rooms, postpartum care rooms, lactation and feeding rooms, pelvic-floor and other treatment cabins, procedure and recovery areas: unscented, always, and never lightly scented. Reception, waiting and corridors: scented. Also mark the seating bay that stays unscented by design. Written down, it survives your project manager leaving, your first front-desk hire and your second. Agreed verbally, it lasts about a month.
Tip: Add one line to the operations manual too: any member of staff may switch it off, without asking.
One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.
Put a date in the programme several weeks after opening and leave the machine off until then. A finished fit-out gives off adhesive, paint, sealant, MDF and new textiles for some time, and ventilation and time are what deal with that - not fragrance, which is never used to cover or mask a smell and would simply add to the one already in the room. You also gain something by waiting: you get to choose the register while standing in the completed reception with the lighting and furniture in, which is a much better decision than one made from a board. Then start at the lowest useful setting and hold it.
One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.
Scenting belongs in a first-centre plan as a socket, a position and a line on the room schedule - and belongs in the opening programme as a date several weeks after the doors open.
The fragrance decision is the only part of this that improves by being made late, because you can only judge it standing in the finished room.

The SOSA plan
Ambient scenting through a first-centre build programme
The stage
What to do
Services drawing
One 5W power point at the mounting position on the reception air path, supply side of the AC. No fragrance decision required yet.
Room schedule
Every room marked scented or unscented in writing, with all clinical rooms unscented and one waiting bay unscented by design.
Handover
Machine mounted, two screws, and left switched off. There is no installation service published, so do not budget for one without confirming with SOSA.
Opening week
Still off. The building is giving off adhesive, paint and new textiles, and ventilation deals with that - fragrance never does and is never used to cover it.
A few weeks after opening
Commission at the lowest useful setting, on a timer covering clinic hours only, and walk in from outside to judge it rather than trusting your own nose indoors.
Month two onwards
Key-lock on, level unchanged, and reduced or switched off the moment any patient asks - without argument and without being asked to sit with it.
Every opening season somebody switches the machine on the day the doors open, and spends the next month wondering why their signature profile smells faintly of sealant.

Why this machine on a new build
Small, dry, quiet and locked - four things a first centre wants
Two machines cover almost every first centre, and which one goes on the drawing is decided by air volume and air path rather than by ambition. Installation, warranty, AMC, spare parts, bulk pricing and delivery timing are not published, so confirm anything you intend to write into a contract with SOSA directly. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Specify the socket and the position early, choose the fragrance late, and leave the machine switched off until the building has stopped smelling of its own fit-out - because fragrance is never used to cover, hide or mask another smell. Keep every clinical room - examination, prenatal, scan, postpartum, lactation, treatment - completely unscented rather than lightly scented, and keep one seating area unscented by design. This is an ambience decision like lighting or seating, with no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it works alongside cleaning and ventilation rather than instead of them, and no one can promise it changes anything about how the centre performs commercially. Ask for a clinic scenting plan before you spend anything.

A note from Sonal
First-time founders ask me this at exactly the wrong moment - usually when the mood board is being finalised and everyone is discussing whether the centre should feel warm or cool. The honest reframe is that scenting has almost nothing to contribute to that conversation and quite a lot to contribute to the electrical layout. It wants a socket, a position and a line on the room schedule. It does not want an opinion yet.
The part I care about more is the timing, because this is where I see first centres go wrong. A building that finished last week smells like a building that finished last week - adhesive, paint, sealant, new upholstery - and it keeps doing that for a while. Time and ventilation are what fix it. If you switch a diffuser on into that, you have not chosen a signature scent, you have created a compound with a curing fit-out, and everybody important is walking through in precisely that fortnight. Leave it off. Open. Ventilate hard. Then commission it a few weeks later, in a room that smells of nothing, standing at the door with the lights on.
On hardware, one machine is the whole line. A Vaayu at ₹11,999 for a centre past 1,500 sq ft, or a Sukoon at ₹1,899 for a single reception, and there is no installation cost because there is nothing to install. Examination, scan, postpartum, lactation and treatment rooms get nothing at all, written into the room schedule before handover, and one seat in the waiting area stays unscented by design. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
Should ambient scenting be included in the interior plan for a first women's health centre?
Yes, but on the services drawing rather than the mood board. It needs a 5W power point at the mounting position, a position on the supply side of the air conditioning and away from the entrance draught, and a written list on the room schedule of which rooms stay unscented. The fragrance decision itself is better made later, standing in the finished reception. Budget one machine: a SOSA Vaayu at Rs 11,999, or a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 under about 750 sq ft.
When should a new centre switch its scenting on?
Several weeks after opening, not on day one. A newly completed fit-out gives off adhesive, paint, sealant, MDF and new textiles for some time, and time and ventilation are what deal with that. Running a fragrance into a curing building gives you your profile plus the building, which is a compound nobody chose. Fragrance is never used to cover or mask another smell. Wait until the room smells of nothing, then start at the lowest useful setting.
What happens if I retrofit it later instead of planning for it?
It works. The machine is freestanding or takes two wall screws and draws 5W, so nothing is impossible after the fact. What you lose is choice: the good mounting position may have no socket near it, so you end up with a visible cable, a compromise position that fights the air path, or a small trunking job in a finished reception. Planning it costs one line on a drawing and removes all three of those outcomes.
Which rooms should be marked unscented on the room schedule?
Examination rooms, prenatal and scan rooms, postpartum care rooms, lactation and feeding rooms, pelvic-floor and other treatment cabins, procedure and recovery areas, and any room where a patient is undressed, mid-treatment or waiting on a result. Unscented means unscented rather than a lower setting. Mark one seating bay in the waiting area as unscented by design as well, and add a line to the operations manual saying any staff member may switch the machine off without asking.
Is there an installation charge or an AMC I should budget for?
There is nothing to install beyond two wall screws, and an installation service is not published. AMC, warranty terms, spare parts, bulk pricing, multi-site rollout and corporate or GST invoicing arrangements are also not published, so confirm any of those with SOSA directly rather than writing them into a build contract. The published facts are the specification, the price and free shipping above Rs 499.
What a smaller first centre needs: SOSA Sukoon, ultrasonic, roughly 270-320 sq ft, three 15ml fragrances included. ₹1,899.
The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) covers up to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, draws 5W and mounts to a wall or into the AC supply, so all it asks of a drawing is one power point; below about 750 sq ft the honest answer is a Sukoon at ₹1,899. Waterless, under 38dB, made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. Send the drawings while they are still drawings.
About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Product recommendations reflect the SOSA range; the planning advice applies to any brand.
Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification, which are electrical and compliance marks and not medical approvals. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and is supplied with three 15ml fragrances; the water-based Hotel Collection (₹299 / ₹999 / ₹1,799) is an ultrasonic fragrance and is not a refill for a waterless cold-air machine. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with 50ml lasting about 6-8 weeks and 130ml about 14-18 weeks. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml included and further refills should be confirmed with SOSA. Warranty, annual maintenance, installation and bulk terms are not published and should be confirmed before ordering. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it makes no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and infection control and is never a substitute for any of them, it is never used to mask another smell, and no claim is made that fragrance influences a patient's decision or any commercial outcome. Clinical areas including procedure, post-procedure and photography rooms are left unscented, and the treating clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan in their own room. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference. Coverage, fragrance usage and running cost depend on the space, settings and hours of use, and are confirmed on a consultation. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live product pages.
