It's the summer question I'm asked most: fresh or woody in the heat? My honest answer is that in extreme heat, fresh almost always wins the
day - but a woody attar still owns the cool evening. Here's how I'd choose between
Adaa and
Nawaab.
Quick answers — read this first
Fresh or woody in extreme heat? Fresh for daytime - heat flatters clean citrus-cardamom and strains deep woods. Woody comes back into its own on a cool evening.
Why does woody feel heavy in the sun? Heat amplifies the deep, resinous base of a woody oud attar, which can feel dense and warm on already-hot skin. Fresh has no such weight to swell.
Can I wear both in summer? Ideally, yes - Adaa (from ₹379) through the hot day, Nawaab (from ₹399) once the evening cools. Different tools for different hours.
The short answer
Short answer: In extreme heat, a fresh attar wins the daytime and a woody attar wins the cool evening. Heat amplifies fragrance, which flatters the clean citrus-cardamom-jasmine of Adaa (from ₹379) but pushes the deep resinous base of a woody oud like Nawaab (from ₹399) toward heavy. Wear fresh through the hot day and switch to woody after sunset - the ideal summer is both, timed right.
Best pick: for longevity and projection, the
Nawaab attar (oud & saffron, from ₹399); for a fresh, subtle daily signature,
Adaa (from ₹379). Every attar is a 3/6/12ML roll-on.
Performance, honestly Concentrated oil attars - long wear and close-to-skin intimacy, in a roll-on you can reapply anywhere Shop attars · from ₹379
Straight answer
Should I wear a fresh or a woody attar in extreme heat?
For the hot daytime, wear fresh -
Adaa (from ₹379) - which the heat lifts bright and clean.
For a cool evening, switch to woody -
Nawaab (from ₹399) - whose oud-saffron base loves the drop in temperature.
If you own one only for summer, make it the fresh one; if you own two, you're covered from noon to night.
Made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Fresh owns the hot day; woody owns the cool evening. In extreme heat, timing is everything.
How heat treats fresh and woody differently
1
Fresh in the heat
Lifted, clean, effortless
SOSA Adaa · Bergamot & JasmineFrom ₹379 A fresh attar is built from bright, volatile notes - the bergamot and cardamom in
Adaa. Heat lifts them, and because there's nothing sweet or heavy underneath, that lift reads as crisp and clean. This is why fresh is the natural summer daytime choice: the weather does the work for it.
2
Woody in the heat
Deep, warm, best when cool
SOSA Nawaab · White Oud & SaffronFrom ₹399 A woody attar like
Nawaab is built on a deep, resinous oud-saffron base. That base is gorgeous - but heat amplifies its warmth, and on already-hot skin it can feel dense at midday. Give it a cool evening and the very same depth turns rich and magnetic instead of heavy.
3
The in-between
Warm florals split the difference
SOSA Ameeri · Rose & SandalwoodFrom ₹385 If you want something between the two,
Ameeri (from ₹385) - Taif rose and sandalwood - is warm and rich without the deep oud weight. It handles a cooler summer daytime or a festive evening better than a full oud does.
Tip: Rule of thumb: the hotter the hour, the fresher you go; the cooler it gets, the more wood you can wear.
Maximum longevity & projection SOSA Nawaab From ₹399 Nawaab (White Oud & Saffron) is the powerhouse of the range - a deep, resinous oud-saffron base that holds on skin for hours and projects for the first stretch of an evening. If longevity and presence are your priority, start here. Sizes 3ML (₹399), 6ML (₹699), 12ML (₹1,199). See Nawaab →

The SOSA principle
Fresh and woody aren't rivals in summer - they're a morning attar and an evening attar. The heat just decides which is which.
Let the temperature choose for you.
Fresh, subtle & office-friendly SOSA Adaa From ₹379 Adaa (Bergamot + Cardamom + Jasmine Sambac) is the daytime-grace choice - clean, fresh, and sitting close to the skin, so it lasts without filling a shared room. The right pick for AC offices, hot-humid days and anyone who prefers a quiet signature. Sizes 3ML (₹379), 6ML (₹669), 12ML (₹1,149). See Adaa →
People frame fresh versus woody as a fight. In an Indian summer it isn't - it's a schedule. Fresh takes the day shift, woody takes the night.

Which attar to pick
The whole decision fits in one box: match the attar to the performance you actually want - longevity and projection, warm richness, a quiet floral, or hot-weather freshness - and remember an oil rewards you most on well-moisturised pulse points. How to read this box: attars are concentrated perfume oils, so as a family they wear
longer and closer to the skin than alcohol sprays - you trade some room-filling projection for longevity and a refined, intimate trail. For the most presence,
Nawaab (oud & saffron) projects hardest and lasts longest; for a clean daytime signature that won't overwhelm a shared cabin,
Adaa is the pick. Every attar comes as a 3ML pocket roll-on (from ₹379) that's effortless to reapply, plus 6ML and 12ML. Scent behaves differently on every person and in every climate, so give it ten minutes on your skin before you judge it, and layer on pulse points for more strength. Everything is made in India; a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Why a roll-on oil Long wear, easy reapply From ₹379 An attar is concentrated perfume oil: it wears longer and closer to the skin than an alcohol spray, and the roll-on format is spill-proof and pocketable - the 3ML slips into a bag for touch-ups. Oils lean toward longevity and intimacy over big room-filling projection; for maximum projection, layer or choose the deeper Nawaab. Shop the range →

Everything is made and supported from Pune, and a part of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali. You get a fragrance that lasts; a girl gets a classroom. That equation has always felt right to me.
Frequently asked questions
Is woody just wrong for summer, then?
Not wrong - just misplaced at midday. A woody oud on a cool summer evening is one of the best things you can wear. It's the peak-sun hours where fresh clearly wins.
Which lasts longer in heat, fresh or woody?
Nawaab is the longest-wearing in the range overall, but in extreme daytime heat its intensity can be the problem rather than the point. Adaa lasts long and stays clean, which is what daytime summer actually needs.
If I can only buy one for summer, which?
The fresh one - Adaa. It covers the hardest part of an Indian summer, the hot day, and is still pleasant in the evening. Add Nawaab later for cool nights.
Fresh vs woody
Fresh for the day, woody for the night
Adaa from ₹379 handles the heat; Nawaab from ₹399 owns the cool evening. Or try the trio to explore both.

About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. Fragrance performance - longevity, projection and sillage - depends on the perfume, but also on your skin type, body chemistry, the weather and how much you apply, so descriptions here are honest guidance, not guarantees. Attars are concentrated perfume oils: they generally wear longer and closer to the skin than alcohol-based EDPs, trading some projection for longevity and intimacy. Always test on skin and give a fragrance ten minutes to settle before judging it; patch-test if you have sensitive skin, and keep oils away from the eyes.
