What buyers ask us about hotel and spa scents
Including the questions where the answer is "we do not make that" and "you cannot put that on your skin"
"I want to smell like a luxury hotel lobby. What do I buy?"
Usually a clean white musk with soft woods. In our range that is Adaa. What we will not do is tell you it reproduces any particular hotel, because it does not and we have no authorisation to try.
Hotel-inspired scent · answered by Sonal Sahani
"Can I wear my reed diffuser oil as a perfume?"
No. Reed oil is assessed for evaporation from a reed in a room, not for leave-on skin application. They are different use cases with different exposure, and we will not sell you one as the other.
Home against skin · answered by Sonal Sahani
"You make a lavender reed diffuser. Do you make a lavender attar?"
No. Evening Calm is Himalayan lavender and chamomile for a room. We do not make a lavender attar, and rather than steer you to something that is not lavender, we will tell you that plainly.
What we do not make · answered by Sonal Sahani
"I want white tea and clean hotel linen on my skin."
We do not make that as an attar. Adaa is the closest thing we have, and it is citrus and jasmine sambac over white musk rather than a linen accord. If linen is the point, we are not your brand for it.
Clean linen · answered by Sonal Sahani
"Which hotel is the Hotel Collection based on?"
It is our own interpretation of a style of hospitality scenting. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel group, and it is an ultrasonic diffuser fragrance for rooms rather than a skin product.
Independence · answered by Sonal Sahani
"Will it last all day like my spray?"
We do not publish hour figures for any fragrance, because how long one seems to last depends on your skin, the weather and how quickly you stop noticing it. An oil-carried attar sits close rather than projecting.

Founder Diaries · Luxury Hotel & Spa Inspired Fragrance
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 12 min read Updated October 2026
Two axes settle the spa shortlist: how much herbal character you want and how much woody weight. Mapping our range onto that grid produces something most brands would hide, which is one empty quadrant. We make nothing high-herbal as a skin fragrance, so a third of the grid has no answer from us and we would rather show you that than fill it with an approximation.
Quick answers — read this first
What are the two axes? Herbal intensity, meaning how much green, aromatic or camphoraceous character is present, and woody intensity, meaning how much dense creamy or dry wood sits underneath.

Which quadrant is empty at SOSA? Everything high-herbal. We make no lavender, vetiver, eucalyptus, sage or pine as skin fragrance, so a third of the grid has no answer from our attars.

What do we cover? Low-herbal across the whole woody range. Adaa Rs 379 is low on both axes, Ameeri Rs 385 is low-herbal and moderately woody, Nawaab Rs 399 is low-herbal and heavily woody.
The short answer
Short answer: Two axes: herbal intensity and woody intensity. SOSA covers low-herbal across the woody range with Adaa Rs 379, Ameeri Rs 385 and Nawaab Rs 399. Everything high-herbal is an empty quadrant, since no lavender, vetiver, sage or pine is made for skin.
The honest limit: no fragrance we sell reproduces any hotel, spa, resort or retail brand's proprietary scent, and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any of them. Where we do not make a family, we say so rather than recommending something adjacent.
Home is not skin: reed diffuser oil and the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance are assessed for room use and are not assessed or sold for application to skin. Attars and solid perfumes are the skin products.
Where a hotel-style scent actually lives - and what it is assessed forUltrasonic mist diffuser - water-based Hotel Collection fragrance, room useReed diffuser - its own alcohol-free reed oil, room useAttar or solid perfume - assessed for leave-on skinThe three do not interchangeA scent family can cross between them. A formulation cannot, because the exposure is different.
You can carry a scent family from a room to your skin. You cannot carry a formulation, because a product assessed for evaporating in a room has not been assessed for sitting on you. That distinction is the whole of this guide.
Straight answer
Where do your attars sit on the spa grid?
Along one edge of it, and we will show you the gap. Axis one, herbal intensity. How much green, aromatic or camphoraceous character is present: lavender, sage, vetiver, eucalyptus, pine. High-herbal reads as treatment-room; low-herbal reads as warm and quiet. Axis two, woody intensity. How much dense wood sits underneath: none, a creamy floor, or a full woody structure. What we cover. Low herbal, low woody: Adaa ₹379, a white musk accord with bergamot, green cardamom and jasmine sambac. The cardamom is the only aromatic note and it is warm, not cooling. Low herbal, moderate woody: Ameeri ₹385, Indian sandalwood with Taif rose, saffron and soft oudh. Low herbal, high woody: Nawaab ₹399, Mysore sandalwood under a leading white royal oud with Kashmir saffron. What we do not cover. Anything high-herbal, at any woody weight. We make no lavender, vetiver, eucalyptus, sage or pine as skin fragrance, and the reason is format rather than stock: those materials live in volatile tops that an oil carrier mutes and Indian heat removes. Our herbals are Evening Calm and Mountain Breeze, both reed diffusers for rooms, not assessed for skin. +91 96192 18531.
Low-herbal across the woody range we have. High-herbal we do not make for skin, at any weight.
If the brief is clean, quiet and expensive-feeling, the honest starting point in our range is Adaa at ₹379 for 3ml. If it is polished woods, Nawaab at ₹399.

Two axes, and one empty quadrant

The empty quadrant is more informative than the full ones, so it is worth explaining rather than apologising for. Herbal materials in a spa brief are almost entirely top-note materials. Lavender, sage, eucalyptus, pine and the green facets of vetiver all live in relatively volatile fractions, which is exactly why they read as fresh and airy in the first place: freshness in perfumery is largely a function of volatility. An oil carrier works by slowing evaporation, holding materials against the skin and releasing them gradually, and that mechanism is ideal for heavy materials and actively unhelpful for light ones. Add an Indian climate, where skin temperature and ambient temperature both accelerate the loss of the volatile fraction, and the herbal spa brief becomes a format mismatch rather than a preference we have declined to serve. The brands that do offer it in an oil are usually either dosing the herbal material very heavily, which pushes it from fresh towards medicinal, or relying on the first twenty minutes and accepting that what remains is a different fragrance. Neither outcome is what the customer asked for. A room diffuser, by contrast, releases continuously into moving air and never needs the material to persist on a surface, which is why that is where our lavender and our sage live, and why we have left them there.

1
Why herbal does not survive an oil
Freshness is volatility
Lavender, sage, eucalyptus, pine and vetiver's green facets all live in volatile fractions, which is precisely why they read as fresh. An oil carrier works by slowing evaporation, which is ideal for heavy materials and unhelpful for light ones. Indian temperatures accelerate the loss further.
Tip: So this is a format mismatch, not a preference we declined to serve.
2
What brands do instead, and why it fails
Overdose, or rely on twenty minutes
The usual workarounds are dosing the herbal material heavily, which pushes it from fresh towards medicinal, or accepting that the composition after the first twenty minutes is a different fragrance from the one sold. Neither outcome matches what a customer asking for a fresh herbal attar wanted.
3
Where our herbals do live
Rooms, where continuous release solves it
A diffuser releases into moving air continuously and never needs a material to persist on a surface, which suits volatile herbals exactly. Evening Calm carries Himalayan lavender with chamomile and Mountain Breeze carries Himalayan pine, sage and cedar. Both use our own alcohol-free reed oil and neither is assessed for skin.
Tip: We left them there on purpose rather than forcing them into a format that would not hold them.
The SOSA principle
Freshness in perfumery is largely volatility. An oil carrier exists to slow volatility down.
Which is why a fresh herbal attar is a format mismatch, and why we would rather leave a quadrant empty.

The grid, with the gap named

The grid as it actually stands, in 3ml so the shortlist is cheap to test. Low herbal, low woody: Adaa ₹379 - the quietest and cleanest thing we make, and the right starting point if the spa idea you have in mind is airy rather than warm. Low herbal, moderate woody: Ameeri ₹385 - Indian sandalwood gives the creamy floor, Taif rose keeps it from being austere, and the soft oudh adds depth without taking over. Our strongest single answer for this cluster. Low herbal, high woody: Nawaab ₹399 - full and warm, with oud leading. A spa impression only in the sense of a very warm treatment room. High herbal, any weight: nothing from us on skin. If herbal is non-negotiable for you, we are not the right house for that particular brief and would rather say so than sell you Adaa and describe it as herbal, which it is not.

High herbal, any weight Nothing from us on skin. Evening Calm and Mountain Breeze carry our herbals as reed diffusers for rooms, not assessed for skin

For the material-by-material version, lavender, sandalwood, vetiver and musk in spa scenting. For the families behind the grid, which fragrance families are associated with calm, spa-like experiences. And for the sandalwood route on a tighter budget, a spa-inspired sandalwood attar under ₹1,500 and what to compare. What SOSA actually makes

Every SOSA attar and solid perfume is alcohol-free and assessed for leave-on skin application. Our reed diffusers and the Hotel Collection ultrasonic fragrance are home products and are not assessed for skin. Here is the range with the honest description of each, including the families we do not make at all.

What we actually make, and what each one is for
One genuinely clean attar, two woody ones, two musk-based solids, and a room fragrance that is not for skin
Product Where it sits What it is, honestly From
Adaa attar 3ml The clean one · closest to a hotel lobby Bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac and a white musk accord. The only genuinely clean, airy composition in our attar range, and the honest answer to most hotel-inspired requests ₹379
Nawaab attar 3ml Polished woods · expensive interiors White royal oud, Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron. For wooden-interior and quiet-luxury requests rather than clean-linen ones ₹399
Ameeri attar 3ml Warm sandalwood · heritage hospitality Taif rose, Indian sandalwood, saffron and soft oudh. Rose inside a warm resinous structure, closest to a grand Indian hotel atmosphere ₹385
Velour solid 15g White musk base · skin-close Toasted almond and whipped cream over a white musk base. Soft and skin-close, and sweeter than a hotel-clean scent, which we would rather say than imply ₹479
Sterling solid 15g Powdered musk · refined Almond nougat and white amber over powdered musk. Refined and velvety, and genuinely powdery, so not for anyone who has told us they dislike powder ₹469
Hotel Collection 15ml Rooms only · never skin Water-based fragrance for ultrasonic mist diffusers. Our own interpretation of hospitality scenting, for air rather than for people ₹299

Attars come in 3ml, 6ml and 12ml: Adaa ₹379 / ₹669 / ₹1,149; Ameeri ₹385 / ₹679 / ₹1,165; Mastani ₹389 / ₹685 / ₹1,179; Nawaab ₹399 / ₹699 / ₹1,199; the three-attar trio ₹1,055 / ₹1,859 / ₹3,189 against ₹1,173 / ₹2,063 / ₹3,543 bought singly. Solid body perfumes are 15g, alcohol-free, from ₹459. What we do not make as a skin fragrance: white tea, clean linen or cotton musk, lavender, vetiver, cedarwood, aquatic or marine, and pine. Several of those exist in our home range and are not assessed for skin. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

A note from Sonal

"I want to smell like a five-star hotel" is one of my favourite things a customer can say, because it tells me far more than a note list would. It tells me you want clean rather than sweet, quiet rather than loud, and expensive-feeling rather than obviously perfumed. That is a brief I can work with.

It also comes with two things I have to be straight with you about. The first is that I cannot sell you a hotel's scent. Those are proprietary compositions made for specific groups, and anybody offering you a reproduction is either guessing or doing something they should not. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel group. What I can do is work in the same fragrance families and say so honestly.

The second is harder on my own sales. Our home fragrances are not for your skin. Reed oil is assessed for evaporating from a reed in a room. The Hotel Collection is a water-based fragrance for an ultrasonic mist diffuser. Neither has been assessed for leave-on application to a person, and the exposure is completely different. I will not sell you one as the other, however much you like how it smells in your hallway.

And there are things we simply do not make. No lavender attar. No vetiver attar. No white tea, no clean linen, no cedarwood, no aquatic. Several of those scents live in our reed diffusers and stay there. If that is what you came for, I would rather tell you than sell you something adjacent and hope you do not notice. A portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

What are the two axes for a spa shortlist?
Herbal intensity, meaning how much green, aromatic or camphoraceous character is present, and woody intensity, meaning how much dense wood sits underneath. Those two decide the shortlist faster than any note list.
Where does Adaa sit?
Low on both axes. It is a white musk accord with bergamot, green cardamom and jasmine sambac, where the cardamom is the only aromatic note and it is warm rather than cooling. The airy reading of the spa idea.
Which is the strongest single answer in this cluster?
Ameeri at Rs 385. Indian sandalwood gives the creamy floor, Taif rose keeps it from being austere, and the soft oudh adds depth without taking over. Low herbal with moderate woody weight.
Why does SOSA make nothing high-herbal for skin?
Format. Lavender, sage, eucalyptus, pine and vetiver's green facets live in volatile fractions, which is why they read as fresh. An oil carrier slows evaporation, which suits heavy materials and works against light ones, and Indian heat worsens it.
What if herbal is non-negotiable for me?
Then we are not the right house for that brief on skin, and we would rather say so than sell you Adaa and describe it as herbal. Our herbals are the Evening Calm and Mountain Breeze reed diffusers, which are room products not assessed for skin.
Buy the family, not the brand name
SOSA — alcohol-free attars and solid perfumes, with home fragrance kept where it belongs

Formulation and use: SOSA attars are formulated with an oil carrier and no added ethanol, contain no intentionally added DEP, and are assessed as leave-on fine fragrance applied to skin at their actual selling concentration. Supplier IFRA conformity statements, declarable-allergen lists and the finished-product safety assessment are available per product on WhatsApp on +91 96192 18531; formula compositions and percentages are not disclosed. Reed diffuser oil and the water-based Hotel Collection fragrance are assessed for room use and are not assessed or sold for application to skin. SOSA does not describe its products as chemical-free, hypoallergenic or safe for everyone, publishes no longevity or hour figures, and makes no claim to reproduce any hotel, spa, resort or retail brand's proprietary fragrance. SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel, hospitality or fashion group. Prices and availability are subject to change - see the live collection pages.

General context: Fragrance safety standards set limits by product use category, so a composition assessed for diffusion in a room has not thereby been assessed for leave-on skin exposure. Nothing on this page is medical advice; if your skin reacts to a fragrance, stop using it and speak to a dermatologist.
