Founder Diaries · When You Are Tired of Buying It Again
By Sonal Sahani · ISIPCA Versailles 17 min read Updated October 2026
Run this check before you compare a single specification, because for a good number of readers it ends the purchase outright and saves them a long afternoon. Hardware comparisons all run the same way: features, prices, charge times, settings, and then, somewhere near the bottom, a line about refills. That order is wrong. A device you cannot buy your scent for is not a better or worse device, it is a closed door, and the door closes on a catalogue fact that takes thirty seconds to check and no amount of specification can reopen. So here is the check, first, with the answers stated plainly rather than managed - including the two absences in my own range that cost me sales every month.
Quick answers — read this first
What should I check about refill availability before buying reusable car fragrance hardware? Six things, and the first one closes the purchase for some readers. Is your scent in the
waterless refill range at all - there is no oud and no lavender in it, while the 12ml car range carries both. Which tier and size - ₹1,049 per 100 gm and ₹1,849 per 300 gm for the SOSA scents, ₹1,099 and ₹1,899 for the hotel-inspired ones. Whether a hanging refill exists for your scent. Whether a spray refill exists, which it does not. What unit each range is sold in. And whether the thing is in stock.
Is there an oud or lavender refill for a waterless car diffuser? No, and this is the single most important sentence on the page. The waterless refill range carries no oud and no lavender. The 12ml car range carries both -
oud at ₹509 and
lavender at ₹479, each in two formats at the same price, with 15ml refills behind them at ₹449 and ₹429. A reader who wants either of those in the car cannot have it on the device at any price.
Which SOSA car scents have no refill at all? One: Mysore orange blossom at ₹549, which is sold as a spray only, with no hanging format behind it and no refill. And one whole format: there is no published spray refill anywhere in the range, so every spray is a complete-unit purchase. The 15ml refills at ₹399 to ₹449 are hanging refills, covering eight of the nine car scents.
The short answer
Short answer: Six checks, in this order, and the first two decide more purchases than every specification put together. One: is your scent in the waterless range? The SOSA scents are Vetiver, Neelakurinji, Malabar Lemon, Sage and Cedar, Mahogany, Japanese Cherry Blossom, White Jasmine and Tobacco Vanilla, with the hotel-inspired set beside them. Two: is it oud or lavender? Then it is not there, and the 12ml range carries both. Three: which tier and size? ₹1,049 per 100 gm and ₹1,849 per 300 gm for the SOSA scents, ₹1,099 and ₹1,899 for the hotel-inspired ones. Four: does a hanging refill exist in your scent? Eight of nine do, at ₹399 to ₹449; Mysore orange blossom at ₹549 does not. Five: does a spray refill exist? No, nowhere in the range. Six: what unit is each sold in? One a volume, one a weight, and they are never converted.
The pick: if checks one and two come back open,
SOSA Safar at ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios, is a purchase you can consider on its merits, with
refills at ₹1,049 and ₹1,849. If they come back closed, buy the scent you actually want in the range that has it -
oud ₹509,
lavender ₹479, with
15ml refills at ₹449 and ₹429 - and let the hardware go. If you cannot name a scent to check, a
discovery set at ₹699 to ₹899 comes first.
Straight answer
What should I check about refill availability and compatibility before investing in reusable car-fragrance hardware?
Six things, and I am going to put the two that close purchases at the top rather than burying them under the ones that merely inform. Check one: does the scent you actually use exist in the device's refill range at all? Not something like it. It. The waterless refill range that feeds SOSA Safar carries fifteen scents across two tiers. The SOSA scents are Vetiver, Neelakurinji, Malabar Lemon, Sage and Cedar, Mahogany, Japanese Cherry Blossom, White Jasmine and Tobacco Vanilla, at ₹1,049 per 100 gm and ₹1,849 per 300 gm. The hotel-inspired set sits beside them at ₹1,099 and ₹1,899. All of them are in stock. Check two, which is check one for two specific scents: is yours oud or lavender? There is no oud in the waterless range and no lavender in it, and the 12ml car range carries both. Oud is ₹509 as a 12ml unit and ₹449 as a 15ml refill; lavender is ₹479 and ₹429. I am stating that as flatly as I can because it is the fact in this family that decides the most purchases and it is the fact a seller has the least incentive to volunteer. If either is the scent you keep going back to, the hardware conversation is over - not postponed, over - because you would buy a device, run something else on it, and keep buying bottles for the scent you wanted. That is two ongoing costs and a fixed one in exchange for a compromise. Check three: which tier and which size, and what does the size do to the price? Two tiers, as above, and two sizes, 100 gm and 300 gm. The refill page publishes its own figure per millilitre for each size and the larger bottle is the cheaper of the two by that measure, with a stated saving against buying the same volume in small bottles. That is a legitimate within-range comparison and it is the only one available. Check four: does a refill exist for your scent in the format you are leaving behind? This matters because the honest alternative to hardware is usually a refill rather than a rebuy. Eight of the nine car scents have 15ml hanging refills at ₹399 to ₹449 - lemon and jasmine ₹399, sandalwood, lavender and icy mint ₹429, sea breeze, vetiver and oud ₹449. The ninth, Mysore orange blossom at ₹549, has no hanging format and no refill at all. It exists as a spray and nothing else. Check five, and this one is an absence covering an entire format: there is no published spray refill anywhere in the range. None. The 15ml refills are hanging refills. So a reader who sprays has no refill route at all without first changing format, which costs nothing because both formats carry the same price on every scent, and the “50 ML Car Perfume Spray” at ₹1,499 is a larger unit rather than a refill. Same price to buy is not the same price to keep, and that sentence is doing real work here. Check six: what unit is each range sold in, and does anybody's comparison cross between them? The car perfumes are sold by volume, in millilitres. The waterless refills are sold by weight, in grams. Safar ships a 20ml bottle. Those two cannot be put on one per-millilitre footing from the published figures, so if a page hands you a single figure spanning both systems, it has produced the conversion itself and you should treat everything downstream of it accordingly. Run those six in that order and you will find that most of what decides this purchase is settled before any feature is compared. Three of the six can close the question outright. None of them requires arithmetic. All of them take less time than reading one specification table, and they apply equally to whoever is selling - the six questions do not change, only the answers do.
Where the working already lives
Whether to divide the device's cost by a useful ownership period, and how intensity setting and running hours change the economics of a waterless diffuser, are both argued out in full on their own pages, with the working. They are linked below. I am not repeating either here, because this page deliberately stops before the economics start: it is the check you run first, and for a reader whose scent is not in the range the economics never become relevant at all.
The three kinds of availability, and why they are not the same question
Readers treat availability as one question and it is three, with three different consequences. Only the first can close a purchase outright, which is why it belongs at the top of every check and sits near the bottom of most comparison pages.
1
Scent availability - the one that closes purchases
An absent scent is not a compromise to be weighed, it is a door, and two of the nine car scents are behind it
The
waterless range carries fifteen scents and does not carry oud or lavender. The
12ml car range carries oud at ₹509 and
lavender at ₹479, in two formats at the same price, with 15ml refills behind both.
Nothing reconciles those two sentences. A reader who wants oud in the car and buys the device gets a device running something else, plus a continuing bottle habit for the scent they came for. I would rather lose that sale here, on a page I wrote, than lose it in week three to a disappointed message - and I would rather you ran this check on every seller in this category, because every range has absences and most pages present them as curation.
How to run it in thirty seconds: open the refill page, find your scent by name, and write open or closed. Do not accept an adjacent scent as a substitute at this stage; you can decide to compromise later, but decide it knowingly.
2
Format availability - the one that redirects rather than closes
A whole format has no refill, and it is the format most readers are currently in
There is no published spray refill in the range at all. The 15ml refills at ₹399 to ₹449 are hanging refills, covering eight of the nine scents. So a spray habit has no refill route until the format changes - and the format change itself is free, because every 12ml scent is sold as “Spray (Strong scent-throw)” or “Hanging (Mild scent-throw)” at exactly the same price, from
jasmine at ₹449 up to ₹509. This check does not close a purchase, it redirects one, and it is the check that most often reveals a reader has a cheaper option than the one they came for. The one scent with no refillable route in either direction is Mysore orange blossom at ₹549, which has no hanging format at all.
The refill range that does carry the two scents the device cannot. 15ml in eight scents at ₹399 to ₹449 - lemon and jasmine ₹399, sandalwood, lavender and icy mint ₹429, sea breeze, vetiver and oud ₹449 - against ₹449 to ₹509 for rebuying the 12ml unit.
See the 15ml hanging refills →
3
Unit and tier compatibility - the one that protects you from bad arithmetic
Two sizes, two tiers, and two units of measurement that must never be joined up
Within the
waterless range the comparison is clean: ₹1,049 per 100 gm against ₹1,849 per 300 gm for the SOSA scents, ₹1,099 and ₹1,899 for the hotel-inspired ones, and the page publishes its own figure per millilitre for each size with the larger bottle the cheaper by that measure.
Across the two systems it is not clean at all, because the car perfumes are a volume and the waterless refills a weight, and the device ships a 20ml bottle. There is no published bridge between those units and this page builds none. The practical protection is simple: if a comparison hands you one figure covering both systems, it invented a conversion, and you can discount the conclusion without having to find the error.
The sentence to look for on any comparison page: a single per-millilitre figure spanning bottles and a device. It cannot be derived from the published numbers, so wherever you see it, somebody filled in a gap.
The check itself, question by question
Seven rows, in the order I would run them. Three of them can stop the purchase; two redirect it; two simply protect you from a bad comparison. Keep it and use it on anybody's hardware, not only ours - the questions are the same whoever is answering them.
The pre-purchase availability check
Six questions and one addendum, in the order that saves you the most time
| The part |
What it actually is |
Is it published? |
What it means for you |
| 1. Is your scent in the device's refill range? |
The waterless range: Vetiver, Neelakurinji, Malabar Lemon, Sage and Cedar, Mahogany, Japanese Cherry Blossom, White Jasmine and Tobacco Vanilla, plus the hotel-inspired set. |
Yes, published in full with both sizes and both tiers, all in stock. |
If the answer is no, stop. This is the only check that can end the purchase on its own, and no feature or discount downstream reopens it. |
| 2. Is your scent oud or lavender? |
Two of the nine car scents, and the two most frequently named by readers who write to me about car fragrance. |
Yes, as an absence. There is no oud and no lavender waterless refill at all. |
Closed. The 12ml range carries both - oud ₹509, lavender ₹479 - with refills at ₹449 and ₹429. Buy the scent in the range that has it and let the hardware go. |
| 3. Which tier and which size? |
Two tiers and two sizes: ₹1,049 per 100 gm and ₹1,849 per 300 gm for the SOSA scents, ₹1,099 and ₹1,899 for the hotel-inspired ones. |
Yes, including the refill page's own figure per millilitre for each size. |
The larger bottle is the cheaper of the two by that published measure. This is a within-range comparison and the only one the published figures support. |
| 4. Does a hanging refill exist in your scent? |
Eight of the nine car scents: lemon and jasmine ₹399, sandalwood, lavender and icy mint ₹429, sea breeze, vetiver and oud ₹449. |
Yes, all eight in stock. |
This is the alternative to hardware that most readers are never shown. Less money than rebuying the 12ml unit at ₹449 to ₹509 and a larger bottle, with the carrier kept. |
| 5. Does a spray refill exist? |
A refill for the spray format, in any scent. |
No. None is published anywhere in the range. |
A spray habit must change format before it can refill, which costs nothing since both formats are the same price on every scent. The “50 ML Car Perfume Spray” at ₹1,499 is a larger unit, not a refill. |
| 6. What unit is each range sold in? |
The car perfumes by volume in millilitres; the waterless refills by weight in grams; the device ships a 20ml bottle. |
Yes, both units are published. No conversion between them is. |
So no single figure can span the two systems. If a comparison gives you one, it supplied the conversion itself and the conclusion is only as sound as the invention. |
| Addendum: what is not published at all |
The rate at which either system gets through its consumable. |
No, for every format, the 20ml bottle and all three speed settings. |
Which is why this check is about availability rather than cost. Availability is knowable today; the running cost is not, by me or by anyone. |
Three of those seven rows are useful because of what is missing: no oud, no lavender, no spray refill. I have put them in the body of the table rather than in a footnote because a reader who discovers an absence after buying feels cheated, and is right to. Run the check in order and stop at the first closed answer - most readers who should not buy hardware find out in the first two rows, in under a minute, which is the best outcome this page can produce.
Run six checks before any feature comparison. Is your scent in the waterless range - fifteen scents in two tiers. Is it oud or lavender - then no, there is none in that range while the 12ml range carries both at ₹509 and ₹479. Which tier and size - ₹1,049 per 100 gm and ₹1,849 per 300 gm for the SOSA scents. Does a hanging refill exist - for eight of nine, at ₹399 to ₹449. Does a spray refill exist - no, nowhere. And what unit is each sold in - a volume and a weight, never converted. Mysore orange blossom at ₹549 has no hanging format and no refill.
If you have used one scent happily for years and intend to go on doing so, most of this check collapses and only one line of it matters: whether that single scent is available, in the format you want, today. Breadth is a feature for a reader who moves about, and a reader who does not move about is paying attention to a column that will never affect them. So run row one for your scent, skip rows two to five unless they touch it, and make the decision on the things that actually change your week - the three speed settings, the auto shut-off at one, two or three hours, and whether you would rather handle a 20ml bottle than hang a 12ml one. A narrow range is only narrow if you were going to use the width.
— the condition that reverses this page
The line nobody can fill in for you
This page checks what exists and deliberately does not check what anything costs to run, because that figure is not published. SOSA publishes no consumption rate for a 12ml unit, the hanging format, the 20ml bottle supplied with the device or any of the three speed settings, and nobody else publishes one for your cabin. So availability is the part of this decision you can settle completely and today, and the running cost is the part you can only measure for yourself: mark the level, write the date beside the mark, note the setting, and look again in a fortnight.
What I would buy at each outcome of the check
Four rows, one per outcome. The check decides which row you are in before any price is read, which is the opposite of how this category is usually sold and the right way round for the reader.
The check turned into four outcomes
Each row is selected by where the six questions stopped, not by what you were willing to spend

Row one is the one I most want read, because it is the row where my own range fails a reader and the honest answer is a smaller sale. If oud or lavender is your scent, no feature on the device page is relevant to you, and the sooner you know that the less of your evening this takes.
The waterless refill range is here if you want to run row one on your own scent right now.
Sonal’s recommendation
Run the six questions before you read a single specification
Two of the nine scents we sell for a car cannot be run on the device we sell for a car. I would rather that sentence appeared in the middle of my own page than in somebody's complaint, and running the check costs you a minute and me a few orders.

| Question one, and it takes thirty seconds |
Is your scent in the waterless refill range? Fifteen scents, two tiers, all in stock. Find it by name rather than by family. |
| Question two, which is question one for two scents |
Is it oud or lavender? Then it is not there, and the 12ml range has both at ₹509 and ₹479 with refills at ₹449 and ₹429. |
| Questions three to six, which inform rather than close |
Tier and size, whether a hanging refill exists for your scent, whether a spray refill exists at all, and what unit each range uses. |
| What to buy if the check closes |
The scent you actually wanted, in the range that carries it. A smaller purchase and a happier one. |
| What to buy if the check passes |
SOSA Safar at ₹3,999, or ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios, with refills at ₹1,049 per 100 gm and ₹1,849 per 300 gm - bought knowing exactly what the range does and does not hold. |
I lead with the hanging refill in the button below rather than the device because, for the majority of readers who run this check honestly, the refill is what they end up buying - either because question two closed the door or because question four showed them a cheaper version of what they already have. That is not a sales strategy, it is just what the catalogue produces when you read it in the right order. If your check passes all six,
SOSA Safar is a genuinely good purchase and I will say so without hedging; you will have bought it knowing which two scents it cannot run, which is the only way I want anybody buying it.
The refill range is here to check first.
Where did your check stop? That decides this, not the specification.
Two readers run the same six questions and get two opposite answers. Pick the one that matches yours.
See a 12ml car perfume - oud ₹509
“It stopped at question two.” Your scent is oud or lavender, and neither exists in the waterless refill range while the 12ml range carries both in two formats at the same price, with refills behind them. Buy the fragrance you wanted. The hardware cannot carry it and no figure changes that.
See SOSA Safar - ₹3,999
“It passed all six.” Your scent is in the range, you know the tier and the size, and you understand that the two systems are sold in different units and should not be bridged. Now the three speed settings and the auto shut-off are worth comparing on their merits - which is where a hardware comparison should have started.
A note from Sonal
This is the page I would most like a reader to find before any other in this family, and it is the one that costs me the most money. Two of the nine scents we make for a car cannot be run on the device we make for a car, and they are not obscure ones - oud is frequently the first thing an Indian reader names, and lavender is the first thing a reader asking for something soft names.
The temptation in a catalogue is to let an absence sit quietly. Nobody is lying; the scent simply is not listed, and a reader who does not look will not find out until the second month. I have decided that is not good enough, so the absence goes in the lede, the table and the recommendation on every page in this family where it is relevant, and I would encourage you to be equally rude to every other seller in this category. Ask them which scents their refill range does not carry. The answer, and how readily it comes, tells you a lot.
Run the six questions and stop at the first closed answer. If that happens at question two, buy the oud or the lavender and a refill behind it, and spend your evening on something more interesting than specification tables. If all six pass, the composite that ranks the six features is the page I would read next, or send me your scent and I will run the check myself.
Frequently asked questions
What should I check about refills before buying a car fragrance device?
Six things, in order. Whether your scent exists in the device's refill range at all. Whether it is one of the scents that range does not carry. Which tier and size you would be buying. Whether a refill exists for your scent in the format you are leaving. Whether a refill exists for that format at all. And what unit each range is sold in, because a comparison that crosses units has invented a conversion. The first two can close the purchase outright.
Can I get oud or lavender for a SOSA waterless diffuser?
No. The waterless refill range carries fifteen scents and neither oud nor lavender is among them. Both exist in the 12ml car range, oud at ₹509 and lavender at ₹479, each sold in two formats at the same price, and both have 15ml hanging refills behind them at ₹449 and ₹429 respectively. A reader who wants either of those in the car should buy the bottles rather than the hardware.
Which car scent has no refill in any format?
Mysore orange blossom at ₹549. It is sold as a spray only, with no hanging format behind it and therefore no 15ml refill, so there is no refillable route to that scent in either direction. The other eight car scents all have hanging refills at ₹399 to ₹449 - lemon and jasmine ₹399, sandalwood, lavender and icy mint ₹429, and sea breeze, vetiver and oud ₹449.
Why can I not compare the two refill ranges on one price measure?
Because they are sold in different units and no conversion between them is published. The car perfumes are sold by volume in millilitres and the waterless refills by weight in grams, and the device ships a 20ml bottle. Within the waterless range the two sizes can be compared and the larger bottle is the cheaper by the figure that page publishes. Across the two systems, any single figure has been produced by whoever is showing it to you.
How many waterless refill scents and sizes are there?
Fifteen scents across two tiers and two sizes. The SOSA scents - Vetiver, Neelakurinji, Malabar Lemon, Sage and Cedar, Mahogany, Japanese Cherry Blossom, White Jasmine and Tobacco Vanilla - are ₹1,049 per 100 gm and ₹1,849 per 300 gm. The hotel-inspired set is ₹1,099 and ₹1,899. All are in stock, and SOSA Safar itself is ₹3,999 for the SOSA-naturals trios and ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired ones.
Ask any seller in this category which scents their refill range does not carry. The answer matters, and how quickly it arrives matters more.

Editorial standards & sources
About this guide: Written by Sonal Sahani, ISIPCA Versailles-trained founder and perfumer at SOSA Home & Body. The reasoning here - occupied cabin hours, evaporation while parked, airflow, exposure time and olfactory adaptation - applies to any brand; the products and prices are SOSA’s. Where SOSA publishes no figure, this guide says so and gives a way to measure it in your own vehicle rather than quoting a number.
Facts verified 7 October 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: SOSA car perfume is sold as one 12ml product in two formats at the SAME price, listed on the product page as "Spray (Strong scent-throw)" or "Hanging (Mild scent-throw)", with a "50 ML Car Perfume Spray" at ₹1,499. The nine scents are Jasmine ₹449, Lavender ₹479, Sandalwood ₹479, Icy Mint ₹489, Lemon ₹499, Vetiver khus ₹509, Sea Breeze ₹509, Oud ₹509 and Mysore Orange Blossom ₹549, the last of which is spray only.
Car Hanging Freshener Refills are 15ml at ₹399 to ₹449 in eight scents - a larger bottle than the 12ml unit they refill. The
SOSA Safar waterless car and travel diffuser is ₹3,999 for the SOSA scent trios and ₹4,499 for the hotel-inspired trios, with three speed settings, an auto shut-off timer at one, two or three hours, up to ten hours continuous or thirty hours intermittent per charge, a 2000 mAh battery, Type-C charging, a body of about 9 cm that fits a cup-holder, and a 20ml bottle in the box; it diffuses pure undiluted oil cold, with no water and no heat, and the product page states "Aroma only - does not humidify", which is not a claim that it dries a cabin or corrects damp. SOSA publishes NO coverage figure for Safar - no square feet, no cubic metres and no seat count - so no page here sizes it to a vehicle.
Waterless Nebuliser Refills are shared with the SOSA Vaayu at ₹1,049 per 100 gm and ₹1,849 per 300 gm for the SOSA scents, and ₹1,099 and ₹1,899 for the hotel-inspired scents; that range contains no oud and no lavender, while the 12ml range contains both. The car perfumes are sold by volume and the waterless refills by weight, so a cost per millilitre across the two systems is not available from the published figures and none is given here. SOSA publishes no duration figure for a 12ml unit, a 20ml Safar bottle or any speed setting. No SOSA product removes an odour at its source: food, damp and smoke in a cabin are cleaning and ventilation problems, and fragrance sits on top of whatever is already there. SOSA makes no claim about mood, alertness, concentration, wellbeing or driving, and no claim about air quality or purification. After-sales terms, bulk arrangements and delivery commitments are confirmed with SOSA directly; free shipping above ₹499 is the only logistics fact stated. The hotel-inspired scent names are SOSA’s own interpretations and catalogue variant names; SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel or brand named for reference.
