Five stores, one brand, and a reasonable instinct to make the air identical in all of them. The instinct is half right. One thing genuinely should be the same in all five and one thing should not be, and most groups get the two exactly the wrong way round.
Quick answers — read this first
Should all five of our premium footwear stores use the same signature fragrance? Yes - the same register in all five. That is the part a customer can recognise across cities, and it is the only part of scenting that behaves like a brand asset. What should not be identical is the setting. Your five stores have five different volumes, ceiling heights, door rhythms and air-conditioning systems, so an intensity that reads correctly in one store will read as heavy in the second and as nothing at all in the third. Fix the register centrally and let each store find its own level inside a band you set.
Should every location use the same machine and the same intensity? No. Hardware follows floor area and layout, not the wish for a tidy purchase order. A 400 sq ft location honestly belongs on reeds. A connected floor of roughly 1,500 sq ft and up is where a machine earns its place. A store with two genuinely separate volumes needs a unit for the second volume, never a second unit in the same room, because two units in one connected space make competing gradients rather than combined coverage. Intensity is judged on site, at that store's own busiest hour, by somebody standing in the room.
How do we keep five stores consistent without checking them constantly? Write it down and give it an owner. A one-page specification naming the register, the placement rule, the intensity band, the refill rhythm and the responsible person does more for consistency than goodwill ever will. Add two lines to whatever store-visit form your area manager already carries. Settings on the Vaayu are changed locally, over Bluetooth, by someone with the app standing inside the store - so consistency across five stores is a process you run rather than a screen you watch, and it is better to design for that than to pretend otherwise.
The short answer
Short answer: Yes to one register in all five stores, and no to identical settings. The register is the brand asset a customer recognises from city to city. A setting is an instruction to one specific room, and your five rooms differ in volume, ceiling height, door traffic and air conditioning. Standardise the register, the placement rule and an intensity band, then let each store find its own number inside that band.
The pick: For leather and dark-wood stores the register is Mountain Breeze (₹849), carried on reeds in the small locations and on a SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) in any store with roughly 1,500 sq ft or more of connected floor.
Next step: Send the floor area and layout of all five stores and we will write you one register and five settings - ask for a store scenting plan.
Chains go wrong by standardising the setting and improvising the register. Do it the other way round and five stores read as one brand without pretending to be one room.
Should five premium footwear stores share one signature, and what should differ between them?
Yes to the register, no to the settings - and that single split answers most of what people mean when they ask this. Across five premium stores, the only thing a customer can actually recognise is the register: the family of notes, its dryness or sweetness, its weight in the room. If four of your stores read as dry woods and the fifth reads as citrus because a manager liked it, you do not have a chain signature; you have five shops sharing a logo. So fix the register centrally, write it down, and treat it as a brand asset that nobody changes at store level. In a leather and dark-wood group that register is Himalayan pine, sage and cedar, which sits underneath leather and extends it. In a sneaker group it is Malabar lemon, peppermint and eucalyptus, the honest counterweight to rubber. What must not be centralised is the setting, because a setting is not a smell - it is an instruction addressed to one specific room, and your five rooms are not the same. They differ in floor area, in ceiling height, in how often the door opens, in whether the air conditioning is yours or the mall's, in stock density and in how many staff breathe it for nine hours. The same intensity number in all five gives you five different results, which is the opposite of consistency. Hardware follows the same logic. A 400 sq ft location is honestly a reed, and buying five machines because you have five stores is the commonest way to overspend in this category. A connected floor of roughly 1,500 sq ft and up is where a SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999 earns its place, and a store with a genuine second volume - a separate floor, a wing on its own air conditioning - takes a unit for that volume rather than a second unit in the same room. Then set a band rather than a number: noticed on arrival, settled within a minute, never the first thing a customer mentions, judged at six on a Saturday with the floor full. And if the staff in any store say it is too much, it is too much, whatever the document says. One last thing to be plain about: this is a brand and interior decision, and we make no claim that scent affects sales, conversion, footfall, browsing time, basket size or what anyone buys. Ask for a store scenting plan and send the floor areas of all five.
Fix the register centrally, let the setting be local. Five stores, one recognisable smell, five honest levels, and one person whose name is on the document.
In the larger of your five stores - roughly 1,500 sq ft and up of connected floor - the unit is one SOSA Vaayu: waterless, under 38dB, rated to 1000m³, with adjustable intensity, trading-hour timers and a key-lock so a set level cannot drift. ₹11,999.
Worth saying before the cards, because groups buy in batches: five identical machines for five different stores is the most common way to overspend here. Any location under about 300 sq ft is honestly a reed and a machine would be over-specified. Between 300 and 750 sq ft, reeds by zone or one Sukoon near the entrance. The Vaayu earns its place from roughly 1,500 sq ft of connected retail floor, and not before.
Himalayan pine, sage and cedar - the dry-wood register that sits under leather rather than competing with it. Passive, so in your smaller locations it is also the whole answer: no power, no noise, no settings to drift, and nothing for a busy manager to get wrong.
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, roughly 2,000-3,000 sq ft. Adjustable intensity, timers matched to that store's trading hours, key-lock so the level cannot drift between visits, under 38dB. Waterless matters in footwear: no humidity added near leather, boxes and stock.
500ml ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and running 16-18 hours on low, supplied with three 15ml fragrances. Being ultrasonic it adds a little humidity, so keep it away from stock and boxes and treat it as an entrance-zone answer.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank lasting up to 75 days, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mount, auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Made in India.
Three decisions, and getting them in this order matters more than any one of them.
1
First, decide what is genuinely central
The register is the brand asset. Almost everything else is local
Sit down and separate the things that travel between cities from the things that cannot. Travels: the register, the placement rule, the intensity band, the refill rhythm, and the fact that staff can switch it off in seconds. Does not travel: the number on the dial, the run hours, the mounting position, and often the hardware itself. A register is recognisable - a customer walking from your Pune store into your Hyderabad store meets the same family of notes and reads it as the same brand. A setting is not recognisable to anyone; it is an instruction addressed to one room's volume, height and door traffic. Groups that standardise the number and leave the register to local taste end up with five smells and one dial position, which is precisely backwards. Write the register down once, name it, and make changing it a head-office decision rather than a store-manager preference.
Tip: if a line in your document would be meaningless to a customer, it is an operations line, not a brand line - keep the two apart on the page.
Mountain Breeze - pine, sage and cedar - is the register a leather group can carry in all five stores, from ₹849.
Hardware follows floor area, not the wish for a tidy purchase order
Buying five of anything because you have five stores is the classic chain mistake. Walk each floor with a tape and ask one question: how much connected air is there. Under about 300 sq ft, a reed is the honest answer and a machine would be over-specified - say so in the document so a manager does not lobby for one. Between 300 and 750 sq ft, reeds placed by zone or one Sukoon near the entrance. From roughly 1,500 sq ft of connected retail floor, a Vaayu earns its place, rated to 1000m³ or about 2,000-3,000 sq ft. Above 3,000 sq ft, or where a store has a genuine second volume such as a separate upper floor, plan for that second volume specifically. A second unit belongs to a second volume of air, never to a second corner of the same room, because two units in one connected space make competing gradients rather than better coverage.
Tip: measure connected volume, not leasable area - a mezzanine on its own air conditioning is a different room even when the lease calls it one shop.
SOSA Vaayu, ₹11,999, for any location with roughly 1,500 sq ft or more of connected floor.
Give each store a range and a named owner, not a setting to copy
The useful instruction is a band with a test attached, not a digit. Write it like this: the scent should be noticed on arrival, settled within a minute, and never the first thing a customer mentions - judged at six on a Saturday with the floor full and the door constantly opening, not at opening on a quiet Tuesday. Give each store a permitted range on the dial and let the manager find their number inside it. Then add the part most groups forget: your staff breathe this for nine hours a day, five or six days a week, which is far more than any customer ever will, and if the staff say it is too much, it is too much regardless of what the band says. Record the number each store lands on, so the next visit is a check rather than a fresh argument. Settings are changed locally, over Bluetooth, by somebody standing in the store - plan the visit, not the dashboard.
In a small location the whole question disappears - a Sukoon at ₹1,899 or a reed has far less to drift.
A chain signature is a register, not a setting. Customers recognise the smell; nobody has ever recognised an intensity dial.
Standardise what travels between cities. Leave each room the part that cannot travel with it.
The register that travels: Mountain Breeze - Himalayan pine, sage and cedar - reads as the same brand in all five stores while the settings differ. From ₹849.
If your five stores share a dial setting but not a register, you have standardised the one thing a customer will never notice and improvised the one thing they will.

Why the settings vary
The same smell in five cities, five different rooms carrying it
One register for the group, and hardware chosen store by store on connected floor area rather than on how many stores you happen to own. Reeds for the small locations, a Sukoon for an entrance zone, a Vaayu for a genuinely large floor. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Five stores rarely justify five machines and we would rather say so than sell four of them in. Fragrance here is a brand and interior decision, and we make no claim that it affects sales, conversion, footfall, browsing time, basket size or what anybody buys. It works alongside ventilation, stock rotation and cleaning, never instead of them, and is never used to mask a smell that has a source. Staff must be able to switch it off in seconds, and if staff say it is too much, it is too much. Ask for a store scenting plan and send the floor areas of all five.

A note from Sonal
Multi-store owners usually arrive at this question having already decided the answer is yes, and wanting me to confirm that five identical machines on five identical settings is the professional way to do it. It is not. The register is the thing your customer carries between your stores, and it should be identical. The setting is a private conversation between a machine and one room, and it has no business being copied across cities.
What I actually ask for is the floor area of each of the five, because that decides more than anything else on the call. Two of them are usually small enough that a Mountain Breeze reed at ₹849 is the honest answer and a machine would be over-specified. One or two are large enough that a Vaayu at ₹11,999 does real work. Buying five of anything because you own five shops is how groups overspend here.
The limits, plainly. Ambient fragrance is a brand and interior decision, and we make no claim that it increases sales, footfall, browsing time or influences what anyone buys. It never masks a smell that has a source - the stockroom, the boxes and the trying area come first. Your staff breathe it longest, so their judgement outranks mine and outranks the document. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
Should all five of our stores use the same signature fragrance?
Yes - the same register in all five. That is the part a customer recognises from city to city, and it is the only part of scenting that behaves like a brand asset. What should not be identical is the setting, because your five stores differ in volume, ceiling height, door traffic and air conditioning, so one number gives five different results.
Should we buy the same machine for every store?
No. Hardware follows connected floor area, not the number of stores you own. Under about 300 sq ft a reed is the honest answer and a machine would be over-specified. Between 300 and 750 sq ft, reeds by zone or a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 near the entrance. A Vaayu at Rs 11,999 earns its place from roughly 1,500 sq ft of connected retail floor.
How do we stop each store drifting to its own intensity?
Give them a band rather than a number, with a test attached: noticed on arrival, settled within a minute, never the first thing a customer mentions, judged at six on a Saturday with the floor full. Record the level each store lands on, put a key-lock on the unit where there is one, and add two lines to the store-visit form your area manager already carries.
Can we change the settings for all five stores from head office?
No, and it is better to plan around that than to hope otherwise. The Vaayu is controlled over Bluetooth by its app, which means somebody has to be standing inside that store to change anything. There is no central dashboard and no remote fleet control. Consistency across five stores is therefore a written specification, a fixed visit rhythm and one named owner.
Does a group signature scent do anything for the business?
It makes five shops read as one brand at the level of the air, which is an interior and identity decision. We make no claim that it affects sales, footfall, browsing time, basket size or what anyone buys, and no claim that it removes or neutralises any odour. It adds scent, and that is all it does.
