This is the practical guide: what the machine is, where it should stand, how to schedule it, what a year of running it costs, and what it will not do. If you have read the other pieces in this set and decided the air is the layer missing from your home, this is the page that tells you how to set it up properly.
Quick answers — read this first
What is the SOSA Vaayu and what does it do? The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser for homes. It breaks pure fragrance oil into a dry micro-mist and releases it into moving air, with no water, no heat, no dampness and no residue. It is rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, so it scents a whole flat or floor from one point. It holds 400ml lasting up to about 75 days, runs under 38dB on 5W, has Bluetooth app control with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers and adjustable intensity, and can stand freestanding, be wall mounted or be mounted to HVAC. It has auto-stop and a key-lock, and is CE, RoHS and SGS certified.

Where should I place a scent machine in a home? Where the air already moves. In a flat, the corridor the bedrooms open off usually beats the living room, because the corridor feeds everything. Beside the return air of an air-conditioner is better still, since the system distributes for you. Stand it at roughly waist height with the outlet clear of walls and curtains, and avoid a closed cabinet or a spot directly under an open window, where the fragrance leaves before it travels.

How much does a SOSA Vaayu cost to run? Very little. It draws 5W, which is roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month on a ten-hour daily schedule, and a 400ml tank lasts up to about 75 days depending on intensity and run hours, so a whole home is about five fills a year. There is no water, no filters and no other consumables.
The short answer
Short answer: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with a 400ml tank lasting up to about 75 days, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB and 5W. Place it on the air path, run it at a low intensity for long hours, and expect around five fills a year.
The pick: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) for a flat or a single floor, placed in the corridor or beside the air-conditioning return, on a low intensity daily schedule.
Next step: send your floor plan and the hours you are usually home and we will suggest a position and a schedule - ask us what fits your home.

Straight answer
How do I set up a SOSA Vaayu in a home?
Start with the machine itself. The SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser: it atomises pure fragrance oil into a dry micro-mist and releases it into the air, with no water, no heat, no dampness and no residue, which is why it suits homes with wood, textiles, art and books. It is rated to 1000m³, which the product page describes as about 2,000-3,000 sq ft, so it is a whole-home machine and not a room device. It measures 165 x 80.5 x 215mm, weighs 0.9kg, and runs on DC 12V/1A at 5W, under 38dB. The 400ml tank lasts up to about 75 days depending on intensity and run hours. Control is by Bluetooth app or the buttons on the unit, with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers and adjustable intensity, plus auto-stop and a key-lock. It is CE, RoHS and SGS certified and made in India. Placement is the decision that matters most, and it is not where you want the smell, it is where the air is moving. In a two or three bedroom flat, the corridor the rooms open off usually outperforms the living room, because that corridor feeds everything. If you have air-conditioning, standing or mounting it near the return air is better still, because the system does the distribution. Waist height or above, outlet clear of curtains and walls, never inside a closed cabinet, and not directly under an open window where the fragrance leaves before it travels. Scheduling: run low and long. A ten-hour daily schedule at a low intensity produces the constant background you want; short bursts at high intensity produce an event. If you want the arrival effect, have it start about 45 minutes before people are usually home rather than as they walk in. Running cost: about 1.5 units of electricity a month on that schedule, plus roughly five 400ml fills a year for a whole home. And what it will not do, which belongs on a product page as much as anywhere else: it is not an air purifier, it makes no health claim, and it will not cover cooking smells, damp, pet odour, a musty wardrobe or fresh paint. Those need ventilation, cleaning or time. Scent over them gives you both at once.
Waterless, 1000m³ (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml lasting up to 75 days, under 38dB, 5W, app timers. Place it on the air path, run it low and long, refill about five times a year.
SOSA Vaayu - waterless cold-air nebuliser, 1000m³ (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank lasting up to 75 days, Bluetooth app with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounted, auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS certified, made in India.

Placement, schedule and running cost

Three decisions decide whether a scent machine works in a home: where it stands, how it is scheduled, and how much you run it. Get those right and the machine disappears into the house.

1
Placement
Put it where the air moves, not where you want the smell
This is the most common mistake and the easiest to fix. Fragrance travels on air, so a machine in the middle of a still room does far less than the same machine on a moving air path. In a flat, the corridor that the bedrooms and bathrooms open off is usually the best position, because everything is downstream of it. If you have air-conditioning, near the return air is better again, since the system will distribute for you, and the Vaayu can be mounted to HVAC directly. Stand it at waist height or above, keep the outlet clear of curtains, walls and shelves, avoid closed cabinets, and do not put it directly under a window you keep open.
Tip: corridor beats living room. Return-air path beats corridor.

2
Schedule
Low intensity, long hours, starting before you arrive
Use the app to set an intensity once and then leave it alone. For most homes the lowest intensity that reaches the far end of the space is correct, running on an eight to ten hour daily schedule rather than in short bursts. If the point is the arrival, start it about 45 minutes before people usually come home so the fragrance has diffused and settled instead of announcing itself. On days with guests, do not turn it up: a strong setting is what makes a home smell staged. The 1h, 4h, 8h and 24h timers cover every domestic pattern, and the key-lock stops the settings being changed by accident.
SOSA Vaayu

3
Refills and running cost
About five fills a year, and roughly 1.5 units of electricity a month
The 400ml tank lasts up to about 75 days depending on the intensity you choose and how many hours a day it runs, so a home on a low daily schedule is roughly five fills across a year. Power draw is 5W, which on a ten-hour daily schedule is about 1.5 units of electricity a month. There is nothing else to buy: no water, no wicks, no filters, no cartridges. Keep to one fragrance across the year rather than switching, both because consistency is the point and because it keeps the tank simple.
Tip: one fragrance, all year. Changing scents every month is what stops a home ever having a signature.

The SOSA principle
A scent machine that is visible, audible or noticeable has been set up wrong. The whole ambition is a house that smells consistent and a device nobody in it ever thinks about.
Placement on the air path and the lowest intensity that reaches the far corner. That is nearly the whole method.
SOSA Vaayu
The machine itself: SOSA Vaayu, waterless cold-air nebuliser, 1000m³ (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml up to 75 days, under 38dB, 5W. ₹11,999.

Setting it up for your size of home

Here is the setup by size and shape of home. In every case it is one machine, and the variable is placement and intensity, not quantity.

The SOSA plan
Your home, and how to set it up
Your home How to set up one Vaayu
SOSA VaayuA studio or 1BHK, up to about 700 sq ft
One machine in the hallway or on a living-room console at the lowest intensity, on an eight-hour daily timer. In a small space, less is genuinely more. View →
SOSA VaayuA 2BHK or 3BHK flat, about 1,000-1,800 sq ft
One machine in the corridor the bedrooms open off, low intensity, eight to ten hours daily. The corridor feeds every room, so this beats the living room. View →
SOSA VaayuA large flat or a full floor, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft
One machine beside the air-conditioning return or wall mounted on the main air path, low to mid intensity, ten hours daily. Let the system distribute it. View →
SOSA VaayuA duplex or split level
Place it on the level you use most, near the stairwell so the air movement between floors carries it. Scent rises, so the lower level is usually the better position. View →

On fragrance choice, the Vaayu takes pure fragrance oil in its own 400ml tank, and the sensible approach for a home is one restrained profile kept for the year - white tea, light woods, soft citrus, a dry musk - rather than rotating scents, since rotation is what prevents a home from ever becoming recognisable. If you arrived here without reading the context, the pillar piece is how to make your home feel more expensive, the honest answer on what scent can and cannot do is here, and the case for why the layer gets skipped is here.

SOSA Vaayu

The best compliment a scent machine can get is that nobody in the house knows where the smell comes from, and nobody has thought about it in months.

Two clarifications worth having in writing. The Vaayu takes pure fragrance oil in its own 400ml tank; it is not a water-based system and nothing is diluted. And the limits: it is not an air purifier, it makes no health claim, and it works alongside ventilation and cleaning rather than instead of them. It will not cover cooking smells, damp, pet odour, a musty wardrobe or fresh paint and new-furniture off-gassing, all of which need airflow, cleaning or time. A note from Sonal

I designed the Vaayu around one domestic problem: every good way of scenting a home needed a person. Candles need lighting, sprays need remembering, reeds fade without announcing it. So the brief was a machine that holds one fragrance at one level across a whole flat, quietly enough to sit outside a bedroom, and cheaply enough to run that nobody switches it off to save electricity.

Waterless was not a marketing decision, it was a domestic one. Homes are full of things that do not want extra moisture - veneer, paper, textiles, art, leather - and an ultrasonic diffuser puts water into the air by design. The Vaayu uses no water and no heat, so there is no dampness and no residue on a console or a shelf. The rest of the numbers follow from the same idea: under 38dB so it can live in a corridor, 5W so it costs almost nothing to leave on, 400ml so you refill it about five times a year, and app timers so the decision is made once.

What it does not do, stated as plainly as the specification. It is not an air purifier and makes no health claim. It will not cover cooking smells, damp, pet odour, a musty wardrobe, fresh paint or new-furniture off-gassing; those need ventilation, cleaning or time, and fragrance laid over them gives you both at once. It works alongside a clean, aired home, never instead of one. The hotel-inspired fragrances are our own interpretations and SOSA is independent and not affiliated with any hotel. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

Frequently asked questions

What is the SOSA Vaayu?
A waterless cold-air nebulising diffuser for homes, priced at Rs 11,999. It atomises pure fragrance oil into a dry micro-mist with no water and no heat, so it adds no dampness and leaves no residue. It is rated to 1000 cubic metres, about 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft, holds a 400ml refillable tank lasting up to about 75 days, runs under 38dB on 5W, and is controlled by a Bluetooth app or onboard buttons with 1, 4, 8 and 24 hour timers and adjustable intensity. It is CE, RoHS and SGS certified and made in India.
Where should I put it in my home?
Where air already moves. In most flats that is the corridor the bedrooms open off rather than the living room, because everything is downstream of the corridor. If you have air-conditioning, near the return air is better still, and the unit can be mounted to HVAC directly. Keep it at waist height or above with the outlet clear of curtains and walls, and avoid closed cabinets or a spot under an open window.
How long does a 400ml tank last?
Up to about 75 days, depending on the intensity you set and how many hours a day it runs. A home on a low intensity with an eight to ten hour daily schedule is roughly five fills a year. There are no other consumables: no water, no wicks, no filters and no cartridges.
Is it noisy, and is it safe around children?
It runs under 38dB, which is quieter than most fridges, so it can sit in a corridor outside bedrooms. It has an auto-stop and a key-lock, which prevents the settings being changed by accident, and it is CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Place it out of easy reach as you would any small appliance, and keep fragrance oil stored closed and away from children.
What will the Vaayu not do?
It is not an air purifier and makes no health claim, and it will not cover cooking smells, damp, pet odour, a musty wardrobe, fresh paint or new-furniture off-gassing. Those need extraction, ventilation, cleaning or time. Fragrance is additive, so scenting over a smell with a source gives you both at once. It works alongside a clean, aired home rather than instead of one.
