This is the sharpest question anyone asks me about kitchen studios, because the two models it offers are genuinely different and both are respectable. The trouble is that most people borrow the wrong half of the one they choose.
Quick answers — read this first
Should a kitchen studio smell like a luxury home or a luxury hotel? Like a home, and run with a hotel's discipline. Those are two different things and the split is the answer. The register - what the room actually smells of - should come from a well-kept house: clean air, timber, stone, laundry, a room that had its windows open. The process - one profile, one level, the same hours, held for years, nobody adjusting it - is pure hospitality, and it is the part worth stealing outright.
Why does the hotel register fail in a studio? Because of how long people stay. A hotel lobby fragrance is composed and set to be noticed in the half minute between the door and the lift, by someone walking through with luggage. Your customer sits at a table for sixty to ninety minutes choosing finishes, and exposure compounds the whole time. A register built to be noticed on arrival becomes something to endure by the end of an appointment, which is the commonest over-scenting mistake in this vertical.
What do I actually buy, and what does it cost? The home register, dry and material-led, never anything edible, set for the ninetieth minute. Under about 750 sq ft, one SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899, and a Vaayu would be the wrong buy at that size. From roughly 1,500 sq ft, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, whose timers and key-lock are the discipline half of the answer.
The short answer
Short answer: like a home, run with a hotel's discipline. The register comes from a well-kept house - clean air, timber, stone, laundry - because your customer sits for ninety minutes, while a hotel lobby register is built to be noticed in a thirty-second transit. The consistency, the fixed level and the fixed hours are what you borrow from hospitality.
The pick: the home register held to a hotel's process: one SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) on fixed timers with the intensity key-locked, or one SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) where the studio is a single room.
Next step: tell us how long a typical appointment runs and whether the studio is one room or several, and we will tell you the register and the starting level - Ask for a retail scenting plan.
Both models have something worth taking and most studios take the wrong half of one of them. Borrow the hotel's process and the home's smell, and the two halves stop contradicting each other.

Should a premium modular kitchen studio smell like a luxury home or a luxury hotel?
Like a home - and run like a hotel. That split is the whole answer, and it matters because most studios borrow the wrong half of whichever model they pick. Take the register from a home. The room a good kitchen studio is trying to evoke is a well-kept house on an ordinary weekday afternoon: clean air, timber, stone, laundry, a room where the windows were open this morning. Dry woods, something green or herbal, a dry tea, clean mineral. And - because homes contain kitchens and the mind jumps straight there - nothing edible, ever. A home smells of cooking for about an hour in fourteen; the feeling you are chasing belongs to the other thirteen, and a studio selling ₹5-10 lakh cabinetry that smells of vanilla or baking reads as a bakery rather than as an interiors brand. Now, why not the hotel register, which is the instinct almost everybody arrives with? Because of arithmetic that is specific to your category. A hotel lobby fragrance is composed and set for a transit - the thirty seconds between a revolving door and a lift, experienced by someone with luggage who will spend most of their stay upstairs where the air is quite different. It is built to be noticed, briefly, and the level is chosen accordingly. Your customer does not transit. They sit at a table with a designer for sixty to ninety minutes deciding on a shutter finish, and exposure compounds every minute of it. A register designed to be noticed on arrival turns into something to be endured by minute ninety, and that single mismatch is behind most of the over-scented showrooms I have walked into. So take the register home and take the process from hospitality, where it is genuinely excellent. What hotels do properly is not the smell, it is the discipline: one profile, one level, the same zones, the same hours, every day, for years, with nobody on the floor free to adjust it because they cannot smell it any more. Copy that exactly. Set the intensity once, judged from the consultation seat at the ninetieth minute rather than from the door, ask the designers who breathe it nine hours a day and treat a yes-but as a no, then key-lock it and write the number down. On hardware, under about 750 sq ft the honest buy is one SOSA Sukoon at ₹1,899 and a Vaayu would be the wrong machine at that size. From roughly 1,500 sq ft, one SOSA Vaayu at ₹11,999, whose 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity and key-lock are precisely the hospitality half of this answer in hardware form. It is waterless, so it adds no moisture to the room and leaves no residue on surfaces - a fact about the machine rather than a claim about your finishes, which is a question for whoever manufactured them. Two more things, plainly. No one can promise you that either model moves footfall, enquiries, order value or a customer's decision, and a supplier offering you a figure is selling. And if the studio still smells of its own fit-out, neither model applies yet: ventilate, wait, trade unscented. Ask for a retail scenting plan and tell us how long your appointments run.
A home, run with a hotel's discipline. The register comes from a well-kept house; the consistency, the fixed level and the fixed hours come from hospitality. Lobby scents are set for thirty seconds and your customer has ninety minutes. ₹1,899 under 750 sq ft, ₹11,999 from about 1,500.
The discipline half of the answer is hardware: one SOSA Vaayu - 1h/4h/8h/24h app timers, adjustable intensity, key-lock, waterless, rated to 1000m³. ₹11,999. Under 750 sq ft, the same discipline on a Sukoon at ₹1,899 and a card on the wall.
The register costs almost nothing to decide; the discipline is what you are actually buying hardware for. The images link to the product pages so you can check the specifications yourself.
Waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, about 2,000-3,000 sq ft. 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app with 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, auto-stop and key-lock - the timers and the lock being the part of hospitality practice worth copying.
Ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft, with three 15ml fragrances included. A single-room studio can hold a hotel's discipline on this perfectly well; a Vaayu here is rated for several times the volume you actually have.
1000m³ coverage (about 2,000-3,000 sq ft), 400ml tank running 90+ days a fill, Bluetooth app and 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, adjustable intensity, under 38dB, 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mount, auto-stop and key-lock. CE, RoHS and SGS certified. Made in India. Cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml and further supply should be confirmed with SOSA.
Three decisions, and each one belongs clearly to one model or the other. Confusing which is which is how a studio ends up smelling like a lobby and behaving like a house.
1
Take the register from the house
The room you are evoking is a Tuesday afternoon, not a check-in
Think about walking into a home you admire, mid-afternoon, nobody cooking. It smells of clean air, of timber and stone, of laundry, of a room aired that morning. That is the register: dry woods for a timber floor, the brightest dry end run low in a white and grey room, mineral and cool around stone. It is quiet, it belongs to materials, and it never announces itself. And it contains nothing edible - no vanilla, bakery, caramel, coffee, chocolate, honey, cinnamon or warm spice - because the one hour a day a house smells of dinner is the hour you are not trying to recreate, and a food note also competes with any live cooking demonstration you stage deliberately.
Tip: If the note would suit a lobby, it is probably pitched for a thirty-second visit.
One Mountain Breeze reed diffuser ₹849, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.
Hospitality is excellent at consistency and that is the transferable part
What good hotels do well is not the choosing, it is the keeping. The same profile, at the same level, in the same places, running on the same hours, for years, with a single owner of the setting and nobody else able to change it. Copy that and you have most of the value of the hotel model without importing its register. In practice: fix the intensity once, key-lock it, put the hours on the app timer so the schedule survives whoever opens up, mark the machine's position on the floor so it returns to the same place after a clean, and write all of it on a card taped beside the machine. It is unglamorous work, and it is the entire difference between a studio that smells the same in year three and one that does not.
Tip: Give one named person the authority to change the setting. If that is everybody, it is nobody.
One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.
Ninety minutes is three times a hotel stay in the lobby, over and over
This is where the two models collide and the home wins outright. A transit register can be assertive because nobody is in it for long. A studio register cannot, because your customer is seated at a table making a decision worth several lakh, and your designer is in that same air nine hours a day, six days a week. Set the level from the consultation seat at the ninetieth minute, not from the doorway on the way in, where your nose is fresh and everything reads as pleasant. Then ask the design team after a normal week and treat a yes-but as a no. Anyone on the floor should also be able to switch it off in seconds without asking permission.
One Vaayu ₹11,999, set once and left alone, is the whole hardware side of this.
The right answer is a home run with a hotel's discipline, because the transferable part of hospitality was never the smell - it was the refusal to change it.
Borrow the process, leave the register where it belongs, and the two halves stop contradicting each other.
The discipline, in a feature: 1h/4h/8h/24h app timers hold the same hours every day, which is the least glamorous and most valuable thing hospitality does with scent. ₹11,999.
Here is the split written out decision by decision, so it is obvious which model each one belongs to.

What to do
The register
From the home. Clean air, timber, stone, laundry - dry and material-led, and nothing edible however domestic the brief sounds.
The level
From the home, and lower than either instinct suggests. A lobby is a thirty-second experience; your consultation is ninety minutes and exposure compounds throughout.
Consistency
From the hotel, entirely. One profile, one number, held for years, with a single named owner of the setting.
Scheduling
From the hotel. Fixed hours on a timer rather than a switch somebody remembers, including the days and hours it should be off.
Placement
From the hotel. A marked position on the air path, returned to after every clean, rather than wherever the socket is convenient.
Live cooking demonstrations
From neither. Demo zones stay unscented, the machine goes off before the demonstration and stays off until the extraction has cleared the room.
The level that stays put: Adjustable intensity with a key-lock means a number chosen for the ninetieth minute is still that number a season later. ₹11,999.
A lobby fragrance is written to be noticed in the seconds between the door and the lift. Your customer has ninety minutes, and anything written to be noticed eventually becomes something to be endured.
— Sonal Sahani, SOSA
Why the discipline is the transferable half
Timers, a locked dial and a marked position beat any amount of register
Two machines cover most kitchen studios, with the Aangan taking over at experience-centre scale. SOSA's hotel-inspired fragrances are its own original interpretations and the company is independent. Cold-air refill oil is not currently sold separately, so the 400ml supplied runs 90+ days a fill and continuity of supply should be confirmed with SOSA. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Take the register from a home, the process from hospitality, and the level from the consultation seat at minute ninety. Ambient scent here is a presentation decision like lighting or display styling; it is never used to cover another smell - not laminate, not adhesive, not cooking - and a studio with an off-gassing, extraction or cleaning problem fixes that first. And plainly: no one can promise you that ambient scent moves footfall, enquiries or order value, and a supplier quoting you a figure is selling. Ask for a retail scenting plan before you spend anything.

A note from Sonal
I like this question more than any other in this family, because both answers people offer are defensible and the argument between them is genuinely interesting. When someone says hotel, what they usually mean is that they want the room to feel deliberate - looked after by people who thought about it. When someone says home, they mean they want it to feel lived in rather than staged. Neither of those instincts is wrong, and the resolution is that they are describing different things: one is a process and the other is a register.
The reason the hotel register itself does not transfer is a piece of arithmetic nobody mentions. A lobby scent is set for someone walking from a door to a lift with a suitcase, thirty seconds, once. It is meant to be noticed. Your customer sits down at a table and stays for an hour and a half while your designer does the same thing nine hours a day, and any fragrance designed to be noticed becomes something to put up with over that length of time. That is the whole reason a kitchen studio sits lower than almost any retail room I write for.
So: the smell of a well-kept house, held the way a good hotel holds things. Under 750 sq ft that is a Sukoon at ₹1,899; from about 1,500 sq ft a Vaayu at ₹11,999 whose timers and key-lock are the discipline itself; past roughly 5,000 sq ft an Aangan at ₹25,999. Made in India, and a portion of every order supports girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.
Frequently asked questions
Should a premium kitchen studio smell like a luxury home or a luxury hotel?
Like a home, run with a hotel's discipline. The register should come from a well-kept house - clean air, timber, stone, laundry, dry and material-led, and nothing edible. The process should come from hospitality: one profile at one level in the same zones on the same hours, held for years, with a single named person allowed to change it. Most studios borrow the wrong half.
Why does a hotel lobby fragrance not work in a kitchen studio?
Because of how long people stay. A lobby register is composed and set to be noticed in the thirty seconds between the door and the lift, by someone passing through. Your customer sits at a table for sixty to ninety minutes choosing finishes and exposure compounds throughout. A fragrance designed to be noticed on arrival becomes something to endure by the end of an appointment.
What exactly should I copy from hotels, then?
The consistency. One profile, one intensity, the same zones, the same hours, every day, for years, with nobody free to adjust it because nobody who works in the room can smell it accurately any more. In hardware terms that is a timer, an adjustable intensity you set once, and a key-lock. In practice it is also a card taped beside the machine with the number and the hours written on it.
Does a home register mean it should smell of cooking?
No, and this is the trap in the word home. A house smells of cooking for about an hour out of fourteen and of clean air, timber, stone and laundry for the rest. The feeling you are chasing lives in those other hours. A studio selling five to ten lakh cabinetry that smells of vanilla or baking reads as a bakery, and it competes with any live cooking demonstration you stage on purpose.
What machine suits a premium kitchen studio, and what does it cost?
Under about 750 sq ft, a Sukoon at Rs 1,899 - a Vaayu would be the wrong buy at that size. From roughly 1,500 sq ft, a Vaayu at Rs 11,999, whose 1h/4h/8h/24h app timers, adjustable intensity and key-lock are the hospitality discipline in hardware form. It is waterless, so it adds no moisture to the room and leaves no residue on surfaces, which is a fact about the machine rather than a claim about your finishes.
Nothing added to the room: Waterless cold-air nebulisation adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces - a fact about the machine rather than a claim about your finishes. ₹11,999.

Facts verified 5 September 2026 against the live SOSA product pages: the SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999) is a waterless cold-air nebuliser rated to 1000m³, described by the manufacturer as approximately 2,000-3,000 sq ft, with adjustable intensity, a 400ml refillable tank lasting 90+ days a fill depending on intensity and run hours, Bluetooth app and button control, 1h/4h/8h/24h timers, operation under 38dB at 5W, freestanding or wall and HVAC mounting, auto-stop and key-lock, and CE, RoHS and SGS certification, which are electrical and compliance marks and not medical approvals. Being waterless, it adds no moisture and leaves no residue on surfaces or equipment. The SOSA Sukoon (₹1,899) is an ultrasonic cool-mist diffuser covering roughly 270-320 sq ft and is supplied with three 15ml fragrances; the water-based Hotel Collection (₹299 / ₹999 / ₹1,799) is an ultrasonic fragrance and is not a refill for a waterless cold-air machine. SOSA reed diffusers are alcohol-free and phthalate-free, with 50ml lasting about 6-8 weeks and 130ml about 14-18 weeks. Cold-air refill oil for the Vaayu is not currently sold separately - the machine ships with 400ml included and further refills should be confirmed with SOSA. Warranty, annual maintenance, installation and bulk terms are not published and should be confirmed before ordering. Ambient scent is an interior and hospitality decision: it makes no clinical, therapeutic or wellbeing claim, it works alongside proper ventilation, cleaning and infection control and is never a substitute for any of them, it is never used to mask another smell, and no claim is made that fragrance influences a patient's decision or any commercial outcome. Clinical areas including procedure, post-procedure and photography rooms are left unscented, and the treating clinician's judgement overrides any scenting plan in their own room. The hotel-inspired scents are SOSA's own original interpretations; SOSA is an independent brand and is not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any hotel named for reference.
