Founder Diaries · Commercial Scenting

A showroom is a space people walk the length of. That is the whole design problem. The scent that greets a customer at the door has to be the same scent that meets them at the far wall — one even, premium signature, sized to a large volume, working so quietly that nobody sees the machine that makes it.

Quick answer

One signature, sized to the volume. A showroom needs a single restrained scent distributed evenly across a big open floor — not a strong pocket by a plug-in unit and nothing thirty feet away.

For most showrooms, that means HVAC. A ducted SOSA Aangan or Meenar carries the scent through your existing air handling, so it arrives at the same low level everywhere.

Keep it congruent and gentle. A strong scent in a large showroom reads as a cover-up. The goal is a space that feels considered, not one that smells perfumed.

The short version
Short answer: Run one premium signature across the whole floor with an HVAC nebulising system — Aangan (₹25,999) for 8,000–10,000 sq ft, Meenar (₹38,500) for 12,000–18,000 sq ft.
The pick: A compact showroom up to ~1,000 m³ can use a waterless SOSA Vaayu (₹11,999). Cast the signature from the Hotel Collection.

How to scent a showroom, in order
Getting one even, premium signature across a large floor

1. Fix the air first. A showroom scent sits on top of whatever is already there. New-carpet off-gassing, a stuffy mezzanine, a service bay behind a curtain — clear those at source and get the ventilation moving before you add anything. Scent crowns clean, well-aired space; it never masks a problem for long.

2. Size to the volume, not the floor plan. Showrooms are tall as well as wide, so think in cubic metres. A compact single-brand room can run on a waterless Vaayu; a full floor needs the reach of an HVAC system.

3. Distribute through the ducting. The reason a single unit fails in a big showroom is uneven coverage — strong by the machine, faint at the far wall. A ducted Aangan or Meenar pushes fine, waterless nebulised oil into the return air, so the whole floor breathes the same low signature.

4. Cast a signature that fits what you sell. Understated woods and clean linen for cars, furniture and premium goods; something brighter and fresher for apparel and lifestyle. Choose one Hotel Collection character and stay with it — recall comes from consistency, not variety.

5. Dose for the staff, not the visitor. Set it just perceptible on entry, effectively invisible after a few minutes inside, and schedule it to pulse. The people who work there all day are the real test of whether the level is right.

System Best for Honest note
SOSA Vaayu · ₹11,999 A compact showroom or single display room up to ~1,000 m³ Waterless and app-scheduled, but a standalone unit — for one open volume, not a sprawling multi-zone floor.
SOSA Aangan · ₹25,999 A full showroom floor of ~8,000–10,000 sq ft Ducted into your air handling — needs an HVAC system and a short fitting; even coverage is the payoff.
SOSA Meenar · ₹38,500 A very large, multi-zone showroom of 12,000–18,000 sq ft The largest ducted system; overkill for anything under ~10,000 sq ft.
Sukoon + Hotel Collection · ₹1,799 + ₹299 A reception desk or a small closing room off the floor Adds mild humidity and covers a corner only — a supporting touch, not the main system.
Prices from; areas are guidance, not guarantees — layout and ceiling height change real coverage. A portion of every order funds girl-child education through Nanhi Kali.

For a full showroom floor
SOSA Aangan HVAC ₹25,999
Ducted, waterless nebulising for roughly 8,000–10,000 sq ft. It rides your existing air handling so the same low signature reaches the entrance and the far corner alike — the honest fix for uneven coverage.
SOSA Meenar HVAC nebulising diffuser for a large showroom
For a very large showroom
SOSA Meenar HVAC ₹38,500
Our largest ducted system, built for 12,000–18,000 sq ft — multi-level auto and furniture showrooms, big flagship floors. Waterless, so it adds no humidity to your stock or your finishes.
The SOSA principle
In a showroom, scent is a silent brand asset — one signature, sized to the space and scheduled, that lifts perceived quality without anyone noticing the machine.
The customer should never think about the scent. They should simply feel that the space is considered, and carry a little of that feeling to the product in front of them.

One honest caveat I give every showroom owner: a signature scent crowns a well-run floor — it rescues nothing. If the air conditioning struggles, if the carpet is tired, if a service smell drifts in from the back, fix that first. Scent works best when it is the last, quiet layer on a space that is already clean, bright and well ventilated. Dosed gently and kept congruent with what you sell, it lengthens the visit and raises the register of the room. Pushed too hard, it does the opposite.

Frequently asked questions
What scent is best for a showroom?
A showroom wants one restrained, premium signature that reads as clean and considered rather than perfumed — a soft woody or fresh-linen character from the Hotel Collection works across most product categories. Keep it congruent with what you sell: understated for cars and furniture, brighter and fresher for lifestyle and apparel. Whatever you choose, run it low and consistent; a strong scent in a large showroom feels like a cover-up, not a brand.
How do you scent a large showroom evenly?
Even coverage over a large open volume is the whole challenge, and it is why single plug-in units struggle in showrooms — they create a strong pocket near the machine and nothing at the far wall. The reliable answer is an HVAC nebulising system such as SOSA Aangan (8,000–10,000 sq ft) or SOSA Meenar (12,000–18,000 sq ft) fitted to your air handling, so the scent is distributed through the existing ductwork and arrives at the same low level everywhere.
Which SOSA system suits a showroom?
It depends on floor area. A compact single-brand showroom or a display room up to about 1,000 cubic metres can run on a waterless SOSA Vaayu placed near the intake. A full showroom floor of 8,000–10,000 sq ft suits the ducted SOSA Aangan; a very large multi-zone showroom of 12,000–18,000 sq ft suits the SOSA Meenar. All three are waterless nebulising systems that add no humidity.
Does scent marketing actually work in retail showrooms?
The effect is real but moderate, and honesty matters here. A congruent, gentle signature can lengthen the time customers spend on the floor and lift how premium the space feels, which supports the sale — it does not create demand on its own. Scent crowns a well-run, clean, well-lit showroom; it cannot rescue a tired or poorly-ventilated one. Treat it as one quiet part of the experience, not a lever you pull for conversions.
Will a showroom scent bother staff who are there all day?
It should not, if it is set correctly. The mistake is dosing for a visitor who walks in fresh; staff who breathe it for nine hours need it lower. Set the system so the scent is just perceptible on entry and effectively unnoticed once you have been inside a few minutes, and schedule it to pulse rather than run flat-out. A well-tuned commercial scent is one nobody complains about, because nobody consciously registers it.
