These two gifts are usually compared on price, which tells you almost nothing. The real difference is how many people receive them. A reed diffuser is given to a household - it is experienced by everybody who lives there, including people you have never met. A personal fragrance is given to exactly one person. Both can miss, and they miss in opposite directions, which is what should decide the choice.
Quick answers — read this first
What is the real difference between them as gifts? How many people receive it. A reed diffuser is experienced by everybody in a household, including people you have never met; a personal fragrance is experienced by one person and the people near them.

Which is safer? Neither, in general. A diffuser cannot be wrong on somebody's skin but can be wrong for a room shared by four people. A perfume cannot clash with a household but is a much closer judgement about one person.

What decides it? What you know. If you have been inside the home, the diffuser at Rs 749 is excellent. If you know the individual's taste, a personal fragrance works - an attar at Rs 379 being the safest of those.
The short answer
Short answer: The difference is how many people receive it. A reed diffuser at Rs 749 goes to a whole household, including people you have never met, and needs a surface and a register that suits a shared room. A personal fragrance goes to one person - an attar at Rs 379 is the safest, since it projects within an arm's length. Choose by which you know: the home, or the individual.
The pick: a SOSA return gift - consumable, no shelf space, from ₹299 a head.
Bulk: 10 to 200+ pieces quoted on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531. Rates are not published here.
SOSA Diwali return gifts - at a glanceCar fragrance - almost every adult guest drivesCandles & attars - festival-appropriate and consumableTiered - regular guests and close friendsFrom ₹299 · 10 to 200+ pieces
A return gift succeeds when a guest uses it rather than leaves it in the car. Fragrance is consumable, needs no shelf and suits a guest list you only half know. SOSA return gifts start at Rs 299, and bulk quantities are quoted on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531.
Straight answer
Should I give a reed diffuser or a personal perfume?
Decide by who receives it. A reed diffuser at ₹749 to ₹849 is given to a household - everybody who lives there smells it for two or three months, including people you have never met - so it needs a surface and a register that suits a shared room. A personal fragrance goes to one person, which is a closer judgement but a smaller blast radius. An alcohol-free attar at ₹379 is the safest of those, because it sits within an arm's length rather than filling a room: Adaa, Ameeri, Mastani, Nawaab. So: if you have been inside the home, the diffuser. If you know the individual's taste, the fragrance. If neither, a coconut-soy candle at ₹379 or a hanging car perfume at ₹449 asks far less. Quantities quoted on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531.
A diffuser has four recipients, a perfume has one. Know the home, give the Rs 749 diffuser; know the person, give the Rs 379 attar.
If you want one answer for a mixed guest list: hanging car perfume from ₹449, because almost every adult guest drives and almost nobody has done anything about their car. Bulk quantities quoted on WhatsApp.

One gift has four recipients and one has a single one

Comparing a reed diffuser with a personal fragrance by price is comparing seven hundred and forty-nine rupees with three hundred and seventy-nine or five hundred and ninety-nine, which produces no insight at all. The comparison that matters is about scope. A personal fragrance has one recipient. Somebody puts it on, it stays close to them, and if they dislike it they stop using it and nobody else was ever involved. The judgement it requires is precise - you are guessing at one person's taste - but the consequences of being wrong are contained. A reed diffuser has as many recipients as there are people in the household. It runs for two or three months in a shared room, and everybody who lives there is inside it: a spouse who has opinions, a parent staying for the season, a teenager, and quite possibly a person whose preferences you have never had a single conversation about. The judgement it requires is looser - you do not need to know anybody's skin or personal taste - but the consequences of being wrong spread further, because a register nobody chose is present in the room all evening every evening. That difference explains why the two gifts want different kinds of knowledge. The diffuser wants knowledge of the home: is there a surface for it, is the flat compact or open-plan, is the household one that likes scented rooms at all. Those are things you know if you have been inside, and things you cannot possibly know across a large guest list - which is why a diffuser belongs in a small top tier rather than on a bulk list. The personal fragrance wants knowledge of the person: what register they wear, whether they wear fragrance at all, whether they already own four bottles. Those are different facts, and it is entirely normal to have one set and not the other. You may have been to somebody's home twenty times and have no idea what they wear; you may know a colleague's fragrance perfectly and have never seen their flat. Here is the practical resolution. If you have been inside the home, give the diffuser. At seven hundred and forty-nine to eight hundred and forty-nine rupees it is the most undemanding object in the whole range - no flame, no socket, no switch, no water, nothing to operate - and it runs six to ten weeks on a 50ml bottle with reed count as the only control, four or five reeds in a compact Indian flat rather than eight. Morning Freshness is seven hundred and forty-nine, Garden Bloom and Evening Calm seven hundred and ninety-nine, Mountain Breeze and Fresh Brew eight hundred and forty-nine. Pick a quieter register where the household is shared or where you are less sure, because it is being imposed on everybody. If you know the individual's taste, give the personal fragrance, and there is an ordering within that. An alcohol-free attar at three hundred and seventy-nine to three hundred and ninety-nine rupees is the safest, because it has no alcohol carrier and therefore sits within an arm's length rather than filling a room - so a register they would not have chosen affects nobody but them. Adaa is bergamot, green cardamom, jasmine sambac and white musk; Ameeri is Taif rose and Indian sandalwood; Mastani is night jasmine and Damask rose; Nawaab is a white oud composition with Mysore sandalwood and Kashmir saffron rather than a dehn al oud distillate. A solid perfume at four hundred and fifty-nine to five hundred and forty-nine rupees is the portable option, flat and spill-proof in a bag. And a sprayed eau de parfum from the Inspired By range at five hundred and ninety-nine rupees assumes the most of anything in the range and should be reserved for somebody whose register you could describe in a sentence. If you have neither kind of knowledge, which is the normal condition at a large party, neither of these is the right answer. A coconut-soy candle at three hundred and seventy-nine rupees asks almost nothing - a table and a matchbox - and is the only thematically correct format for a festival of light. A hanging car perfume at four hundred and forty-nine rupees asks even less, being addressed to a vehicle rather than a body or a room, so it cannot misjudge skin, cannot clash with a living room and cannot be wrong about a taste you never learned. Two things worth knowing whichever way you go. A reed diffuser fades invisibly - perception adapts to a constant within thirty to ninety seconds, so the household stops noticing long before the bottle is empty while visitors notice immediately; turning the reeds every fortnight refreshes it. And coverage is set by enclosed volume rather than floor area and stops at the first closed door, so a 50ml diffuser scents one room rather than a flat, with the entrance usually being the highest-value position because arrival is the only moment anybody consciously smells a space. An open-plan living and dining room wants the 130ml from one thousand two hundred and forty-nine rupees. And the standing note: fragrance is additive rather than subtractive, so damp, a weak bathroom extract, a greasy kitchen chimney filter or fresh paint has to be fixed and ventilated before anything is scented. On quantity: there is no published bulk rate, minimum order or lead time, because the right number depends on quantity, mix and date. Send those three on WhatsApp and it comes back in writing.

1
The difference
One recipient, or everybody who lives there
A personal fragrance stays close to one person, and if they dislike it they stop using it with nobody else involved. A diffuser runs for two or three months in a shared room, so a register nobody chose is present every evening for a spouse, a parent and a teenager too.
2
Different knowledge
The home, or the person
A diffuser wants to know whether there is a surface, whether the flat is compact or open-plan, whether the household likes scented rooms. A fragrance wants to know a register, whether they wear it at all, how many bottles they already own. It is normal to have one set and not the other.
Tip: You may have been to somebody's flat twenty times and have no idea what they wear.
3
If you have neither
Ask for less
A candle at Rs 379 needs a table and a matchbox. A car perfume at Rs 449 needs nothing at all, being addressed to a vehicle rather than a body or a room - so it cannot misjudge skin, clash with a living room, or be wrong about a taste.
Tip: Which is the normal condition at a large party, and the reason both of these belong in a small tier.
The SOSA principle
A perfume that misses is used once and put away. A diffuser that misses is in the room every evening for two months, for four people who never chose it.
One needs you to know the home. The other needs you to know the person. Those are different facts.

Which risk you would rather take

The two gifts and the two fallbacks, sorted by what they require you to know. Note the ordering inside personal fragrance: an attar is safest because it projects within an arm's length, a solid perfume is the portable one, and a sprayed eau de parfum assumes the most of anything in the range.

Scent Why it suits the mood
You know the home · reed diffuser ₹749 to ₹849 No flame, socket, switch or water, six to ten weeks, four or five reeds. Pick a quieter register where the household is shared or you are less sure.
You know the person · attar ₹379 to ₹399 The safest personal fragrance, because no alcohol carrier means it sits within an arm's length - so an unchosen register affects nobody but the wearer.
You know them well · eau de parfum ₹599 Assumes the most of anything in the range, so reserve it for somebody whose register you could describe in a sentence. Solid perfumes at ₹459 are the portable middle.
You know neither · candle ₹379, car perfume ₹449 A table and a matchbox, or nothing at all. The car perfume cannot misjudge skin, clash with a living room or be wrong about a taste you never learned.

A note from Sonal

Return gifts fail in a way everybody has experienced from both sides. You spend real money across fifty guests, and a fortnight later most of it is in a drawer or a kitchen cupboard. The test I use is not what it cost per head - it is whether it will be finished. A box of mithai is finished in four days and forgotten. A decorative object is never finished at all.

Fragrance sits in a useful middle. It gets used up over weeks or months, it needs no shelf space, and it works for a guest list you only half know - which is the real condition of a Diwali party, where you know twenty people well and forty barely at all. Car fragrance in particular has the widest hit rate we see, because almost every adult guest drives and almost nobody has thought about what their car smells like.

One honest note about bulk. We do not publish a bulk rate, a minimum order or a lead time on a blog page, because those depend on the quantity, the mix and the date, and a number written in an article is a number that will be wrong by the time somebody reads it. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 96192 18531 with your guest count, per-head budget and date and we will put a written quote against it - including when the honest answer is that a price point is not worth doing. A portion of every order supports girl-child education.

Frequently asked questions

Should I give a reed diffuser or a personal perfume?
Decide by what you know. If you have been inside the home, the diffuser at Rs 749 is excellent. If you know the individual's taste, a personal fragrance works - an attar at Rs 379 being the safest of those.
What is the real difference between them?
How many people receive it. A diffuser runs for months in a shared room and is experienced by everybody who lives there; a personal fragrance stays close to one person and involves nobody else.
Which one is riskier?
Neither in general - they miss in opposite directions. A diffuser cannot be wrong on somebody's skin but can be wrong for a room shared by four people. A perfume cannot clash with a household but is a much closer judgement about one person.
What if I know neither the home nor the person?
Ask for less. A coconut-soy candle at Rs 379 needs only a table and a matchbox, and a hanging car perfume at Rs 449 needs nothing at all, being addressed to a vehicle rather than a body or a room.
Which size of diffuser suits a large room?
The 130ml from Rs 1,249. Coverage is set by enclosed volume rather than floor area and stops at the first closed door, so an open-plan living and dining space needs more than a compact room does.
